Enjoyed the Gobbler breakfast sandwich--the picture doesn't do it justice! And while I was waiting for my sandwich, I was tempted by the day old offerings (half price) so this loaf was $5. I wasn't done so also grabbed dog treats for my lab and huckleberry jam. read more

Service. No greeting when I walked in. No hello. No engagement. No service. When checking out, clerk didn't ask if I had a reward number attached. Didn't ask at all if I needed help with anything. Clerk was Grace with pink hair. Baked goods are always good, just wish Service was as well... :( If service was good, woulda been 5 stars....... read more

Hands down best bread in town. Pick a type, any type, and I swear it will be delicious. Cute coffee bar, fun breakfast and lunch options, and great variety of various fruit spreads for the bread. P.S. For sourdough not made in the salty coastal air its actually quite nice. read more

Stopped here for breakfast and lunch sandwiches (for later during a weekend welding class). The sandwiches were tasty. The staff was nice and service fairly quick. the gave me a taste of their honey oat bread which was warm and awesome tasting served plain. i would go just for the bread read more

Lots to choose from but get there early because they sell out pretty fast. I've had a sandwich there that was freshly made for me and it was very good. Bread was so fresh as were the other ingredients. Service was great and staff are very helpful and friendly. The wonderful smells that hit your nose as soon as you walk in are dangerous because I want to buy one of everything in there. The shop is clean with tables set up for eating there. Great place! read more

My husband's go-to neighborhood sandwich shop, Great Harvest is in our regular Saturday rotation. We stop by at least once a month, picking up sandwiches, chips, cookies, a loaf (or two) of bread, soup mixes, etc. It takes a while but we don't mind waiting as usually there's just one guy busting his butt. The owners make it hard for us Saturday customers, however. Sometimes the cafe closes early, and sometimes it doesn't open at all. With Jersey Mike's and Meltz opening so close by, the owners might want to consider their sandwich customers a bit more. read more

This is the best GH that I have visited and I've been to a lot. They have a very wide variety of delicious baked goods My favorites are BT Cake, lemon bars and shortbread. Their paninis and salads are super yummy too. We love their locally sourced honey. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is welcoming and there is ample seating. I was so excited to see a great harvest bread co in this area. It was a last minute decision to go check them out and so happy I did. The lemon bar was one of the best I've ever tried. I also ordered a scone but wasn't my favorite. I'm super picky and just didn't like the added white chocolate chips. But I love this place for bread and treats and recommend to anyone wanting those items! read more

I love Great Harvest! Their bread is amazing. It's made with freshly ground whole wheat flour, honey, yeast, water, & salt. They also have numerous treats to indulge in. I can't stand this place. Overpriced junk food. When I saw them advertising themselves as best bread in boise I almost fell over. Their bread is not real bread, there is not even a single real yeast-less sourdough. Not sure if the owner has ever been to a real bakery. A trip to Europe is in need, desperately, to learn how to make real bread. These dry, over yeasted, flavorless, monotonous textured, over sugared, over processed, products are an insult to bread, cookies, cakes etc. In addition, they charge unjustifiably high prices for gluten free up charge on sandwiches that are half the size on a regular sized sandwich. read more

Great Harvest has a wonderful selection of freshly baked bread and tasty sandwiches. The service is superb and typically it takes only about four steps into the shop before one of the workers greets me and asks what I would like to sample. Today, they were cutting slices of cinnamon roll bread, which were very good. I typically order a BLT to take back to work to eat. The bacon is top-notch and they press the sandwich in a panini press. Bonus points for carrying Reisinger honey from Emmett. Some of the best honey around, also sold at Winco and the Boise Co-Op. I took off a star because of the polystyrene clamshells they pack to-go sandwiches in. In this day and age, there has to be a better packing material than something that has a half-life of 5,000 years. McDonald's quit using them years ago. read more

I am rating them highly based on being knowledgeable, customer service, and efficiency. I tried the gluten-free bread they had today which is brown rice Dakota. Maybe I should have asked if I could sample it first. It's pretty dry. That it's a grainy, nutty bread, which I like :-) I'm happy to find basically a homemade sandwich (PB&J ) for $4 because nothing else in that price range is very healthy elsewhere. I think seven or eight dollars is too much for any other ssandwich but $4 for a PB&J or $5 for a grilled cheese isn't bad. :-) read more

