Three and a half stars. Next door to Chipotle is my current haven from the long line at TCB. Friendly baristas and equally staffed to cover the afternoon caffeine crash in their slightly less cramped space. With their setup, you get to experience the zen of watching coffee made with care. Man, all the pastries were indulgence-sized! Didn't care for the seasonal My Cousin Vinny, but the Honey Badger hit the spot. Looking forward to trying their Golden Mylk, acai bowl, hipster toasts, and smoothies. read more

So I downloaded the app and got $5 free. The barista recommended one of the Aeropress coffees. I was a little skeptical because I do not like being overcharge for fake quality. I got the Nyeri Coffee after three of the baristas recommended it. It takes about four minutes to make as they use a special process with a press. As I said earlier I was suspect. I use to making coffee at home. At first sip, I was like DAMMIT they got me. This is just hype! I was ready to put my cream and sugar like I usually do. But I let the coffee cool and the second sip was significantly better. I would recommend trying it if you love coffee. The place also is great place to work as they have great lighting. When I heard that a Gregory's was opening up just a few blocks from my office, I couldn't be more stoked - the local Peets and Starbucks are fine for coffee runs, but sometimes I want to branch out for my mid-week iced coffee fix. And while the coffee itself was decent, unfortunately Gregory's didn't meet the hype. Interesting menu with a lot of unique choices (in everything from avocado toasts to munch on, to fruity aeropress coffees) but Gregory's is on the higher end of the spectrum price-wise, even for downtown DC coffee. With a small almond milk cappuccino I paid almost $5 pre-tip, just to finish it in a few gulps. And while the drink itself was creamy, I don't think it justifies the higher price tag. The space itself is well decorated and modern - but very tiny; almost like stepping into a walk-in closet to purchase your drink. All in all, 3 1/2 stars; while I wouldn't be opposed to going back to Gregory's, I don't think I'll being going out of my way to make this my new go-to coffee spot. read more

My very first visit today was a pleasant experience. I walked in to see a showcase full of desserts and a (Black) woman behind the counter with the best attitude. I took the last blueberry muffin. She stated she baked them earlier and went on to point to the oven, pans, etc. Her customer service skills were 100% from the time I entered, until the transaction ended. That means a lot when prices are through the roof for consumers with everything and we might think twice about spending on things we don't necessarily need. KuDos to you young lady!!! read more

One of my coworkers wanted to come to Gregorys Coffee for a quick coffee run. While the decor is really cute, the chai tea latte wasn't anything special. I felt as though the chai was really bland, and the barista didn't fill my cup up. I don't need my cup to be filled to the brim, but the chai was so airy, that I felt like I was only able to have 3 sips before I finished my drink. I don't necessarily understand the hype of it right now. Maybe I just had a "meh" experience, because I didn't necessarily feel as though the person taking my order was all that friendly (he almost sounded annoyed and didn't seem to have amazing interpersonal skills). I felt like I was overcharged for my small drink, so I definitely don't know if I'll go out of my way to come back here. Might give it a second chance though, because I AM a firm believer in second chances....but right now, I'm giving this place a 2/5 star for general decor/ambiance. read more

I briefly got coffee and tea with a colleague here. First of all, it's downtown and tiiiny. Not a place to sit and chat. The menu is pretty vast with some healthy breakfast options (avocado toast variations, acai bowls) and interesting coffee flavors. I like the variety of milk alternatives even the vegan 'mylk' they offer as well. It's a pleasant place to be with great decorations and atmosphere; it has that hipster modern vibe that isnt trying too hard. I ordered the 'my cousin vinny' basically a black tea with allspice, cardamom, cinammon, honey and lemon. Had all my favorite things in it, but when I tasted it, was lacking in all flavors and tasted like a hot sugary tea. Not what I wanted. My colleague got the 'hot in here' espresso coffee with habanero, sugar, and chocolate and he echoed my comment on every thing being too sweet. It's a shame because they have interesting flavor combinations, if they just intensified them over the sugar instead. I would still come back and try something else here. It has a nice vibe and good options for downtown. Standard beougie coffee prices but again it's Gregory's in downtown so not unexpected and not all of it is obscenely expensive but reasonable for the area. read more

