Delicious food. I loved the chicken shawarma, falafel looked dry but I didn't try it so I can't say for sure. Couscous cooked perfect, tabbouleh salad not my favorite texture but I actually liked the addition of mint to the plate. The spicy sauce was necessary in here for me if it would have just been the hummus and sesame sauce it wouldn't have been as good. Complicated--Definitely not what I expected when I imagined a casual mediterranean place. Firstly, the service here was pretty great--friendly staff, virtually no wait. Very spacious location with lots of seating available. I'm used to eating more simplified mediterranean food so with all the variety in the ingredients my party was pretty overwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, having options is an amazing privilege but in my case, too confusing! I'm sad that I wasn't able to get the 5-star experience that other people had, but I had to try it still. My pita was chicken with many of the the ingredients. I haven't ever a pita that I could customize the pocket with special ingredients I could choose from individually. The mixing of the myriad of all my topping choices made me not be able to distinguish what I was eating, so to me it didn't taste particularly appealing. Got the half chicken half falafel pita and it was sooo filing. The falafel is fried really well and tastes really good. They give you samples of their pita with sauce in line, which is nice. The bowl and the pita pretty much has the same things except one has rice and the other has a pita. The pita can get a little messy to eat with all of the sauces but they put it in a cute box where you tear the sides of the box and use it as a holder so your hands won't get dirty. This is a great little place. I was impressed that the make almost everything from scratch. The pita, even though made there, was a little bland and dry, but everything else was good. Binky and I have been eating a LOT of food lately -- we decided we wanted something easy and HEALTHY for din din on a rather dreary Sunday night. I've passed by this location numerous times, and finally, we decided to give this place a go -- it seemed a lot like Chickpeas in Davis (I used to eat here a lot -- especially during finals week when I couldn't/wouldn't cook) -- and I was EXCITED for some crispy falafel, warm pita, and creamy hummus. We arrived around 5:00PM and the location was completely empty, with the exception of one couple in line before us. Chickpeas is a very large restaurant -- at least three times bigger than my initial expectations. The ordering is pretty standard "line" food style and both Binky and I ordered a pita wrap with falafel and multiple different toppings (Gotta Eatta Pita offers a Gotta Lotta Toppings -- the last three are EXTRA charge, however). We also ordered one baklava (located at the end of the counter) to share for dessert. Binky and I were AMAZED at how good the pita was -- we were oh-so-tempted to order yet another one to share after we finished (we somehow managed to contain ourselves and refrain) The ingredients were all very fresh and "pure" (meaning, not heavily seasoned -- the hummus, for example, tasted almost exclusively of chickpeas, olive oil, salt, and pepper). The stand-out ingredient in our pitas was CLEARLY the eggplant/tomato mixture. OMGoodness -- the tomatoes were subtly sweet, the eggplant was cooked nice and soft -- over the falafel, hummus, salad mixture, and covered in tahini sauce -- WOW. Absolutely delicious. The baklava was very neat and tidy (broke very easily). It was not OVERLY sweet nor sticky but had a very pleasant nougat-y, honey-ish taste -- YUM. The food is PERFECTION and more than deserving of five stars. The ONLY reason I took off one star is because the service was VERY slow (although not impolite). The boys behind the counter took quite a while to assemble our pita (despite being practically the only customers) and moreover, they seemed confused/startled at our questions, etc. I'm very thankful for the effort these boys put towards our meal, as they seemed rather young (high school?) and inexperienced, however, I would have appreciated if the service was a tad quicker. They're not kidding, you really gotta! I would have skipped this joint as I was looking for a quick pitstop meal and would've never thought pita. But once again my fellow Yelpers steered me right. First choice, instead of the bowl favored by many Yelpers, I ordered mine in a pita. Then I went half-and-half with falafel and chicken shwarma. I thought the chicken shwarma was the best of the two but the falafel was better than adequate. The hummus is good too, and they load you up with fixins. In rapid succession, I added mixed greens, purple cabbage, pickles, tabouli, tomato & onions, and Tahini. Then they served my jam-packed pita in a perfectly proportioned box, which has perforations to allow you to tear the top off of to create an easy-to-eat-out-of package! Spacious seating inside but a little antiseptic. Lots of tables outside, but it's a view of the strip mall or big boulevard to choose between. I peeked in the kitchen because the back door was open and it was reasonably clean for a fast food joint. The bathroom is pretty clean too. This helps make up for the lack of flora and fauna. I was most surprised to find they serve beer. Oaktown on tap even! And only four bucks!! I wasn't there for beer but it would've gone very well with my meal. The service style is just like Chipotle with a few choices to choose from. Stand back if this is your first time. Anyways I ordered a chicken shwarma sandwich with most of the fixings with the hot sauce. I also ordered the goat cheese for extra flavor. First off and even though I'm avoiding breads, how could I after receding the sample piece when I entered? :) the softness of the pita is outstanding as are all the ingredients. I especially liked the hot sauce. The take out box is ingenious as well: there's a perforated strip that you can tear along the middle of the box which makes eating the sandwich (at least the top half) much easier. I've officially ate here three times, it's like Chipotle but it's Greek - Mediterranean food . My bowls always get extra soggy , and I feel like I don't get an ample amount of chicken because there are so many "fillers", and I get everything. Don't take me wrong , you get an ample amount of found for about $10. I didn't know that I could get the sauces on the side until the second time I went. The actual pita it self had very little chicken, and again everything is just commingled and too soggy for my taste. I wish the employees would tell me what is what , I went during lunch a couple times and one time before they closed. During lunch time they are super busy so the employees can't chat and tell you what is what. It's a great concept , ton of places to sit however I think it's essential to ask what your getting . They give you a ton of food , and quality of the food is good . I would like to start by saying that I have been to this place several times, and usually we are met with friendly service and bowls that are bursting at the seams as seen in many other photos. Today unfortunately was not the case. I ordered two bowls and a kids plate. We always get the falafel and a few sides to accompany. The eggplant is our favorite so we always ask for a little extra in place of the other sides we don't end up getting. We received extremely skimpy amounts of all the sides and even when I asked for a little more eggplant I was met with a tiny extra dollop. It seems that they are taking the portion control to a whole new level. Even the half a pita on the kids plate was much smaller than the standard pita. These bowls are not cheap, and I realize they already took away the extra pita that used to be included with the bowl. We are ok with that and usually order an entire pack to accompany our meals. We Love frequenting this place because we can get two meals out of one bowl with the additional pack of pita purchased. Today we were left hungry after finishing off our entire bowl. Sad to see such huge cutbacks. We understand needing to pull back, but when we asked for a few pickles on the kids plate we were told that was considered a side dish and would typically be charged more.
