I'd give definitely give this place a better rating but I'm really bothered that they're so insanely lazy that they still haven't opened up back to normal yet? All the chairs are put away and the place is separated with caution tape, because of "safety", although customers still walk in and order at a table, 4 feet away from the counter??? What a bunch of garbage!! It's pure laziness, and especially when I've never in my life seen a place so over staffed, they literally have 10-12 teenagers behind the counter every time I've been there and most of them are standing around talking and definitely not actually working, something I've witnessed at least a half dozen times, pre covid and now after covid?? With that much staff standing around talking you'd think you can just put the tables back out so customers could eat inside, like just about every other restaurant outside of LA??? The food is good, especially for the cost. However, I can no longer justify giving this restaurant business for multiple reasons, the biggest of which, is the owner (Luis/"Guicho"). Like two other recent reviews, the issues center around the restaurant's choice to prioritize catered/party orders over their regular takeout business and the frequent closing of the restaurant . . . the owner's abrasive attitude when discussing these issues is just the icing on top. I live approximately 20 minutes from this restaurant. Since it is next to a grocery store and HomeGoods, I always knock out some errands: Guichos to order, HomeGoods, grab some groceries, and then back to Guichos to pick up my food since there is always a fairly long wait for the food. However, many months ago when I showed up during their normal hours, the door was locked. No sign, some employees moving around in the back, but nobody answered the door. Annoyed since it is 40 minutes of my time and gas, I didn't make an issue of it. A month or two later, after having eaten there a couple of more times, I again went there during normal business hours. Once again, the door was locked. This time, there was a sign that said all employees take a lunch break at the same time which lasts an hour. This time, an employee did come out to talk when I knocked, and she said they'd be opening back up in about 45 minutes after they had their lunch break. Of course, then it would mean another 30+ minutes to prepare the food, so I would be waiting at least an hour and 15 minutes. A month goes by again, but I was prepared this time: I knew what time each day they had their lunch break. Wrong. When I arrived to order this time, I was told that they weren't taking orders for at least four hours. They had accepted two big party/catering orders, so they were going to do those instead of the normal walk-in/call-in business. At this time, I was annoyed enough to ask to speak to a manager or the owner. The employee gave me the cell numbers of both. In a very polite manner, I expressed my annoyance via text to the owner/manager of this happening three times. I explained that I realized it was his prerogative to decide if accepting party orders and turning down his regular customers was the best for his business, but as a frequent customer who felt I did my part (never complained about food not being ready when it was supposed to be, always tipping on takeout orders), it wasn't worth it for me to keep spending my time and money going to his business and it being closed for lunch breaks or having my business turned down. Since I had a remaining balance on a gift card there, I asked if he could refund the remaining balance. I received no response for over a week. I again reached out, and I received a response telling me that I could call him at a specific time and date. I called him at the date/time, and he didn't answer. He returned my call. I allowed him to talk for about 10 minutes straight. When it was my turn to talk, within 10 seconds, I was being interrupted. I stayed as cordial and polite as possible, but it was clear that he wasn't going to see how a customer driving 40 minutes roundtrip three different times only to have the restaurant be closed and/or turn down your business due to taking "party orders" wasn't worth my time or money to continue doing. He told me to send him the gift card information, and he would have the remaining balance refunded, which I did. That was November 14th. I texted him again on November 27th to ask if he had refunded the amount, since it hadn't shown up. He once again didn't respond. I texted again on December 9th to inquire, and once again, he didn't respond. I talked to his business parter at the restaurant, who seemed like a reasonable and friendly guy. He understood my frustration. As I told the business partner, Guicho is "just a jerk." As another reviewer said, he's just a "grumpy old guy." Food is pretty good. Price is good. But give your business to an owner who values their customers and is a good person. read more

