This place is located inside the Seafood City Supermarket, towards the front but past the fried chicken and bakery place. They had a variety of Filipino food and a few combos that went along with certain entrees. I got the Grilled Pork Value Meal and the grilled pork portion of it was delicious. I believe they were 4 for $10 if you bought them individually and I think I would do that in the future. The value meal was one stick of the pork, with a bunch of rice and a salad that I didn't like for $6.50 or so. I'd rather just get 4 sticks of pork since the other parts of the Value Meal felt like filler and didn't taste all that good. An interesting place to try though I don't know if I'd like anything outside of their grilled items based on what I tasted from the salad and their pork. read more

Upon ordering I was a little disappointed because they had run out of bbq chicken sticks as well as not having any lechón or diniguan. I proceeded to order a two item and 4 bbq pork sticks. The bbq pork was fantastic. It had a nice char with a little bit of fattiness and hint of sweetness. For the Two item combo I had the chicken adobo and the pigs feet. Everything tasted delicious and was tender! Both had great flavors, with a hint of vinegar. The only issue with this was the serving size there were only 2 pieces of pigs feet and about 4-5 small pieces of chicken. Service was okay, not great and not terrible read more

I don't know why everyone is so down about Grill City. I've had food from here on four separate occasions and each time, I was never disappointed. Their grilled skewers are always tasty but the most recent visit I had here, I had purchased breakfast and that really took it to another level for me. Their Silogs are awesome value for money. A mountain of garlic rice, generous heap of meat and two eggs for 5 bucks?! Where do you find a deal like this?! It gets better though: if you buy 3... all 3 silogs are only $12!! At this price and quantity of food, it really shocks me that anyone would buy breakfast from Jollibee ( across the entrance inside the same supermarket ). This is the most convenient location for me to get my Filipino food taste buds satisfied! Let's start with the reasons why it's not a 5-star. The time it takes to order and pay can be unbearably long. At times, the cashier takes a really long time to ring up orders. There are not a lot of entree options when ordering a bbq combo. I wish they had kaldereta, apritada, menudo- just more options. I prefer coming here for breakfast because I think you really get more bang for your buck and the options are not limited. When ordering breakfast, the entrees are mostly 4.99 and comes with 2 scoops of rice (sometimes garlic, sometimes not- it's not the customer's choice) and 2 eggs. What a deal! This one is aiiite. When I'm back in Irvine and I don't feel like trekking all the way out to Cerritos area for our go to Filipino spots, Grill City will do. The rundown on this one: Fast, cheap, convenient. Let's say you're all done shopping in Seafood City & you're hungry? Well Grill City got you covered. For less than $10, you can get a combo meal of plenty of Filipino favorites. It's actually a good amount of food and I did end up having leftovers. Conveniently they serve all food in Togo boxes! So no food ever goes to waste. No such thing as throwing away food in Filipino culture. Also they do cater, which is nice. I'd recommend calling ahead though. I ended up grabbing a couple dozen lumpia from here to bring to the work potluck. Not quite as good as lola's, but heck coworkers still gobbled those up. Anyways, that's all I got on this one. I usually really like little fast food places like this. It's so convenient, so fast, and you get a lot of food for a decent price. However the food I've gotten here only gets 2 stars. My friend really likes coming here for the meat and bbq however I think the meat is really dry and seemed like it had been out for a while. Food just tastes like it's low quality. I had a side of eggplant that looked interesting but it was not cooked properly and had a bunch of raw onion and tomato in it. Positives are that there are lots of options for meat and sides. There's lots of fried tastiest and deserts if you like that sort of thing and it's decently priced for the quantity of food you get. However, I don't think I will be coming back her. read more

