I would say this place is very hit or miss. First, the parking can be a hassle if you don't live or work in the area and want to sit and enjoy your coffee. Traffic enforcement is probably just around the corner watching you. I haven't tried their drip coffee, since I'm a latte kinda gal, but I've tried almost all of them. The reason I came back was because of my first time here: the Mexican mocha was PERFECT so props to that barista who made it. Now, whenever I go, I am basically playing the lottery because I never know if it's going to be good or bad. The environment is also nice, not too loud or quiet. Great for white noise lovers and hang out with a friend to catch-up. Overall, it checks off all the requirements for a coffee shop and the quality is still superior to the Starbucks on the corner of Vine and Sunset. read more

In general the coffee is fine. For $7.25 for a pretty small mocha the baristas could stand to smile more. Dark haired girl with piercings and a larger man with tattoos, both not friendly... Stopped by with my sister to grab some drinks before sitting in Hollywood traffic. The shop itself has an ample amount of seating and they sell bags of their coffee blends as well. I ordered a black iced tea and my sister got a cold brew with their made-in-house cashew milk (recommended by the guy who helped us.) Came out to about $7, but I know quality coffee isn't cheap. Both drinks were great. I really appreciate how they have simple syrup as well as ground sugar. Probably wont come back unless I'm in the area since there's a Groundworks closer to me. read more

During a recent trip to LA, I visited three different coffee shops and this was one of them. Situated on the corner of Cahuenga and Sunset, it was easy to find. I'm glad I walked, because I didn't see any parking. When I arrived, around 8am, the place wasn't too busy. There were several spots open at the numerous pub tables and at the large communal table in the middle of the shop. The staff didn't seem very welcoming but they weren't rude either. They were quick and efficient, which was fine by me. I ordered the breakfast burrito and a hot vanilla latte - my go-to drink. The drink was good and of the three coffee shops I visited, it was the best drink. It was well balanced - it wasn't too sweet nor too bitter. The burrito was good but messy. The tortilla fell apart and I had to eat the burrito with a fork. Overall, I would come back if I was in the area again. The service was quick/efficient and the food and drink was good. read more

Took an extra 10-15 to get my drink, because somehow it got lost in the mix... first disappointment, but wasn't too big of a deal. This was the worst cafe experience I've ever had.. me and my family went in for coffee and right off the bat the staff was rude and was acting werid. We were looking at the display case when a staff member put a cover over it, we politely asked if they where still taking orders and they said yes but they were closing early. They then proceeded to lock the 5 customers inside. While The staff was making our drinks he burned himself and started screaming, Everyone immediately rushed out but was yelled at when they couldn't open the door. After ten minutes of waiting out drinks where done and tasted absolutely horrid the coffee was burnt and sour. For 30$ it wasn't a pleasant experience. The coffee is fine and gets the job done. However, the customer service definitely leaves something to be desired. If you're environmentally conscious and bring in your own cup, be aware that they will not rinse it out for you and will speak to you as if you've requested them to sacrifice a goat with your order. When they mess up your order as well and you're waiting for the final drink to complete your order, don't worry, they'll make sure you know that you in fact messed up your order and won't start making the rest of your drinks until you stand in line again and pay a second time. Groundwork Coffee is a nice alternative to Starbucks Coffee. It's what Starbucks used to be like before Starbucks became Starbucks. It's less crowded, although not so much at this location. They are a nice intermediary between artisanal coffee and mass produced chain organizations. They don't have as many variety of coffees and coffee drinks, but what they do have is pretty good. Their pastry fridge is filled with local bakeries and they also offer cold pressed juices, just as other coffee companies. Essentially, they are Starbucks before Starbucks turned into Starbucks. This location is pretty exposed, so if you're looking for a quiet place to have coffee and work, this might not be the choice...especially during the middle of the day. However, early evening until closing, you might have a better shot. Otherwise, this is a nice place to get a drink. read more

Nick H wanted to go to 2 hamburger places. Yep, he likes burger that much. I tricked him into going here instead. Ordered mexican mocha latte, strawberry italian soda, blueberry scone and cracker. Mexican mocha latte ($3.50 for single): I am sure a lot of people like Mexican mocha, but I am not one of them. It tastes weird and mediciny for me. Strawberry Italian soda: this Italian soda was so perfect. It was super yum. Blueberry scone: I thought it was green tea since it looked greenish more than bluish. The scone was pretty good. Terrific coffee & breakfast. Loved the breakfast tacos & burritos. Hot redeye is my drink here.