I just have to say WOW went to grab a quick lunch and found the best Italian sub I have ever had! The place was very clean and staff was very nice. The food here is SO GOOD. After a long day of hiking my friend and I ordered a turkey and a chicken sandwich. They boxed them up with a little arugula side salad with lemon dressing and some tomatoes. The sandwiches were huge for the price and they were very fresh. I was very pleasantly surprised. I would love to eat here again...everything on the menu looks delicious. I only gave it 4 stars though because we didn't really get to evaluate the restaurant or service itself. I AM DONE!! I have been here a few times and the food was pretty good... a little on the small side for the price you pay but worth it in the end. Today was the last time I will ever go back there. Didn't even order my food! My wife and I were just coming in for a couple of sandwiches. It was about 3:00pm and it looked quiet inside. Once we decided what we wanted, we were approached by a young lady who was at a table eating and told it that it would be 35 minutes before our food would be ready! Like seriously?? She told us that they had a catering order that is being made before they could start ours. Really? You couldn't squeeze two sammy's in somewhere? Make $20 off of us on top of the catering? WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT! That is such a great business model for failure. The repeat customers are the most important. All of the food we ordered was delicious, the special pasta with creamy tomato sauce and sausage was amazing, and they even made healthy lentil soup taste good! The food was all prepared on time for pickup, everyone wore masks, and were extremely helpful and friendly. Come here when I have meetings in San Clemente. Great place to grab some lunch. I absolutely love the shrimp salad. Dressing is delicious! They bread they give you has a lot of garlic so make sure you have mints for afterwards because the garlic definitely stuck around. Very delicious though!!!! I would love to try their other items but I simply LOOOVE the shrimp salad to much to pass up. Would definitely recommend! read more

Honestly, there is nothing on this menu that I dislike. I drive from Irvine just to get my Guichos fix. They just remodeled and expanded the restaurant because people love them that much and we definitely needed more places to sit. Super affordable and even more delicious! I love this place! I've grown up in an italian family so my family and I are very picky when it comes to sauce and the overall dish but this place was good enough to even please my dad! The portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. You get garlic bread with every dish and the service is both friendly, fast, and effective. My favorite is the fusilli special and arugula salad but i've also had the fettuccine alfredo, smoked salmon tagliatelle, giant ravioli, and pesto! None of them disappointed or were overly sweet or salty sauces. Highly recommend you to come:) read more

Dang! I have a hard time finding a good pasta joint and I found it here- hunnndreds of miles from home. My luck. I loved this place, nothing fancy just good food served piping hot and lots of it. I ordered Shrimp fettuccine and it was FABULOUS! My fried ordered the gluten free rigatoni with meatballs. She says its nearly impossible to find good gluten free pasta and this was understandably OK but the meatballs and sauce were excellent. She too would come back. What a great place- perhaps it's good I'm so far away, lord knows I don't need to eat this every day and I probably would! Keep up the good work. This place is very welcoming. The food reasonably priced. The risotto is by far the best I have ever had. I would pay to have them show me how to make it it was that good. My wife had the spaghetti and she loved it as well. I will be back again for sure Cons I understand the place is a to go place but the tables that are inside shouldn't be served with plastic ware and to go containers. This creates a lot of waste and trash that is not needed. Please reconsider this or switching to biodegradable products. read more

Great place but definitely a flaw in the lasagna they gave us. We ordered three lasagnas and one of them most definitely was sitting out way longer than the others. It was cold, and you can just tell by taking a look at the cheese. It would be nice if there were some Italian restaurants as good as Guichos in south county. Since Carbonara on Del Mar closed this place is your best choice. Every dish we have ordered, and we go there about once or twice a month is excellent. Just to let you know, I'm from NY and have had a lot of Italian food and grew up in an Italian family so i know what's good, we didn't get Sunday dinner from a jar. I bought a Turkey Sandwich to go and I have to say this was the best turkey sandwich I have ever had. It was made on a focaccia bread and the basil mayo was amazing. Up until now I have always had good experiences at Guicho's. The food is good and the girl's working there friendly and polite. Tonight was a completely differently experience. I called to order dinner, only to be told it would be an hour and a half late. That was disappointing since we were really looking forward it, and it was the second time I had called to order and not be able to. The last time was Valentine's Day, on which they were closed. I asked the girl on the phone why they had been closed that day, and she said it was because it was a Sunday. I replied that was a strange day for a restaurant to be closed. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I know Sunday's are busy, and bring in money. She replied that employees need a day off. Of course employees need a day off- that's why people work on different days, so that everyone gets time off. When I suggested Monday might be a better day for a restaurant to be closed she rudely replied, "Well, your opinion really doesn't matter," and hung up. Yep. That's customer service for you. When I called back to speak to a manager, they didn't answer and let it loop endlessly through the message and hold. When I called from a different number, and then asked for the manager, the girl that answered said he wasn't there. When I asked for his name and number, they put me on hold again, and never picked up again. That's what you get when you let teenagers run a restaurant I guess. read more