Mmm when craving a good Filipino food, you ask for the recommendation of a fellow Filipino. First of all if you're looking for this place, it's located inside the Seafood City food court. You can't miss the smell of grilled food and meat on a stick once you step inside. As I checked out all the items that I wanted to pick from, a few things definitely caught my attention. The chicken bbq, pork bbq and the pork liempo (grilled pork belly) I wanted to try out a bunch of items so decided on the 2 item combo which comes with rice. I had chosen the pork bbq and pork liempo. My friends had orders some chicharones and chicken skin for the table so there was a nice variety of items to chose from. The Pork Liempo was my absolute favorite. I could have had double portion of that and still be happy. Of course you ask every Filipino about this place and their initial response, "doesn't taste like my grandmas." Get over it. Cheap Prices. Big Portions. They give you so much food for cheap. I ordered the GRILLED MIX PLATTER for only $22.95. It came with 2 grilled Tilapia, 3 grilled BBQ skewers and 2 grilled pork belly. El Hubby and I ate it for 2 days. I would've given it 4 starts, but the grilled bbq pork skewers was a tough. I liked the sweet sauce on top, but it was a difficult to chew O_o. On the other hand, grilled Tilapia and the grilled pork belly were good and had a strong char flavor. Next time I want to try their grilled squid and other noodles. Located inside Seafood City Supermarket. It's "turo-turo" style which means you point at what you want from the buffet. Some Yelpers complained how the line moved slow, but I didn't have that problem. The line moved pretty quick and there were 3 staff helping customers. Will I come back? 2.5 stars. This is an over the counter spot inside Seafood City which is a Filipino supermarket. They serve various grilled meats. I ordered the pork lechon which is almost like a filipino version of porchetta. It comes with pork meat and the skin. The lechon meat did not have much of a porky flavor and the skin was tough and chewy. The meat actually did not taste very good. And, overall, the dish was not very good. I also ordered a pork skewer. The pork meat was bland and did not have much of a pork flavor. It was coated with a slightly sweet and slightly sour sauce which was okay. It did have a nice char backnote flavor. Lastly, I ordered a chicken skewer. This was my favorite of three things that I ordered. The chicken meat had a nice chicken flavor and it was fairly moist. The marinade coating sauce also had a slightly sweet and sour backnote of flavor. And, it had a nice char grilled flavor. Was I wowed where I would return? Probably not. read more

If you want authentic Filipino traffic then come to Grill City. That's right I said traffic. They draw you in with the grill in a hood and glass all around, lets you see the chef work his magic. The hood does an ok job, but like all BBQ and caramelizations you'll still smell a little like BBQ while waiting in line. It's not that the line is long, but it's soooooo poorly organized it's straight up shameful. The basis for all the combo's and dishes are rice so you wait for your rice, then your entrée, then your sides, but you can't see the sides because there are 9 other people in front of you still ordering their rice and entrée's. You'll end up skipping people, jumping people and by the time you see the dish you want you've been ordering for 5 minutes. Take a page from somewhere close like Panda and do as they do. I've worked food industry and I've seen other Cafeteria style Filipino places not be run like this. I'm proud to be Filipino, but that doesn't mean I'm proud of other Filipino's. The things I've seen are hard to explain to my co workers when I bring them here. Get a Pork combo with pancit bihon and your good, don't get all crazy with the dishes because even though they are somewhat commercialized there's more guts than you'd like to admit. Just because I like getting dinuguon doesn't mean you should, unless you like it. Even most Filipino's don't eat it. Prices are good, but the skewer rips right through the bag. Some snips when packaging would be great. Service is ok, the efficiency sucks, but the service is ok. Forget ordering drinks, and desserts, your just going to hold up the line. Palabok is a little bland, no lemon. Bihon is good, but oily. Chicken adobo is rich, but without the aromatics and with that the skewer is the afterthought because all Filipino's had meals where all they had was adobo. Squid is good with the sauce. The grilled and stuffed tilapia is ok, but what I really want to see is bangus and lechon. I know the deep fry place is the in the back, but I don't want to go to 2 stations. I'm in real trouble here because this place is half a mile from my office and as much as I like to cook, cook Filipino food, the convenience of here is bad news for my beltline. When