I'm a big Gringo's fan coming from the Katy area, I have to say because of the consistency of the food quality. For a TexMex chain they are pretty darn good. You get good flavor, texture, variety and quantity for a very reasonable price. No it's not Escalantes or Ninfa's on Navigation but for a good solid chain, it's very good. The service was excellent. The margarita was average but very good price especially at happy hour. The chicarrons are very good and excellent with queso. I was there for my birthday lunch so I enjoyed it very much. I am certainly going to make a return visit very soon!

**Go online and get on the waitlist! This place can get packed and have a long wait. We got online and were seated in 10 minutes once we arrived.** This place is great for groups with large seating options. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with substitutions. It was a little tricky because the wait staff didn't know the answer to our questions when bringing out our food. The margaritas were delicious and large. Would definitely go again!

Excellent food, especially the Ribeye Tacos and Queso! The atmosphere was very welcoming, and our server, Tiana, was great.

Disappointment. If you're raised in Texas, how can you mess up Tex-Mex? Let me further preface by saying the service was excellent. But on that same note, it was obvious that once it was realized that the food was not received well, remind you that we made no complaints, the service dropped off. Why voice disappointment in food that is obviously representative of the restaurant. And it wasn't just the food. The drinks were, at best, average. This was my first experience at this restaurant chain and my expectations were high. I chose it specifically because of the ratings but I should've paid more attention to the few low scores that I saw because later I reread those and I agree. My salad, was nothing special. It was the southwest shrimp salad. The entire thing tasted of lettuce and now I know why they give five sauces to smother their food in. However, the sauce that I was given, while you would expect it to be tasty, was quite bland. My mom ordered the taco salad to be safe. Good thing she did because it actually tasted a bit on the Taco Bell side, which would mean at least edible. My comments here are not to slam the food because obviously lots of people enjoy it, but I do want to give a heads up to those people who actually like a tasty, spicy, flavorful dish that would be a representative of a Tex-Mex meal to perhaps make choices differently than we did. And to be the devil's advocate, I had read that the restaurant is known for their street tacos. Perhaps those are their Wow factor.

I was craving Mexican food, and Gringo's had been recommended. I was planning to get it to go order. I didn't really like their waiting area for to go, so I asked if I could sit at the bar and have a cold drink while I was waiting. I ended up sitting at the bar and chatting with a friendly bartender. The facility is relatively new and well decorated. They have three good size televisions right over the bar so I was able to watch a basketball game while eating. I had a pastor bowl, which came with black beans and rice. It was quite tasty, but more than I could eat. The complementary chips and salsa were very good, but their green salsa, which is usually made with tomatillos, seems to have been made with sour cream and was very good.

I remembered a good visit so that's why I returned. Vernon's has its own parking lot and is a table service restaurant specializing in catfish among other seafood items. I ordered a small order of fried catfish with hush puppies for $17. Two sides come with the meal and I chose mashed potatoes and fried okra. First to arrive was a large amount of fried hushpuppies to nosh on and they were enjoyed. Within 10 minutes later the meal was delivered. 4 pieces of fried catfish fillets, a bowl of mashed potatoes with gravy and a decent sized serving of fried okra. It was a lot of food! I was surprised how large the catfish pieces were and they tasted very good being nicely battered and with plenty of meat. I can see why Vernon's is famous for their fried catfish. The mashed potatoes and okra were delicious too. It was a filling meal for sure. Finally the table service was warm and friendly in a neighborly way. I like Vernon's Kuntry Katfish and understand why it's a popular pace to dine.

Lots of seating. For those disappointed with the old Red Lobster I suggest you give it another go.

I like their Hibachi grill, at which I am able to select my own raw food and have it cooked to order -- for example, in teriyaki sauce or ginger. The staff seemed just kind of confused at every part of the dining process and barely address you. We only saw a server once to be seated and once when we had to go find a random employee to just get our check. The food was maybe half a step above room temperature and the water had a really strange taste that was kind of reminiscent of chemicals, soap, and some kind of bacteria all at once, there were plates that weren't very clean, and all the food tasted horribly off. My friend and I didn't even finish the one plate we made and completely lost our appetites. Both of us felt sick after what little we ate and my stomach was in so much pain. If I was more confrontational, I would've demanded a refund or some kind of compensation because of how horrible our experience was but we just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. There are better buffets in the area that aren't walking health hazards. Please try those places instead if you're looking for one.
