Idc I'll defend Gra til the day I die. At first I was like okay whatever it's pizza. No -- You have to find which pizza and wine combo on the menu makes your taste buds come alive. For me it's the Banger + usually one of the special's they have on the menu that constantly rotates. I recently discovered the Prosciutto pizza which I was deliiiighted to find out is a staple on the menu + tried their newest special the Cheese and Onion. Amazing, delicious. I live across the street and come here often, and I joke around that it's always funny to see what the amuse bouche will be. It's yummy and a little silly. Wasn't very impressed...unfortunately. I had high expectations due to reviews coming from Instagram; however, I wasn't very impressed with the food. Food: Ordered the beef tartare and 2 pizzas. The beef tartare was very underwhelming. Could barely taste the beef due to the absurd amount of pickled onion on top. It was pickled onion completely covering the beef tartare with a slim layer of beef underneath it all. Disappointed, as it felt like a rip off. The 2 pizzas had great flavor overall, but the pizza itself was way too sour (sourdough crust). The sour taste was overpowering the rest of the pizza which was unfortunate. The thickness of the pizza and crust were spot on though. Service: Good service. The woman who served us was on her phone a lot and seemed very uninterested in being there, but we still got the food in an appropriate amount of time and overall service was ok! I wasn't planning to visit A Woodfire Pizza that day, but I'm really glad I did. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and I'd definitely recommend making a reservation since it can get busy. We started with the Market Lettuce salad, which came with crème fraîche, lemon, herbs, fried capers, and parmesan. It was absolutely perfect--fresh, well-balanced, and full of flavor. For pizza, we tried the pepperoni, and it did not disappoint. The crust had a great texture with a subtle smoky flavor from the wood fire, and the pepperoni was both spicy and delicious. I had been wanting to try Grá for some time now and I was glad I finally got to try it out! The ambiance here is really lovely, and the service is pretty fast. The pizzas were really good, but I think I might have come in with too high expectations. I also really wish they still had the Kimchi Pizza, I've heard great things about it. I definitely prefer the flavor profile of the pizzas at Quarter Sheets, which I consider a top 3 to 5 pizza place in LA. However, Grá is fantastic as a sit down spot where you're having some nice wine and enjoying the wonderful music and ambiance. We enjoyed some of the orange wine with our pizzas and the cesar salad was pretty delicious as well. Since the pizzas are neapolitan style and not very large the are not that heavy after you eat it and one person can definitely finish a whole pizza by themselves. The quality of the ingredients definitely shined through, but you can easily spend a lot here even if you don't order much. Finally got around to trying Gra. Parking a little tough at times but found a spot across the street. How much do I love this place? When you walk into it, it feels like you're entering a spa more than a restaurant. And the fact that I get to stare at a DJ booth stacked with vinyl being the vinyl fiend that I am made me very happy. I want to DJ there!! I would do it for free just to get some more of that pizza. Came here on a Friday night with a friend, and Grá definitely did not disappoint! Being in their second year of being recognized by the Michelin guide, that expectation was definitely met. I recently visited Gra and had a pretty mixed experience. When we were first seated, a server came by to pour still water. I asked if we could instead get bottled sparkling water, and the reaction felt oddly put off; like we were inconveniencing her by asking. Not the best first impression. Service continued to be slow after that. We were ready to order but waited quite a while before anyone came back to take it. When we finally did order, we started with the cucumber salad... which unfortunately arrived with a long blonde hair in it. To their credit, they took it back, but it definitely set the tone. We then ordered two pizzas, a pepperoni and a white pizza, and this is where things turned around. Both pizzas were genuinely delicious: great sourdough crust, well-balanced toppings, and definitely the highlight of the meal. That said, when I was ordering the white pizza, the server came across a bit condescending because I didn't know the exact name for it, which felt unnecessary. Later, we ordered another cucumber salad because it was delicious and a third pizza that we wanted to try. When placing that order, the server noticeably looked at the amount of food already on our table and seemed judgmental. I even felt the need to explain that we just wanted to try a variety, which was awkward and uncomfortable. To top it off, we were seated in a far corner of the outdoor patio where there are these pointy plants at about eye level. They were literally in the way throughout the meal and felt like a hazard; honestly something the restaurant should reconsider. Overall, the food, especially the pizzas, was excellent. But the service felt unwelcoming and a bit unprofessional, which really took away from the experience. Maybe it was just an off day, but based on this visit, I'm not sure I'd rush back. read more

One of the coziest restaurants in the city. Grá is tucked away in echo park and has this gorgeous, low-lit, romantic atmosphere. Perfect for date night or dinner with a small group of close friends. I really like the ambiance and decoration in the place, and despite the shared seating that we chose, it wasn't too bad and introduced me to something I'd never done before. I thought the service was pretty helpful, but it wasn't told to us that the sauces were extra, so although it wasn't much, that would've been nice to know, as we ordered multiples. We did have to send back one of the pizzas because it was wrong, but the new pizzas were yummy and light, and with the addition of the honey, it definitely took it up a notch. The staff was super welcoming and everything felt relaxed and enjoyable. Friend wanted to try this place, it definitely has good ambiance and a great wine list. We started with a wedge salad, an albacore carpaccio and clams. All are decent, chicken liver moose was shredded rather than whole, which was an interesting approach, this semi "molecular" approach is also visible in their other dishes even pizza. Their pineapple pizza has pineapple sauce instead of whole chunk, and their anchovies pizza might used anchovies infused tomato sauce? Not much anchovies visible but you can definitely taste it. All in all it's a decent restaurant, but there's time limit so keep in mind, we had to get out because there's another group waiting. I don't recommend their desserts, maybe it's a personal taste. And their pizzas are just fine not the best, but if you are close by and really want to try it, it's still a nice place. read more

