I have given Granite Rock a few tries and would say that it's just okay. It's not about the hole in the wall, run down diner feel, sometimes those are the best places to find good morning grub. It's about the food - nothing has been very impressive, besides the fact that the portions could feed a family of 4. On my most recent visit it was beyond crowded and when we put our names in the hostess forgot to write our names on the list so we had to wait quite a while to be seated . After ordering, the waitress came back to let me know that they were out of my order. After picking two more options and being told that they were also out of those, I told the waitress to tell me what they did have and just went with that...kind of weird but I guess it was a busy morning. When I got my huevos rancheros they not only didn't look very appetizing but they were bland, which is weird considering they were covered in sour cream, guacamole and salsa. My friend said that his steak sando and bloody mary were pretty good so if I decide to return again, maybe I'll give those a try. read more

We were very impressed with our breakfast here today. Hugh portions, which include great potatoes. Denver omelet with pepper jack really hit the spot for me. Even with a large and filled dining room on this Sunday morning, the food came fast and hot, and the wait staff flew like lightening. I mean the excellent staff was zipping back and forth at impressive, nonstop pace. I couldn't help notice the partons are your typical Rocklin country bumpkins. Wanted to try out a new local breakfast place, and with a solid 4 stars, I figure this was going to be a really safe bet. Wrong. Parking: Poor. Don't park any car you care about in their side lot, it is extremely cramped and not very easy to get in or out. Park down the road. Service: Good. Topped off our coffee regularly and got the order right. Probably the best part of this restaurant. Food: Overcooked my rib-eye, and the girlfriend barely touched her meal. Potatoes were the best part by far. Don't bother with any drinks other than coffee. Price: That ended up being a bit of a shocker. Probably about 20% more than it should have been. Overall: It's not often I feel mislead by Yelpers, but this time I really did. If you rated this place 4 stars or above, you really need to get out more. read more

Found this place on Yelp, and it lived up to what it said. I had a bloody Mary that had great taste and perfect amount of spice. The spicy salted rim was yummy as well. The warm bacon on top was very good. I had the eggs Benedict with crispy potatoes and everything tasted good. Had flavor and potatoes were cooked like I had asked. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. If you get offended being called names like sweetheart and hun, this is not the place for you. Saw a BLT sandwich on my way out that looked killer. We were seated immediately on a busy Saturday morning. The server came quickly and spent a couple of minutes going over the specials and telling us about some of the favorites. I ended up going with Rich's Country Scramble with hash browns dark (which coincidentally is how they were recommended) and a biscuit. Roger got the corned beef hash with poached eggs and the country potatoes. The hash browns were not seasoned and his corned beef was a little bland but everything else was amazing! The biscuit was huge and so delicious! The preserves were fantastic as well. I would definitely get the scramble again but with the country potatoes and he would not do the corned beef hash again. Its a little pricey (but what breakfast place isnt) but the amount of food you get is worth it. They have a huge menu. Plus this place actually has a wall of hot sauce. And I am huge into that lol. What a nice surprise. We came in for breakfast and the place was packed with customers, and we almost left but I'm sure glad we didn't. Service was almost immediate despite the restaurant being very busy. And as other Reviewers have also noted, our coffee cups were never once empty. The coffee is freshly brewed, not over heated or left in the pot so long it tastes bitter. My husband ordered the Mr. Green Jean's Eggs Benedict...which he said was excellent. He loved the Canadian bacon and home fries which were seasoned perfectly (which also means not over salted!). I ordered the Donna's hamburger on a homemade bun. I also got extra tomato slices on the side. Sooooo good. All in all a good experience. Highly recommend you give this place a try. read more

