This is a nice restaurant on Main St Cold Spring Harbor. There is a public parking lot right next door the the building so it was easy getting in and out. The restaurant is split in two. When you first walk in to the right is a bar and tables on the left side. There was a 2 piece light jazz group playing during Brunch. My party was a couple of steps up in the other room. We attended an engagement party. The space was a bit crowded but once we sat down it was comfortable. The staff walked around serving Bellinis and a passion fruit drink and small appetizers. The sit down brunch had a nice selection of entrees. I opted for the crab omelet which had a spicy sauce and cheese topping along with fried potatoes. That was the best thing I had there. The fruit dish was average. I probably would try it again for dinner or lunch and if you check out their website they have different musicians playing almost every night. read more

I wish I could give less stars after having dinner there. The hostess/owner couldn't have been more rude. After finishing our dinner, which was rushed to us, we were asked to order dessert , still with our drinks half full, and the hostess/owner came over and said, we had to place our dessert order now b/c there were people waiting outside for a table. Long time favorite is better than ever. Live jazz every night and weekend afternoons, with best view from the comfortable bar. All the food is exceptional and service is spot on. If I could give no stars I would. 1/2 an hour waiting and not even bread or a wait person to take a cocktail order. Not the experience I was looking for. It took five people to wait on. table nearby and no one acknowledged us. We left and the hostess said our drinks were on the way, NO, no one ever took an order. Her response was WHAT EVER! What a find! This friendly and welcoming local restaurant has a cool bar, live music most evenings, and a menu whose choices defy easy decision making! Our servers were attentive and helpful. We shared a generous and bountiful harvest salad chockablock with dried cranberries and feta cheese. My zucchini noodle dish was healthy, delicious, and filling. My husband's cioppino was flavorful and fresh and nearly overflowed it's bowl! Alas, we had no room left for dessert. In all the years I've been living in the Huntington area, on my way to Oyster Bay, I'd pass this cute little restaurant on Cold Spring Harbors' main street. With tiki torches lining a small outside patio and a few tables usually filled with patrons. It always looked cute and was one of those places that made its way to my "One of these days, I have to try that place" list. So, that day finally arrived. In my desire to try someplace outside of our regular haunts, Grasso's popped up with good reviews and an available 8 pm reservation. On arrival, we were promptly seated, so far so good. A small Jazz trio was playing some relaxed classics and a waiter greeted us with menus. I was enjoying the quiet, classy atmosphere. The cocktail and wine selection were decent and the menu had some excellent choices. From steak to seafood paella risotto as well as several daily specials to choose from. We went with a salad to share, Gails' Pear Salad with Bibb Lettuce, Blue Cheese, Walnuts and Grilled Pears. Excellent! A sweet and savory combination, we both cleaned our plates. Next up was our entrees, the Paella Risotto with Chicken, Chorizo, and Shrimp and the Fresh Fusilli Avellinesi with Lobster & Shrimp. Both were really good! Although the Fusilli won out with the cognac cream sauce. We topped our meals off with Bananas Foster (which they flambe'd tableside) and two cappuccinos. We walked out of there full and happy. Overall, Grasso's is a great date night option if you're looking for classic Jazz and an older relaxed vibe. It's pretty traditional and really a special place for dinner that matches the quaintness of Cold Spring Harbor. Fantastic meal! We started with Blue Point oysters, baked with pesto, and seared diver sea scallops over a butternut purée. Beautifully plated and perfectly prepared. So delicious. We are here for Throw Back Sunday, and Grasso's is celebrating their 20th year in business. They are presenting their original menu from 1994. The Caesar and Beet salads were terrific. For entrees, we had the filet mignonette, medium rare, and black fish special. Every bite was fantastic. The filet was cooked exactly as we requested and the fish was melt in your mouth tender and flaky. And, the best part of the evening was the service. We never waited more than a few moments before one of the staff members came by to check on us. The highlight of the evening was a visit from Gail Grasso, who confirmed that wedding had a great evening and then shared a few stories about how she and her partners opened the restaurant. Great food, great service, great live music and great sense of local connection to the history of the north shore. read more