Great Harvest is always consistently wonderful!! Always greeted with a friendly smile or hello, they always ask if I have questions, they always are patient when I order, I want it all!!!! Their ingredients are yummy and fresh. I know they name this place after their bread so this is a silly comment, I love their breads! I love their breads on the sandwiches, I love their breads with their soups, I love that honking piece of bread they offer you when you walk in the door! Yum, carb heaven! Love! I have had many of their salads and many of their sandwiches and I have never gone wrong. So don't stress about what you order. You made the right choice, no matter your choice. I don't usually give one-try reviews, but the avocado and egg breakfast sandwich is one of the worst I can ever remember trying in my life. They don't cook their eggs from scratch, they use a premade congealed egg "omelette" with a revolting texture. The avocado also tasted off... something is wrong here. read more

I used to go to this Great Harvest all the time because it was just down the street from where I worked. Their bread gets five stars (obvs) and so does their self-serve Dawson Taylor coffee. I love their generous free samples and the giant slabs of butter they set out to go with them. They also have awesome sandwiches and pastries. The only thing I don't like about this Great Harvest is the iffy customer service. I've walked in MANY times to see a ton of people behind the counter yet no one greeted me or stepped forward to ask how they could help. Yes, eventually I got the free sample and my sandwich or whatever I was ordering that day, but sometimes it took a while, even if I was the only person there. The great vibe that people talk about is, I guess, not my vibe. I personally don't like hearing the people who are making my sandwich talk amongst themselves like the customers are not there (I have heard, at various times, talk about concerts, boyfriends, and injuries). It makes it feel like everyone behind the counter is in a clique that everyone in front of the counter is not a part of. In the past year or more that I've been patronizing this place, I buy coffee every time I'm in there. And every time I buy coffee, the person behind the counter tells me, "the coffee's over there." Every. Single. Time. So maybe I don't have the most memorable face, but there were times I would be in there at least once a week and saw the same person who told me the same thing. Weird? Or are they just pro-gluten A.I. robots that are blankly spew the same lines over and over again? That said, if I'm in the area, I still stop by from time to time. Not for the stellar customer service but because the coffee and the bread are so damn good. read more

It seems impossible for this to be a chain and franchise as every single one I've been to has its own charm, and the best tastings carbs you will ever consume. Every visit comes with a free sample. But when they say sample, what they really mean is "let me give you a full serving of this item you have never tried before you order your meal". Carb loading at its finest. Ive never had a bad meal at this place in the three locations I have been to. Go for soup on a chilly day and you will love it. Go for coffee and read your newspaper and you will love it. I was so excited to find this place by accident, my kids had a party at the clay painting place next door and I stopped to get a cup of coffee and ended up buying fresh bread too. Came back same day for lunch, I ordered the Reuben and the Turkey Pesto. When they said my order was ready there was only one sandwhich, I sat back down thinking they must still be making the second one. After a few minutes I asked if they were still making the sandwhich, all three counter workers had no idea what I was talking about. Took them several more minutes to find my original ticket and make the missing sandwich. By the time I got home the first sandwich was completely soggy and gross. Which is a shame cause they looked like they would have been so good if I had not had to wait an extra 20 minutes for the second sandwich. read more

