I find Gordo to be a solid 4 star burrito. Is it the best I've had? No. Would I say go out of your way for it? No. But, if you're nearby, have a hankering for Mexican - it's quick, easy and relatively affordable. I recently went and grabbed a chicken burrito. It was really good. I'd forgo the sour cream next time, since it overpowered, but overall, a nice ratio of rice, beans and protein (I did ask for light rice). The line was fairly long, so this spot is rightly popular. If you're on this part of College and needed something quick, easy and filling... I don't think you'll be disappointed. If you know you know, but this area on College is a little bit of a food death zone, especially for fast casual, to-go eats, so again, Gordo is kind of a win. They have kids menu options and my veggie friend enjoys their rice and bean quesadilla. Overall, the 3.5 star review average kept me from this spot, and unrightfully so. Give it a whirl! read more

We were able to place our order right up front, but be careful when they ask with everything. This is my neighborhood taqueria so I've been coming here for years. I've always really liked their veggie tacos, super burritos, and quesadillas. Tonight I ordered a Rice and Bean Taco with everything - pico, guacamole, verde, crema. I got cheese, rice, and beans. And the cheese wasn't even slightly melted. I think I was charged for the extras too. Also, lately when I go in, I notice that the women who work there use their hands to get meat from the hot bar. They wear gloves, but they don't wipe them off after touching the meat. It's really gross. The guys who work there never do this. Many times that I've gone there recently and noticed them doing this and I've walked out. I'm a vegetarian, but not so hardcore that I won't eat in places that serve meat. It's just, hey, the spoon is right there. Go when the guys are working. read more

We have been coming to Gordo Taqueria for years. We usually get it to go on our way in or out of the city or to bring it to enjoy at a park. It's a little Bay Area gem. Here is my breakdown for this rating: Food: 5/5 We love the food here. I always get a super burrito and my wife usually gets a plate. The amount of food you get for the price is excellent. The food is always hot and fresh and I love that they melt the cheese on the tortilla before putting the other ingredients on the burrito. They also have a hot sauce they put on their dishes that I really like (it's optional though). Ambiance/inside area: 2/5 It is very small and they have extremely limited seating inside. It's clean though but, it's much better to go. The seating they do have is small bar top style tables along the front entrance windows and it is very cramped in those 2 areas. Customer Service: 3/5 The customer service can be hit or miss. Most of the time it has been good. This time we went the customer service was 5/5. But, other times it has been 2/5. Sometimes it was missing items or no/delayed acknowledgement. Overall we love this place for a quick, good, reasonably priced meal. Solid 3.5 stars. We came today for late lunch around 2:30pm on a Sunday after a hike with our kiddos. We were all starving. Loved how quick and hassle free everything is here. You order, pick up the food and sit down (only couple community benches avaliable though). We were lucky to get a post to sit for kids. Tried some fried tacos and super burritos. The food is great here. It's tastes like a home cooked food more than a restaurant. I got the carnitas refried beans super burrito and it was delicious. The ingredients all taste fresh and the burrito is a good size. However, college students beware. The food is good, but what holds this place back is the price imo. $15 feels wrong especially when they are stingy with giving you one salsa to go, no limes, pickled carrots/jalapeños, chips. Literally nothing! The place is also small, so you almost have to do take out, which is fine, I have more of a problem with price and lack thereof other things like chips and salsa. The green salsa is very good though. I would recommend getting it. It's light and bright and oddly creamy? It's like smooth with slight heat. The service people are very nice. If you live close to here I would eat here often, but there are better places for cheaper that have salsa bars for less. read more

The Berkeley locals weren't kidding when they said there are no good Mexican restaurant in Berkeley. This was a very mid restaurant. The rice tasted like old stove and the steak wasn't that good either. They did recommend the chicken and it was better than the steak by a little bit. The best thing was their pico de gallo. It was spicy and flavorful. Also I felt a little scammed because I asked for a burrito and they asked if I wanted cheese, guacamole, or sour cream but they didn't specify that it was extra. I was confused because I didn't see those in the description for the burrito and had to double check and saw the things she asked was listed under "Extras". Rude staff, felt very unwelcoming, and could not pay them to smile. Anyways, Chicken Burrito was bland and lack a balance of portion (ate more rice and beans than anything else). For some odd reason this place don't do refried beans still (or maybe ran out when I went), and black beans were undercooked. I've practically been to all their locations and the best one would be on 9th Avenue in SF. The quality has fluctuated a lot over last 2-5 years. This time is more like a 2.5 but bc I want to love them it's a 3. Ofc the order was wrong, that's a given but you know that if you go here. The burrito is dry which is almost never the case but the did forget my creama even though I was charged for it. The biggest issue is they reduced the size of their burritos by a lot over the years. The super burrito now looks like a regular burrito. Also it just didn't taste the same today idk why. Their green sauce always fire at least that was right. I hate being disappointed here and have plenty of good orders but this one was just lackluster mostly the size of a $12 burrito that's super basic. This was a hard review to write. On one hand, I thought the flavors were spot on. Being from SoCal, it was easy to find awesome Mexican food, but it's been hard to find simple Mexican comfort food up here in the Bay. Most of it is fancy or with a twist. So I really enjoyed the flavors and the technique they use in cooking their food. BUT those were not refried beans I got. They were pinto beans and there's nothing wrong with that, but refried beans and whole pinto beans are very different. Also, I asked for hot sauce and didn't get any. I was very sad about that, but willing to assume it was an honest mistake, hence the four stars bordering on 3.5, but I liked it enough I didn't want to give it the 3 stars of death on Yelp. Still, how can you forget the hot sauce? FOOD: Overall, I was impressed with the flavor. The carnitas were slightly overcooked (and without sauce to balance out the dryness). The rice and beans were good (although again, I wanted refried beans). The pico and guacamole were very tasty and fresh. The corn quesadilla was good but small. And I wish the tortillas were handmade instead of store-bought. They weren't bad, but tasted a lot like the kind you can pick up at Safeway. I think anyone would prefer handmade tortillas. SERVICE: Dinged for the beans and the sauce but otherwise everything was packaged nicely. Since we DoorDashed it today, I didn't interact with the staff directly. COST: Good value on the carnitas. A bit pricey on the corn quesadilla considering it is literally just a tortilla and cheese. And a small one at that.