I'm in the mood for some simple, cheap Filipino breakfast meals, I go for Grill City's "Silog Almusal Special". Almusal means breakfast. Their specials start at $4 for one plate but you can get three breakfast platters for $11 and that's a bargain. You have a choice of Luncheon meat (Spam), Hamonado or sweet Longanisa, Beef Tapa, Pork or Chicken Tocino, and Baby Bangus. To go with that is two small template eggs and big scoops of garlic rice. Coffee goes with your meal but you get them in Nestle powder pouches. They provide the hot water at the bar to mix and make your own. I'm not a fan of these so I just throw these away, part of the deal is the unlimited coffee. The tastier choices here is the Luncheon Spam, the Longanisa and the Chicken Tocino. These are normally my trifecta of platters to fulfill the deal. These aren't the best, they are basic, but still would leave meat sweats coming out of my forehead after a meal. The garlic rice is not as tasty as it should be because there aren't as many garlic chips in them, they're pretty much plain white rice. Plus, they offer unlimited garlic rice, it's a bit much as it is, there's no need for seconds unless you want to be totally carbed out. Also, what's worth trying here is their Grilled Chicken skewers. They cost about a few bucks each and it's available daily. These are marinaded, tender and juicy, you gotta buy them in bunches. You get breakfast in generous portions at a good price but the unlimited offerings can pass. It's located inside Seafood City and you get to see them work that grill, you can't miss it. read more

I didn't feel part of my tongue anymore after I took a sip. The soup is overloaded with MSG and lard. But we kept drinking the soup because it's only the warm thing and it felt nice in my stomach. -++: The steamed cake came out cold, but it's filled with flavors and it's textured sponge in a good way. ---Coconut water: WTH is that? As an immigrant, I find myself looking for a restaurant that will bring me back to the streets of Manila. Grill City does bring back memories, memories consisting mostly of food poisoning. While this stands operates under the guise of "Authentic Filipino Food," it's much rather a mass produced imitation. Food: -Taho: The presentation is neat. It's packed and sealed into a boba cup. However, the taste is reminiscent of watered down sugar water. The boba is hard to chew and tastes like it's been out for a few days. -Bbq: The meat is grilled all at the same time. By that I mean, the chicken, pork and beef sticks are cooked on the same grill. There's bound to be cross-contamination in the cooking, but hey, that's authentic right? -Fish: The fish is drenched in oil. Yes I know it's deep fried, but when the skin has already absorbed enough oil to emit it out involuntarily, you just can't bring yourself to eat it. Overall: My experience was sub-par. I was greeted succinctly by the cashier and the food is too Americanized. One thing that is authentic is the lack of health and safety standards. Sounds exactly like the Philippines. read more

I like the food here but the service is always terrible. I came at 10 am to eat breakfast and I was ordering a #7 which is the garlic rice with baby bangus and 2 eggs. The server proceeded to get me rice with a stuffed bangus. I was thoroughly confused. Then I realized she was getting me a #7 on the lunch/dinner menu. And I told her I wanted a #7 on the breakfast menu. She said "Oh sorry we don't have breakfast anymore! The menu hasn't been changed." Then she changed the menu screen so the breakfast menu was gone. If the workers weren't so busy standing around and gossiping they would realize that they actually have work to do like change the breakfast menu to the lunch menu. Although the bbq pork on a stick looked delicious, I had to get one of my favorite, the grilled squid. Most entrees range between $6-8 and you can choose between a salad or a soup. My squid was tender and tasty, stuffed with veggies. It came with rice, and LOTS of it. The soup was a chicken soup with a strong gingery taste but pretty good. There's also free water on the side. I love pork bbq on a stick. I was compelled to try this place. I bought the pork bbq on a stick + rice + salad combination. It was about $6.50 or so. I found out later that a-la-cart pork on a stick is $2.50 a stick. So basically, I was paying $4 for rice and their "salad." That is a steep markup. Anyway, I was initially pissed because the combo only had one stick, but a huge amount of rice. We're talking about maybe 3 cups of rice at least. Who eats that much rice at any one time? The salad was nothing special. I give them props