I went to this place on a Tuesday night. There we 2 other people there. So if your looking for a quite place to dine this is perfect for you. Needless to say the service was pretty good since our waiter had to tend to only two tables. The food is pretty good as well. This is a true old Glendale gem. Really lovely atmosphere and the waiters are always incredibly helpful and insightful on what to choose/pair on the menu. The menu is self is a little limited but everything I've had so far is delicious. They go the extra mile with each pasta dish in terms of making them authentic to the various region of Italy. You can usually identify it in the sea of office buildings by the giant round ambient lights out front. You'll see a lot of lifers as you might call them - people who have been visiting for years and years. I have myself have been a resident of Glendale for over 10 years and never have turn down the opportunity to have a great bite to eat here. It's upscale, and classy. I gave it four stars only because as much as I love the traditional Italian fair it would be good to add some modernity to both the menu and the decor it's self. My husband and I decided to try out Gennaro's last night and I'm very happy we did! When we got sat our server greeted us with menus and of course I got to asking the history of the place. Our server informed us that the original chef was back and the food quality was back to being amazing since owners have changed also. We ordered the calamari and a bottle of wine. The appetizer was excellent. The wine was great. The service was beyond perfect. The ambiance was very warm with flower decors and live pianist. Our pasta dishes arrived and I must compliment this chef for his work of art on a plate. It was so impressive! The seafood was so fresh it melted in your mouth and the sauce was homemade...it couldn't have been better. I've had pasta like this at my moms house and in Vegas. The staff were very friendly and again the service was amazing I most certainly will be coming back and bringing my clan with me. I love Gennaro's !!! I don't usually like to leave bad reviews, but I feel like this one was really necessary. I had never been to this restaurant before, but from what I hear it used to be fabulous. We went there for dinner recently, and from the moment we walked in, I knew it was going to be a nightmare. If you've ever watched shows like Restaurant Impossible or Kitchen Nightmares, this would be a PERFECT candidate restaurant to be on one of those shows. Just to name a few things that were wrong: 1) When the waiter was describing the specials of the day, he pronounced the "T" in filet. 2) While pouring the wine, he dribbled wine all over the menus 3) We ordered a $42 seafood dish, which contained scallops, salmon, and lobster - ALL of which were obviously frozen for who knows how long and overcooked beyond belief. 4) The waiter never served anything to the ladies first without being asked to do so. 5) There was a guitar player/singer providing in-house entertainment, and while he wasn't bad, the sound set up was very odd. You could hear his guitar from across the room, but ONLY his voice was loudly coming out from the speaker above our heads. It sounded very ghostly and strange. Anyways, in my humble opinion, this restaurant REALLY needs help. I would love to see Robert Irvine (from Restaurant Impossible) come in and whip whoever's now in charge of this restaurant into shape. Until that happens, stay away unless you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money for crappy food. Seriously...you're probably better off at Sizzler's than this place. read more

yikes....saturday night and the place was empty. whatever, maybe it was a slow night or maybe the food was served COLD. maybe the filet i ordered and the steak my gf ordered did not have any flavor. It was Valentine's and we were heading out to Olive Garden but i called and they said waiting time was 1 hour and they're closing in about an hour. SO i looked up on my phone for a quick place to eat. Found Gennaro's Ristorante and called them they said waiting time is about 5 mins...i was like " IM SO THERE"! This place is nice if you're a wine lover. But the food is okay, the price is sky high, well to me it is unless your super rich and it is okay to spend around $20-$50 on a dish. I had this pasta i really forgot what it's called but my boyfriend had the lobster ravioli and its pretty good, i still dont think it should cost that much. The atmosphere is very nice laid back and homie. Live piano playing and server is really nice. My check came out around $70 for two pasta dishes and an appertizer. But after all this would be a restaurant i've just try out and that's it. Im back to Olive Garden ! read more