This sandwich shop/bakery is INCREDIBLE. The staff immediately greeted us so kindly, and were patient when we needed a few minutes to decide. We ordered 2 cookies, one for me, and one for my young daughter, and the woman helping us was so kind as to ask her which shape she wanted most, as well as offering to switch it out when she dropped her bag and broke her cookie. We declined, as a broken cookie tastes as good as a whole, but I thought that was incredibly kind. Moving through the line we were offered free bread, and the slices they give are generous! There is a butter dish and honey available to dress the bread. We tried the pumpkin chocolate chip and the Challah. Both were amazing, and we went home with the Challah. When I expressed how nice it was of them to do the free samples, she replied that generosity is something that they build their business around. My daughter enjoyed her turkey and cheese sandwich and I really did like the Rueben, although I probably would choose something different for next time. Their bread, however, cannot be beat. I look forward to trying soup next time I'm in! read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. Let's talk the initially reason I came in......the quality of ingredients used is stellar. You can actually get a loaf of bread that was made with nature's ingredients and the way bread it supposed to be made, WITHOUT all the processed chemicals and preservatives. I buy two to three loaves a week and I am never let down by the quality. Now let's talk staff. These are the friendliest and most accommodating people I have encountered in a long time. When I came in a bit early and the sourdough wasn't ready they told me to call and they would hold one for me. So nice! Their sandwiches are also amazing. Best quality ingredients and it shows. This is hands down my favorite bakery in town. They are a chain, but not in the traditional sense. Touted as a freedom franchise, owners of Great Harvest franchise are given creative freedom with their bakeries...so, no two Great Harvest Bakeries are quite the same. Business aside...this place is the bread lovers Mecca. Their bread is fresh baked daily and in many cases whole grain. They have several types to choose from on a daily basis and then they offer either one or two special breads of the day. My favorites? Honey whole Wheat, Spinach Feta, Country White, and Cinnamon Chip. They also have dinner rolls that would deliciously compliment any holiday feast. Plus, they have a slew of sweet treats they make on a daily basis (cookies, muffins etc.). I seldom get the treats, so I cannot comment too extensively on that--but I did get their chocolate chip cookie mix a few times and good lord are those some fabulous cookies! Oh! And, they offer a sample slice of bread to every customer--take it! More often than not, it is still warm from the oven and they serve real butter with it! (Something I seldom purchase for home, so a decadent treat!). Their service is above reproach and always friendly. Overall--absolutely as good as it gets! read more

Just moved to Boise, but used to always go to great harvest in Oregon. It was really bizarre first visit to this location, as I felt invisible while in line. Everyone else was offered free bread samples except me, and I was considering buying some bread. When I was called up to the register, I ended up only getting a cookie and coffee, and wasn't asked about bread or anything. Very friendly when they talk to you, but imagine how much more they could sell if they actually asked... read more

Established in 1982.

Locally owned since 1982 Great Harvest Bread Co. has been baking whole grain breads since the 1970s—long before it was trendy. Founders Pete and Laura Wakeman opened their first bakery in Great Falls, Montana, where word quickly spread about their uniquely flavorful bread made with simple, wholesome ingredients and wheat sourced from local farmers. In 1978, Great Harvest became a franchise, growing into the nation’s first family of independently owned and operated whole grain bread bakeries. The Boise bakery opened in 1982 at its current location on Fairview Avenue, thanks to local owners Peggy and Paul. Since then, it has stayed in the hands of passionate local bakers. In 2007, Zach and Mallari took the reins, followed by Zane and Heather in 2018. While once our 'go to' for bread and baked goodies when we discovered them about ten years ago, we have found in the last two years that Gaston's seems to be struggling with consistency in all of their breads and pastries. It is like seeing a friend ailing without ability to help. Also where we once experienced Gaston's as the 'go to' of quality restaurants for bread it now seems many are using another local baker, Acme, which is the one we chose most often too for consistent top quality. I hope Gaston's finds their groove again. We no longer recommend it to others as the first choice.

It was so fluffy and delicious and tasted like it was fresh out of the oven. All of the stuff is always super sweet. My mom is obsessed with their blueberry bars and if I do not come prepared with four blueberry bars, when I visit, she will be very disappointed. Always a great time to stop by certified and get a treat. Definitely try out their baked goodies as well.