Service with a smile! I'm new to the DMV so I'm just starting my morning routines. I try to do breakfast and coffee at home, but end up hitting Gregory's once or twice a week. Everyone there is so nice and gives great suggestions based on what I need to start my day. Sometimes I go if my morning is a little off because they give me the pick-me-up I need. They have a great selection of fantastic tasting coffees, pastries, sandwiches, smoothies, and teas. And they have donut holes! And they are super quick, which is key for any morning ritual. This is a daily stop for me and my café crew. The baristas are what make this a highlight of the day with the added bonus of the café! I have tried multiple items on the menu, but my usual is a basic B medium latte. And surprise, the baristas KNOW IT! :) But what brought me to Yelp to express this is that I witnessed Michiko G. on 7/2/19...and given her demure I sensed a review was coming. I was right. I had already received my coffee and was waiting for the others. Michiko G. pumped her self up validating her complaint to her friend as they added sugar/cream etc. to their respective "mobile" orders. Note mobile order. They left the store, and in a dramatic fashion reentered the facility holding up her "Hall and Oats" mobile order complaining that it separated and was chunky and aggressively asking them to throw it away for her. The manager then apologized multiple times and asked if she would like something else. She hesitated for a moment but refused the offer and left the store. I then ever so discreetly leaned over to check the order on her cup now trashed to see what chunky milk she ordered, well what I noticed it that she ordered it at 10:15 and time at this point was 10:32 so she was a little late on the pick up. She could've had a new Gregory's café delight to enjoy but instead she insisted on "making her point". Sadly YELP can be used a portal for those who need to feel some power. The lady cashier was kind, but the others seem to give her attitude when she told them I wanted the hot sauce on the side for my vegan scramble sandwich. The avocado toast isn't fresh. You can tell the avocado was from a package it wasn't freshly mashed. Blue bottle around the corner has better tasting and looking avocado toast. I expected there to be a shake or 2 of red pepper flakes but the whole toast was covered in them. Also one of the managers was on the phone reporting an employee for not showing up to work and having attitude while sitting at a table right next to me. I had a medium ice latte. On my way over to this place I passed a Starbucks and felt a temptation to just stop there to get coffee since it was a sweltering morning and I needed coffee so bad. This place serves overpriced coffee. On top of the thief's ransom that they charge for a drip coffee, the creamer that they offered was disgusting. I wish I would not have checked out the great website of this chain before I went to the physical location, because based on it I really expected what they pride themselves on - specialty coffee and outstanding service. The service was outstandingly bad and the coffee knowledge was anything but special. Service: There were three Baristas behind the counter, and no one acknowledged me for a good three minutes. So I took action and asked the lady at the register for her opinion on a Single Origin Colombian Coffee. She couldn't give me one beyond saying it's good. One should hope so. I ordered it on Aero Press along with a slice of carrot cake. The young Barista who then made the Aero Press had a fantastic attitude however, and he is the only reason for the three stars. He was clearly not trained well, based on his answer to a customer's question as to how the Aero Press works, nor was there any timing, consistency or proper technique visible in the two coffees he made before mine - but that is not his fault, it's the companie's. This guy engaged with customers, juggled three orders, even ran over to the register in between, ringing up another customer who was steadfastly ignored by the other staff. He had to ask his colleages three times to prep that customer's Latte, while they were busy joking around and texting. Absolutely awful customer service. Product: Despite the poor execution of that Aero Press, the coffee came out pretty ok. Underextracted and a bit weak, but it was apparent that the coffee could be quite good if treated better. Really liked the cake, moist and a big slice for the price point. They sell some of those popular wellness Lattes, but in a weird way. Instead of using real golden milk there were some spice ingredients mixed into Almond Milk, as was activated charcoal for the black milk, all mixed into Almond Milk, felt kind of like a fake, so I didn't spend money on those. They roast their own coffee, it has a best before date, instead of a roast date, indicating they Nitro flush their beans to make them shelf stable. Not a fan of that for specialty coffee, but I'm big on small batch quality roasting, not everyone will mind that. Interior: Cheapish chain like set up with a menu board that had already started to ripple after the short time they're open. Way too much merch on display for my taste, hats, mugs, shirts etc. it produces the feeling of a fan shop. Also randomly placed Growlers for Coldbrew everywhere, just overall not a cool set up. Seating is uncomfortable, but it's downtown, you don't really hang out anyway. They did close 90 min. earlier than advertised on their google biz site. read more

