My friend and I came here for happy hour to celebrate her birthday! Let me just give you a forewarning that the portions at happy hour are the normal portions that they have at dinner. My friend and I ordered two salads, and a calmer appetizer. The salads were huge. I felt like the bowl was never ending, which I was not upset about! We actually ended up boxing up the rest of our food and accidentally left at the table because we were just so excited to be hanging out! The drinks were light and refreshing, and for a happy hour menu it's definitely very chill. Aperitivo for sure. Upon our arrival, it appeared that valet parking was the only option available, as we were unfamiliar with the area and didn't see any other parking spots. Once inside, we were promptly seated and our server allowed us ample time to look over the menu. To start, we ordered the brussels sprouts, garlic bread, and their renowned meatballs. Unfortunately, the brussels sprouts were overcooked and barely edible, while the garlic bread was tasty and light. As for the meatballs, they were average, with Nonnas' being the standout of the six. I was torn between ordering pizza or pasta and ultimately decided on the Mezzaluna, but it failed to impress me. I have been to Grana twice before & had a good experience so I decided to come give their pizza a try. I love the set up of their restaurant with the unique light fixtures, two floor seating, & the open layout of the kitchen. My biggest critique of this restaurant is how incredibly limiting the pastas & pizzas are if you do not eat pork. Many of the pasta sauces you cannot replace or remove the meat leaving us with 2 pasta options & 3 pizza options I believe. I know their menu changes seasonally so maybe during another time I will be more lucky. They encourage family style eating which I love. Their pizza didn't disappoint & I would recommend coming here for a casual outing & sharing apps & pizza! Local Beef Meatballs: 8/10 Good size meatballs with great flavor & not dry. Would definitely order these again & if you eat pork there is more to choose from that sounded good! House Salad: 8/10 A good simple salad with a great homemade dressing. Made a reservation via phone and visited Grana on 7/14/23 at 7:15pm. Loved the interior ambiance which features an open kitchen concept, beautiful light fixtures and intina seating. My server was quick to welcome me and get us started with water. Fairly quickly I noticed it was pretty warm in the restaurant. I assumed it was because of the open kitchen and I figure I would cool down quickly especially after I ordered a drink. It did not. After a little while I asked our server about the temperature and she let me know that the AC was broken and that it would be fixed the following day. Immediately my heart went out to the cooks, and staff who were expected to work under these conditions. July being the hottest month of the year, working in a kitchen which uses large ovens does not seem ethical. If I am a guest and I am uncomfortable with the heat, I cannot imagine how taxing that was for the staff. Not only should I have been told about the AC issue before sitting down, the restaurant should have closed for the day. If I had not ordered before learning about the AC issue I would have left. I ended up ordering an Aperol Spritz, Giardano and Berry Smash (zero proof). I did not love Giardano, it was bitter and strong, I ended up sending it back and ordering a glass of Prosecco instead. As far as food I ordered the Crispy Potatoes, the Roni, the Potato, and the New Yorker pizzas. The food came out very quickly. The crispy potatoes and all three pizzas were delicious. Due to the heat in the restaurant I could not bare to eat that much hot food but the bites I did have were great. The potato pizza was unique and unlike anything I have ever had especially with the wonderful truffle honey, pistachio garnish! Overall my server was wonderful and the food amazing. Unfortunately the AC issue and failure to put "staff first" by closing the restaurant due to the conditions really rubs me the wrong way and so I will not be visiting Grana again unless more context to the issue is given. read more

This was my second time at Grana! When I first went I LOVED it! food was delicious. I decided to take my friends for them to check it out! Again, food and service wasn't anything to complain about. My only complaint this visit was that the AC was out. For reference, I work in a Residential Building at a large University where some of my work is dealing with facilities issues. I say that to say, I am more than understanding that a lot of times, facility issues happen that are out of our control. My biggest feedback is I want to hold the manager and or owner accountable on their poor decision on keeping the restaurant running and lack of communication. I understand that it's a business. I also recognize that the way the restaurant is set up (open pizza ovens as show in photo) creates more heat throughout the facility. Not only that but it is the middle of July in GA. Almost every