Dined at Grá for girls night out. Ambiance and vibes - impeccable. Food, unfortunately wish I could say I Loved it. Started with some white wine and Tartar. Tartar was lovely except needed something crunchy to pair with, and perhaps a dash of acidity. Shared the prosciutto with basil, honey, coffee pizza and probably 7/10. Dough was exceptionally soft and mochi-like, but our pizza was cold. Is it supposed to be? Honestly needed more ooomph. Perhaps some pine nuts? Ended with both desserts. I'd made a reservation on Resy about two weeks before and it was easy to get one at prime time on a Saturday night. They have two dining areas, one which is a covered outdoor patio, and another which is indoor. The outdoor patio is airy, lush and filled with plants. We ordered two appetizers to share, the cucumber salad and the straciatella. Both were decent serving sizes and had great flavor. The cucumber salad was not as refreshing as I thought it'd be, as it was served with a very heavy, nutty sauce. For mains, we shared the prosciutto and straciatella pizza. I thought this sounded so unique as it had coffee-infused honey on it. You could definitely taste the honey, but the coffee taste was so subtle it was barely there. We did share a slice of New York cheesecake for dessert, which both of us enjoyed a lot. This is a friend's favorite pizza place in LA so maybe I had very high expectations for it, but it felt a little underwhelming on this occasion. Either way, I'll probably try it again. read more

Came here for a date night on a weekend night with a reservation, we were sat immediately. The ambiance of this place is top tier. Very classy and an upscale looking place to bring a date. The dim lighting, open kitchen format, and high ceilings really elevated the experience. We ordered the Margherita and Mushroom Pizza. The pizzas also came with a Fermented pineapple shot to cleanse palette. The shot was an interesting concept, and I would agree that it cleansed my palette. My favorite pizza was the mushroom pizza. There was flavor within these pizzas, but it did not wow me. One downside for the pizza was the crust. It was way too burnt. I understand that there needs to be a little charred and a little burnt, but the pizza was practically all black on the bottom. The service was below par at this place. Despite being sat immediately, the server did not seem too thrilled to serve us. It came off as a little rude, but hopefully they're having a bad day. Basically, each group was placed at a separate corner of a large table, so it still felt private and intimate despite technically being "communal" We ordered the market lettuce, and for pizzas we got the white, and the banger. Everything we ordered was excellent. The market lettuce was basically a Caesar salad but the fried capers added a nice saltiness. For the pizzas, I loved the sourdough crust and how light it made the pizzas feel. The white pizza seemed a little bland, and a bit heavier but the pesto had a very good flavor. The banger pizza was easily my favorite dish, the honey drizzle on it added the right amount of sweetness. We also were provided an amuse bouche of fermented grapes in seasonal spices . AMAZING pizza. Probably the best pizza I've had at a restaurant in a long time. Crust is ultra thin but doesn't get soggy and limp (as many pizzas tend to do). We got the banger, mushroom, and market salad. Mushroom had this great truffle oil that was super fragrant, but the banger was a nice combination because switching between the slices made me appreciate the truffle more. (Eating only the mushroom pizza would've dimmed the flavor). Would love to come back and try their pickled cucumbers though. We sat on the patio and we came at night so it was really dim but their space heaters were really strong and from what I could tell, the patio would be nice during the day time. I love a restaurant that is consistently good and Grá certainly hits that mark. A charming spot in Echo park, it really has a lot going on for it. Though the inside is stunning, I almost always choose to eat outside. The Al fresco vibes are reminiscent of Europe, service is always warm and friendly, and the pizza is flavorful and the perfect size. The mushroom pizza is hands down my favorite. They pack on the oyster mushrooms and the added truffle oil, porcini cream, and Gouda really amp up the umami flavor. My friends got The White Pizza and The Banger, which are also tasty. Grá also has an extensive wine list and I appreciate the knowledge that the servers have about the wine's regions, preparations, and tasting notes. What an absolutely beautiful location for some delicious "fancy pizza" and wine! If you're looking for some of the freshest sourdough pizza you've ever had, look no further. The flavor combinations range from classic margarita or pepperoni, to really unique flavors like our favorite of the night: Stracciatella and Prosciutto which features coffee-infused honey. Keep in mind that these are very thin pizzas, to where you could order 3-4 pizzas for a table of 4 and be fine! As a side note, the super-friendly server teased us with an absolutely delicious fermented pineapple juice at the start of the meal, but we then learned that we couldn't order it as a full beverage! That's odd, but it seems like perhaps they're testing it out to gauge interest before making it available as a menu item. For some cosmic reason, over the years, my wife (aka "the real foodie") and I have developed this ability to show up at just the right time and get a table without a reservation. We used to kind of laugh up our sleeve about it like we were getting away with something but now we just sort of expect it. This is how we ended up at Grá. We were just driving around one day and decided we would just go eat there. To be honest, it was right at opening but at first it didn't look like we were going to be able to get in. But then, after some discussions between staff members, they found us a nice little table for two. No effort whatsoever on our part. What then ensued was a pizza experience like no other. Grá is a nice open space, not complicated. People are there to eat pizza. The menu is simple, not epic in any way. But please pay attention to the descriptions. The mushroom pizza is not ordinary, nor is the white. Both were combinations of amazing flavors and textures in the most wonderful proportions. And while we're mentioning that things are not so simple as they seem at Grá, we must talk about the seemingly inconsequential "Market Lettuces" salad. What an unexpected surprise it was! Next time we visit I think our plan will be to order two salads and one pizza to share. I would also say that the service was exceptional, both in the willingness of our server to create our best possible dining experience and the rest of the staff to only interfere when absolutely necessary.
