Great spot to come checkout if you want a different type of "Mexican" food spot. There's not many Gordita places around these parts of the world, they're usually listed in the appetizer section of most Mexican restaurants. This spot gives the Gordita the honor it deserves. You know the place is gonna be good when the parking lot is full. Came to check it out on a Saturday for lunch and there was only 1 table available. The waitress was great in offering samples for anything we wanted to try. The place is full of delicious smells which are all too familiar. Which is why families come here. They transport you back to the region they are taking inspiration from. In this instance, it's Torreón, the second largest city in the Mexican state of Coahuila. The flavors are flavorful and the varieties are bountiful. The table ordered everything from chicharron en salsa verde, to asado. On the recommendation of an orderly @ University Hospital, we came to the South Flores location. Our party of 3 each had 2 Gorditas. We tried the tinga, deshebrada & picadillo Gorditas de maíz al carbón. So delicious & generously filled! The cafe de olla is the best I've ever had! Our server was Cynthia. She was patient with our questions and so very sweet! Cynthia was very attentive & kept checking on us. This location has an awesome "hole in the wall" vibe! It is small & cozy, but service is fast. This place is a great place to go to get some really good Mexican Gorditas. They have an amazing variety of meats to choose from and add to your Gordita. If you are not sure which meat you want in your Gordita, don't be shy, just ask the ladies for a sample. We literally had a sample of every meat that they had displayed (we ain't shy). We went on a week day during the lunch hour and it was a challenge to find parking. Additionally, there was a line out the door but it moves fast. It's a small Mexican restaurant but they are putting out so big numbers with those tasty Gorditas. The ambiance is busy but you can tell from the patrons that everyone is having a good time and enjoying their food. They have so many different options, you will have to visit them a few times to really appreciate the goodness they are putting on your plate. Fast, simple, delicious food. I could come here every day. The venue is small and very busy, but lucky for us there was no wait. My problem was that I panicked and didn't know how to order them when questions were asked. My Spanish is terrible. So in the end, I got one bean and cheese and one rajas. Both were delectable. They were well-seasoned, flavorful, super hot, and cooked to perfection. Service was super friendly and fast. They had two salsas at the table. As of right now, there are two locations of Gorditas Mi Torreón and this is easily the better of the two. It is a little divey, popular with locals, and incredibly tasty. In other words, this is my kind of place. It's not a large place and parking can be tricky when the place is packed, which is the often the case on the weekends. There are handful of group tables throughout the place, which can probably max out at 40-50 folks at any given time. They've done a good job of maximizing the layout and the bathrooms are clean. My initial experience here was a foodgasm so intense that I won't soon forget it. Their gorditas ($3.75) are the real deal and I loved eating all of them so much that I still long for them today. The sopes ($4.25) are also excellent, but what it really boils down to are the fillings: Chicharrón (prensado y cuero): Both are buttery smooth. Rajas con queso: A classic. Perfect for veggie palates. Picadillo: Ground beef perfection. Asado: A little smokey, but riquísimo overall. Papas rojas / verdes: Both are excellent and both have a slight kick. Perfect for veggie palates. Frijoles con queso: Classic. Easy. Delicious. Tinga: Shredded chicken meat with the right amount of salsa is heavenly. Carne con chile (res y puerco): One has to really like picante but this is fire. Deshebrada: A stewed and shredded meat of awesomeness. Requesón: The cheesiest of the bunch, which is fresh and somewhat similar to ricotta. Easily one of my favorites. Mole: Always wonderful, velvety, and incredibly satisfying. Choriqueso: A little cheese and a lot of chorizo, which makes for an ideal desayuno style sandwich. Nopales con carne / puerco: I like nopales, but this is probably my least favorite of the bunch. Huevo en salsa verde / roja: Another perfect breakfast combo. If you're doing takeout, I would recommend calling ahead of time and be prepared to speak Spanish. The nearly all-female staff are sweet and constantly busy. Beware of parking next door at the market, since there are towing signs everywhere. At the end of the day, I am always excited to come here. It's gotten to a point where if I'm going to be passing through San Antonio, I'll make sure to stop by here to get my fix. I think anyone who is a fan of Mexican cuisine, especially gordita enthusiasts, owe themselves a visit one of the better options in the city. read more

