Update: they did something about the files that is they covered some of the pastries with lids but not really solved the problem of having gnats all over the counter, just get some Terro fruit fly traps! There are still a lot of flies and the bread in the back is not covered. It's really too bad because the food itself is very tasty at Grandaisy. read more

I cannot begin to tell you about how bad my experience with the employees at this establishment was. I do not know where they have been referred from? perhaps they are parolees, or from a group home of mentally impaired persons but comparing these so called workers to them would be impuning those other fine people. I suggest to mgt to spend a little extra to get qualified people to handle the cash register and interact with the public, qualifications should include persons that look like they have taken a bath, do not role their eyes and show a modicum of energy and enjoyment when doing their work would be a good start. I will never be visiting this store again and will prefer to visit other shops in the neighborhood such as clementine or even the deli across the street. read more

The worst cup of coffee in the city: it could not have been worse if it had been made with dishwater. Maybe it was. The almond croissant was mushy, not crisp, and had almost no almond flavor. But what it did have was a hair baked into it. Bonus! read more

This is hands down my favorite bakery in NYC. Not only is their bread amazing, but the customer service is great - they go above and beyond to make sure you feel like you're getting value. For example, one time they gave me a free loaf of bread (yay!); another time I ordered one little roll and they gave me two (so nice). I also come here very often to get coffee, and they remember their frequent customers and treat them well. I almost didn't write this review because don't want this place to get too well known (has a bit of a "hole in the wall" vibe), but love them too much. read more

Small place, a few seats, the staff is friendly enough. I just stopped by to get a cup of hot chocolate. Unfortunately it was the blandest tasting chocolate ever. I could have made it better with the Swiss Miss powdered envelopes you get at the market. Excellent. Love this place, and try to stop in when I am nearby. Not only is the bread, coffee, sandwiches and baked goods terrific, their customer service is top notch. Was finally able to stop in here after passing by it all my life. Tried the Chai Latte which was a disappointment. Wasn't able to try any of the baked goods but it sure smelled delicious. Sat down for a bit and the bar along the window was filled with crumbs and of course there's no wi-fi. Pretty darn good. I've tried their croissants and egg sandwiches, both of which were in no way disappointing. Everything else looks delicious, but I consciously force myself to move away from ordering such sugary treats. Coffee is also a good option, and tea... it comes in bags. My colleague discovered this place and told me about it. I tried their vegetarian sandwich which has garlic paste ( very light, not gonna make your mouth stinky!) Ever since then I go there to get lunch whenever I feel like having something light. If your work or live at TriBeCa, this would be a good place to get something light and quick. read more

Stopped by today for my usual small cap and lumaca. However it seems like things are changing at my go to bakery. There seems to be a new manager who is so rude that I was baffled. I didn't have time to grab her name but beware she can be snotty and she talks to the employees as if they are TRASH!!! I used to buy my bread at Grandaisy on West 72nd St, but then one day the bread slicer disappeared, -we figured it was broken so waited for it to be repaired, but it never showed up. The very nice staff apologetically said that the guy in charge deemed it "not cost effective" to have a slicer there --- wtf? for a bakery that specializes in bread? As another customer who was upset about this news said, "that's the most stupid thing I ever heard." I agree. The staff said they reported the ongoing complaints, but to no avail. Myself and my friends no longer buy there. Get the damned slicer back, and you'll have us back. It's not your excellent baked goods, nor your friendly staff. It's YOU head guy -- you know who you are. How about fixing this silly problem. Btw, this is the only yelp review I have ever posted. Not my thing, but making an exception for this. read more
