This is the second time I came here and when I thought the drink came with oat milk and it didn't I asked if they could remake it. They were rude and told me no you would have to pay for a new one (total would be 19 dollars) and that I should have looked at the menu more and then got rude when I sat on a ledge and told me to look at the signs that I couldn't sit there. When I said I was disappointed I couldn't get another drink made and that they were rude I said I'd have to leave a bad review for their extreme attitude that's when they offered a refund and told me to get out. I cam here with a friend and I got the rose matcha latte iced with pistachio milk - my friend got the olive oil latte (iced). I am an avid matcha drinker and was quite disappointed with my drink - I could not taste the matcha of rose flavor at all, it was completely over powered by the pistachio milk and tasted medicinal. My friend enjoyed her latte so maybe I just made a wrong selection of my drink. The host was nice and friendly - overall great service. I've been to this coffee shop a few times, mostly because my mom first brought me a vegan cookie from here that was really good. I really wanted to like this place, but my experiences have been pretty mixed. One time, my daughter and I sat outside for literally a minute or two just to get situated with our bags, and I fully planned on going inside to order. Before we even had a chance, someone came out and told us the seats were only for customers. It felt rude and a bit unnecessary, especially since we were about to order. It honestly made us just want to leave, which we did. The coffee itself is consistently good, but the prices are extremely high. My drinks end up being a little over $10, which is the most I've ever paid for coffee in Long Beach. On another visit, I got one coffee and one cookie and my total was $16. I don't know why it's that expensive, but it definitely stands out. I've also had interactions where the vibe from the owner or staff just didn't feel friendly or welcoming. Nothing dramatic, just an overall feeling that customers aren't really valued. Combined with the high prices, it doesn't make me want to keep spending money here. Overall, good coffee and great vegan cookies, but customer service and pricing make it hard for me to recommend. I'll probably skip this place moving forward. read more

This location is in the heart of Long Beach, by downtown and the pier. When entering, we were intrigued with the drink (iced) Orange Cardamom Latte with oat milk. After trying several orange flavored lattes and enjoying them, we knew we had to give this drink a taste test too! This drink is bitter, containing the zest from the orange peels. The flavors are very distinct and can be tasted separately, but then starts merging, blending the perfect bitter taste with the smooth creaminess from the coffee and espresso foam. We also tried the popular option (iced) Pistachio Latte, which contains pistachio milk! This drink is nutty and smooth. It's a super comforting drink that blends so well and probably our most recommended! Their pastries are from a shop in Santa Monica! But they also make food, like sandwiches. We had their chimichurri melt, and it was so delicious and very flavorful! Their blueberry muffin is very delicious and usually sells out fast. This place is definitely a nice location to visit when you are in the area! We recommend it for those nearby, so let us know what you try! read more

Amazing place to be. Love how this quaint coffee shop heart of Arts District Long Beach near Aquarium of Pacific is family owned and run. Brother Alex and sister warmly greet you as you walk in. Excellent coffee, tea, and menu items. We enjoyed their breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwiches. In the future, hopefully, there will be more gluten free AND vegan items. Appreciated the vegan chocolate chip cookies, but not gluten free. Especially adored the cuteness of decors and plenty of seating inside and outside. This is one of my absolute favorite coffee shops in Long Beach! Their lattes are exceptional, smooth and well balanced. They have season options and I tend to like to try something new. They have an orange cardamom latte that was simply amazing! I got it iced with almond milk, so good. I've also have their rose latte which is one of my favorites. I've also had their breakfast biscuit sandwich, large portion and pretty tasty! They are a little on the pricy side but the quality of the coffee is worth it to me, so I go when I want to treat myself. Stop by to support! I was missing Long Beach, so my girlfriend and I headed down to this area to walk and indulge in local offerings. Ground Hideout Coffee was definitely a great one to find as they offered a cozy shop with a surprising amount of modern seating and helpful baristas. There's enough of a vibe to study or read a book but comfortable enough for small conversation despite its size. The drinks are all delicately made and flavored to your preference, such as the Rose Matcha latte, which they suggested. The latte was just right in sweetness and naturally floral that didn't taste overbearing like some others. They accommodated our large party and despite providing fast service, the quality was never rushed. There's nearby parking but walking is very doable as it's a beautiful area with pedestrian/bike accommodations. Next time I come back home, I hope to try their Lavender Mint. read more

