Let me start off by explaining that I am a regular. I was won over by this great resturant becuase they absolutely crushed anywhere else when it comes to Panang Curry. I have meandered into other dishes on there menu with great satisfaction, but you always come back to your first love. Although I mostly carry out, I have many times experienced there resturant. It is, like its Chinese neighbors to the west(Plum Garden), a wonderful place to dine in. The atmosphere is great, the wait staff is competent, and they make some wicked strange smoothie type drinks to completement your meal, or leave you confused... are those tapioca beads or peas? We come here every couple of months from the Algonquin area. This is real good, authentic Thai food and worth the trip. The food is always good and you get plenty to eat. I have tried a number of their items and have not been disappointed yet. The staff is young but they do a great job! read more

Work friends and I celebrated a co-workers birthday by ordering lunch, we had 18 orders, I just printed up one of the many menus online. I got orders, collected money, and faxed it in. He called back with a price as i asked for, it differed significantly. As the prices online didnt match the prices she charged. When I talked t the owner, i asked if she would honor the difference, she said no. Its not their web site, when I asked about all the other web sites she said her site is down, she isnt resposible o update the others, then how do you get the correct pricing. I asked is it possible for a Hospital Discount as, after all this, not only was it going to be much later, its much more expensive than I collected, That was $50 outa my pocket, and they wouldnt budge. Absolutely NOTHING to complain about. As far as Thai food goes this is authentic and beyond delectable! I have enjoyed Thai food a majority of my life due to having a parent who is a chef and always wanted her children to experience new things. I have eaten Thai food in over 10 states within the US and when I lived in California I was extremely surprised by the amount of true Thai, Hawaiian, Japanese and Mexican Restaurants that existed out that way, it also changed my opinion of each extremely because I grew up in Wisconsin and Illinois for most of my youth. This establishment holds true not only to flavor but the craft and extremely fresh ingredients and spices. If I had to have a "complaint" it would be that they seem to fry their tofu even in the pad see ew, which seems wrong, but that's only because I've never had it prepared that way. HOWEVER!!! I am 100% sure if asked they would not do so if you prefer otherwise; I say that because when I lived in Cali there was a Thai dish I have not had since living there and when I told them about it they transformed their curry fried rice to match it almost identically by adding chicken, cashews, plumped raisins and pineapple! Amazing I moved here a month ago and have been pleasantly surprised by the area's culinary culture and this exquisite restaurant will have my business as long as their doors stay open! read more

Went there last night for the first time. I ordered a dish with shrimp. It came without shrimp. When I pointed it out to the server she took my plate and once out of eyesight I'm sure she threw my plate. I heard it crash on the floor. Our server never appeared again. Loves this place! Food is excellent and service is great! I love Thai food, love making it at home, but it's nice to be treated at a restaurant and there are not many Thai places around. I love sitting on the front porch of this restaurant, the only complaint I have is that the seats are uncomfortable outside. Inside is great, nice light airy decor, simple yet stunning! BTW... why do people have to qualify themselves first with statements like "I used to live in the city...", "I am a foodie...", etc etc etc. I think people from the McHenry county area can be just as good at judging food than the rest of the world. So the four stars is split. I'd give them three, my wife would give them five. They've got some pretty tasty food, I'll admit, but they couldn't do spicy if it killed them and that's a prereq for Thai in my book (and the only reason for a three star instead of a four from me). As far as my wife, she loves the green peas noodle and green peas fried rice. I agree that they are very tasty. Wash them down with a bubble tea and she's happy for the rest of the night. And really, it's McHenry, you can certainly do worse. read more

Food was cold and not very good but the appetizers were just ok...parking is awful. The wait staff is slow and not very attentive. They have their kids at work there with them. Although they were quite and respectful, I felt sorry for the kids being stuck there. :( I would suggest to go elsewhere read more

Every dish I have had here has been wonderful. The atmosphere is nice, they have an extensive drink menu, and service is always prompt.

