Great Steak and Potato Company holds a special spot in my stomach's heart. It used to be located in a mall I used to work at when I was right out of high school. Every pay day, I would treat myself to a combo: a coke, great steak and side of fries. It was just far to expensive to have otherwise. You would pay for your order and I remember them cooking the preportioned meat on a large, round plancha. Sorry, I only know what it's called in Spanish. What happens when you're raised 10 min from Mexico ;) They had inside and outdoor seating available. Can be a bit snug around dinner times with large families dining in. If you opt for outdoor, there are one or two tables infront and a few more on the side. If you eat outside just know the dumpsters are there. So maybe sit furthest away if it's possible. Recently found out, they've been phased out of malls but there is one in So Cal located in Torrance and I had to re-live this experience from my college days. Back then, the sign was a neon pink/red and greenish lighting. Looks like they've updated their logo as well as their menu. They still cook the meat on that plancha though! :D The food tastes just as good as I remembered it! I tried the Chicagoland cheesesteak, king fries and their baked potato. Chicagoland cheesesteak - Provolone, white American & Philly cheese, grilled onions, green peppers & mushrooms. Amazingly delicious as the large is really worth it! Meat is full of flavor and I absolutely love that traditional Philly cheese! King fries - Thicker fries with slight crisp covered in Philly cheese, bacon, sour cream and chives. Like In n out's older, cooler cousin from Chicago that's seen some sh&#. Delish! King Baked potato - Hey I just love my potatoes. Topped with sour cream, cheese, bacon, chives and buttery to perfection. The skin had the texture of potato skins and was yummy! I did have a minute to talk to the lady infront who said they were the only location that was able to survive quarantine. I hope this place is here to stay. Tried out their large Signature Steak Philly with cheese sauce and grilled onions. First impression was not too good. A bit small for it being their "large". I assumed quality over quantity but unfortunately upon first bite the "signature steak" had an odd taste. Almost like how you deep fry different food into the same cooking oil. Man.. I'm writing this review because of a disappointed lunch. I've been coming here for years. Even after moving to a little farther city, I still make a trip to eat here. Maybe they are cutting cost or ownership change but the sandwiches are not as good. This is recent too from me posting. I must have been back a few months ago and it wasn't like this 1. The bread for their sandwich has changed. They used to use a solid roll. Now the roll they use has the sprinkle flour or stuff on the bottom. 2. The fries are now frozen section fries. They used to use the fries that were cut with skin on. These are lackluster and generic. They don't put on seasoning salt anymore. 3. I picked up for my family - they didn't put mayo or grilled onions on one of my sandwich. The sandwiches that did have them only had a tiny bit of onions and mayo. Through my teens, I was an ardent supporter of Big Mike's Philly Cheesesteak in Hermosa before it closed down, and stopped going entirely because the Redondo location just stopped being good after a while. I haven't been able to find a good place to get a Philly cheesesteak since, and my husband has been craving them for days, so we decided to order takeout from here. I've gotta say--this is a damn good Philly cheesesteak. I got mine Chicago style while he got his plain, and we both got a side order of the cheese fries. I do wish they went a bit heavier on the bell pepper and mushrooms but I can just ask for extra next time, that's more personal preference than anything. The bread didn't get soggy or anything between the time it took to pick it up and drive it home like a lot of places do, the fries weren't exactly crispy but they weren't limp or gross and had a very good flavor even without the cheese. Just the basics, meat, grilled onions and cheese wiz. I asked for a side of shreeded lettuce to top it with. The bread was a little dry, ask for mayo. They have ketchup and spicy mustard available on the counter. The small king fries was plenty for 2. Super crispy cut potatoes overloaded with sour cream, bacon and cheese. Super tastey, but a little to much sour cream. Service was fast and friendly. Cashier confirmed everything that was on my Philly. So zero surprises. I like that.
