I've heard people rave about GSE but I was disappointed today. Apparently, adding comments to your order is a waste of time. They don't read them. Asked for ketchup and mustard instead of their sauce and got nothing. Barely any cheese, either. Asked for light onion and got plenty, asked for extra pickle and got the bare minimum. Also, their medium rare is rare, so go medium if you want MR. Burger lacked flavor, no seasoning I guess. We ate it because we were hungry and the shake was good. So 2 stars. Should demote it to one since we paid $28 for two burgers, one fry and a shake. Oh well, live and learn. read more

We family and I ate at Good Stuff Eatery during our DC family vacation. Cool little place that specializes in burgers, shakes and fries although they do have a grilled chicken sandwich if that is up your alley. The restaurant has the involvement of Spike Mendelsohn, who once competed in top chef as a consultant and his family owns/operates it. My family and I were curious to see it and eat there...so since we were nearby one early afternoon we decided to have lunch there. My brother and I both had some bacon cheese burgers which were juicy and flavorful and we enjoyed every last bite. My mother ordered a grilled chicken sandwich...no she doesn't like grilled chicken sandwiches normally but she wasn't in the mood for a burger. She did really like it though. We also ordered fries...this place sells two different types...ones made with sea salt and ones made with sea salt and rosemary. We were curious on how they both tasted... although the flavors were very interesting especially so those made with rosemary a flavor I have never had on fries... he fries were oily and limp...they weren't very good at all. The shakes, though were to die for. My mother got a chocolate shake, my brother a cookies and creme shake and I got the Milky Way Shake...omg one of the best shakes ever! Only problem...they straws they use at the store are garbage...they are weak and the shake is so thick...it's almost impossible to drink through the straw...they need to definitely fix that problem. So, as part of my training regimine for my pending milkshake challenge, I've been trying to drink a couple of shakes a week to keep dairy in my system. Do you know what happens when a lactose intolerant person doesn't have dairy for awhile and all of a sudden decides to try something with milk or cheese? Let's just say that it's a chemistry experiment gone terribly wrong. In any event, on this day I decided to venture to Good Stuff to try their variation of a Salted Caramel shake. Salted caramel is a flavor that has become the rage of late with it being sold as milkshakes, candy, coffee, etc. Made properly, it can be quite addicting because there's something about tasting sweetness and saltiness that really makes the mouth sing. Ordered it, tried it and........FAIL! The shake was decent......if it was labeled as a vanilla shake. That was the dominant flavor with faint hints of caramel. Where's the salt?? At Good Stuff, this shake is called the "Salty Caramel Kiss". Well, if that's how she kisses then this relationship is definitely OVER. I like my shakes like I like my kisses- full of mouth watering action. Unfortunately, Good Stuff's preference for being prudish towards kissing doesn't work towards the bottom line. Spike Mendelsohn is an asshole. There I said it. If you haven't heard the news, here it is!! So let me lay out my visit for you. I'm with a bunch of friends. They all want to eat here at this small burger joint with a line running out the door. I had no idea where we were going until I got inside and saw pictures of Top Chef all over the walls. "OH!!! SPIKES RESTAURANT!" As a huge Top Chef fan, I was super excited. Also knowing that I was vegan, I didn't expect any options, but wanted to at least check the menu out and let my friends enjoy the visit. Reading through the menu, it definitely is different..and definitely overpriced. There is one vegetarian option, called the "Vegetarians are people, too!" Cute. It's a portabello mushroom burger filled with a parmesan cheese filling. Ugh. Definitely not vegan friendly or healthy in any sense. Oh well, I could always get some fries! So we slowly snake around the line, finally it's my turn, I order the herb topped fries, and load and behold, guess who I see? SPIKE! So, seeing as he's the big man--the BOSS, I go "Hey Spike, so I'm actually a vegan, is there a possibility that any of your entrees can be made vegan?" He stares at me, without blinking or even the slightest hint of a smile