This was our second time at Grassos. The first for our anniversary was great and my wife wanted to go again, this time, for her birthday. It was no surprise that everything was as expected. The Breaded Veal Chop was delicious and tender; Filet Mignon cooked perfectly medium rare. Note...The vegetables are heated... not soft. Nothing wrong with that unless you like fully cooked. My friend and I have eaten here three times in the last 8 weeks or so. Almost everything has been superb. The chef has a way with fish - last time I had the halibut, which was perfectly prepared. Appetizers are a great way to start here and are usually sizeable enough to be shared. Drinks are great - the basil martini is my friend's fave! The only miss on the food was the scallops, which were a little too undercooked. The service doesn't miss - it's always attentive without being intrusive. Way too expensive for the food quality. Seated at the enclave/glassy small room. Nice and quiet but chilly. It was mid 40s outside and none of us took the jacket off during the entire dinner. Appetizers: Mussles, great. No complaints. Scallops, 4 of them fried scallops. Very good. For the $18 price tag you also get a full plate of buttery wld rice-ish + dried cranberry + carrots + sweet potato Main courses: Filet mignon is good quality. Maybe not top quality. But good anyway. it could be just the steak knives that can't cut through the meat easily. Long Island Duck: I think the duck has lived a long, exercise-free life before he passed away. The soggy, sugary duck skin proves that comoletely, in addition to the leathery meat. The abundance of sugar did not add anything to the flavor. Pork Chop: I had no idea to what it was supposed to taste like but just knew this: it wasn't good. I was able to slice off a bit meat at the first but it became harder and less appealing by the minute, and I gave up on it quickly. Overall, bland and chewy. Eventually the restaurant comp'd the pork chop. I do appreciate the gesture. Drinks: smaller ice cubes means more ice, less drink. kids' lemonade served in with e glasses filled with said small ice cubes. So $3 for a few sips of lemonade. "More" lemonade means another glass. Service: Mostly prompt but not always. There weren't many customers on a Sunday night and the waters waitresses would just stand there and talk. I came here with co-workers for lunch. Ordered black fish with crab meat on top and rice and spinach on the side. Cons: The presentation of the food was mediocre, same as you would get in a company cafeteria. A piece of fish next to boiled rice and steamed spinach. The spinach leaves were not cut, the bottom of the stems looked liked it was steamed right out witout cutting a small piece to get rid of the discolored part. The rice was cooked using vegetable broth, it was not cooked properly, still crunchy. Fish was mediocre, not juicy or tender, also very little carb meat on top. For the $$$ price point definetely not worth it. Pros: Service was very attentive and polite. read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Parking is behind the establishment, where the uphill driveway is a breeding ground for a possible accident. As soon as we got in to the restaurant we were seated which was nice. The crowd was older, but the Jazz brunch we were promised was FULL of jazz... which is why I even gave this review 2 stars. The entertainment was wonderful. The actual brunch was lacking. The omelets were undercooked, and the vegetables were not well cooked and were pretty raw. The mimosa was watered down, and the potatoes were at best, mediocre. Brunch being my favorite meal, this restaurant ruined it for me.... When home for the holidays, it's a family traditionfor my parents and I to get together with my cousin and her parents. Being seasoned diners, generous tippers, and loyal customers, we were eager to try a new restaurant. We made reservations at 5:30 to take advantage of the prix fixe menu. My parents and I got there at 5:35 to find a virtually empty restaurant. Red flag #1. We were half-heartedly greeted by the owner (in a "oh, you want to eat here?" kinda way....flag #2) and were not seated right away (flag #3). We were eventually seated next to an elderly couple who were apparently finishing up their early bird special. While we sat waiting for the rest of our party, we went without menus and without water. My cousin and her parents arrived late...at about 5:50. The waitstaff and owner hovered and whispered...until I overheard one of the servers mutter to another, "No prix fixe." At 5:55, we were handed the regular dinner menu. Since we had intended to order from the prix fixe menu, we called over to our server. He conferred with another server and said it was no longer available. We all looked at our watches (granted, we were pushing the 6:00 deadline) and realized that it wasn't 6pm yet. Besides, half of us were there at 5:35. The owner eventually dragged herself over to our table and declared, "You're too late." We all looked at each other and my aunt said, "But it's not 6:00 yet." She informed us that the order had to be placed by 6:00 and that it was now, in fact, 6:00. In fact, I think she looked at her watch and paused a few seconds, waiting for the second hand to reach 12 before finishing her sentence. Dumbfounded. We were all speechless. The restaurant was completely empty. No exaggeration. We were the ONLY ones there. And in all of our years dining at some pretty fine establishments, none of us had ever experienced such horrific service. Granted, we were a little late. Ok. I give you that. But seriously...to withhold the menus and then seemingly stall so that you can potentially make a few more bucks off the regular menu...that's just tacky!! We had all decided