Lived Kingman for almost 5 years. Drove by this place 100's of times. Always telling myself I need to hit this place up one day, especially after I pulled up their reviews. Well it finally happened and holy mother of breakfast heaven! It's an old school place. Plastic chairs, cash only, but good freakin night! The food is amazing! I got the chicken fried steak breakfast. My dad got the giant ham steak breakfast. Neither of us were disappointed. The only disappointment I have is I didn't come here sooner. Nice little greasy spoon we found via Google Maps. Huge portions of good home style cooking. Friendly service too. If you are Covid-skittish be aware there isn't much distancing in place and the staff don't wear masks all the time. We are very careful so I didn't feel unsafe. read more

If your ever passing thru or staying a while in Kingman Arizona eating at Grandpa's Restaurant is a must!!! Great food and staff!!

First, the falls short. I have only had breakfast here and I found that their pancakes were VERY small. I can get an order of pancakes for the same price at other local eateries and one pancake will nearly fill the plate. Also, while I am sure many people love the size of their biscuits, I find them to be WAY too big. A half order of biscuits and gravy is one biscuit split in half and covered with gravy. Their half biscuit is 2 inches thick. We could not finish it. I also tried their chorizo con huevos (chorizo and eggs). There was too much chorizo. This left me with a LOT of grease on my plate. If they reduce the amount of chorizo by half the dish will be excellent and they will increase their profit margin. The dining room is very loud. This is because of the block walls. They could use some sound absorbing material on the walls to cut the echo. Now the pluses. All of the food we ate had really good flavor and was delivered in a timely fashion by friendly and helpful wait staff. All of the food arrived at our table at the proper temperature for the dish. Overall I like this little diner so far. I will write another review once I have tried their lunch menu. read more

On our way back from Arizona to Las Vegas decided to stop and have some breakfast. What a great find. Small, family atmosphere felt like being at home in your own kitchen. The food was delicious. I had the pancakes and was so excited to see that they were not the size of a dinner plates. The staff was very friendly and our waitress Elaina had a beautiful smile and great personality. We walked in and were told we could sit anywhere. After sitting down we got menus and water. They then sat two more tables and got them menus and drinks. We love greasy spoon diners. From a food standpoint, this one didn't disappoint. We split the chicken fried steak breakfast, and it was wonderful! However, the service left a lot to be desired. The waitress was friendly when she finally did appear. (She was visiting some customers who she obviously knew.) After taking our order, she only came back as we were leaving, when we were through with our meal and didn't need anything else. Someone else delivered our food, and when we asked for silverware, he came back with one set (there were two of us!) We had to grab a set from another table. When our coffee cups were empty, we asked the girl bussing the table if we could get a refill. She said yes, and then wandered around for a while, holding her cleaning rag and the setup for the table she was working on. She finally came back to finish setting up the table she had started a few minutes earlier, and I asked again about coffee. She finished setting up the table and then eventually brought coffee. It's a small place - not many tables - so we were surprised at the poor customer service. Earlier posts mentioned that the staff cater to locals and ignore tourists. I guess that's what they need to do to survive. Too bad - we probably won't stop in again, even though the food is tasty! read more

I would have given Grandpa's two stars except the food was delicious. The two stars was because it was just filthy. There was some kind of black gunk underneath the counter where we sat. Not sure when the last time was this area was cleaned. Also the bathrooms either need new sinks and toilets or they were just dirty. The whole place needs a good cleaning. Just simply delicious! HUGE portions...strongly advise splitting. The service was excellent and waitresses were very attentive with good advice about food. Doesn't take credit cards, took over 40 minutes to get our food, food was really bland and the country fried steak had a texture I've never experienced before. Didn't eat the whole thing. I really appreciate a cook who knows how to make eggs. So often I go out for breakfast and whoever is in the kitchen has no respect for eggs, overcooking them, or using too high heat. The cook here at Grandpa's Kitchen understands food and uses a gentle touch. The eggs were delicious, as were the hash browns. Doug had the pancakes and I tried a few bites, as there was just too much on the plate for him to finish, and they were wonderfully light and tasty. Service is friendly and professional. After a bad experience during our vacation with a breakfast chain in Flagstaff, we bypassed that city altogether on the way back to California and ended up stopping in Kingman, AZ for a local breakfast place. Grandpa's Kitchen is the way breakfast should be all the time! Not only large portions, but TASTY FOOD as well. Don't know how they make any money as the prices are so low... LOVED this place. The food was fantastic and the service was wonderful and quick. They did everything they could to make us happy. We were recently on a road trip driving along the first part of Route 66. This was a wonderful spot to have breakfast. The only weird thing is it was cash only. Great little "mom and pop" place! The staff was so happy and made you feel as though you really were in "Grandpa's" kitchen! They knew many of the customers by name but treated the "new comers" as though they were still part of their family. The food was real home cooked comfort food. My husband and I got burgers, the meat tasted fresh (not frozen) and like they had just pulled it off a BBQ! My son (1 1/2 years) got Micky Mouse pancakes (which were free!) and he cleared off his whole plate! We will defiantly be going here again! read more
