I took some time before posting this because honestly, I didn't want to. I've been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the friendly service and good quality food. Unfortunately, what happened last Sunday left me very disappointed. I understand it was a busy day and the staff was stretched thin, but the service was extremely slow and my table felt ignored. Our server looked overwhelmed and to her credit it seemed like she was trying to juggle a hundred fires at once. That said, she often rushed away at every opportunity, and while I can sympathize with the pressure she was under, it doesn't justify how neglected we felt as guests. A small gesture was offered, but it didn't balance out how overlooked we felt. I've brought many friends, colleagues, and guests here over the years and always spoke highly of this place, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. It makes me wonder if the restaurant is perpetually short staffed and, if so, why that continues to be the case. Either way, the end result is the same- poor service and dissatisfied customers. My wife and I had the most amazing breakfast this morning. Delicious breakfast - eggs cooked to order perfectly - two big links of breakfast sausage and the best avocado toast I've had in a long time. Pancakes were hot and fluffy with crispy edges - served with extra butter and whipped cream - super delicious!!! Our waiter "David" was professional, attentive and very helpful and went above and beyond to attend to our every need. Best of all - we were treated like royalty there and it didn't gouge our pocket book. One final thing, the ambience was great as well - wide spacious, rustic design, clean and well kept appearance - cloth napkins and a crystal clear rustic water decanter to ensure our glass is always full. I was so excited to finally bring my family here as I had this placed bookmarked for quite sometime. The outdoor dining is refreshing as its right in front of a large fountain. Inside the restaurant is beautiful, the paint, the decor, just everything. We were immediately greeted by the hostess who accommodated our seating request, and were taken to our table right away. Our server took a while to greet us, longer than what you could usually expect. We asked for water to start but the kids water took until we were halfway done eating to get there. Our server was nice but not very attentive. Orders Lemon shrimp pasta - I unfortunately got too excited and didn't take a picture. It was shrimp with linguini, tomatoes, Parmesan, lemon garlic butter, white wine and chili flakes. This was ok. I expected more flavor but it was very bland. I literally squeezed the half lemon onto the food and had to add salt to get flavor. It smelled very good but the aroma didn't match the taste. Fried chicken and doughnuts - the fried chicken was good and juicy, but the maple bacon donuts were heavy and very sweet. Every bite of a donut had to be accompanied by a piece of chicken for us to enjoy. This one was probably the best item we ordered. Mac n cheese appetizer - this looked tasty but was also bland. We had to add a good amount of salt. Ribeye Hash - this had sliced ribeye, crispy seasoned potatoes, onion, piquillo peppers, tomatoes, shaved brussels sprouts, two poached eggs, cajun hollandaise, chives. Hubby ate it, but it was just whatever for him. Again very appealing to look at, but he wouldn't order it again. He said he was disappointed in this dish. Buttermilk pancakes with strawberries - this was inconsistent. We ordered two of these. One of them came with the strawberries cooked inside the pancake which made the pancakes and the strawberries very mushy. The other came with strawberries on top. Neither one was enjoyed by anyone in our party. We had a ton of leftover pancakes as they were barely touched. I wish we would've loved everything. We spent a lot of money here and the fact that they are rated so well was puzzling. I could understand maybe one dish being off possibly...but we didn't like anything we ordered. The food lacked flavor except for the doughnuts that were extremely sweet, and the items came out warm almost cold. I'm always willing to give places more than one try but it's hard to convince hubby to be as open as I am, so this will likely be our only time here. So sad. read more

I was really excited to eat here because I hadn't eaten at a Great Maple in such a long time. Unfortunately, I remember the food being so much better before. I ordered the Fried Chicken and Doughnuts and it was just eh. It caught my eye because it was under the "Brunch Favorites" and it was also a "Great Maple Signature Dish." Overall, we enjoyed our experience. The wait is a little longer. There were some things that we definitely liked more than others. I tried their signature fried chicken and maple doughnut breakfast. The fried chicken was really good. The maple donuts were just OK. None of us really liked them. We felt like they would've been a lot better had they tasted fresh and right out of the fryer. This tasted like a day old donut that had been sitting in the fridge. It was very dense and cold. We're hoping if we take it home and warm it up, it will be better. The eggs were very yummy and fluffy. The avocado toast was really good too. I really enjoyed the buttermilk pancakes, but we felt like the fruit baked into the pancakes was not great. It's mushy and not a great flavor, versus fresh fruit on top which we would have preferred. The bacon was good. All in all a good experience, worth a try. Great maple is inside of fashion island. We were going to go to toast kitchen and bakery but saw this place and wanted to give it a try since it had so many ratings. I hold brunch to a pretty high standard being in SoCal since there are so many places that people rave about. However, most of them end up being bad since they don't season their food... I can guarantee you that does not happen here. The food is extremely flavorful and you will probably die eating the donut and fried chicken by yourself. IT surprisingly has a slight bitter taste to it which I liked since it