or frown. He gives out a deafening "NO." That's it. No "I'm sorry, but we don't have anything" or "Not at this time, could you maybe try our fries or plain salad?" OR ANYTHING! He flat out tells me 'No,' then stares at me silently (for at least 5 seconds) as I awkwardly try to think of a response...super embarrassed and feeling really red, I tell him "You know, there's a large population of vegans in the DC district. Maybe you should think about making something as an option!" Same response, cold, long stare and making me feel like a fool. I turn around and walk away. As I look back, he's still staring at me. Apparently, "vegetarians are people, too," but vegans must be a thing reserved for the freak show, because that's how he treated me. I pick up my soda and fries (which they got wrong...boy getting an order of fries wrong? I wonder how such a thing could happen at an establishment like this!), and Spike was the one who was handing it to me. Same thing. Cold, soul-less stare. No "Thank you for coming!" or "Have a nice day!" or a slight smile, or anything! It's like he's not human. The fries are cut to 1-inch long soggy bits of potatos. Not even french fries. It's like a mix between fries and mashed potatoes. Way too oily. The entire restaurant is dirty and unsanitary. Their cooking station is dripping grease off the sides of the walls and down the counters seemingly like it's rarely cleaned. A fellow co-workers got sick after eating there. We still don't know if it was from the burgers here or not, but she e-mailed them about the incident, and they basically told her--Sorry that happened to you, but because you're the only person who told us they got sick, it must not have been us!!! Talk about not taking accountability into your food and quality, and not even taking any effort to make sure your food meets minimal standards. Avoid at all cost. read more

Well I've been coming here pretty often since 2008. A solid place for burgers! I really wish the fries were longer, but if you don't mind getting greasy they will definitely do the trick. Definitely upgrade to village fries if rosemary is your thing! I'm not a huge mayo with my fries fan, so the "mayo bar" quickly lost it's luster after the first few visits. An underated menu item is the chili! I've had many colder nights with a cup of this to-go, and it is super satisfying with just the right kick! I will say, the absolute standout and reason I will always take out-of-towners here is the ~Toasted Marshmallow Shake~. Thick, creamy, and full of toasty marshmallow flavor! It was amazing when I first had it in 2008 and tastes just as good in 2016! The shakes are topped with jumbo toasted marshmallows and don't you dare pass on the homemade whipped cream. Absolutely decadent and you'll probably feel like garbage in an hour, but always worth it! My friend always asks them to make her toasted marshmallow shake chocolate, which is tasty but seems to thin it out a bit. Hopelessly mediocre and grossly overpriced, my experience at Good Stuff was nothing of the sort. After a wonderful day in the DC-area, my buddies and I were in need of a good meal. Name can only take you so far. What you put on the plate is paramount. Not being a beef eater, I ordered the Free Range Turkey Burger. I asked the young lady at the counter if the burger came with any mayonaisse-y sauce. She replied that it did. I asked to get the burger without said mayo-sauce. I also ordered some onion petals and a bottle soda. I waited waited and waited and finally received my food. I went upstairs to join my buddies, sat down, bit into the sandwich and..."hmm, that's odd. It tastes really bland. Let me take another bite. Hmm." I opened it up and this is what i saw: a small patty with a piece of lettuce. No tomato. No 'chunky avocado.' No muenster cheese. I paid $6.89 plus tax for this. oh. H#ll. NO! I went back downstairs to the counter, holding my janky-ass 'burger' and asked for a manager. When one ambled over, I asked what the ingredients of the Free Range Turkey Burger were. He recited them. I opened my bun. He looked down, made a face and asked if i wanted another burger. Fully realizing that my new burger would likely come with 'extra ingredients', I said yes. I was hungry. And annoyed. I also asked about the mayo-sauce. 