customer in there was fanning themselves with the menus because it was uncomfortably hot. My friends and I didn't finish our meals because of the level of discomfort we felt from the environment. I didn't even feel AS bad for us, I felt bad for the employees. To have cooks and servers making and serving hot food in that condition is not sustainable. I also feel as if this should have been communicated to us in advance when I booked the reservation (which was earlier that afternoon meaning they had already known about the AC issues because according to my server this was an ongoing challenge they were experiencing that entire day) I give 4 stars because again, food, ambiance, and service is great! I just have a lack of respect for the manager to keep the restaurant open and have their employees work in that condition. I'm hoping they don't experience this issue again! read more

Over multiple visits to Grana since it opened, my wife and I can confidently claim it as our favorite Italian restaurant in the city. What Grana may lack in innovation and expertise, it makes up for with consistency, accessibility, and value. While the pastas here may not represent the fanciest in the city, they have remained generously portioned, well prepared, and deeply tasty over our numerous dinners. Comforting flavor profiles are paired with respectably toothsome, homemade noodles that make for hearty bites. Recent selections we have enjoyed include a bouncy cavatelli bolognese and a classic rigatoni with vodka sauce. Similarly, the Neopolitan inspired pizzas may fall just short of stalwarts such as Antico or Varuni, but they possess their own charm in their pillowy soft crusts and memorable flavor combinations. The salty-tangy kick of the bacon and cherry pepper Fibonacci or the rich, cheesy indulgence of the Carbonara are tastes we routinely crave. The open, bright dining room serves as a great location for a casual date night or group dinner. Service here has always been adequate. While the restaurant lacks immunity to inflation and restaurant price creep, Grana remains one of the few restaurants my wife and I can have a drink and a big meal for just shy of $100 after tax and tip. Reservations are fairly easy to come by, and the restaurant offers complimentary valet. Came here with 3 other friends on a Monday evening around 8pm and we got to sit on the roof which had amazing vibes. They also had a special on Wednesdays with half off wine bottles. Our food was good however I don't eat pork so I asked to substitute the sausage in the rigatoni for a beef meatball. The restaurant is in the same area as the sprouts on piedmont, but you have to park on either the front side of sprouts or valet at the restaurant. It was an enjoyable spot! The wait staff was super friendly and they made sure to greet me at the door. They had a host of tables and let me pick which I wanted to sit at, which usually a restaurant will just sit you somewhere. I appreciated that! The establishment looks nice and clean. They have plenty of seating on multiple floors. Just to note, they have a rooftop! I do love a good rooftop! When I was there it was closed because it was kind of cold, but they did say we could go up and take a look around. That rooftop has a good view of piedmont and has a bar there as well. In the dinner in its gonna be great! The pizza was good to me. It had a lot of flavor. It's funny, it is served on a big can lol that has no bearing on the taste, but they don't have fancy trays or anything, they just sit the pizza on a can and call it a day lol. What a great Atlanta spot! Visited Grana with my husband on a beautiful spring night for an early dinner. We had a 5:30 reservation. Parking is valet. Reservation doesn't secure you a spot on the beautiful rooftop but thankfully we were there early enough to be offered rooftop seating. There are a lot of stairs, but totally worth it for the atmosphere and comfortable decor. We were immediately seated. We ordered drinks and the meatball flight appetizer the restaurant is known for. Each meatball was distinct and better than the last highly recommend. For dinner, we both ordered pasta. I ordered the shrimp mafalde while my husband had the rigatoni. We both enjoyed our dishes as they were flavorful with good portion sizes. Definitely will be back for the pizza as every one that came out looked so delicious! Finally for dessert, we built our own cannoli which was absolutely delicious. Tasty! We've been meaning to try this place for a while, and we finally did today! We were pleasantly surprised at the roominess of the restaurant and its modernity. Friendly service at the bar! One of my weekly haunts here in Atlanta. There are three levels of seating, two of them indoors. I quite like the second floor space for dinner dates. The third floor is outdoors with a bar, tables and some couches. If you want to be outdoors I recommend the couches or table. The bar downstairs is a more enjoyable place to be than sitting at the bar upstairs though. Cocktails are around $12 which is a pretty reasonable