I ordered a small order of fried catfish with hush puppies for $17. Two sides come with the meal and I chose mashed potatoes and fried okra. First to arrive was a large amount of fried hushpuppies to nosh on and they were enjoyed. Within 10 minutes later the meal was delivered. 4 pieces of fried catfish fillets, a bowl of mashed potatoes with gravy and a decent sized serving of fried okra. It was a lot of food! I was surprised how large the catfish pieces were and they tasted very good being nicely battered and with plenty of meat. I can see why Vernon's is famous for their fried catfish. The mashed potatoes and okra were delicious too. It was a filling meal for sure. Finally the table service was warm and friendly in a neighborly way. The interior is gorgeous and plenty of tables with one singular grill in the middle with the adjustable vent vacuum. The sashimi was not fishy at all and the food was delivered so quickly after ordering! There were so many cold and hot appetizers but I ordered the french fries, the shumai, the pepper tuna to start. Honestly wasn't expecting that quality or variety in Conroe but the addition of this place is so nice and refreshing to see! They sold Gas for boats on the first floor, and the restaurant was on the second floor. That location mainly had a great view. They recently located to downtown Conroe in the struggling Theater District, near various other microbreweries and Restaurants, it's a whole different place. They are running a comedy club in the upstairs, A bar upstairs and a restaurant downstairs. The food's okay less Tex-Mex now, more high end. I gotta say it isnt cheap eats, a lot of 40 dollar entres now. The drinks were okay again, probably a tad overpriced. Service was okay. The beer came in koozies that still said Willis, Texas. The sign over the bar, still said dock sidebar. But that WAS its charm. I would come to this restaurant for a special event like the comedy club, But it would not be Top of my list for a Mexican restaurant (or whatever it is now) in Conroe.