Service was EXCELLENT!! From the moment we walked in we were given great customer service. Everyone was helpful and friendly. My husband and I went to Gennaro's for our 20th wedding anniversary. We were greeted by a jovial Enrique Feldman, a master waiter extraordinaire! He took excellent care of us. He recommended the most delicious red wine Remole Toscana 2011. He selected and split a delicious dinner salad of spinach, blue cheese and pear, then we ordered the salmon with artichoke and also the scallops with capellini. The food was perfectly cooked and presented. For dessert we had a simple vanilla ice cream with chocolate and nuts. To add to this perfect meal and service, they had a wonderful performer, Robert Bonanni. He played and sang romantic love songs on guitar. Not only did he serenade us with some beautiful Italian love songs in honor of our anniversary, but he also performed a gorgeous original tune he wrote for his wife, entitled, "Patricia". It brought tears to his eyes and everyone in the restaurant was mesmerized by his heartfelt performance. Roberto sings in several "romantic" languages... French, Spanish and Italian. We tipped him well because he deserved it... Gennaro's has seen it's ups and downs over the last few years. We are so happy that it is MOST DEFINITELY on the up swing. Come back and come back often. Was hoping for better. Misto salad was so vinegary i could not eat at all. Waiter watched it sit there for 10-15 minutes, finally just took it away obviously uneaten, never asked and never hovered long enough for me to say that why it was uneaten. Bad sign. Main course was ok, a penne with roasted red pepper & cream basil sauce. A few sparse bits of spinach. Waiter did offer fresh parmmesiano & pepper. Service was very rapid delivery but really unpersonalized. Nice piano player. Was not worth the bill, was not memorable, would not return. Even if the food is less than heavenly, proper wait service can make or break the experience. They were not inattentive, but also did not really add to the experience at all. For an upscale locale the staff should be part of the experience. I agree, a fine line. I think the fact that they never even asked why my salad was untouched left me unsatisfied with the meal. I'm not a big complainer and will not say something unless asked, but that was an obvious sign. read more

Sadly disappointing. Started with a vodka tonic that the bartender did not know enough to bring limes. The inexperienced waiter, who just came back from a cigarette break and smelled of smoke throughout the entire meal, did not allow us to taste the wine before pouring and filled our glasses nearly to the brim. In addition, he re-corked the bottle and set it on the table for us to manage. That was after going through several wine selections that were not available as "management was in the process of re-doing the wine list". The salads were lifeless and over vinegared. My guest needed a chain saw to get through the lamb dish and the Scallops with Pasta dish was heavily weighted with a butter/cream sauce that literally upset my stomach as I write this piece. This place needs help if they want to continue to charge sky high prices for very marginal food. This establishment is definitely a candidate for Chef Ramsey to close down and start over. Too many other great restaurants to have to waste your money on this outfit! Don't bother! read more

Average place at best. We arranged ahead of time a family style meal for 22 people. Price included four bottles of cheap house wine for $60 per person. Service was terrible, with no one checking to see if we needed anything, e.g., coffee (supposedly included) and when some of the guests asked for coffee, sour look on the waiter's face showed his service spirit. For the price we paid, we got ordinary food--and not much of it. Over the course of the evening, probably three other couples had dinner, so being busy was not the reason. Very very disappointed with our dinning experience at Gennaros,last visit was about 13 years ago & the food was excellent,this time around...Blah!! Asparagus soup was good but my entree was awful,pasta way over cooked,sauce too salty & scallops obviously frozen.The service was good but whan you are paying high prices you expect the food to be up to par also.Will not be going there again & my advice to anyone thinking of going.....save your money & go to the Olive garden....im serious!! read more

I met a new date there for lunch. It was empty. We had service when needed and it was most pleasant. The food was good but the particular selection we shared not great. Because we were the only two people it the rather large room it was certainly quiet. We were able to converse and get to know each other. Would we go back? We came here again for our 20th wedding anniversary and Gennaro's did not disappoint! In fact, they went all out to make our experience wonderful. The waiter, Enrique was attentive and gave us excellent service. He started us with a spinach salad with pear and blue cheese which he split for us. Then came salmon and artichoke. The salmon was very well cooked. It melted in your mouth. I had scallops which were tender and large. The capellini was a wonderful addition. Complimenting the meal was a very smooth Remole Toscana 2011 wine which Enrique picked for us. There was a guitar player who played romantic songs and sang in french, spanish and italian. We ate at Gennaro's a week before Christmas this year and were so impressed that we arranged to have our annual Christmas Eve family dinner there for eleven of us. The manager even let me arrive at 5 PM to set up my candelabras and table decorations so it was just the way I wanted it. The restaurant is elegant and lovely. The staff are very professional and pleasant. They don't interrupt your conversation, but serve beautifully refilling your wine glass so that you don't even know they're there! The food was spectacular! So fresh and yummy. I had the pasta with seafood and it was excellent. My other guests were delighted with the Filet Mignon, other pastas and even gluten free dishes. The dessert was fantastic and the breads baked right there in their own kitchen so it was warm, light and so delicious. The pianist was pro and the mate'r d was also delightful. We are going again tonight for dinner because we just love the atmosphere and the food is so quality. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! And we are world travelers who have dined in the finest restaurants in NYC, London, Paris, Tokyo and L.A. This place measures up - definitely try it! read more

