I finally gave this place a shot after passing it on my way to work for the past year. I cannot believe i spent $10 on a piece of cake and coffee for breakfast. I got the hazelnut cake with chocolate chips. It tasted good, but I think it was just so moist because of all grease! My bag was greasy and my fingers were greasy! A fan of the UWS location, I stopped in to this SoHo one and went with the SE-endorsed cheese-free funghi slice (solid but not worth a re-order). A sign in the case informed me that since it was Pi Day, the $3.25 item was ONLY $3.14...they even acted like they did me a huge favor by knocking the price down a whopping 11 cents. The staff were either hopped up on caffeine or just of that breed of human that is eerily chipper 24-7, as they cheerfully served it up in a bag to go. read more

For seven weeks, I passed by this bakery to and from work with no intention of going in. I thought it was another one of those sandwich shops in which you can get a descent but not particularly outstanding meal - mundane around New York. It was not until one lucky Sunday off work in which a friend dragged me in, while glorifying over its famed pizza. Despite already being full, we decided to split a slice - as a teaser for next time. Who knew cauliflower could go so well on pizza? With a crispy, oil based thin crust. the savory, creamy and herbal tastes were in perfect sync. I fell in love. From then on, at least twice a week, I stopped here for a "lunch for breakfast", as I savored the beginning of my day with the fat and spices simply melting in my mouth. read more

Grandaisy Bakery is such a wonderful Tribeca institution and I really couldn't imagine the neighborhood without it. The freshly baked breads are amazing, I love the sourdough pugliese and the Pullman loaf. Their flatbread slices are so good and taste exactly like the ones I had when I was living in Italy. This place used to be terrific.Trying to make myself heard above deafening music I ordered the last piece of pumpkin flatbread, the usual choices were not available, the shelf was empty and my server failed to tell me more would be ready in a few minutes minutes. been buying all my bread from this bakery no complaints. Since the restaurant where i work buys a lot from this bakery we get discounts on the bread we buy. Their coffee's are awesome. the staffs are super nice and friendly. the bakery might look small but the back of the bakery is huge with workers prepping for all different bread for sale and for different restaurant orders. recommend: i recommend try the panino alla olive, panino noci ed uve, stirato integrale (which is a wheat bread), sette grani (7 grain big roll) and pizza Bianca (which is a flat bread). A wide ranging selection of pastries and sandwiches and eveyrthing else, including great cookies, the ones i m referring to are known to me as Dead Man's bones. The prices are moderate and my sister loves the Lamaca which are sort of like a rugelah on steroids. The flat bread pizzas are also very tasty and I thought the bread was also delcious. Conveniently located -- if you happen to be there -- in that netherworld between Soho and Tribeca is the Grandaisy Café. Are you a tourist who is trekking around downtown? Exhausted and you need a cup of joe? Or (if you are me:) a pastry? This is a nice, calm and friendly spot to sit for a little break. It is not a place for an intimate tete a tete, however. There is communal seating along a table that looks out onto the street and there are two other tables, one to sit at; one to stand. Either way, you may be sharing. But it's a nice resting place -- with very good coffee and other offerings -- when you are around and about that area. read more

Get the breakfast sandwich with egg and asparagus! They always run out of it which is frustrating, I wish they made more of it. 6/11/2013 Gross. I was just at the Tribeca location. One girl was wiping her face right over the sandwiches. Another girl was handling the muffins with her bare hands. And it wouldn't hurt if they wore hair nets or pulled their hair back into a bun so that it wasn't hanging above the food as they lean over it to try to hear you from behind the tall plexi in front of the food. The plexi is meant to keep customers germs off the food, but what about the employees. Ew. I don't need to get sick over a small expensive sandwich. Straighten out your act Grandaisy. read more

Service was mediocre--I stood there for maybe 5 minutes (I was the only customer in the bakery) with 3 people behind the counter before one of them made eye contact with me (they were all just looking away). I ordered 2 pieces of pizza which were almost inedibly salty and COLD! I just assumed that it was hot when I took it--who wants to eat cold pizza for $7? My coworkers say it's good, but given this experience, I doubt I'll go back. read more