I've been here twice now, both times on Sunday mornings, the last time was Father's Day a few days ago. It was certainly very busy as we expected-- we were told it was a 20 min wait and ended up waiting an hour, which is always lame and got us into quite a hangry state by the time we were sat. Our server was swamped, but the reviewer who mentioned the coffee lady/busser is totally right: she was HUSTLIN'. She stopped by our table with coffee probably 3 times before our server even greeted us! And she kept it up the whole time we were there. 2 for you Glen Coco-Coffee Lady! I was nervous after the long wait, since I had raved about this place to my family and I really wanted them to like it! Luckily, the food was just as amazing as the first time we visited on a slower Sunday. First of all: THE BISCUITS AND JELLY. I die for these biscuits, you guys, and the homemade jelly! These are the biscuits dreams are made of. Everything else we ordered, including eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros, and the tri-tip omelette, was met with raves from everyone. Good menu selection, portions are big, food is pretty good. The owner can be seen working the tables. THIS PLACE ROCKS!!! We have been here 3 times I believe. The first time, after the food we decided that this was our new breakfast place (we do breakfast out once every couple of months). After the second time, I declared that this place had the greatest pancakes on earth. Not to mention my Tri-Tip Omelet was fantastic. The third time, I received The Biscuit. I call it this, because this is the biscuit that all other biscuits will henceforth be judged upon. This was like a slice of biscuit cake. It was atleast 3 inches, by 3 inches, by 3 inches. It crumbled PERFECTLY, and was the greatest "side" to a fantastic omelet. The staff is fantastic. I'm pretty sure I got 12 water refills, which is HUGE for me. If I ever hit the lotto big, I'm giving my waitress and the water lady a HUGE tip here. Based on the other reviews, I really wanted to like this place. Because there was so much inconsistency in my experience, I'll explain each rating. 3 stars for the restaurant itself. Parking is ok and the restaurant is fairly easy to find. The decor is country Americana circa 1985. There are quite a few tables - this is a large restaurant. The booths are large and comfy and the chairs are wide and sturdy. This information may come in handy if you're on the heavier side. The tables felt sticky though. 5 stars for service. The servers were fantastic. I literally don't think I've ever had friendlier service anywhere. They were attentive, accommodating, made food suggestions, brought the food out within a few minutes and checked in at least twice to see how the food was and to refill my tea. Wonderful experience! 2 1/2 stars for food. My husband got the Philly cheese sandwich. To me, it looked greasy. He said that it was greasy, but that it had a lot of flavor. It was loaded with meat - no stinginess here. His orange juice didn't taste fresh squeezed, but rather like Minute Maid, or a concentrate. I got the chicken fried steak. The steak had so much thick gravy in it that I lost the taste of anything else plus it made the crust on the steak soggy. The gravy would be better in moderation. The mashed potatoes tasted like box potatoes. Specifically, the brown "Idaho" box at Safeway. Growing up, that's what my Mom made and I hated it. LOL both plates were full though. Come with an appetite and you won't be let down. My hubby said his food wasn't the best, but he would eat it again. This place is the best breakfast spot hands down!!! The staff is attentive and friendly. Our family comes here often and try new things often. The breakfast quesadilla is really good. So much food you will have to bring home leftovers. My husband loved the breakfast sandwich. I like their French toast and sometimes even order a blt for breakfast. Their home fries are super good. My husband asked me to bring back a french dip from Grand Sierra Resort from Reno. Being the loving wife that I am, I waited the morning upon departure to order one so it would be semi-fresh. Unbeknownst to me, GSR doesn't serve french dip before 11 am and charge an extra $4 to order to go (insert eyes rolling). As I drove back home, empty handed, I was in a panic mode because I was coming back emptyhanded. I asked my cousin to Yelp "best french dip" sandwiches. She searched and called various restaurants to ask what was in their french dips. So many places had fancied theirs up. My husband loves plain DELICIOUS food. Meaning, all the components of the food are spot on with minimal ingredients but maximum seasoning. My cousin stumbled upon Granite Rock Grill on Yelp. She called and asked what was in the french dip. They told her it was basic, meat and bread and au jus. We phoned an order to go, but my cousin said the menu looked very promising and we should stop there for brunch. I ordered the french dip (really, I volunteered to eat the french dip and order another one to go.. again, freshness is key), my cousin ordered the spinach, bacon, avocado eggs benedict, my son ordered the philly cheesesteak, my daughter the french toast, my niece wanted an avocado toast (it wasn't on the menu, but they made it happen), and my nephew ordered the kids Mickey pancakes. I bit into the crunchy with give roll and was met with many thinly sliced meat dipped in au jus. My eyes opened wide and said... well, a few choice words. It was flipping fabulous!! My son's philly cheesesteak had the precise ratio of meat, onions, peppers, cheese, and umami. Might I add that if you dip the PCS in the au jus sauce, there becomes this euphoric wave over one's body. My cousin's eggs benedict made her tear up and gave me goosebumps. I had egg and hollandaise all over my face but