price. Pours of bourbon are fair, you can get a pour of basic Weller for $9 and Blanton at $18. One minus point is that they have a pretty limited gluten free selection. You can get most of the pastas made without gluten, but they do not have a gluten free crust option. The main course selection is pretty limited, with a flatiron steak and chicken being on offer. Menu focus seems to be on their pastas and pizzas. My pasta recommendation: get the cavatelli. The short rib "paccheri genovese" is also excellent. As far as pizzas go: the smoked ricotta is a unique, delicious creation. I quite enjoyed the margarita pizza with some prosciutto on top too. The smoked mozzarella sticks were a very unique and flavorful appetizer, as well as the meatball flight. If you can't pick which meatballs to go after, you gotta pick the flight. You're going to want to eat dinner family style so you can try a little bit of everything. The diavolo pasta is fresh, spicy, and satisfying. The potato pizza is unexpected and somehow blissful. The eggplant parmigiana is served in a way you haven't seen before. It's layered so it's tender and juicy. Hiii!! I had a good time here. In the middle of my dinner Kendrick Lamar dropped "Not Like Us" so I will definitely never forget the moment lol. I ran into two great hostesses, downstairs at the entrance and then again upstairs at the patio. Very Disappointing experience. (Extremely disrespectful waiter, Nicholas B.) Came here with my family to celebrate birthdays. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Sat down and within a few minutes someone came said "hello" and poured us water and walked away. That same person came back and we eventually realized it was our waiter, Nicolas B., he never introduced himself our entire visit. Other than taking our drink and food order, he didn't come back and check on us. We had to get his attention multiple times by waving him down. His mood was never welcoming, he looked agitated when we asked about food and other options. And we as a family didn't allow it to bother our celebration until we noticed our wait times got longer. Drinks weren't refilled and we wanted to order more and couldn't get his attention. We then were able to get a mangers attention when he noticed us looking around for help. We then expressed to him our disappointment in service and he apologized and offered to compensate us but that wasn't our intention for expressing concern. I then wanted to let the waiter know how we felt because I'm not comfortable about talking about someone's service behind their backs. So I had the intention of addressing the waiter, Nicholas B., in a respectful way so he knows personally our experience. In me letting him know that we felt neglected as a party, while we watched him service other parties. His immediate response was that he has multiple tables and I tried to verbal express my understanding while still expressing our concern. He quickly cut me off by saying "ok" and walked off. Everyone in my party was shocked by the level of unprofessional behavior Nicholas B just displayed. I personally felt extremely DISRESPECTED! This experience is disappointing, because we were enjoying our food. But we have lost interest in returning. Grana is, has been, and will be, the best pasta experience in Atlanta. In 2019 I worked under Chef Pascarella at the White Bull in Decatur and saw the magic he worked on farm-to-table cuisine, so was thrilled to hear he was creating a restaurant centered around his traditional expertise-- Italian. Grana combines Pascarella's culinary acumen with his passion for Italian food. It's a step up from White Bull in its decor and scale, with open air pizza kitchens, lofted ceilings, and portraits of early 20th century Sicily as far as the eye can see. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the pizza since you can get similar artisan pizzas at Sapori de Napoli in Decatur, Fritti in Inman Park, etc, but the pasta really is one-of-a-kind at Grana. My personal favorite is the short rib, but anything that catches your eye will be amazing. Grana has become an Atlanta staple for me and my family, and I can't wait to check out what else Chef Pat will bring to Atlanta in future years. read more

I really want to give this a 4 star review, but some of the finer details of our experience dropped it to a 3.5-. The good: The pasta was excellent. Rigatoni, tagliatelle, gnocchi. Also, the meatball flight was very cool and recommended. The tall gentleman with beard who brought the flight and explained it was very good. The not so good: our main server (short, tired lady) wanted to be anywhere but at work and it showed. This was the main reason for the 3stars. Also, the pizza was not at the level of the other Neapolitan pizzas like G's, or Antico or even Campania. Covered in semolina made it gritty. Finally, cost was a little high for what it was. I recommend Il Gialio in Sandy Springs. Same concept, better execution. Same for Campania Alpharetta. In conclusion, a better server and pizza man make it a 4.2, but that didn't happen.