'No, there is no mayo-sauce on the burger' was the reply. An.noyed. So, I waited waited and waited and received a new burger. Not my favorite burger. I had the Coletti's Smokehouse (sharp Vermont cheddar, applewood bacon, fried Vidalia onions and BBQ sauce). Sounds like it would be great since they are throwing out the fancy words like Vermont sharp and fried Vidalias right? Wrong. It was a Western Bacon Cheeseburger from Carl's Jr. And sadly I would have enjoyed a Carl's Jr. WBC more than this fancy worded one. The meat was well done. And crumbly. It just crumbled off with every bite. It had no seasoning whatsoever so thank goodness, not really, that they slopped on a ton of BBQ sauce. Couldn't tell anything special with the cheese and the fried Vidalias were a complete disaster. I saw this place on Burgers, Brew, & Que. Inside you order and pick up on 1st floor and sit on the 2nd floor. I ordered the COLLETTI'S SMOKEHOUSE Burger and Vidalia Onion Petals. The smokehouse Burger has Applewood Bacon, Sharp Vermont Cheddar Fried Vidalia Onion Rings With Chipotle BBQ Sauce. It was simply outstanding. One of the best I've had. The Chipotle Bbq sauce is amazing. I wish they sold bottles of it. I'd buy it instead of my Sweet Baby Rays. The only downside is it's too small. As for the onion petals another home run. I also had a chocolate shake. It was supposed to be one of the best in DC. I found it extremely average. The only real downsides are the burgers are too small and the way you pick up food. The whole having to stand around waiting for your food instead of being allowed to just go sit down upstairs and have it delivered is a little crazy. Overall a 4 1/2 stars. I had an upcoming trip to DC (I'm from the West Coast) and saw this place mentioned on a blog for their toasted marshmallow milkshake. Right away I knew I was going to need to go there. A group of us went on a Saturday evening and it was busy, but not slow. We all ordered burgers, fries, and shakes - obviously. Our food probably took only 15 minutes and was so delicious. We all raved about the burgers on our walk home and we've still been discussing them today - that was two weeks ago. ** 3.5 - I decided to round up ** I had really been looking forward to coming here after spending numerous afternoons at work looking at the menu online and drooling a little. I knew the first few days would be rough so my friend and I waited til last night to trek our way to SE and find out if Spike's burgers were going to be worth the wait. I found standing in line at GSE comparable to waiting in line at a Disney World ride: you stand in line outside only to find that when you get inside the attraction, you still have to weave through the indoor maze of lines. Of course, Good Stuff isn't as big as a Disney Ride but once you get to the end...you have to ask yourself the question: Was it really worth the wait? Here is my breakdown: * The space/layout - very clean and chic - not sure I liked the layout though - moving to the back near the cooking area to wrap around and then place my order at the register. It's kind of chaotic when you consider the pick-up window is before the register so you have confused guests trying to pick up their order and more confused guests trying to figure out where to stand in line. It's curious. * The service - Spike's dad was really friendly and did a good job of keeping order of the line outside and handing out menus. He only let people in once there was adequate room to let them in to stand inside. Spike himself was there last night calling in orders. I asked him how things were going and he seemed pretty satisfied with the first week and having had the grand opening the previous day. He appeared to be pretty tired though. I saw Spike's mom taking charge of the milkshakes which was cool. The girls at the register were really friendly too. * The food - My friend got a turkey burger, fries and a coke float while I settled on the 5 napkin burger, the village fries and a coke float. Interestingly enough though, I somehow ended up with a chocolate shake instead. I guess they got them mixed up when I was picking my food up after my buzzer went off...but I didn't realize this until I got back to my table outside and I didn't feel like trying to weave through the maze to reclaim my correct beverage. Oh well. It was delicious though. My "5 napkin" burger only really required me to use 3 napkins (yes, I counted). It was really good actually, I was very pleased. The burger was thick and had great flavor. The applewood bacon was yummy and the cheese was good. God, I love cheese. The fries - I loved the cute little bag they come in and that they give us a wooden pick to assist picking them up. They were a little small but I didn't seem to care because they tasted pretty good. Burnt, Dry, cold and salty. Watched multiple people who