McHenry doesn't hold a lot of culinary wonders and a lot of the restaurants are either chains or kind of divey. I was shocked when I walked in to see how pretty this place was. This will be short and sweet: I got take-out tofu pad thai and it was delicious. I will be back and I will eat much, much more. read more

The last few times I ate there I got sick. A few months ago I ordered the beef lard nar. I asked if it could be made gluten free and they said yes. A few weeks later I went again and ordered beef lard nar again and requested it gluten free. The waitress told me it wasn't gluten free and could not be made gluten free. When I went to Thailand I craved Green Peapod, friendly staff, local place, delicious food that's usually enough for two meals :)

The Thai custard dessert is comfort food. Tastes like warm cinnamon bread pudding but with comfort of a warm pudding. I loved every bite. The sampler appetitizer is a pretty good assortment that was enough for 2. I ordered the green apple salad w/cashews - interesting cut green apples looked like ripple cut (uncooked) french fries. It was too tart for me but I have a health issue where my taste buds can't handle tartness or spiciness too much. My husband was fine w/the tartness. I cut the tartness w/dabs of their peanut sauce.... which btw great peanut sauce! Husband had a cup of the Tom Yum soup which was in a small bowl about 2 cup size. No complaints from us! I tried a couple spoons full of the soup & found it not as hot spicy as I expected. Very tasty in fact. But further spoon fulls the taste became spicy hotter as the spice was stirred up from the bottom more. Husband was happy w/hotness but my body can't... even when the spirit is willing. Wait staff friendly enough but a slow at refilling our iced teas. Wait staff could learn more serving attention details as we could've used a spoon for the dip/sauces in the sampler appetizer plate. read more

Food wasn't that great... We had the Teriyaki Salmon, Fried jumbo shrimp, and calamari. I wasn't impressed with anything and no one in our large group said their meal was that great. The service was also horrible... After everyone in our group of nine got our food the waitress came out and said they accidentally made an extra teriyaki salmon if anyone wanted it... Not wanting it to go to waste (and not wanting to pass up free food) I volunteered to take it and we ended up splitting it between the table. When I got the bill, however, the waitress charged me for the extra salmon. I talked to her about it and explained why I would assume it was free because it was an accident on their part. All she would say is "I'm sorry you have to pay for it". I spoke to the manager and she still wouldn't take it off the bill after I explained how that doesn't make sense she was very stubborn and I got really frustrated but didn't make a scene. I'll never be back, working in the food industry for many years now I've grown to know that the customer is always right... Especially in a situation like this. read more

The food may be acceptable but they are just RUDE! Do not mind at all waiting for a seat when they are busy but do not enjoy standing while tables are available because they have children of maybe 6 years old helping to set tables. After being seated we waited forever for our drinks that were not served to us but sat on the bar while our waitress ran around chittering about. She would smile and say they were coming as she ran by but we could see them. Never received our drinks or food and we gave up and left. Again I understand busy but professionalism - this is a restaurant and this is what they do. This was not their first day of business. We were disappointed and after at least an hour of run around with no food, we came home hungry and annoyed. I do not see us going back. read more

If based solely on the food this is a 5 star restaurant. Unfortunately we dined in and had to deal with the owners children running around the restaurant the entire time. There is actually Thai food in Wisconsin?!?! Ok McHenry locals dont get offended, but you guys are really close to the border! :) I was actually surprised to find a Thai joint when I was visiting a friend out here. I was really excited thinking I might have found a diamond in a piece of cheese out here. Haha..I know kinda Cheezy! LOL Watch out im on a roll! Anyways, ordered take out here since it was almost time to close. Ordered the Pad See Ew w/ chicken and asked for it to be spicy. Had to make my meal exciting bc we all know PSE never has a kick! Well I was very happy to see when I opened my to go container is that they either used a crushed red pepper or a chili paste to give it the heat. I felt generous so thats why they got a 4 or I would have given a 3.5 if it was possible. But some Thai places just try to use fresh jalepenos which tends to overpower the flavor of the food, also feel that is the cheaper route. I do have to say this place definitely beat the standards that I put it at. Its not very often that I joureny out to McHenry but if I do I would def come here again for some decent Thai food. I was able to get dinner (last night) and lunch (today) out of this one meal. read more
