I was in the theatre district this past weekend and popped in for dinner before a show. I used to work in this area and -- not that Green Symphony is a destination or anything -- but I realized that I really missed having this place nearby. A perfect little work day lunch place, Green Symphony has a great (mostly-veg) hot and cold salad bar, a juice bar, pre-made sandwiches and baked goods, and a few menu items that you can order at the front counter. Everything has an organic/health-food/veggie slant with some nice Korean/pan-Asian touches. I love my greens, so I usually go straight to the salad bar where they either have nicely seasoned braised collards or kale, some kind of Indian-inspired dish, and some kind of Mexican-inspired dish. There are meat options in there so be careful -- mostly chicken, tuna, and turkey for those flexitarians out there. In terms of salads, I really like the Asian tofu salad (with shiitakes and peas), the roasted corn salad, and the beets. The veg bi-bim-bop is also pretty good, although more health-food-ish than authentic Korean-ish. read more

Stopped here before a Broadway show. It's a small hole-in-the-wall convenience store that has a restaurant as well. They have a small buffet of Indian foods (mainly) in the back as well as wraps, sandwiches, salads, and smoothies. Fantastic place for vegetarians and anyone that would like to get away from the crowds. There is limited seating, maybe 6 tables, but it's worth it. I wanted to like this place but don't think I'll be going back. It is buffet style (hot and cold lunch), salad bar, and cafe. There's a lot going on so you definitely need to know what you came in for. I got a mix of the hot buffet but with so many options you don't know what to get! The masala vegetables I tried were pretty good but several raw, healthy verge options to top off my meal. I also picked up a sweet treat at the end by the counter. The banana bread was average- nothing great. The total for both of those ran me over $13. For an assortment of lunch food it's slightly on the pricey side. Maybe this style of restaurant isn't my thing since I can't really put together what I want from a buffet if I'm paying by weight. Everything looked yummy- but I would suggest sticking to 1 or 2 dishes in the buffet line. read more

While Green Symphony is by no means a place I'd recommend out of town visitors to stop it, it's a major staple for the vegetarian, vegan and health-conscious eaters who work around Times Square. They have a few vegan-options in their bakery case, including freshly made muffins and a devine pear-ginger bar. The soups are excellent, and very well priced for how much you get, and the contents. The salad bar is the highlight of the whole place, a rotating cast of hot items like somasas, indian curries, steamed vegetables, enchiladas, and baked fish. The cold items like the roasted corn or chickpeas are so delicious, I've tried to recreate it at home and can't get it right. There are dozens of vegan friendly salads all of which have the ingredients clearly listed. GS also carries ABC cookies, Luna Bars, soy crisps, soy and dairy yogurts, and about a thousand different kinds of beverages - not to mention their made to order smoothies and juices. read more

Oh! Green Symph how we love thee. This place is IT when it comes to needing a healthier and vegetarian option in the Times Square area. When we discovered it 2 years ago we were obsessed with their Rainforest smoothie... it is summer in your mouth, and as much as we have tried to mix such simple ingredients at home it never comes out as delicious as theirs. Rice bowls are a hit and we highly recommend pairing it with their spicy sauce. The health salad goes well with the cucumber dressing and their chocolate banana cake is smooth and filling and you can check your guilt at the door because it doesn't have anything bad in it. One of our latest obsessions is the Nut and Honey smoothie, think of a milkshake but actually good for you! Yum, yum. read more

Ah I discovered this lunch place today! Love their veggie , vegan healthy options.With few healthy restaurants around time square this is one of the best. They have wrap and sandwiches which are not displayed on the board but do ask for their menu.Their smoothies choices are interesting, they even have non-dairy smoothie(yay!) Only downside is the place looks little run down (like the local cheap deli's that you often see in new york) but the food tastes good. So you work in Times Square. There are walls of tourists everywhere. You want to get lunch but you can't frickin handle marching at 1 mile an hour in a sea of tourists who REFUSE TO LOOK WHERE THEY'RE GOING just to get falafel from a food truck. Fear not, brave soul. I have the solution. Green symphony is great. It's pricey, but not overwhelmingly so. The real selling point is that they have a variety of fresh, delicious, organic food. They have a wonderful hot bar with things like chicken burritos, delicious collards, fish stews. They have a cold bar with wonderful bean salads and stuff. The food is really excellent and delicious. They also have smoothies, juices, gluten free and vegan snacks. The whole shebang. It's on 43rd street close to 8th Ave, so if you can get through the tourist parade on Broadway/7th, you'll be fine. I've never ordered from seamless from here, but I'd recommend going in person and seeing what they have that day. read more