ordered in the restaurant receive their food before my online order that was supposed to be ready 15 mins prior to my receiving it. Save your time, money, and taste buds by ordering a much better $10+ burger and fries from a nearby restaurant. Also worth mentioning that in 2018 their only vegetarian options are tomatoes or mushrooms deep fried and stuffed with cheese. We get there and find that the door is closed with a sign saying they will be closed Sunday and Monday so they can host Top Chef contestants. A. - I am hot and hungry. The Michelle Obama Melt is a whole grain bun turkey burger on swiss. My girlfriend ordered it and loved it. I tried it and it was loaded with good flavor. I myself order the Prez Obama Burger which was a grass fed burger on a potato bun with a homemade mayo, caramelized onions and cheese. The burger was juicy and I can see why the President approves of the burger named after him. This place is expensive. The burgers are $8-$10 which isn't too bad but if you want to include a soda and fries they charge you almost $5 more! It just seemed like way too much money for what I was getting in return. I succumbed to the hype and decided to try this place. The burger was cooked to perfection, and the cheese was delicious and melty, but the bun seemed to have come out of a bag and didn't hold up to the burger juices at all. The bottom bun was completely soggy to the point that it was unappetizing and physically difficult to hold onto. I tried all the different sauces, and only the spicy mango was appetizing to me. I tried both the regular and rosemary fries. The regular ones were nothing special, and the rosemary fries were slightly better, but neither was particularly appetizing without the spicy mango sauce. My friends and I tried three milkshakes: soursop strawberry, dulce de leche, and toasted marshmallow. The soursop strawberry tasted like a good strawberry milkshake, with no hint of soursop whatsoever. The dulce de leche tasted like cheap caramel sauce. The toasted marshmallow was also overly sweet and tasted like cotton candy. I won't be back unless someone else is buying. read more

Somewhere, Justin C is nursing his hatred for Spike Mendelsohn and shaking his head at me. What can I say, even though a fried egg in a burger isn't an original idea, Spike's Sunnyside makes for great drunk food. I regret skipping the shakes after reading some of these other reviews, but I'm proud that I went the anti-grease route of keeping the burger in the wrapper as I ate. I question the wisdom of breaking the yolk during burger assembly. Half of my pleasure is derived from breaking it with my teeth and sucking as I eat in a delicate balancing act of containing the runny goodness... and not choking to death on a bite. Seriously, the top of my burger was impacted as though someone had unleashed his kitchen rage with his fist of fury. Listen, I'll deal out all the domestic abuse my burgers deserve myself. Didn't stop me from licking the yolk off the wrapper, though. That's right. I'm an animal. Don't keep me from my eggs. I had some of Nirali's veggie burger and she was let down. I could see and taste why. The patty batter hid two Portobello caps sandwiching cheese, something that wasn't really revealed in the menu description. Not bad, but not great. Same goes for the fries and onion petals; the shards were fried to crisps and seasoned nicely, but it was the variety of condiments that carried the sides to the finish since without them it just tasted like greasy starch. The mango mayo was my favorite. I'm glad no one gave Hue flak for bringing her own grub from next door. Bathrooms were reasonably clean considering the high turnover of drunks that evening. The trash can at the top of the stairs behind the railing may have been a bad idea though, some frat kid tossed his wrapper at the bin and missed, causing it to sail down to the first floor. Good Stuff doesn't turn out destination eats, but I'd choose this as a step up from 5G if I were in the area again. read more