that this would be the last time we would dine here...until my aunt had a wonderful idea. Let's just go somewhere else. Brilliant! So we left a few bucks for the server who eventually poured us some water, walked out, went down to Huntington...and had a fabulous dinner at Jonathan's!! Jonathan's, by the way, is a lovely restaurant. We didn't have reservations on a busy holiday evening...and they set up (literally rolled out) another table for us without having to ask. Came upon Grasso's by accident looking for a pizza place for a picnic. Turned into a great half hour sitting with Janet and Gayle, the owner. They were sweet to my boys and gave me some utensils and plates to make the picnic a little more civil. The pizza was declared "awesome" by my pizza affianado, age 7. And I thought the burger was excellent. Order it as is, med rare and only use the ketchup on the perfect perfectly fried cottage fries. I really liked this place - Cold Spring harbor is just an adorable town to begin with (all .25 miles of it), and this place is set up on sort of against a hill, with some intimate outside seating, a larger dining room and a nice bar area. I came here because my Aunt sings here every so often, and I wanted to toss her some support, so my friend and I took the train in (taxi, about a five minute ride) and decided to sit at the bar and split some appetizers. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and helpful, and when I walked through the dining room, it wasn't over crowded with tables to jam people in - also, in the ladies room, there was an amenities basket that you don't usually see any more with cotton corks, hand lotion, nail files - nice touch. The bar looks right into the cozy, smaller part of the room with a small dance floor and a handful of "intimate" seating - I hate using the same word to describe something, but thats really the best description - and the bartender was just fantastic. Very sweet lady, NICE pours on the wine, and very, very friendly. We wound up splitting figs stuffed with goat cheese wrapped in prosciutto over argula, crab cakes over mesculn greens and oysters two ways - 6 raw, 6 baked with cheese. every single thing was fantastic. I kept thinking "which one would be my favorite" and I couldn't decide. they also give you a bread and flat bread basket accompanied by an olive tapanade, hummus, and this lovely garlic/basil infused olive oil. over all, we had a wonderful experience with the setting, the people, the staff and the food. If I can get the beefcake up to the north shore for a date night, this will probably be on our short list of places to go - every dinner sounded delicious. read more

As far as food goes, my husband's veal was pretty good ( I think it was a special), Crab Cake just ok, my steak was basically tasteless, came out wrong and then it was way overcooked. House wines were not my favorite to say the least. Skipped dessert which I am sure you could understand why. I won't be going back there that's for sure, I understand that it depends on what you order but mine wasn't just ok it was awful. Great local Italian food. Really old crowd (I'm 34 and the next closest person to me in age was about 85 lol). But it has its charm. Simple, classic, comfortable Italian with live music. This is definitely my new favorite restaurant. Shawn the maître d' was wonderful & they are doing a great job with the social distancing. I felt safe even with my compromised immune system and this was the first restaurant that asked for our phone number to do coronavirus tracking. The food was delicious & the service was terrific. While this place may not look like much from the outside, this may be one of the coolest places to eat in the area. Live Jazz music, and while a classier place, has a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Also note that a throwback menu with original prices is available on Sundays, which is awesome. Service was exceptionally quick, yet not rushed. I got the stuffed mushrooms for appitizer, which was fantastic. Full of flavor and drizzled with a creamy vinagerette. The Branzino was good, however it really didn't have much flavor, even with the surprisingly mellow tasting capers. And Bananas Foster for dessert was probably my favorite part of the meal. Flambé'd at tableside, and served hot over vanilla ice cream in a martini glass. Absolutely fantastic flavor. I would go back for this alone. Overall I had a really great time here, and the food was great. Plus I never had Branzino before and love trying new things, even if I end up not being thrilled by it. Grasso's is one of my favorite restaurants. Recently, my wife and I had a lunch with another couple. As usual, the table was covered with a clean white cloth and the silverware and the glasses were well displayed on the table. As we sat next to the wide window in the inner hall, we enjoyed the historic Cold Spring Harbor street and buildings. We liked the bread and its three unique dipping sauces. And we ordered grilled baby artichoke, bean soup, pork chop, sea bass, and mahi mahi. All of them came out in the right temperature, clean and appropriate plates and bowls, and presentation. Most of all, the taste was beautiful and as always the reason I visit Grasso's again. Tea, coffee, and sorbet were well pleasing. The atmosphere was stylish as well as homey.
