Had a very unpleasant experience here recently that I'm really bummed about because the coffee is delicious, in fact, I give that 5 stars, this review is specifically about the customer service. I subscribed to their points program via Fivestars and the app on my phone showed me I had a buy one get one 50% off promotion available so I figured why not use it? Not only did they not honor it, they were extremely rude about it--as if me even bringing it up was an affront. I tried to inquire as to why and was interrupted with a very curtly delivered answer. It was clear they just wanted me and my offending promo out of there. That interaction left a bad taste in my mouth and unfortunately I won't be going there anymore. Thankfully there are no shortages of amazing non-Starbucks coffee places here in LB so I'll be able to support another great local business and still get my caffeine fix. Great spot for a coffee and a snack. Breakfast burrito is abit expensive but it's very tasty and love the Home made salsa. The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew just like pumpkin pie but not overly sweet, Just a great pumpkin flavor. I also tried the drip coffee which wasn't overly powering just a lovely aromatic cup of coffee. This used to be one of my favorite coffee shops in Long Beach but unfortunately I had a very bad experience here. Me and a group of friends have a rotation of coffee shops we go to meet up and do coworking for our remote work. We bring our laptops and get some coffee and food and hang out and work. I've lived in Long Beach for 14 years and for however long Ground Hideout has been open, I've been coming here because a good friend lives around the corner and I loved their food and drinks. Today however me and my friend met up like usual, and because their tables are small and we have our laptops and notebooks, plus plates and cups, I took the table next to us and nestled it into ours. We were chatting for just a few minutes and catching up from the holidays, she had brought me a present so I opened it, fully intending to buy a drink and food when we had a lull in conversation, but someone who I assume might have been the owner or manager came up to us and said we couldn't use 2 tables for just the 2 of us because it gets busy on the weekends. It was 9:30 am. I looked around and there was one pair of people sitting at a table and one pair standing waiting. There were 2 other open tables. It was not busy. I then went to order but asked about that and they said that there was a time limit on the tables on the weekend. I asked how long and they said 1 hour and for paying customers. I asked if that was posted anywhere and they said no. I had my reusable cup in my hand, ready to be a customer, but instead I decided to leave and give my business to somewhere else instead. So they lost a present tangible real customer for a future potential ghost customer, and I won't be making an effort to return. I understand that it's a small space and if there were other people already there and all the tables were filled, I would have readily given up the table to accommodate other people. And true, we usually come on weekdays. BUT THE PLACE WAS NEARLY EMPTY, and even one tiny table for 2 people is already crowded. Plus, it was a holiday weekend when the vibe was slow and restful, and who even knows what day it is during the last 2 weeks of December? I had the opportunity to get some work done. But this made me feel really bad and unwelcome and rushed so we left, in plenty of time before the 1 hour was up when supposedly they would have kicked us out, even if there was no one waiting for a table. That's a bad vibe, and I can't relax with that level of "supervision." There are other coffee shops that have good drinks and food and actually appreciate their long-time customers. We went around the block to Recreational instead, and I felt like an actual good vibe being there, not like I was an imposition. Even at really busy places like Good Time, where sometimes I'll go and the entire place will be filled, with no spots anywhere, the management doesn't police who gets to have a table and how long. It's understood that coffee shops are a place to go to relax, connect, hang out, work, read, write, whatever. If the place is full, it's full. I either ask to share a table with someone else (and that's always been fine) or go somewhere else if I need a bigger table to meet with a group. No one at any other coffee shop has ever told me I'm taking up too much space or time. So among all the coffee shops to choose from in Long Beach, I am bummed that Ground Hideout basically told me I was unwelcome there. So, message received. I won't bother them with my business. read more