Such great service in every way. the person who took our order was an absolute sweetheart her attitude was one of the best I've ever seen and the service industry. With me being a beverage director I've seen so many people in this industry and she was easily one of the best. Including the amazing experience with her, the food was very quick and so delicious. We had the turkey burger and the veggie burger accompanied by old Bay, Chipotle, and mango sauce. All of them were super delicious and tasted very fresh. The fries were absolutely amazing. The name of them escapes me but they had Thyme on them and we're recommended by the young lady that took our order. In addition to all of that they also have alcoholic beverages which I did not get a chance to try but will next time I come. Had the Obama burger--delicious bacony and guerere cheesey goodness. One of the best I've eaten in DC; on the small side though. (4.5/5) Milkshake -- rich, creamy, with chunks of oreos. Win. If you like burgers, this may be your Mother Ship. We had a group of about a dozen people, and we all ordered different burgers.They were... Tasty, messy, delicious, juicy, flavorful, decadent, outrageously unique, and ah-maze-ing. I had the one with an egg on it, and frankly I was practically licking that sunny side from my elbows - it was so deliciously runny. The fries are salty - like pucker up salty - and they are liberal with salt on the burgers too. Unless you like salt licks, no need to add any extra to anything you order because the cooks add more than enough. They're cooking with sea salt here - 'nuff said. If you need a juicy over the top burger, welcome home. Lunch rush is busy though, and seating is limited. So be ready to devour that lunch and make room for the next burger fanatic or find another spot to take your time and savor that burger. I went yesterday (8/21/08) and got the mushroom burger. Instead of minced mushrooms, the burger was two portabellos stacked on top of each other, breaded and flash-fried. It was dripping with spicy mayo and cheese and was delicious. The price: $6. I also tried all of the spicy mayonnaise. They were all tasty; I especially liked the Old Bay Mayo. DC Insider Tip: Ridiculously long lines form during peak times, so AVOID this place around 12:30pm. The restaurant was very loud and had bad acoustics. It took at least 45 seconds of solid eye contact before someone was pushed to the register to take our order. I really hate this place. WTF is wrong with people? This was after we were up the street and had dinner at Tune Inn before this because the burgers and fries are so much better. Now if only Tune Inn had shakes ... hmm. However, this restaurant was terribly disappointing. 1. SPIKE'S SUNNYSIDE Dairy Fresh Cheese, Applewood Bacon A Farm Fresh Fried Egg On A Brioche Bun With Good Stuff Sauce 6.98 ~Disappointing. First off, my burger looked nothing like the picture. It was completely squished, and I was really disappointed to find it didn't have any lettuce and tomato like in the Farmhouse burgers. Second, it lacked in taste. This was one of the worst fried egg burgers I've had, and the entire thing was extremely greasy. 2. PREZ OBAMA BURGER Applewood Bacon, Onion Marmalade, Roquefort Cheese & Delicious Horseradish Mayo Sauce 6.98 ~Disappointing. This was actually worse than my sunnyside. It was just heavy on heavy on heavy, and the horseradish mayo didn't help much. 3. Toasted Marshmallow shake, 5.5 ~Disappointing. Way too sweet. 4. Spike's Village Fries 2.49 snack size Topped with Fresh Thyme, Rosemary & Sea Salt ~Disappointing. Fries weren't crispy, and I didn't think the thyme helped. Service was dreadful. When my buzzer rang, I went to the counter to pick up my order and found that it was incomplete since they were still working on my shake. Over a minute later, it still wasn't out, and the first shake that came out went to the girl next to me, despite my order being earlier. I am not a burger girl, but OMG I love Good Stuff Eatery!! I am not sure what I love most about it... the efficient service, the delicious non-beef options, the rosemary fries or the awesome fries' sauces?? As a non-burger eating girl, I love the Free Range Turkey Burger. This is probably one of my favorite burgers EVER. Not only is it amazingly delicious, it also feels so healthy with the whole wheat bun. As my boyfriend ate the Spike's Sunnyside, he agreed that my burger was actually quite tasty, if not more so! The turkey burger is chock full of smooth creamy avocado, as well. YUM. I also appreciate that there are other non-beef options (another turkey burger and a mushroom burger) -- all of the burgers can come as in the chicken option now! We also ordered a Spike's Village Snack Fry (more than enough for 2 to share), which is SO good with the rosemary flavoring and the awesome sauces at Good Stuff. My favorite is the Mango Mayo. You have to get to Good Stuff EARLY... we got there on a Saturday around 11:50 and the line was pretty short (about 4 people in front of us). But shortly after noon hit, the line was out the door. On a weekday, it gets even busier!! But