Food was great, service not so much. At the end of our pleasant dinner we asked if he could split our bill between the two couples. NOT HARD AT ALL. Basically the same just put our pals two drinks on their tab since my hubby and I didn't drink. We were then given a quick snarky, "You should have told me sooner". Listen dude, this is your job and why even make a comment to your clientele. Split it down the middle and add an additional 18 to the other couple. Needless to say the food was pretty good but what we all thought was that the BREAD BASKET was out of this world. Shoot forget dinner bring us more bread. They have a yummy toasted baguette with some cream cheese caper spread on top, and the best is the PIZZA bread. so scrumptious. I have never left a yelp review before but I felt the need to this time. My husband took me here for a romantic night out and at first I was impressed with how nice the restaurant was. The ambiance was nice and it had a romantic feel. Then it all went bad when we were seated. The waitress sat us at a table that had a dirty, food stained cloth over it. The waitress has no experience serving at all!! She can't really speak english very well so we had a hard time understanding each other. We asked for wine and she had absolutely no experience with bottle service at all. We ordered our food and I did not get what I ordered, I am assuming because of the language barrier. The food was good but I would not recommend going to this restaurant if you are looking for high class service. They only had one waitress who has no experience and struggled taking our orders because she barely knows english. I could not imagine what would happen if more tables came in. I will not come back to this place until they hire a waiter that actually speaks english and has at least SOME experience in restaurant service. I mean we are in an english speaking country and nobody speaks english there. I cannot believe such a nice place gives such inexperienced service! My advice is hire english speaking servers or this place will go out of business again, unfortunately. read more

Genarros is now Graf. It is being modernized, which might be fine, eventually. We didn't know this when we reserved it for our holiday lunch. Eight of us showed up. The parking lot is apparently being used for storage for wave runners and an old limosine, so we had to tandem park ourselves. There was one waitress and a manager/owner who disappeared after he served the first bottle of wine (without allowing a taste). The services was so slow and disjointed as to be funny. Appetizers came after entrees, or not at all. When I asked about my entrée several minutes after everyone else was eventually served the waitress looked at me and said "you didn't order anything", which was ridiculous. I finally got a salad. Coffee and desert were begrudgingly served later. There was no follow up on our wine, water, etc. The only thing that was complete was the bill, which included all the items that were messed up. Perhaps they will get it together eventually, but this nice restaurant has been transformed into a culinary nightmare. read more

We've been coming here for years and consider it our "neighborhood" restaurant. Yes, it is quiet and yes, less people have been coming here (Gennaro sold the restaurant to a local couple who are less of a "draw" but fortunately haven't changed out the excellent staff). If you like your fish perfectly cooked and your pasta with wonderful sauces, this is the place for you. If you're looking for nouveau cuisine or molecular gastronomy, forget it. But that's not what this place is about, anyway. It's a place where you can have a quiet conversation for as long as you like without the waiter rushing you or intruding, where you can order a dish just the way you like and the chef will cook it for you if he has the ingredients and where the staff work as a well-coordinated, seamless team. By the way, you can order less expensive options and the "cheap" wine is very enjoyable. We hope it stays in business for a few decades more. read more

We got a Groupon for this place despite the mixed reviews. Well, there is a new owner and the place has some really great dishes. The scampi over potato sticks was a terrific start to our meal. Next we split the pear and walnut salad. I am sorry but I don't remember the name but it was also very good. The wonderful bread basket had great variety and really complimented the salad. I chose the chicken and shrimp in a wonderful cognac sauce paired with potato, broccoli, a baby carrot. My partner had the salmon that was perfectly cooked and presented. Our waiter Vic was great. He was friendly, readily available but not intrusive. We enjoyed the entire meal , the house wine, the great service, the piano player and the old school charm, This is not an inexpensive restaurant but for a great romantic evening with quality service, food and live music , it was a hit for us!