The food I took off the hot/cold bar was delish as always, and then I tried a blueberry dessert and a lowfat apple spelt cake. They weren't too sweet, full of fruit, and oh so yummy. =) =) The staff is always sooo nice and apreciative of my business as well. I was in town for the day and needed a place to grab a healthy and satisfying lunch before a speech. It was so good that I ended up coming back after my speech to grab dinner to eat on the train ride home. The buffet was great. I liked the ability to get hot food and salad. I also ordered an Almond Joy smoothie, which was delicious and so filling that I could have made an entire meal out of it (although then I would have missed the opportunity to eat the yummy buffet food). I have been ordering from Green Symphony for years. They were my go-to as I have some food sensitivities and you can always find something on their menu that tastes good and stay within my food restrictions. The last few times the orders took long to arrive, but always got here within an hour. This time, they just never showed. I placed the order at 11:15 for a 12:30 delivery. When I called to inquire, I was told that the order had been delivered and signed for already. Nothing came. When I asked who signed for it, of course they said I did. The woman on the phone then proceeds to say I am lying about not receiving the food. The driver swore he gave it to me (couldn't describe who he gave it to). After checking with building security and our security cameras (don't appreciate being called a liar) and nothing! So when I called back and let them know that the driver never came here for a fact and that I had security video and the security for the building to verify this fact, the whole store changed. Anyway, suffice to say, I would never order from or set foot in Green Symphony again. But on a side note...kudos to EatStreet for their amazing customer service (they handle the orders through Yelp). read more

I give this place so much money I should just direct deposit my paycheck here. I have the pleasure of working in chain-restaurant-slow-ordering tourist-ridden Times Square, so this place is a godsend. Their menu is simple, but mostly healthy and completely delicious. I've actually been basing my at-home diet with things on their menu and I feel a lot better and more energetic because of cutting out unhealthy carbs and upping my protein levels. My favorite is the Asian bowl, which has brown rice, four egg whites, avocado, onions, tomatoes, and seaweed. Any of the brown rice bowls are excellent, and I think they're worth their price point more than the other items on the menu. The kale salad was great the first time around, but the second time around it tasted terrible, so I wouldn't go for that again. Maybe it wasn't fresh? If you're not feeling any of the menu items, the buffet is a great option. I've never ordered for delivery, so I can't comment on that service. Order ahead on Seamless if you want to use your card and your item will be less than $10. They only let you pay cash for items over $10. I wouldn't recommend ordering your smoothie/juice on it though, because the fruit and ice will be separated by the time you get there. There's not much seating available, so it's best to grab your food and go. Also, in case you're into this kind of thing, I see TONS of celebrities here. I'm assuming because it's the only health-conscious non-chain food area. Obviously most of them are from the Broadway community, but a decent amount of actors that are not only on the Great White Way, but also on TV and film. read more