the service here is quite fast and efficient (they give you a buzzer) and while the space is tight, they fit in as many tables as possible. I am not a burger-fanatic. But when asked about which quick-burger place i preferred, i would definitely state good stuff eatery. With each visit, i have always introduced this place to a new comer and the staff has always been very genuinely animated to show them around the menu options. My absolute hands down goto burger is the farmhouse bacon cheese with egg add on. All of the fries are good, you cant go wrong in choosing which option. And lastly, the milkshakes...i have never seen nor heard of "vietnamese coffee milkshake" before...and i wont lie, it IS good for a milkshake, but the taste didnt resemble vietnamese coffee at all, not even close, tho it was still very delicious nontheless. I am not a fan of this place, but maybe it's because my expectations were so high.....damn Top Chef. I always order the cheeseburger whenever I eat burgers, that way I feel like I can make a solid comparison and this place hugely disappointed me. First of all, the packaging was terrible. They wrap your burger up just like McDonalds does, except that the people at McDonalds actually does a better job of it. My Good Stuff Eatery burger ended up looking like it had been at the bottom of the heap of a rugby pile. And who in their right mind would think "mmmmm...giant burger ball that looks like it's been stepped on....delicious!"? Seems that my husband does. He couldn't care less that the bread and meat were all entwined into one giant ball......"it's all the same in your stomach, plus it's juicy" he says. I'll admit that they do give you a lot of fries, but come on people, fries should be fried to a golden crispiness on the outside with the perfect balance of squishiness on the inside (but not too squishy). A fry should not be drenched and bathed in fry oil that would make any person break out in pimples just by looking at it. And to top it off, the whole meal was around $10. I've had much better burger combo meals at any other fast food franchise and for half the price. It's not that I think only fast food burgers are good, I've actually had fantastic burgers. I went to an absolutely delicious burger place called Twisted Root in Dallas. The burgers there were around the same price as Good Stuff Eatery, but that's where the similarities end. Seems like good old Spike could take a page or two from their recipes if he ever decides to make a franchise out of this place. The only saving grace for me was their mayo bar. I can only echo what other yelpers have said "it's just awesome". My favorite was the Sriracha mayo........yum! After dipping my all too greasy fries into that magic sauce... almost....just almost...makes me forget my mashed up, only "so-so" burger with a side of grease fries experience. I hear the shakes are good. If I ever go back, and I would only go back if all the other places around there somehow didn't survive and had to close shop, maybe then I'll try the shakes. read more

I had this place for the 1st time at this particular location a week ago with friends. The place was crowded but the service was fast. The menu helped me order and I got the Obama Burger, fries, and a vanilla shake. The first star goes away when I saw the price ended up being over $17. Are you serious? But I was like ok, maybe the portions are huge?? WRONG! This Obama Burger I guess was named to mirror the current administration - inefficient, unsatisfactory, and a letdown. The burger had at most 4 oz of beef covered in some weird cheese and sauces that made the bun more soggy than a used Scotch pad. The fries I got were equally as soggy and I gave them away to friends. The vanilla shake, while good, was way too thick which required the suction power of a Dyson vacuum. If we are comparing it to the competition like your Five Guys, Whitecastles, and similar, this place would be last on my list. I'm not giving it a lower score due to the fact that I saw other burgers that actually looked bigger and were cheaper. If you like juicy burgers, then this is the place for you. If you don't like pink burger patties, this is not the place for you. My Colletti's Smokehouse was good and flavorful but tiny for $7.25. The bbq sauce and onion rings were good but made the burger a mess to eat. I like the black and white milkshake. In fact, in 90 degree heat, I took the drink out and enjoyed it across Pennsylvania Ave on a park bench, which was surprisingly more chill than inside this location. I would not recommend the fries. They came in a bag that was basically soaked through by the time I carried the tray of food from the counter to my table upstairs. As a result, the "fries" were soggy and limp. read more