Coffee 9/10 We tried their Shakerato from their summer series drinks which I believe is their version of a Vietnamese or Spanish latte. It has espresso, condensed milk, oat milk, shaken over ice and topped with muscovado sugar. DELICIOUS!! We also had a simple vanilla latte and I was so happy with it. Both so so good. Food 7.8/10 We ordered their breakfast burrito (eggs, potatoes, bell peppers, onions, bacon, and cheese). It was okay and a little overpriced for the size. We also had their sunrise sandwich (fried egg, bacon, tomato, arugula, red onion, housemade habanero jam, on a toasted brioche bun) and this was very good. The habanero jam made the sandwich! Their pastries were pretty fire. We got a cookie croissant and a pineapple danish. Vibes/Ambiance: 7.5/10 We visited on a Wednesday morning and it wasn't too busy. It was quiet and staff was friendly. I noticed that the barista greeted customers by name. They have a few plants that you can buy so that adds a little personality to the spot. FYI this little place is located on the corner, because I originally drove by it. Small compact location, but the space is utilized to full potential. We tried the summer series drinks Shakerato and Tiramisu Cloud Brew, along with Almond Butter toast. I originally wanted the breakfast burrito, but they were unable to make it without cheese because it was premade...if you've seen any of my previous post, you know my feelings on that. Other than that, everything was fantastic. Drinks weren't too sweet and I was able to taste the coffee. The almond butter toast is just a modified Elvis Presley, which I'm good with. The thing that was different, was the choice of music which was a very slow jazz. I don't have anything against that, but I go with a group of four, who love to tell stories and laugh loud and other than my group you could hear a pin drop in that place. Been coming here on the weekends this year for my matcha fix and usually end up trying something off of their menu. Here's what I've tried so far: Drinks - Matcha latte with oat milk and half sweet (simple syrup): - Honey pistacho latte: Food - Avocado toast (no extras): Smashed avocado, cherry tomatoes, micro-greens, salt + pepper on toasted sourdough bread - you can add a fried egg and/or bacon for extra. While the salt and pepper sprinkled on to were a nice touch, and you could get this with an egg, I don't know if this really appealed to me. I do love the bread - I believe it was sourdough. - Sunrise sandwich: Fried egg, bacon, tomato, arugula, red onion, housemade habanero jam, on a toasted brioche bun. My absolutely favourite, with the sweet yet slightly spicy habanero jam, and the runny yolk. The red onion and arugula are a great contrast against the egg, bacon, and red onions. - Breakfast biscuit with ham: Buttermilk biscuit, white cheddar cheese, egg, with your choice of: Ham, bacon, or spinach. I liked this initially, but after a few bites in, it was a little too much biscuit for me. I usually have the prices but I genuinely can't remember any of them, so I'll try to update the review afterwards if I am able to grab them. The cashier, baristas, and chefs are super kind and prompt. Service is pretty fast - if you have a to go order, they'll call your name out. If you let the cashier know that you'll be doing a dine-in order, grab a seat if you find one (depending on the day) and they'll bring your order out to you. Do remember to put the plates away after you're done! This is on 4th Street, two blocks from where Gold's Gym just opened up, by the Ross, so parking is extremely limited and street, only. You could park at the 2 hour free parking spots by Ross and walk over. Sometimes you may get lucky and find a street spot, but know that it may take some time. read more

I used to be a regular at Ground Hideout for two years, but after an unsettling experience a few months ago, I stopped coming. I was dining in when I saw a customer politely ask for more salsa. The owner completely overreacted, refusing because the customer didn't have $1.50 cash to cover it and the owner didn't want to pay a credit card fee for $1.50. To the owner, if you're that concerned about the fee, maybe just give the customer the salsa for free? It's a dollar. That salsa cup cost you less than 10¢. The customer had a coffee and a breakfast burrito. They probably spent over $20. The interaction left such a bad taste in my mouth that I chose not to return. Today, I decided to give the place a second chance. Unfortunately, the experience was just as uncomfortable. The owner (or at least the older woman who I assume is the owner) was staring me down the entire time, making me feel unwelcome. The cashier barely spoke, no greeting, no "how are you," nothing. Just took my order and told me the total. For a coffee shop charging $10 for a drink when every competitor on the same street is priced at $5-$6, you'd think customer service would be a priority. If you don't appreciate your customers, they'll stop showing up, simple as that. And honestly, given how often your shop gets broken into, maybe it's time to reevaluate how you run your business. Perhaps consider hiring staff who actually enjoy their job instead of relying on family members who clearly don't. I recommend Recreational Coffee a 1min walk from this place. Great coffee/lattes with AMAZING customer service. They always have people working on their laptops inside and they feel very joyful. I really enjoy going there. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt off vibes from the owner ( the older lady) . She was pretty rude and not pleasant to talk to. We are in here around noon and NO ONE was using the tables so we decided to use the one next to us as well to get a little bit more space since we have food drinks and our laptops. She comes over and tells us no because other customers need it ( which I totally get but it was empty) . So I asked if we can until people come in and the other tables are used up too and she said no. The no wasn't the issue. It was more her tone and attitude. We moved to a bigger spot eventually and she kept staring at us and I'm pretty sure she was talking shit to her husband that we did. The coffee and the food was actually good. But I would never recommend and wouldn't come back ( esp for sit down). I think having good coffee is good, but to me, customer service is so important. This place deserves a 5+ stars. I've been coming here since I first moved to Long Beach 3 years ago and their oatmilk lattes are better here than at Starbucks. Not to mention it's a family owned business and the daughter hand makes the habanero sauce in the sunrise sandwich (THE SANDWICH IS A MUST TRY AND MY FAVORITE BREAKFAST SANDWICH IN LONG BEACH). RACIST ESTABLISHMENT-I am very disappointed by this establishment. I arrived and ordered an avocado toast and a coffee and sat down with my friend to study. I had just finished my toast when the female owner approached ONLY us (two latinas) and said they have a two hour max for computers since it gets busy on weekends. We said okay and continued our work. Then I noticed she didn't tell the other two people (white) with computers anything. My friend, myself and another gentleman (white man) was sitting next to me and a lady (white) was outside with her laptop. That was it. It wasn't rush hour, no one was coming in. When she left the gentleman asked me "how long were you guys here for before she kicked you out?" I responded "I finished my toast and she came to us. My drink is still full" and he said "that's crazy. She didn't tell me anything. I wouldn't have been as nice as you girls."