Had lunch at the #3 location on 2932 Austin Hwy. The Asado gordita was legit. I also had a sope with tinga de pollo. It was also delicious. I should've taken my pics before digging in, but I just couldn't help myself. Food was excellent!! Tried the trio of flautas with the works and a ckn Gordita. The flautas were enough food they were covered in a sauce and cabbage. Yum!! Always seen lots of cars there and let me tell you I'll be going back!! But here it comes they had flies in the eating/ table area!! Like 6-7 flies , that was the only thing that I did not like. Omaigaaaaaa. We had the gordita de rajas and it was just perfection! The gordita wasn't your typical, fried, gordita but cooked over a flattop. I was skeptical at first but walked away so blown away. Biting into the corn gordita was met with pleasant crunch of the corn gordita followed by gooey cheese and then the flavor explosion of the roasted peppers. To take it a step further, we added their green salsa which, gosh, made you want to finish that bite and take another bite. We almost got into chingazos over the last bite. Really need to go back and try everything else. I know it's far for me coming from 35 & 1604 but so damn worth it. read more

We went today around 1:00 pm & ordered about 8 Gorditas in different meats so we could try them all . They were ok I just didn't like the Chicharron Duro , it was extremely spicy I couldn't eat it . If you like extreme spice I would definitely recommend this Gordita. The corn Gorditas were lacking salt in the masa as well . What really bothered me was the fact that every single lady working behind the counter making the Gorditas all wore their mask below their noses . There was one man working there that came out of a back door caring the Gorditas to the ladies so they could fill them . He actually had on a surgical disposable mask . He was wearing food grade disposable gloves but he kept using this hands to pull his mask down below his chin & then would use the same gloves to place the mask back on his face . He did this at least 4 or 5 times that I observed , he never changed his gloves . One lady working the kitchen area didn't even have a hair net on . We drove all the way from Schertz to try them out . Mainly because of the health issues & covid guide lines not being followed we will not be returning . One last thing, there was a female customer inside that never put her mask on , she wore it around her neck . She went to the counter complaining about not getting her food & again no one addressed this issue . She was inside at least 40 minutes with no mask & not practicing social distancing. Was a bit skeptical about anything claiming to be "Mexican" here in Texas, but to our surprise - this place is DOPE! Gordiitas are really good, but the star of the show is truly the Flautas plate! They are authentic, absolutely scrumptious and super meaty! Made a mistake of ordering the five flauta combo, and both my wife and I couldn't even finish it! And the red sauce they use...OMG!!! They also have amazing sopes. The only 2 options are gorditas and sopes, very simple and basic menu. I recently shared with my daughters how every time I eat a Desebrada Gordita Al Carbon from Gorditas Mi Torreon I feel like I am 8 years old traveling to Mexico with my grandparents and stopping to buy gorditas from the local street vendor. Nested in an old neighborhood southwest of downtown is a gem that serves two types of dishes only, gordita and sopa. The neighborhood is occupied with businesses. The strip center is run down. The exterior of the restaurant needs new paint. The interior of the restaurant is dated but homey. The overall vibe fits the genre of an excellent Mexican eatery only the locals know about. My wife and I loved the atmosphere. We dropped by on Saturday for a light lunch before visiting the San Antonio Historical Missions Park. The parking lot and restaurant were packed. Customers were waiting for seating and there was a line for take away. We did not want to wait for a table and decided to do take away. We plan to eat at one of the Missions panic area. Spanish was all we heard while waiting in line. When it was our turn, we were spoken to in Spanish. Good thing my high school poor Spanish resurfaced enough to order and request hot sauces. We were surprised that there was an option for flour gordita. We went with the traditional corn. Our chicharron and asada gorditas were delicious. The spices and grease were on point. Meats were tender and plentiful. Two gorditas per person were more than enough for a light lunch. At $3.50 each, it was a steal. What took this eatery from 4 stars to 5 stars for us were the green and orange hot sauces. The hot sauces were spicy but not burning, so additive. I was eating tortilla chips with the hot sauces at the hotel for evening snack. Service was very friendly and quick. We definitely will return. read more