could not physically wipe my mouth because I was in the state of euphoria. I looked like an infant learning to eat for the first time and had food all over my smiling face. My daughter's french toast was delightfully cooked with love that when SHE took a bite, she realized she did not need any syrup. I agreed. I am particular about my french toast; it cannot be soggy and it must have the delicious flavors of vanilla and cinnamon in little flavor pods throughout the delicately crisped bread. I don't know what the avocado toast tasted like because that was devoured. My nephew, who is an INCREDIBLY picky eater, at ALLLLLLL of his pancake and sausages. Now, let's talk about customer service. How many pluses can you put after the letter A for it to still hold the integrity of a no bs type of review. Our waitress (unfortunately, I did not get her name) was attentive and pleasant. She had a few tables including ours yet, she was able to check on all of us in a timely manner. It was like she was on an alarm. She came over in the correct amount of time. She did not pester, hang around, she was not missing in action, and she DID not try to give us our check as we were in the state of euphoria. This restaurant is by far 100% all around the board. After my husband received his food, he agreed, we would drive the hour to get here to try out more food. The negative was, we could not fit anymore food in our tummies. Trust me, I tried. read more

We went here for Fathers Day and it was busy. It definitely looks like everyone knows this place is good. I agree to a point. Certain dishes help me decide if it deserves a higher rank or not. The Food: My wife had huevos rancheros and she said it was better than Peg's, so that proves it is a step up in flavor. My mother-in-law had the cinnamon roll and that was the best tasting cinnamon roll I've ever had in my life. Their biscuits are big and fluffy and good. I had eggs and bacon and sausage and it was all just OK, but its hard to dress up the basics without turning into an omelet or something different. I did try the sausage gravy and it was bland and floury tasting. Even salt and pepper couldnt save it so that was a big disappointment and what would rank it down if the other stuff wasn't so good. The next time I go I'll judge their Eggs Benedict and adjust this score accordingly. Service was busy and our waitress could barely keep up. She was very nice when she attended us but didnt check up on us much. However, there was another helper (waitress/bus boy?) She was in charge of drinks and bussing the plates and pretty much anything else. She was fantastic and on top of it. We actually had to get her to find our waitress to get the check and a to go box. I wish she was our waitress. Overall, pretty good. I see why its a local favorite. For years my family has come here. Mainly my dad who would go at least once a week if not more. He would order the same thing for breakfast. 2 eggs. Over medium. Hash browns. Toast. And bacon. After a few years the restaurant named the item after him. "The Mark's" All the workers over the years have treated us all so well. We have NEVER had a bad experience and we have been there hundreds of times. Sadly my dad passed away two months ago from stage four melanoma. Granite rock was his favorite place, and he was treated so well there we decided to choose them to cater for his celebration of life. We didn't know what to expect. But it far exceeded anything we thought it would be. Everyone was so happy with the food. Going back for seconds and even thirds. The catering staff was very kind. They arrived promptly on time and set up so fast. Thank you to them for treating my dad so nicely, and always leaving pickle off his plate and lemon out of his tea. YUM-YUM-YUM!!! Stumbled onto this place by accident, and by the crowd waiting outside, decided to check it out. A huge board of specials with unusual fare. A HUGE menu, I couldn't read the whole thing before it was time to order. I ordered an omelet, it was made with house made pepper jack cheese! Never had that before and it was really good! The place is really big and old school kinda a elks/moose lodge feel. Even with the big crowd outside the wait was fast and so was the service..can't wait to go back to try more stuff from the menu! This is my favorite place to go in town for breakfast/brunch. I have visited Granite Rock 3 - 4 times, usually on a Sunday, and let me just say... The food hits the spot. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I usually order waffles with a side of sausage, or one of their eggs benedicts. I've never found myself disappointed. The service has always been super great. Very down to earth place. We only waited about 10 minutes for our table, and the place was packed. If you order coffee I promise it will never get less than half full, these guys know the importance of a hot and full cup of java. Thank goodness most of the Eggs Benedict dishes come in half size portions because that and the order of hash browns filled my plate to the brim. They offer a lot of different plays on scrambles, omelettes, etc. so everyone will find something they want to eat.
