Two of us got shrimp fried rice, one got pepper beef (we shared), another got wings and egg rolls. The only complaint was the egg rolls. She said they were all cabbage and no meat. Do not go by the photo menu prices online. Those are old prices. I asked for a takeout to keep at my job and was told they do have takeout menus. I found that to be odd for a Chinese restaurant. Nice hole in the wall Chinese food restaurant located off Forest Lane. The ambiance inside is really nice in my opinion and definitely will catch you by surprise. I got orange chicken with fried rice and for the most part really enjoyed my meal. The orange chicken was good all around, including the sauce, which will have you re-dipping the chicken in while you eat it's that good. The rice on the other hand could definitely had been better. Keep in mind, I got their basic rice with my meal, so maybe it's better if you get another version. However, the rice I got couldn't have been more basic and the soy sauce is what saved it from being something I wouldn't have ate at all. The service inside was nice from what I could tell. Keep in mind, I placed my order over the phone and wasn't there long. Gourmet China is typically hit or miss. When it's off it's all the way off but when it's on it's amazing and today it was good. Like others have said the fried rice is bland. And that is spot on each and every time, the fried rice has no taste. The spring rolls are good just a bit greasy. The Mongolian beef was very flavorful as was the Kung Lao shrimp. Called in a to go order of spicy chicken fried rice, white meat only, yesterday for lunch. The person who took my order, who was also the person at the counter when I picked it up, was friendly and efficient. The price point was fine. But the food...meh. Not spicy at all (fortunately, based on past experiences, I asked for chili sauce also). The rice and chicken were pretty dry. It wasn't awful, I mean I ate it...but it really wasn't good either. It might not be totally fair to base my judgement of this restaurant on one dish ordered to go, but based on what I ate, I don't think I'll be giving it another try. read more

First impression as you walk in, typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese take-out place with limited seating. Cleaner than most, orderly, and well-kept. Small added bonus, a self-serve soda fountain. Most places of this type either serve canned soda or charge for refills. I ordered the shrimp curry with steamed rice and a bowl of hot and sour soup. At $15 with a drink, it's just way too pricey for the mediocre quality you get. I'll be adding a picture to go with it. Its the one with my laptop in the background. I find that hot and sour soup tends to tell a lot about how a Chinese restaurant's quality will be across the board because it's a complex soup that requires a lot of ingredients and takes some skill to get the flavor right. And gourmet this place is NOT. The hot and sour soup was neither hot, nor sour. It was pretty much a thin broth, small pieces of overcooked tofu, peas, a bit of egg, a hint of heat, and a hint of rice wine vinegar, and the overpowering flavor of black sesame oil. No wood ear mushrooms, button mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tiger lily buds, or green onion. The shrimp curry wasn't much better. Small frozen shrimp, about the size you'd use in an alfredo pasta dish, not an entree like this. A thin sauce that was mostly chili sauce and curry powder. Tons of cubed zucchini, which puzzled me since it's not something I think of in a Chinese dish. Peas, and diced onion, and some very dried out rice that needed the thin sauce to give it some life again. read more

My brothers and I have been coming here since we were kids, and it's just as excellent now as it was 23 years ago. The food is excellent, especially the Hunan Beef. The portions are big and very reasonably priced, and the service is quick, efficient and friendly. The owners are very hands-on and hospitable, and they--along with the outstanding food--are the reason I've been coming back for decades. I recommend this place to all my Dallas friends, as well as anyone new to or visiting Dallas and will continue to sing its praises as long as I live. How do you approach a review of your basic Chinese Food Place? Is it a 5-star dining experience? No. Did it radically disappoint? No. So, set your expectations: this is your basic chinese food restaurant, that surprisingly, is so hard to find these days. It is reasonably priced, reasonably clean, and the food is good. I particularly like that it isn't overly salty. The vegetables seem fresh, although the chicken is grade B quality. So, if your expectation is a quick Chinese food served hot and well made, then this is your place. Service is very fast. I've been 2x now, and I will return. read more

Small but clean space with large following of TI employees, the dining room was packed. Quick service and customizable plate options. Had the orange chicken and fried rice. If they ask you if you want your plate spicy and it's already denoted as a spicy item on the menu. Say no. The chili peppers had my mouth on fire. Sweet and very spicy chicken chunks that were lightly breaded and glazed, which I like so I don't get hard chunks of fried flour. The lunch portion of fried rice was a different style from their dinner portion. It didn't include any scrambled eggs pieces that I look forward to and no snow peas or onions or carrots. One of my co-workers took me to this place for lunch and I was truly surprised when I got my plate and took the first bite. IT WAS AMAZING! I had gotten the Curry Chicken and my Co worker had gotten the Sesame Chicken, we decided to split our plates so we each had some of the others food, The Curry Chicken was top notch and the Seasme Chicken had a sauce I had never had before with Seasme Chicken and it make the flavors burst out. We have since eaten there many times and I continue to enjoy it. There is one down-side in my eyes with this place. The egg-rolls are $1.15 a piece and they are just filled with cabbage. I'm hoping it was a bowl because of the price but decided I didn't want to spend that much on soup. Now to our order. My daughter and mother-in-law split chicken fried rice. Note if you like white meat vs. dark meat make sure you specify because otherwise it will be dark. There is an upcharge but totally worth it. This dish was good. I ordered the sesame chicken and requested it spicy. It was really good. Good sauce, chicken was tender, not fatty at all. My husband ordered the winning dish in my book - Chicken Broccoli with white meat. This was SOOOOOOO good. It's cooked in a light broth, broccoli was fresh and crisp, chicken was great. A winning combination, healthy, etc. I'm already craving this dish in fact. Now for the best part. The majority of the entrees are $5.50. I'm thinking their must be $1.00 upcharge for white chicken because for 3 entrees and 1 ice tea our total came to $26.00. Not bad, not bad at all. Give them a try!! read more

Independent Chinese diner hidden in the middle of a weathered strip mall, easy to overlook. The interior is diner basic with little decor and counter service only. (Opening the blinds might lend a little lightness and air to the place.) Ordered the kung pao chicken off the menu board, fried rice, added an eggroll. The kung pao was pretty basic, a step up from fast food but with no real heat at all. The eggroll was not only homemade but cooked at order, and would be exceptional if it had any filling other than just plain cabbage. The customers were sparse at a weekday lunch, and it appeared that most of the business was call-in, to-go orders while I was there. A decent place, inexpensive and convenient for the area but not a stand-out. read more

This restaurant is awesome, I go here as often as I can. I order the broccoli chicken. When I walk in, the manager who works the cash register is friendly and speedy, which I like. My boyfriend has been coming here for a few years and when he calls in the order to go, they already know who he is and what he wants to order, and she knows him by name! Once you order, your food is ready in less than 10 mintes. The broccoli chicken has a great sauce and NO MSG (which is a plus because I don't get hungry 30 min after I eat). This is a great place to go and is consistent and cheap for a good, large portion meal. read more

My family has been eating food from here for over 20 years, and It's still owned by the same family. The food is consistently good and as others have said large portions that are easily shareable. The interior is always clean and in order. Free drink refills from the soda fountain, and condiments available for your table.They draw a nice lunch crowd from employees who work at Texas Instruments, just around the corner.