Grandaisy is a dilemma. The products are outright wonderful - the same amazing pizzas that made Sullivan st. Bakery famous (it was a husband and wife team, they split, he now owns the Sullivan St. name, she the original location as well as this Tribeca outpost, both share the recipes) wonderful if hideously expensive little sandwiches, and truly excellent pastries and breads. Their baked goods aren't cheap, but you get quality for the price. The only reason they get 3 stars instead of 5 is the store staff. They consistently dip into the labor pool of attractive, clueless hipsters more commonly seen in coffee joints. Nice to look at, horrible for customer service. I once saw one pry open a sandwich with her bare hands to ascertain the kind of cheese it had, even though it was clearly labeled. If there are more than 3 people on line you might as well turn around, they'll never get to you. They can be amusing if you want to chat about the Matt and Kim show, or discuss artsy events, but not good if you just want to pick up some food and get to work. I would go there every day if they had even slightly professional service - I work half a block away. As it is, I go there once or twice a month, and half of those times i give up in exasperation and leave empty handed. read more

Very disappointing customer service. Found out about this bakery thru Groupon. Unfortunately my Groupons expired (2 of them, each for $14 worth of baked goods for $7). The cashiers didn't know what to do with the expired vouchers. Then the owner came & clarified it. "There's no way for us to honor an expired voucher, but go back to Groupon - they definitely will." Wrong! And totally against Groupon's policy. Not a huge amount of money, but honoring their end of the bargain would've shown good will & a willingness to please the customer. Now this is one customer they'll never have no worry about. How about NO stars? read more

Went several times during our stay in NYC. Service was great the first day we went, but subsequently not as good the next several times but still acceptable. Each time there were different people working. The pastries themselves were yummy (croissant, chocolate muffin, raspberry financier... Etc). Also tried their thin crust pizzas. I did not know this was a chain until I went to post my review on yelp. Anyway, before I stopped at this location last Friday I had never heard of this place. I stopped in looking for a pastry and I saw the Bread Pudding ($4). I can't remember the last time I had really good bread pudding, but they make a really awesome version of it. My only complaints seems about this place are the people that work here (I am referring to both the morning and late afternoon shifts). They are nice, but ditzy. They don't pay attention to who really was on first on the line, sometimes get your drink or pastry order wrong, and are sometimes busy talking with each other they forget about their customers. read more

The coffee was average, but we ended up lounging around for almost 2 hours spread out on the 4 stools they provided as seating. The place is pretty small, located in a bustling part of the Upper West Side, and with a tired-looking barista who didn't quite seem to want to be there. Sesamo, pugliese, sourdough, pizza bianca are all fantastic. The coffee and pastries are just ok; for me it's all about the bread. I love the Sullivan St location. And the product here is of course no different. The HUGE difference is the service. I was there while the cashier chatted up female after female. It's ok if you are chatting AND working but he was just chatting and gesturing while a line formed. In general, the pastries are overpriced and the taste is mediocre. - Lumaca ($1.50): A mix between a sticky bun with raisins and a croissant. It's pretty tiny, but of all the pastries, it gives you the most bang for your buck. - Grandaisy cake ($4): One slice of orange flavored pound cake for $4? You can get an entire loaf of something of similar quality from the grocery store. - Lemon and coconut tart ($4): Just your average lemon tart. - Mini hazelnut loaf with chocolate chips ($4): This loaf was super tiny and the hazelnut flavor was too faint. read more

psyched that i finally made it out here. i've been a fan of the sullivan street outpost, but always found it a bit too crap. heeeeelllllo w. bwy location. much more room when you walk in and it's airier to me. i'm still in love with their chocolate flourless cake. you should be too. and everyone should try the pizza blanca at least once in their life. if you are a san franciscan, the thin crust may come close to arizmendi's. read more