wasn't overly sweet. I just wouldn't recommend getting the Hashed steak? I forgot what the dish was called to be honest. I thought it was going to be hash browns which always associate with being crispy but here hash are thinly slice potatoes. But technically I believe they are diced up potato cubes/small wedges. I was a bit confused by that and out of everything we ordered, that was the only one that was not worth the price tag in my opinion. Wish they would check up on the customers a tad bit more but it was a packed house so I can't even really blame them for that. It's been a while since I was last here and my food and service experience was top notch this time around. We sat out on the patio and the heaters made it very comfortable and enjoyable on a beautiful cool day. We started our food experience with their yummy portobello mushroom fries. I suggest substituting the fries for a mini Caesar salad. Fries are not the scene stealer here. Amy and Spencer both got the Pancake Pops. It's like a breakfast corn dog. Got there about 10 minutes early and was told the patrons at our table had already paid and were just waiting for them to leave. After about 25 minutes got a text sat our table was ready. When we got to the front desk was told there was an inside table and it would be another 30 minutes to sit outside. We were placed in the back by the restrooms and kitchen. I have been to the San Diego location many times and enjoyed it every single time, but this was my first time at the Fashion Island location. It was just as good and as memorable as all the times dining in San Diego. We had reservations for 10 AM and were able to sit as soon as the doors were opened. Our server was also very quick and attentive and did a great job. They have a lot of great options on the menu and I have tried many different dishes over the years but this time I started off with the Maple and Bacon Donuts and loved them. This was a birthday breakfast, so it was a great occasion to splurge. I highly recommend them. For my entrée I chose the Biscuit Benedict, which I've had many times before and it is always delicious. It's a healthy sized portion and you will definitely not be hungry after finishing it. Parking is really easy considering it's attached to Fashion Island. It's directly at the top of the escalator near PF Changs and The Cheesecake Factory. We sat indoors and they have a couple of large screen TV's playing sports. It's a nice ambience and the staff is great. The manager came by a couple times and asked if we were doing ok. I decided to have the Ribeye melt - which I regret. The ribeye was a bit tough and chewy so I only ate half of it. I munched on my fries the rest of the meal. My brother in law had this sandwich before and he said his was the same way. The fried chicken and doughnuts look good, but I'm sure that was a ton of calories. The chicken bowl my sister ordered didn't look appetizing, but she said it was okay. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It just too bad the food didn't "wow" me at all. If you're a mushroom person, you have to order this. What makes it delicious is not only their parmesan fried portobello mushrooms, but their creamy basil pesto aioli! We order this all the time when we visit. I'm such a wedge salad person, but I don't know if I would order their Cobb wedge salad again. It wasn't terrible, but I think I like a creamy blue cheese dressing more than a blue cheese vinaigrette taste. I do like how it was filling though, and they added a bunch of tomatoes, radish, and avocado. Their hot honey friend chicken sandwich was sure tasty, and perfectly crisp! Buttermilk fried chicken, cabbage slaw, hot honey aioli, and white american cheese. You can't go wrong with this order, you need to try it! And omg, their french toast logs are perfection! Thick cut brioche with a lot of maple syrup, and blueberries. Lastly, if you go to great maple, you have to have their classic maple doughnuts. My husband had hamburger and it was not cooked enough. Took way too long to get it back. Our friends had lemon pasta and the pasta was tasteless. I had a BLT that was ok but nothing to write home about. Service was poor. I was here a few years ago and really enjoyed the food however I will not be back. This restaurant has taken a 180 and I would not waste your money. There is a reason why it wasn't busy on a Sunday when all the other restaurants were packed. Came here a few years ago and then came back last night and must say that this place still fantastic! It's a really cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating that has a great ambiance, and the staff here is so friendly and attentive. I've ordered the fried chicken sandwich and the BLT, and both were excellent as well. While it is a little on the higher end in terms of price (it's in Newport so entirely expected), I'd say that it was still worth it all things considered. I love coming to Great Maple! They have a wonderful menu that consists of breakfast items served ALL DAY! They also mix in other great lunch/dinner items so you can have it all. It is a great thing to have the option to order off the brunch menu at 6:00pm - who doesn't love a good order of eggs or french toast any time they want? Some of my go-to's include: --"Modern American Breakfast" which is a perfectly balanced meal of eggs, protein, and some veggies --"French Toast Logs" - includes blueberries! --"Steakhouse Burger" - the aioli makes it next level Every time I have been there, they have been able to provide some recommendations on seasonal drinks or seasonal menu items while also being quick and attentive no matter how busy the place is. When the food eventually came out it was sub par, at best. The chilaquiles were too salty and inedible. They were sent back and replaced with $12 truffle fries- meh. They One person never got their food. Their plate was brought out 10-15 min after everyone else had started eating. I ordered the modern american breakfast. 2 eggs, 2 sausages and avocado toast that used old brown avocados (barely a smear). The avo toast was sent back as well.