20 minutes to wait for two burgers and one order of fries?! Say it ain't so?! Well to my surprise, this is how long I had to wait for my order on Friday, 3/9/12. So there was no one in the order line at 743pm and I would estimate five orders were ahead of me based upon my observation. However, I waited and waited. I noticed other burger lovers, coming in after me, ordering and getting their food before me! My assigned pager was functional as I finally received my food twenty minutes later. The burgers seemed a bit small for the price but the patty was hot with fresh ingredients fresh. The Colletti's Smokehouse has a nice size portion of Applewood Bacon and Fried Vidalia Onion Rings with Chipotle BBQ Sauce. The Sharp Vermont Cheddar was melted as well. The fries were overly greasy! In terms of taste, there was not much of a difference between the Sunny's Handcut Fries (Rosemary & Sea Salt) and Spike's Village Fries (Topped with Fresh Thyme). The regular order is big enough for 2 to 3 people. Overall its a nice burger spot (minus the wait) but I wouldn't consider it DC's best burger. read more

The burger is a 2.7 at best, but I'm rounding up... That being said, I'll start with the best and work my way down from there. - Great milkshake! Had the toasted marshmallow. Insider tip: order the mini-moo (kids size)- it's more than enough, especially if you're eating a burger and fries too! And it'll run you $3.75 instead of $5.25. It had good thickness, not so much that you needed a spoon. Comes with two real toasted marshmallows on top, which is quite charming. - The village fries have great seasoning (thyme, rosemary, and cracked pepper), but lack any crispiness. The flavor makes them worth eating, but they are pretty soggy. - The actual burger was seriously lacking. I got the good stuff melt with melted cheese, caramelized onions, mushrooms and good stuff sauce. The wrapper was covered in a gooey mess of cheese, the bun was smashed, and the entire bottom half of the bun was soggy when it arrived. I let all of this slide at first, hoping the actual meat might be its saving grace. Sadly, this was not the case. The patty was flavorless and rather thin. The flavored mayos are interesting- I tried the mango and chipotle- not bad. As for the establishment itself.....the service left much to be desired. There was no line, but I waited at the counter for a full minute before anyone acknowledged me. And by 'acknowledged' I mean stared at me without speaking until I blurted out my order. I don't think the cashier (or anyone else) said a word to me at any point in the transaction. For a family operation, this was a big disappointment. There is ample seating upstairs with a counter downstairs and some patio seating. For $15, I don't feel I got enough bang for my buck, especially considering the disappointing main event: the burger! The bottom line: Good Stuff Eatery should be a milkshake joint. I visited GSE for lunch today (my first visit). I knew it could get crowded so I made sure to arrive around 11:30. The line was short (4 people in front of me) and the service was very friendly. I ordered Colletti's Smokehouse Burger, Spike's Village Fries and a Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake (~$18, woah!). It took a short-feeling 10-12 minutes for my order (in the meanwhile I filled up some condiment-cups). Started sipping the milkshake as I walked out the door (I had to drive about 10 minutes back to my office) and it was rich and delicious (I got very excited about the burger and fries to come). Once home I tore open the burger wrapper. The size was small for the price and I certainly don't mind trading quantity for quality (I much prefer quality) but this burger lacked for both. Either the burger or the fried vidalias (I couldn't tell which as they were mashed together in an unappealing manner) were super salty. The burger was cooked well but certainly not juicy and there was hardly any zesty chipotle sauce. And the fries were horrible (part of this could be due to the 10 minute drive home but such a short life-expectancy for fries is extremely disappointing.) They were short, soggy and tasted of no thyme, rosemary or cracked pepper. I also did not enjoy the condiments very much. They tasted over-msg'ed, with an overbearing umami. If I were motivated for a milkshake I might head back...but otherwise...no. read more