Love Gregory's coffee! Thank god for this New York coffee spot finally in DC. I love the selection of coffee styles (aero press and more). It's also nice that you can sit down and have coffee in a mug. It makes you feel like you are back in Europe. Also, they always have a free sample in the front with a huge selection, vegan and all of food and snacks. You can also get house made mylks and smoothies as well. It's a healthy and hip coffee spot. My coworkers and I were excited to hear that Gregorys was coming to town, but we've quickly realized that it's not all it's cracked up to be. Maybe it's because this location is still relatively new, but it really doesn't seem that we're receiving the true Gregorys experience. I waited until my second visit to write this review in an effort to give them a second chance. The good: The coffee and chai latte are decent, but not amazing and at this point in time I wouldn't choose Gregorys over any of their competition. Needs some work: The staff seems pretentious and moody...smiling and being a little friendly go a long way in this industry. So unless the experience you're selling is too cool to have customers, your employees should work on their customer service, there's tons of competition in this area. The bad: This location doesn't seem to be true Gregorys. There are things on the menu like the charcoal latte that this location doesn't offer and when there's an Instagram post about using a keyword to get something, they have no idea what you're talking about. Here's where good customer service is key...instead of offering suggestions or saying sorry we don't honor Instagram discounts at this location, there's more of a keep it moving tone and behavior. read more

I was skeptical when I saw a new coffee chain coming in near my work. I'm definitely a local coffee house kind of person. I am pretty picky about my espresso, and I won't even go to a coffee shop that doesnt have oat milk (no point paying for the grossness of almond or soy milk). All that said, I LOVE this coffee shop and in particular this location. The staff are great and consistently pull really good, smooth shots of espresso. I love the hall and oats, but I usually get an iced latte or mocha. They also have great gluten-free and vegan food options. The app is also easy to use and has good rewards. PS, they also have a pumpkin spice latte for the fall that is delicious. Highly recommend - SO much better than Starbucks! read more

Finally! A fantastic new Gregory's coffee location amidst the million Starbuckeses near Thomas Circle. The staff is super friendly, the location is sunny and warm, and the coffee is amazingly high quality. Thank you Gregory for maintaining high standards even after expanding. Today was the first day of business, and I've already been twice. First, I tried the soy cappuccino. Full of flavorful, high quality soymilk that was smooth but not overpowering, and espresso that blended well. My second visit today was after lunch and I was blown away by the drip coffee, which in my opinion, is sometimes even trickier than an espresso based drink because it can easily reveal flaws. However, the drip was WONDERFUL. Really mellow and chocolatty and didn't even require milk/sugar to taste great. read more

Ordered a beverage and the milk was chunky. When I mentioned this to the staff the only response was because it was sitting for a while. I ordered on the app and showed up within 5 minutes. I'm currently sitting here as the only customer, and the barista has been nothing but rude. I was excited to try it out because of the positive reviews, and so when I came in, I said, "Hey how's it going! This is my first time here. Can I get an iced latte with vanilla?" She rolled her eyes and sighed and asked me what size. I'd wanted to get some work done, but all the tables were scooted in, so I asked if indoor seating was closed. She said something like, "No, I guess you can sit inside." I put my AirPods in and was minding my own business, assuming she had a bad day or something. Then someone else walked in (I think works nearby), and the barista started ranting about how she's stuck in here with one customer in the lobby and can't believe he (me) ordered an iced latte like it's Starbucks. She was so loud, I could hear her over the noise canceling on my AirPods. She kept going, "I'm the only one here. What am I supposed to do if I need to go to the bathroom? Leave my purse out?" Needless to say, I will never be back and will probably never go to another Gregory's because of this experience. I don't recommend this place. read more

I've tried all of the buzzed-about new coffee places and Gregorys is the only one that I keep coming back to day after day. It's a great place to hang out and the baristas are so friendly. They go out of their way to make you feel special and welcome, and it's quiet enough for reading and working. Best coffee shop in the area! Their custom service is the best I've experienced in the city. In just a matter of going periodically over a couple weeks, the staff has remembered my order and name. Never a long wait even when it is peak hours. Their menu is diverse, fun, and healthy. I'm especially a fan of their oat milk latte and their wide range of power breakfast cups. If you are looking to treat yourself, their pastries and sweets are legit. Plus, their prices are fair for the quality and consistency you are getting. read more
