This restaurant's breakfast was SO good. I had the Spanish omelet and I was in heaven. I loved all the owl decor. The waitress was so busy doing every job in the place all by herself...aside from being the cook. She was awesome at what she did. Comfortably friendly service ... that is, it's not overdone. The food tastes homemade and is reasonably priced. Grandma's Kitchen is a local's hang-out. Excellent food. I had the breakfast burrito with tons of fresh avocados and my husband had the grandma's scramble with lovely red potatoes. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Grandma's kitchen is a nice little cozy local restaurant. Food and service here are great. There servings are generous and they are not stingy with the refills. I had pancakes and the are HUGE. The looks of the place ill make you want to find somewhere else to go but don't. If you're in the Monterey area give this place a try. It was alright. Nothing to get excited over. Denny's up the street is comparable if not better. The biscuits were good. Home fries pretty greasy and not that great. Eggs were eggs. My sister's eggs benedict were okay. Like I said, nothing to get excited over or go out of your way for. Don't think I'll be back and will def. look for a better place next trip down there. A solid choice to have breakfast, that is a little bit off the beaten track. It's not spectacular, but it's tasty and filling. On the weekends, it can be busy, and the service can be just a little slow, so if you go on a weekend; be prepared to spend some time examining the decor (mostly a collection of owls). If you're looking for a blast from the past, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The location probably hasn't seen updates since the late 70's, but that's also why I like it. The food and portions are just what you'd expect for an old diner like this one. Comfort food served the way it was meant to be. We've driven by this place a hundred times but have always gone to the Black Bear. Today the bear was extra crowded and we were hungry so we said why not give it a try. If we'd checked yelp we probably would have gone here sooner. Service was good, friendly and fast. I ordered a chili burger expecting to get canned chili over an over cooked 1/8lb patty. Nope. The chili was scratch made and pretty good, the patty was as big as the Bears 1/2 pound burger. The real surprise was the salad with bleu cheese dressing. It was one of the best I've ever had. The owner, I think it was the owner, told me that they make all their own dressings, and the chili of course. My wife ordered fried chicken with fries. The fries were extremely crisp on the outside and soft & yummy on the inside. So was the chicken. Can't wait to try the SOS! Haven't had anything like it in years. read more

I like the food here, but do not come here at night! There is a waitress with red hair who is rude. She acts as if she's alone even though my girlfriend and I were the only customers. She was on her phone the entire time playing videos and music, with volume as loud as her phone would allow. She was either watching a fight video, or a video of a group of people at a party. Anyways she acted like we werent really there. I can tell she doesn't take her job seriously and it's sad because I love Grandma's! She just really makes me not want to eat there. read more

This place is so homey and comfortable. The staff is amazing and the food is extremely good. I'm from San Francisco and this place is just great. FYI just sit anywhere right away to avoid being hollered at to "sit anywhere"! For big folks the booths suck, but plenty of table seating. Coffee was classic diner Java. The OJ leaves a little to be desired, it was very watery. Staff seem a bit abrupt at first, but warm up. Ordered a breakfast whiteboard special: Chili Cheese Omlette; the chili must be homemade, as I encountered half a bay leaf. Red baby potatoes with bell peppers were fresh as well. This place is awesome! They handmake their burger patties, fries are nice and crispy and they're pancakes are fluffy and to die for. I am also a huge fan of their mashed potatoes and "S.O.S.". The environment is very welcoming and the waitresses are fun. They can be a little dry but they contribute to the home like feel of the restaurant... i mean they have signs that read "beware of attack waitress." Food, people and feel are all awesome. My date and I went here for lunch one morning. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a stickler when it comes to meats. I ordered the steak and eggs and asked for the steak medium rare erring to the side of rare and before doing so had specifically asked if the cook was good at distinguishing between the cooked states of the meat, which I was assured he was very good at doing. The steak was very thin, so immediately I knew there was no way he could've gotten it to MR, it was very very well done. The lady that works the front on Sunday's is awesome! She hooked me and my girl up with ranch and Italian dressing, because Safeway forgot to give us some with our salad. She told us it's made in house and super good, and she was right! Their ranch dressing is legit! Thanks for being kind and giving it to us on the house.
