I have been waiting to try this place out, and today I finally did! Meh, not impressed. The counter is directly inside of the front door, which makes it hard to form a line that isn't in everyone's way who is coming and going. The service was nothing more then mediocre, and it took almost 15 mins for me to get my 8oz vanilla latte (which actually had no vanilla in it!) Poo! This is a great little bakery with yummy homemade breads and soups. Unfortunately the service is often slow and I don't recommend going unless you have time to wait. I also don't recommend you go near the end of the day, or order the soup when it's almost out. When I ordered at the end of the day, I received a dry, crumbling, falling apart sandwich; when I complained, they punched a bread card for me rather than giving a refund. I also wish they would switch up their pastries more often - I'm a little tired of the same selections. read more

I was pleased to have an additional bakery/coffee/sandwich option in the neighborhood. Been to this location twice so far and both times the experience was fine. Not exceptional but ok. Had the tomato, onion and avocado sandwich on my first visit and took home some olive bread & two treats for later. My sandwich was amazing (no skimping on the fillings!) and the olive bread was delish as usual. My husband and I found the carrot cake to be fair to middling and the bread pudding was way too dry for our tastes. On the return visit this past weekend the pastries fared far better (I'm a huge fan of the jammer - husband LOVED the cinnamon roll.) There was some sort of mishap with the espresso machine which meant I didn't get my mocha until we were ready to leave but the barista insisted on refunding my money even though I did get my drink eventually. Don't think it will be our main bakery of choice but a decent one to throw in the mix. read more

December 5th 1pm. Well, I can say that we will never be going back to this overpriced excuse for a "bakery/coffee shop". My girlfriend and I were excited to try out this place since we had read how good the sandwiches and coffee are. We found a place to park behind the building and walk in. Not very busy with half the tables open and one customer ordering in front of us. We picked out a couple sandwiches, pastries and coffee off the menu that we wanted and waited to place our order. This girl with glasses behind the counts looks at us and says "Hi There". We tell her what sandwiches we would like. Without missing a beat she says, "All we have are these pre-made sandwiches left from out lunch hour rush". We look at them in the case, they were two small half sandwiches of some mysterious variety, and ask her if they can make any other sandwiches. She then says, "Sorry, that's all we have". That's it! She then just stares at us! She never offers us some other ideas of things to get or try! Just stands there like she couldn't care less about us. I'm a very easy going person but this was crazy. We turn around and walk out. On our way out she says in the most insincere way possible ,"Sorry". Sorry Grand Central Bakery, but if your business model is to treat customers this way, then I do hope you fail. We will continue to frequent the huge amount of other awesome places that Burien has to offer. read more

Overall a good experience, seemed like they were out of a lot of items. The staff is very friendly, so that compensated for the lack of bakery items. I got a sausage & egg sandwich on sourdough toast because they were out of biscuits. The sandwich was amazing I also put some of their berry jelly on it, which was awesome! I also ordered a hot chocolate, they were out of whip cream, so the lady made some fresh, but because the whip cream wasn't room temp, it made my hot chocolate cold fast. we enjoyed our visit, being that it was Sunday it was super busy & loud! read more

Overpriced, tiny portions, waaay too long of a wait. I paid $9 for the sausage/egg biscuit with cheese, waited 20 minutes for it to come out, and it was gross. They only get 2 stars because the Marion berry jelly was delicious (which is what I needed to get past the cardboard biscuit), and the seating is spread out unlike other coffee shops/bakeries. I'm actually a bit surprised to see the average reviews. I've never been here for lunch/dinner - only for the bakery and breakfast - but I've always has a great experience. They're not fast when it comes to prepping a breakfast sandwich, but that's because they are cracking eggs and cooking the bacon rather than popping a frozen sandwich in the micro (sorry Starbucks). They're also not particularly inexpensive...but I think for what they are and who they claim to be, they're great. I always get the egg and cheese biscuit sandwich (it's too good to branch out). The service is always friendly, although as stated earlier, they're not speedy. It's not my favorite bakery in the area, but the pastry case items are good and the breads are fantastic. I will absolutely keep coming back! read more

A nice addition to Burien. Found this by acciddent. The coffee was out of this world good. Large open seating with grand tables. Huge windows. I do not suggest ordering anything that needs to be prepared, it looks and tastes fine, it just took a reeeeeealllly long time to get, over 15 minutes and my coffee was finished. Just order out of the case. Will drive out of the way to come here again. New construction building. Clean. Nice staff and music. read more

Excellent breads and other baked goods being served by folks who appear totally untrained. Since the day they opened, the staff has stumbled over the basics of customer service...time & time again. Not sure if the problem lies with this store manager or is system wide, but can only report our experiences. We keep trying to give them our business and they keep pushing us out the door: Our frustrations include but are not limited to - Multi-sandwich orders placed 24-hours in advance not ready, bread dough order "lost" until another staffer is queried, billing errors at check out, long waits at checkout because new staffer doesn't know how to operate the register, customers being helped out of order. Thank goodness a new bakery has opened up down the street. read more

Since I live in Burien, I am delighted to have this place available. I particularly love their baked goods and PIES (OMG The Marionberry!). I get the "take and bake" and they're always a hit at family dinners. Now, I happen to like the sandwiches, but agree on a couple things several people have brought up: 1. The service is hit or miss. Some of the staff seem interested in assisting and even smile once in a while. Others are simply not suited for this type of work. Period. 2. It isn't cheap. But I think the quality is better than less expensive options, so I take that into consideration. This place gets busy. Plan on waiting if you go during prime times. We ordered desserts that were stale or have been sitting out all day which Is fine I guess but at least offer to heat them up or something! We ordered a sticky bun that was so hard a fork couldn't even be stabbed through it- completely inedible! They shouldn't call themselves a bakery with their limited amount of dessert options that are stale. The actual food looked really good though. Just don't go there if you want dessert. read more

I stopped in here on a busy Sunday morning after church. It was a drizzly morning so it was pretty busy inside and the line was wrapped beyond the door. The line went fairly quickly and when it was my turn to order the cashier called me over past the registers and I couldn't see the pastry case anymore - I was sort of undecided what to have but I settled on the blueberry muffin and an americano. I did feel a bit rushed and although he asked if anything else I totally forgot I had wanted a petite baguette for my dinner. By the time my coffee came up I realized and turned around in despair that the line was even longer, not to mention I did not have any cash with me, so really was it worth it to stand back in line for a $1.95 baguette? The barista could see my look and just asked what was wrong and I said well I forgot to get something and was debating to stand back in line... he asked what it was and just grabbed it for me - I said but I don't have any cash just a card - "no problem, please have it on us". OMG I was thrilled by this small gesture but after something like this - I will definitely be back and more often. thanks again Sunday barista guy! read more

This place is absolutely the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. I'm not exaggerating. I don't work for them or have any interest in them. But I will tell you this the veggie grinder sandwich is exceptional. I've never eaten any sandwich with as much flavor and as healthy as that sandwich is. My wife had some sort of a kale soup and she love that. I find it hard to want to eat anything else whenever I've gone there so I can't really judge the rest of the sandwiches yet. I plan on eating there anytime I'm anywhere near Burien. Highly recommend for a good sandwich. read more
