Once a classic, always a classic. I came here back in 2023 and loved it so was glad to finally have another visit! I came around 1p on a Thursday and hadn't realized they closed at 2 until I finished eating and the place remained totally empty at 2:15pm. The staff were so nice about it though, they told me to leave whenever I wanted (I did leave like 10 mins later). But the staff were friendly and helpful, the bathrooms were immaculate, and there was tons of seating inside so I was seated right away when I arrived even though there had been a lot of people eating there when I came. I got a guava elderflower mimosa that was GORGEOUS and a pretty good size (like $16?) and an order of bacon chocolate pancakes (comes with like 5 medium sized ones) with a side of 2 eggs, and the kale salad. Everything costed $75 including tax and tip, and it was so much food I was stuffed after the pancakes, eggs, and just a bit of the salad. I took the rest of the salad to go and ate in on the plane ride home for dinner - it was the perfect amount of food for two meals. Overall this place is Michelin recommended and I think that award is completely justified - it's a gorgeous place for brunch with excellent food and service! I'll come here every time I visit SD, even if just for another guava elderflower mimosa, because it was gorgeous (but so was all the food - and very memorable!). They are famous for their French toast logs and lemon beignets so you should try these too: I got the beignets when I last came and they were excellent as was the hash! The maple bacon donuts and churro donuts were amazing. The chilaquiles had great flavor, but I was a little disappointed because the chips were not crispy. I also asked for fresh jalapeños on top of them and did not receive that. Our server was great and brought me a whole bowl of fresh jalapeños on the side. Prior to bringing them she did question me on whether or not they were included on the chilaquiles. We had a reservation and were seated immediately and the service was super fast. It was oddly cold in the restaurant though. Luckily I brought a jacket to keep me warm. One of my friends arrived before I did and was able to make reservations. I ordered a mocha (light on sweetener) and the squash blossom scramble. It was plated nicely. My eggs arrived poached when I asked for scrambled (they were able to fix it) and here was a bit too much ricotta in my squash for my taste. Both my friends enjoyed their meal and would return again. Absolutely AMAZING experience from start to finish! The food was amazing. We ordered the Fruity Pebbles pancakes and they were not only super fun but insanely delicious -- fluffy, perfectly sweet, and loaded with toppings. The savory dish was just as impressive -- perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and that sauce on top? Chef's kiss. Everything tasted fresh and beautifully plated. But what really made this place stand out was the customer service. The staff was so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. This is our families greatest breakfast/brunch restaurants in San Diego. The food is awesome and the choices are just right. There's something for every palate on the menu. The portions are huge so you have to go hungry or else carry most of your order home . The service is simply awesome and staff are very attentive. Michelin listed, this place has the cafeteria style ambiance which is a bit noisy but tolerable. We tried the more 'exotic' menu items alongside the traditional and have not been disappointed. I came to Great Maple last Friday for a baby sprinkle breakfast my amazing team threw for me. I was genuinely excited, this is a spot I had picked myself because I remember loving the food from a previous visit. As someone currently dealing with hyperemesis gravidarum, it's rare that I actually look forward to a meal, but I was really hopeful. Unfortunately, the experience fell short. I ordered the French Dip Trio because I remembered how delicious it was, and the fries were practically calling my name. But this time, everything was off. The bread was so stale it was difficult to eat, the meat was tough and chewy, and to top it off, the entire dish arrived cold. An excellent experience on Black Friday! Evelyn was our server. She carefully timed our ordering, made sure our food was right, and frequently checked in with us. She was such a welcoming server that I'll ask for her again in the future. As expected, the food was superb. The coffee was delicious and several sugar options were offered. I was content with just the sugar/cinnamon doughnut but if you wanted to sail off the cliff of decadence, you can dip each bite into a ramekin of chocolate. We were hesitant about the bacon on top of the doughnuts and she offered to put it on the side for us. The donuts were heavenly. They are moist and soft. We also got the great Maple scramble. I am a sucker for attentive and caring service. She offered assistance since this was our first service and we both ordered our plate quite quickly. My husband and daughter are a big maple fans so we decided to try this place. When we came they asked if we had reservations. I didn't even realize they took breakfast reservations. The portions are generous so it was fun to see plates go by and ooooihg and awwwing . I got the coffee. My cup was given to me with red lipstick on the rim. I asked the waiter for a clean cup and he blamed women that wear stronger lipstick these days instead of just apologizing. He did give me a new cup fairly quickly but honestly I think it could have been handled better. All in all he was a good waiter and that was the only complaint I had. He was attentive and friendly the rest of the time. The coffee tasted dark and intense which I love that. We started off with the homemade maple bacon donuts. They were drizzled with maple. It was sprinkled with crispy bacon pieces. Oh man they were served warm too and sooo ooey gooey and messy. I would definitely get those again. I got the Two Egg Breakfast. We ordered the bacon donuts, french toast logs, BLT with truffle fries, and the chilaquiles. I recommend only getting the donuts if you have ppl to share with because they are MASSIVE and very sweet so a little goes a long way. Overall we enjoyed all of our food. Chilaquiles had great flavor and the chips were crispy enough to hold up to the sauce. I recommend getting syrup on side of french toast logs since they're so large you don't want your leftovers soggy. Ultimately the food was yummy & we'd come back again. The only downside was the service. Once we got our food our waitress never checked back in with us. No drink refills, how is your food, can I get you anything, do you need boxes etc. it's quite disappointing when you have to ask someone else for a box and then an additional person to find your waitress to then wait even longer just to get your check. The follow through with the wait staff could've really elevated the experience. Our server greeted us quickly, and I ordered the maple bacon donuts for the table. My friends tried the Bloody Mary and the caramel mocha, while I stuck with water. The donuts were good but a bit thick and doughy, which made them feel a little dry. I would have liked them to be sweeter, but I do have a major sweet tooth, so maybe that's just me. My friends enjoyed their drinks as well. I tried them both and agreed though I'm not a fan of Bloody Mary's. For my meal, I went with the BBQ pork belly. I was torn between a few options, but the server helped me decide, and I was not disappointed! The pork belly was incredibly tender--melt-in-your-mouth good. The flavor was bursting with rich bacon taste, perfectly complemented by the BBQ sauce. I didn't want the dish to end! The potatoes were crispy, just how I like them, and well-seasoned, and the eggs added a nice protein boost to the meal.