The shop is very small and intimate. You are immediately greeted by all the goodies as soon as you walk in. Colorful macarons, the cutest cheesecakes and beautifully displayed scones and muffins. The display case is nice and bright, allowing you to be able to see the details and coloring of each macaron. The pretty piping on the cheesecake. The fun layers of the cakes. It was hard not to want one of each thing out of the case. It was our first visit for my daughter and I. As a new customer, you're trying to absorb everything about this store. You want to look at all your options! The gal that initially was going to help us pretty much just stood there and stared at us. Didn't really talk to us. Didn't ask if we had any questions. She had the most unpleasant look on her face. It honestly made me feel so unwanted and uncomfortable to be at the shop. I offered to let another customer go ahead of us so she wasn't just standing there waiting for us to order something. The second customer also needed some time. Finally a gentleman came in and she got him some coffee started. Another gal was working and she helped us. At that point, I was so turned off about getting anything but we were already there so we decided to grab a few things. My daughter and I decided to share a 6 pack of macarons. We snagged lemon, birthday cake, coffee, chocolate, creme brulee and cookies and cream as our flavor choices. She also got a red velvet cheesecake for us to share after dinner tonight. On our ride home, we broke that box of macarons open and had to try them all. The lemon was sweet and tangy, I love the lemon custard in the middle. Birthday cake reminds me of a pink frosted animal cookie. The chocolate was my favorite! Very chocolate forward and sweet. Coffee reminded me of a vanilla latte in cookie form. Cookies and cream was much like cookies and cream ice cream. More cream forward and less chocolate cookie. Creme brulee had sugar toasted on top which created a slight bitterness to the cookie but it was balanced with how sweet the cookie was. All 6 macarons were fabulous! I look forward to having the red velvet cheesecake after dinner tonight. I like that there are so many gluten free options at this bakery. I adore how petite and prettily decorated the pastries were. I appreciate that this joint is local as I love supporting local businesses. But, first impressions are so huge for me and my first impression of their customer service wasn't there for me. You can push out great products all you want but how you make someone feel during their purchase can make or break your business. As fantastic as my macarons were, all I can think about was how uncomfortable I was when I was just being stared at. Macarons and cheesecake can be purchased at a few joints in our valley. I'm happy I got to enjoy some goodies with my daughter but I'm going to go support another local business that will actually make me feel like a valued customer and not a bother.

I'm also sure with selling to those two major grocery stores plus selling them in your bakery that you can absolutely afford to use better ties, ones that we can actually open and reuse vs these where you can't just open them, you have to cut the top of the bag and then basically...the bag is useless after that. I know this sounds petty, but ugh they're they worst! Aside from that, this place is super nice. It's in a very weird location tho, I was surprised by that. It's like the only sit down place on this street. Across from them is a warehouse of some sort, half a block up are homes, it's just seems like it would be better on the north end, or NW Boise, basically anywhere other than where it is lol. Lots of goodies to choose from. I appreciate that this bakery uses gut friendly sourdough. My friend who I normally buy my sourdough from decided to take a break from baking. So now I'm trying to find someone who can compare to her delicious sourdough. The store is awkwardly set up. Racks separating the bakery from the store front. If someone is standing in front of the bread rack, you're pretty much stuck until they move. The front of the bread rack is what leads to the front door. But, as congested as it was, the racks and shelves were perfectly stocked loaves of sliced sourdough bread, cookies and rolls. It was overwhelming trying to check everything out without fearing you might bump into someone. They only had a couple options for the sweet goods, I honestly thought there would be more for Valentine's day. There were quite a few options of savory goods. The lady behind the counter said they had a late start so that could possibly be why there weren't many sweets available. I did grab a red velvet cinnamon roll and some chocolate chip cookies for a couple of my Valentines. I was interested in getting a loaf of sourdough for my husband. The only loaves they had available were kinda small. I was hoping for something bigger loaf that would last us for more than meal. The cookies were a hit with my family. I did have some of my daughter's red velvet cinnamon roll. It was killer. The cinnamon roll was soft and flavorful from the chocolate. The frosting on top added an extra touch of sweetness. I only had a couple bites but I could have polished it off easily. Not gonna lie, those 2 things I got were pricey. The singular cinnamon roll was 7+ bucks. It was a decent size but pricey for just 1 roll. The cookies were 4 to a package and at a similar price point or more. For those 2 items my total was 20 bucks. With people budgeting their money now a days, bread and pastries from this joint would be considered a luxury. People want a good amount of bang for their buck. What I got today was good but I don't see myself coming regularly when there's other local bakers that can make the same product for a portion of the cost. My interaction with the gal behind the counter was ok. She was more chatty with a couple regular guests. I'm happy I got to stop into this local bakery and grab a couple things.