Coffee, was adequate. Space was small, which is neither her nor there. In fact it would have been quite cozy had the staff not been just straight-up not cool. I asked for the wifi and was told ut was reserved fir paying customers. I tried to explain tbat I was indeed a paying customer, but I always try to log onto wifi first because of firewall issues I occasionally have with my work computer. I was shocked that staff was not only not cooperative, but nasty and condescending about it as if I were lying ir inventing a nonissue for what reason I would do that, who knows. If I hadnt been pressed for time to log into work, i would have walked out. I tried to joke about it to make light, because I frankly was made to feel awkward about it, but there was no having it. Exceptional! Decided to take a walk on my break needed a cheerful pick me up ( rough morning) but I walked in and around 9:30 am very quiet but there were a few couples in there sitting. The music wasn't loud but you can hear it ( instrumentals) it was a total vibe. The menu was not that big but it's safe to say each of the food items pack a unique punch by the ingredients I was reading. I ordered a Masala Chai latte (iced) and the gentleman was giving me a description of pasties and all I heard was strawberry and I was sold. I waited for my order ( which by the way was not long at all. But they have photos on their wall.. BEAUTIFUL pictures of the owner and his family ( A LATIN FAMILY FROM CENTRAL AMERICA) yesssssssssds fellow Latinos & Latina. And I turn around and it's them in the flesh and working. Stopped by with some friends from out of country after lunch on a Thursday at 2:30 with a local friend who recommended their coffee. We ordered 4 drinks total. 3 iced matchas and 1 hot tea. We tried to order one iced matcha latte with regular whole milk and asked for "little less milk" (bc she was a little lactose) but the manager/owner was very difficult with the request. She said they can't change the recipe and instead told us to pay for an additional shot and then she told us to substitute the milk. We just wanted less ounces of milk (which would have saved her money). Then she said some interesting comment about how she doesn't want to receive a phone call saying my friend's stomach hurts bc of the milk. The matchas were very terrible. Recently it's been a few misses here . I tried their seasonal carrot cake latte which was way too sweet . A few days ago I ordered my usual which is honey oat latte and was given a whole completely different drink , it had some sort of nuts sprinkled on top . Luckily they were able to remake. they eventually gave me the drink & as soon as I took the first sip I knew it was wrong . First time I came here, was earlier in the year (Feb) with a friend, we looked up a coffee shop nearby and it did not disappoint. We were charmed by the owner and cozy atmosphere and of course coffee. Was amazed they make their syrups in house. Teas are delicious too. As I continued to find myself there, the spark slowing faded. When you ask about a drink they seem so annoyed or irritated by you asking questions They have a small menu by the register no menu up top so everyone can see it. Seating area is small so it fills up quickly, if you plan to stay and enjoy your drink, you might find yourself having to sit outdoor in the patio chairs which is not great when it's cold outside. If you plan to take it to go, It's awkward just stand around for 10 minutes waiting for a drink/food. I've had the avocado toast and almond butter toast (not pic) one as well really good. They have huge cookies Reward system is good but they don't let you upgrade or upcharge, if you want an upgrade your free drink, like on your bday. Overall it's a they have good drinks and food. When I first moved to Long Beach, this was the first place I went to. It was a cute little coffee shop & family owned. I came in mid January so if you're a local you know why this month is important. The seasonal coffee. The Coffee with the crème Brûlée that she created was my favorite, I nearly bought it everyday that month until the end of February. I wish it was all year round because whew!!!!! The taste is comparable to a raspberry chocolate milk shake with coffee but not over powering, and not too milky, you get those Specific notes after each sip and swallow. I also decided to order the breakfast sandwich with brioche bread, the way it's prepared and how she thought of every little detail really warmed my heart to Living in Long Beach. It's made with habanero jam that is unreal to my taste buds, topped with bacon, arugula and fried egg. They are all very nice and very cheerful in the mornings, they will do their absolute best to cater and service all their customers who come in. I have never felt uncomfortable here ever, by now the daughter knows my name already in lol. Every season she brings out a new menu or drinks and they do not disappoint! I decided to do some work and I was fully aware they have a 2 hour dining limit. As I am approaching my time limit the lady comes up to me and says your "times up, you need to leave" like I'm in the 5th grade and infront of everyone around as well. I respectfully told her I still have a few minutes and she made it a point to go back to my receipt from when I ordered to look at the time stamp as if 50 people are going to come in wanting to sit the moment my 2 hours are up. Their pastries were pretty fire. We got a cookie croissant and a pineapple danish. Vibes/Ambiance: 7.5/10 We visited on a Wednesday morning and it wasn't too busy. I've had cardamom in coffee before but just never had it combined with orange. The Sunrise Sandwich was good as well. It would've been a typical breakfast sandwich but the house made habanero jam gave it a nice little kick. It had fried egg, bacon, tomato, arugula, and red onion. Limited parking in this area.
