My mom and I were staying with my brother in Allentown for 3 days and I found Griddle 145 on Yelp. After reading some good reviews we decided to check it out for ourselves. And ended up eating there the next 3 days in a row! This place is small and doesn't look like much from the outside, but it had a great variety of food, decent prices, and very friendly staff. My only slight question is that while I see a lot of reviews mention free mimosas on Sundays, I do have to note that we didn't receive any. It could be that it was Mothers Day when I was there though and the restaurant was pretty busy, but I did see other people with mimosas on their table. We waited about 30 mins to eat and when we sat down we weren't offered them. I didn't ask because it wasn't super important, but just an observation. read more

Yum yum yum. Had the no huevos rancheros and previouslty the coconut french toast, both of which really hit the spot. We have been here many times and the food is always amazing. There are a lot of creative dishes and always new specials. We have always had good experiences, however, we were surprised at our most recent visit that we received terrible service from our waitress. During the beginning of the meal it was fine. Towards the end, however, she disappeared (sort of). She was just standing behind the bar chatting with other staff. My husband asked for a coffee refill which never came. Fortunately another server got us a refill. After another 5-7 minutes of watching her hang out behind the bar and attempting to get her attention, my husband and I just went to the hostess to get our check and pay. It all looked so delicious, it made it hard to decide. We opted for the Asian Pancakes, the 'Tella Fella Pancake Stack (Nutella, chocolate and banana-yummy!) and the Farmer's Scramble. My husband and I came for our wedding anniversary breakfast after reading so many glowing reviews. Unfortunately we weren't wowed like so many others. We both ordered omelets and short stack pancakes and were surprised to find the pancakes came with those little packets of Smuckers syrup that you get at a hotel breakfast buffet and little packets of butter. You actually have to pay extra to get a quarter cup of real syrup! Anyway, we both liked our omelets (I ordered the rodeo with chorizo and pepper jack cheese), thought the potatoes were underseasoned, and the pancakes were just okay. I also ordered a hot chocolate that tasted like they opened a packet of Swiss Miss. I will say that the menu had lots of yummy sounding options and the French toast that I saw lots of other people order looked amazing. So where do I begin? I have visited the restaurant twice now and I have tried the same breakfast meal twice, the fried chicken hash. On my very first visit, the chicken they served me had blood in it. When I notified the waitress she took the chicken back and got me a new one. When she came back out with it, she told me that what I saw was not blood but was just a vein running through my chicken. If I am not mistaken, blood runs through veins, so I indeed had blood running through my chicken. On my visit today, with two of my friends, I gave the fried chicken hash another chance. Though the food did come out in a timely manner, there was definitely something wrong with my food. After a bite or two of my "chicken" it seemed extremely flaky to me, at which point I noticed what I was eating was actually fish and not chicken. I immediately let me waitress know that there was an issue with the meal and she went back and ordered me another plate. How do you mistake fish for chicken? Are you storing the chicken and the fish in the same container? Which by the way is a huge no-no. Is your cook not educated enough to know the difference between the two? I just don't understand how this mistake happens! Also, both times when my meals were returned my eating utensils were taken from me and I had to wait several minutes before seeing another staff member to ask for new utensils. But here is the kicker, you would think that they would try to let you know that they were sorry for what happened by at least comping the meal or giving some type of gift card. The excuse that I received for not getting my meals comped were that they were not a corporate company and even though they messed up the meal, the remade it and that I was still able to eat! I have never heard of such a thing. When asked how my meal was today, I told them I was completely unsatisfied with their service and that I would not be returning. The gentlemen I spoke to at the front even remembered me from the vein being in my chicken and said there was nothing he could do about that but could not explain the fish dilemma. I ensured him that I would not be returning to the restaurant and he seemed to not have a care in the world. read more

This was our favorite breakfast spot until today. Unfortunately my family and I will no longer be giving them our business. It was a busier day then an average Tuesday,however we were seated right away. Our drinks were brought and we placed our order.. we began getting a lil impatient after 20-25 min, being that people who had arrived after us were already served and finished with their brunch and we had two orders of French toast and eggs Benedict. My husband went over to the hostess inquiring and had been told a couple min. At this point our drinks had been empty and we were getting anxious. After another 10-15 minutes our food arrived. It was on the colder side . When mentioned to the waitress that the potatoes were cold she returned later with fresh ones.. soon after a man came over to the table and said I heard your food is cold and began pointing out that the order had only been placed 23 minutes ago and blamed the waitress. He was arrogant and not accommodating to our needs or concerns. I had to ask him to leave our table because I began feeling uncomfortable,angry,and even as hungry as I was, almost lost my appetite! He didn't offer to warm our food or give us anything complimentary... nor did he apologize! Come to find out later that he was the owner. Completely taken back that someone could be so un professional in the service business! We were even charged for the 2 Nd order of potatoes we were offered. It's such a shame...it's not too often we get to go out as a family and this experience really put a damper on how we view griddle 145.. which once was our favorite spot!!!!!! Absolutely love love love this place! The portions are great, prices are wonderful, and my only complaints are that they need more advertising to get more people to come, and longer hours! I was looking for a good restaurant in the area and came across Griddle 145! I must have passed by here over 100 tines and never noticed it! We ordered the Red velvet & Nutella pancakes & absolutely loved the Nutella pancake, The red velvet icing was delicious, but the pancake itself was a little on the dry side, but a red velvet lover would enjoy this pancake. Thinking about the place now, I'm craving a pancake! Will have to go back soon and try something new, really hope they stay around for a long time. read more

In a multi-ethnic nabe on the border between Allentown and Whitehall/Fullerton, Griddle 145 doesn't really jump out. I had driven past it probably a half-dozen times and never noticed it. But lo and behold...we get another top performer in the breakfast/lunch/brunch department, a niche in the restaurant world that seems to be really trendy these days. And, amazingly, most of them are good! (But then they have to be, to compete with all the others.) From what I've tried, Griddle 145 still takes my top spot in the Lehigh Valley. Beginning with the slap-ya-mammy flavor of some dang strong coffee, I continued with the scallion pancake and the jalapeno grits. While it looked more like a quesadilla than a pancake (or a latke or a crepe), it still had a great little sweet undertone to the mostly savory onion/soy sauce/egg combination. Superlative! The grits weren't the consistency I was expecting, nor were they that spicy, but they were flavorful. The avocado pepper interior has enough of a mid-century mod feel to keep the yuppies coming back, and yuppies often have high standards for their chow. Service was perfectly attentive, and they were apologetic when my meal came out a bit later than everyone else's...which I didn't mind one bit. My group of runners--admitted pretty yuppie as well--all seemed to think it was a success, so now we're just trying to find reason to convince an Easton-based club to come out and run the trails of Allentown again so we can all be justly rewarded with another great meal at Griddle 145! read more