I've been off of red meat for a while and lunches have gotten a bit to boring in Hell's Kitchen. That is why I have made Green Symphony a staple in my weekly lunch routine. They have some tasty buffet items to choose from. I love the fusion of foods they have to offer. Also be sure to ask for a menu, which has dishes you can order which aren't really advertised anywhere else in the eatery. I love the Tofu B-Bap. I always ask for an extra spicy sauce with my order! Healthy, delicous, food with boundless options. I only recently learned about their menu with rice bowls, sandwiches, etc. The firendliest staff in NYC. I'm always amazed at how many options they cram into the tiny mid-town shop. I purchased a Groupon for this tiny little place. What a great find. Today, I had The New Yorker. A great meal...fresh, and A lot of food. As you can see from the pics, they are generous with the chicken. The plate also has 4 full sized dumplings, brown rice, and alot fresh veggies. The dressing is sesame ginger, and very good! I have not yet tried a smoothie yet, but, I look forward to it. They also have a buffet area (pay per weight). The place is busy for a small shop. There are a few tables in the front. I received some of the worst service of my life here. I had a simple question about the açai bowls, and was simply told the menu is "over there" as she pointed to a nondescript location on the other side of the restaurant. No one was behind me in line at the time. When I looked over the menu and didn't find the answer to my question, I returned to her for clarification, and she simply said "I told you the menu is over there! Next!" Green Symphony feels like an even mixture of hipster and Asian market. It's kind of cramped, but it has an outside-y kind of feel (I guess that's an oxymoron...) with chalkboard menus and wood paneling everywhere. So, this is a great little place for vegetarians to get their fix (the little man behind the counter was pushing me to "get more green"). My roommate and I got the buffet, which was actually very good; cold pasta/rice/vegetable salads and random hot dishes like samosas and enchiladas. With all of the options available I was surprised that each dish I tried was well put together, dimensional, and had unique taste (rather than everything being made with the same flavors). We also got smoothies, which were a little thin and also a little expensive, but you can't expect much more when they're replacing yogurt or ice cream with soy milk. Regardless, the flavor was spot on; not lacking in that department at all. You could definitely tell that everything was very healthy, but not in a tastes-like-cardboard kind of way. read more

Cramped and busy in here, but the food is fresh and super healthy. When I eat from the buffet, I can taste the quality. Lots of organic, vegan, and gluten free choices. They make this egg bake with chicken sausage its quite good. Cold bar is very nice as well. I can;t help but get lunch here at least once a week :) Not many good lunch choices in Times Square outside chains. The only competitor would be Whole Foods (there isn't one close to T.SQ). Food here is wholesome nutritious and good for you! If you want a lunch that will make you feel good for the rest of the day, go to green symphony. This was a good and quirky spot, I even met a friend just chatting in the cafe. I love the large variety of food and healthy options and they are very well priced. I got the turkey with apple and cheese in a whole wheat wrap (it was called delicious something) as well as a ginger snap smoothie. Both were filling and hit the spot. I was extremely pleased with the price point given the location. My only issue was that the cafe, eat-in area was extremely small and compact, but in no way is that a deal breaker. 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding it up because it's so hard to find healthy meals in the Times Square vicinity. Yea, with $10 in your hand, you can feed a family of 4 at the hot dog stand, get an overpriced salad bowl at the "thou-shall-not-be-named" chains, or yes, the ubiquitous falafel carts around the city nowadays. But when you want your body to feel fresh and not heavy weighed by excess oil and fat, yet still maintain some change in the wallet, well, the options are quite limited in this part of Manhattan. Now, the food here isn't cheap per se. A Synergy bottle would cost you a whopping $3.50! But I crave for a green juice nowadays. It makes me feel healthy and refreshed and to fix off any germs floating around in my office. So I got 4 ingredients for $4.95 plus tax. There are other drink varieties too, so it's all in your imagination. With my recent addiction to juicing, I really should get one at Macy's as a long term investion. PS didn't try the hot buffets, but I liked that they labelled all the ingredients for each item. read more

Right in Midtown Manhattan you can find a gem. If you're a vegetarian, vegan, or just want some healthy options this hole in the wall has food for any omnivore. It has quite the juice and smoothie list. I had a juice and it blew my mind! There's a self-serve hot bar and they can also make salads to order for you, too. Want meat? They have organic cage-free chicken sandwiches. The best news: It's VERY affordable for the type of fare you are purchasing. Why only 4 stars? I wasn't keen on the dessert I tried at all (some sort of chocolate brownie/bar that was dairy-free). It also has very little seating and quarters are a bit cramped. read more