for at least having some sort of healthy vegetable dish, a rare thing in filipino cuisine. This salad was only moderately edible. I took a few bites to get my moneys worth and tossed it. The pork bbq was a huge disappointment. Very fatty pieces and some parts were undercooked. Pork is not something anyone should ever eat undercooked. The sauce glazed on was average, and frankly could have used more. I also tried the mango juice that was tumbling in the back. I like to leave a review in the hope of motivating the people behind a restaurant to make some corrections, either to reclaim the good that was there before or perhaps to up their game. This particular location should focus on just restoring what it was doing right before. I really don't expect to get food here to write home about. I am happy just to find decent substitute to the good Filipino dishes that many of us are quite capable of making ourselves. To be fair, I would like to base my verdict on food that I ordered to be consumed on site. I recognize that food to go is bound to be less satisfying as many may not travel well. I am sorry to say that in all the last three instances I had my meal in the Irvine location, I felt like I should have done something else. I am encouraged to never return at this point. It takes me about 5min to get my food at Panda Express, and their line is about just as long. At Grill City, I got BBQ chicken, BBQ pork, Laing, pancit bihon, menudo, and a whole lot of rice. Hubby, brother and I met up here one evening for dinner and weren't super impressed. It might be because we were so excited there was going to be Filipino food in Orange County and it was near my office. We love Filipino food! When we arrived the line was about 15 deep but it took a while to get through because everyone was ordering for their family (huge orders). When we finally got our turn, hubby and I got the grilled pork belly and chicken skewer each with a classic entree and brother got the pork skewer with the salad. For our entrees, the selection was extremely limited. I didn't see anything I usually get (kare kare or sisig, both out) so I inquired about bopis. I know Filipino cuisine uses quite a bit of innards and being a saucy dish, I thought I'd better ask. The girl's initial response was "It's just pork". I countered "Oh really?? There's no organ meat in there like liver or kidney or whatever?" She turned to an older lady and spoke in Tagalog, turned back to me and said "Yeah it's just pork". I was still extremely skeptical but ordered it anyway. Hubby ordered another stew-like dish and said it was just ok. As far as the meats go, they were about average. The pork belly was well cooked but a little too salty. The skewer meats were nicely grilled but it just didn't quite hit the flavor bar. Brother's salad was bland and unremarkable. We also got a side of pancit palabok. I'm a sucker for pancit palabok. This particular version was extra rank/stinky but it was pretty darn tasty. Also, if you want anything deep fried, you gotta go to the other end of the store. Even though it's on the Grill City menu board, they'll tell you you gotta traverse the supermarket to get some lechon or crispy pata. So inconvenient! Honestly, growing up with certain types of foods, you learn to love the "labor of love" that your mother, father, aunts and uncles all talked about as they slaved away in the kitchen, or in the backyard on the grill or fire pit... I'm not sure what others talk about with service, as it's a line, it's an order with a possible "Ma'am Sir," and it's a take it to your seat kind of place. The food is decent, and just like other Filipino spots, when there's dead time, food sits under that lamp and gets dry.. so when you grab skewers etc. at an odd hour, chances are its been sitting there for a bit. Though coming at peak hours means that line moves pretty slow (the workers are a tad bit slow...) and the filipinos can smell the inihaw in the air. When it is fresh though.. the Pork Liempo, the Skewers, and tilapia and bangus are all great. Paired with kanin(rice), vinegar, and patis(fish sauce), it's the closest thing you'll get to your Mom's actual cooking. They have shakes too, and Halo Halo... they're just OK too. I came to to Grill City because I was craving for some authentic Filipino food after my recent trip to Manila and the Bohol Island. There were beef tripes in their kare kare so be sure to inform them to give you the meat only you don't eat innards. But otherwise both their kare kare and chicken adobo were not bad given that it was a fast food restaurant. My favourite has to be the barbecue chicken skewer though:) read more