They've kind of got it all in the coffee shop internet cafe department. Restroom, outlets, free WiFi, good coffee, Mexican hot chocolate or a leaded version: Mexican Mocha and the real doozy, breakfast burritos. We stayed here on a weekday morning for a good hour+. My laptop was fully charged as we scored a table right near the row of outlets. I loved my veggie breakfast burrito and didn't second guess my decision passing up the bacon or chorizo one. The Mexican Mocha is seriously the way I want to start every day. Restrooms though was not tidy but once I made a mention of it to the staff they got right on it. Plus they've got bitches brew. This is a cute little place to grab a coffee. One caveat... if you're having a meeting or planning on doing some work, avoid the bar tables. The chairs, while cool looking, are terribly uncomfortable and weirdly made. I'm not short - but I couldn't reach the foot rest area, so I was shifting uncomfortably my entire meeting and I was wearing a dress - so I fear I may have inadvertently flashed a lot of budding screenwriters. Try to grab one of the smaller tables or even choose the communal table in the middle of the room... whatever it takes to not be sitting on one of those awful bar stools. The coffee was good. They have a small pastry case that looks tempting and some cold items (salads, yogurt, the usual) to grab and go. I'd certainly come back, but I wouldn't sit in one of those stools again. Came here for a second time and immediately regretted giving them a second chance. I think I got the same Asian barista who was rude to me last time! He at least said hi this time but was totally not attentive. I asked him if the coffee cake has nuts in it; he immediately asked his coworker to grab a slice for him. I told him, "wait, does it have nuts in it though?" He responded, in a rather cavalier tone, "oh, it doesn't". Like wth! Is this how they treat customers with allergies? What if he had sold me a slice with nuts in it because he didn't bother to pay attention to my question?? That's a lawsuit waiting to happen! And then, when I was grabbing my drink, I asked the female, curly haired barista to confirm what I ordered. She seemed rather annoyed at my question. Turns out there was good reason to confirm because I wanted an iced vanilla latte with light ice. That drink was actually up next. Except I had already proceeded to remove the ice from someone else's drink, which also happened to be a iced vanilla latte. So I approached her with this issue, and she seemed to be like, you two figure it out. I get that she doesn't know who ordered what since she's the one making drinks but given that she was making two consecutive vanilla lattes, she could've at least called out our names? Or else what's the point of asking for a name for the order? Anyways, The proper way to handle this mix up would have been an apology, first off. And then an offer to remake the drink for the customer who didn't ask for light ice, since I messed up his drink. Now is that so hard? At $6 for a vanilla latte, you'd think that they could at least get your order right and offer a sorry when something goes amiss. read more

The coffee is good and for a while we had a subscription. Sadly, every time I tried to use their website, I was required to change my password. I contacted Groundwork to try and resolve the issue and was told the problem was my email provider. I get all of Groundwork's emails telling my order is about ready to ship, has shipped, link to change my password, etc. No problem at all with receiving or sending emails to the company. No problem with any of the other sites we order from or have subscriptions from. Just the Groundwork website is wonky. Erica suggested I change my email provider. Seriously. I told Erica we are canceling our subscription since our business apparently isn't worth their time. I have a great affinity for this spot because of its location and its tea selection. It is walking distance from Arclight in Hollywood, almost right across the street so its convenient to extend an movie date with a friend, or to meet a friend before the movie. Its also right next door to a fabulous little thai spot, and walking distance from all kinds of shops and other places to eat. But here is what is cool about this little spot. You order your hot tea (a large is about $2.50) and then you go over to their tea bar and place the loose tea leaves into the little tea bags provided. They have a fabulous tea selection and my only complaint is that it may be hard to choose which flavor. So fun!! Ok, I'm totally being nerdy about this little tea ritual but someone famous once said "there is great comfort in a cup of tea" and that's just true. I might as well come out of the tea bagging closet now. giggle. Drop into this little spot sometime if you're in the area. I heard their Spanish latte is as good as the one at Urth, which I find hard to believe, but am looking forward to trying... Recommended for a date, working, a meal (they have a nice little of sandwiches and other stuff on menu), and it's Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood so I gotta add people watching to the list. My girlfriend and I tried Groundwork on Friday. I can't believe I've worked in the neighborhood for over 9 years and am just now stumbling into this place. With so many different coffee options popping up within walking distance of my office, (2 Starbucks, intelligentsia coffee bar in Stella Barra, Coffee Commissary in Siren Studios, French Press coffee at Tender Greens). I have slowly weaned myself off of CBTL and have started venturing out to spread the coffee funds amongst all. We both had non fat lattes - these were great! and the raspberry cheese danish I had was delightful. I enjoyed the dark edgy vibe indoors and the fact that I felt like we weren't in the heart of Hollywood, which is something you enjoy when you are in crazy town nearly 10+ hours a day 5 days a week. Popping in somewhere and feeling like you've escaped is a nice treat. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. I will surely be here a lot more now that I know how much I like it! read more

I am giving this place only 3 stars because on Yelp it states that this place closes at 8:00PM but it closed at 7:00PM when I was there (I had gotten there at 6:50PM). I don't know whose fault this is, but someone needs to change it so people stop getting tricked. However, they have some very good coffee, wifi, and a huge picnic table for people to handle business. Their "we're really into coffee theme" with lots of coffee memorabilia everywhere is cool too. Some random coffee shop just needs to throw coffee beans all over the floor like some Texas restaurants do with peanut shells. Aside from parking being terrible, I would come back here to study if I were in the area. Maybe I'll check out the CNN building next door somehow. read more

As a self admitted coffee snob, Groundwork offers a very smooth, clean, rich and tasty latte made from top quality espresso that keeps me coming back for more. How anyone can go back to Starbucks after having Groundwork is beyond me, but I've seen it happen. Treat yourself. You deserve it! Groundwork Coffee, home-based in LA, is supposed to be the household name that every Angeleno awakes to after the end of Starbucks Empire. However, Intelligentsia and Stumpton grew quickly to claim the territory and they were most recently joined by a Costal favorite, Blue Bottle. Groundwork didn't even have a chance to fight before its people flooded the hippest spots in Silver Lake and DTLA. Maybe, the competition have just began. How could you not have an advantage by roasting fresh beans right in your own backyard? At least go snatch a person or two who are hopelessly waiting in line for Dunkin Donut. With the backdrop of the Hollywood sign and being a block away from the Walk of Fame, I was not expecting a hip scene at this location at all. I was surprised to see there were people quietly working on their laptops and catching up on businesses. Some, like me, may just be bluntly admiring the artsy naked butts on the wall. It still puzzles me what the photographer is trying convey, but I guess that's why I work with numbers. Good coffee, convenient location, street parking and all organic. The organic part is only important for those who eats according to labels. I've come here before and thought the coffee was a-okay, but on a recent visit I opted for the chai latte and felt the experienced review worthy. The latte was creamy and cinnamon-y: really delicious, and it gave me the pick-me-up I needed. And at 7:30am the place was completely empty, service was fast, and the baristas were friendly too.
