***BE AWARE to new buyers*** They will try to sell you a used car that needs to be repaired immediately and pretend that there is nothing wrong with it. I bought a car from here a few months ago and I had an intermittent problem starting car from the day I purchased. I took it to the mechanic and I needed to pay $884 to replace my engine starter. They were very adamant that they didn't want to pay any money for me to replace the starter even though it should've been replaced it before I even purchased the car. Absolutely ridiculous. Buying/Selling used cars can be stressful but Gulliver is definitely worth checking if you want to sell/buy used cars. I wanted to sell my Toyota Corolla 2013 and been comparing the prices with a few dealers. I ended up choosing Gulliver because of the price and their services. The offer price from Gulliver was about same with others but Gulliver is more open for negotiations with full of used car knowledge and nation wide connections. Mr. Miyatake, who took care of me, also offered one of the best customer experiences. SUV started having problems one month after purchase with the Catalytic converter which was not covered under the power train warranty. 4 years later, found out that the car has been burning oil through the piston rings and damaging the catalytic converters. Mechanics say the condition and symptoms were probably there when I bought it. Will need to scrap due to smog regulations. read more

SHADY & DISHONEST doesn't begin to describe Gulliver USA on Santa Monica Blvd. DO NOT BUY OR SELL A CAR WITH THIS COMPANY! I am moving to NY on short notice so Gulliver seemed like the perfect solution to sell my Mercedes SUV. I filled out the company's online form and brought the car in the next day. Ryan Corry, the sales rep who responded via email, was pleasant and informative as he walked me through the process. I pointed out that the car needs new tires and had a minor accident which required the spare tire to be replaced. After a test drive and a detailed condition analysis, Ryan consulted with Brett Weisler, Gulliver's Sales Manager. I was then offered $61,000 to "buy" my car or $62,000 to "consign" my car. I chose to sell and after a futile attempt to get Ryan/Brett to raise the "buy" price to $62,000, we agreed on $61,000 and shook hands. Ten minutes later, Ryan said, "I've got some bad news, we're not gonna be able to buy your car" because, he claimed, the minor accident I told him about was going to reduce the value of my car at auction by 10%. Huh? Shouldn't they have factored that into the purchase price upon which we agreed and shook hands to close the deal? When I told Ryan that "my word is all I have and when I shake, a deal is a deal," he brought Brett into the conversation. Despite the fact that Brett's office is less than ten feet from the sofa on which we closed our deal, Brett claimed there was a "miscommunication" between he and Ryan. This would be laughable if it wasn't so dishonest and fraudulent. These two negotiated a deal, closed the deal, shook my hand and then used slimy tactics and shameful & dishonest deal making to try to get a better deal. Avoid this business at all costs. read more

Do not purchase a car here. If I could go back and do it over, I wouldn't even stop here. I came in looking for a model car that apparently they had promised to someone else, and found a VW Golf I was interested in. I am younger and female, and they likely took advantage of me. Our test drive was extremely short, limited to side streets, and when I asked for more time or to go on a highway to see how the car handled at speeds I was told no. To have an independent mechanic inspect the car, I had to have it towed over rather than have the mechanic see it there, or drive it there. I should have questioned that policy, but I didn't. They showed me their mechanic's report and indicated that everything was in perfect condition for a used car. A week after I bought the car, the check engine light came on. I took it in, and they diagnosed it as having a problem with the catalytic converter. They agreed to fix it for free, and after two days I got the car back. Ninety days later, I realized the car had been steadily leaking oil. I took it to my mechanic, and apparently it had a massive oil leak. When someone replaced the oil pan it was missing a part and rather than replace the part, had layered silicon around trying to fill the gap. A mechanic at Gulliver either did this shoddy repair or failed to notice it, either one of which is totally unacceptable. The mechanic said it was a huge red flag. I paid $900 for my mechanic to remove the transmission, get the part, fix the problem, and put in new oil. This is stuff out of "Matilda." When I called Gulliver, they said that's why they recommend warranties on their cars. I asked why they don't just make sure their cars are in the promised condition, and didn't get much of a response. Six months in, the transmission is failing. These people are negligent and take no responsibility for their products. I was insulted, my father was insulted, and in general I was treated poorly here. Brett, the internet sales manager, seemed like every slimy used car dealer I've ever met. Do not buy a car here. You'll waste your money. read more

Don't sell your car here. I live close to this place and saw the sign, "We BUY CARS" so why not? I tried them on my Toyota. While I was waiting for the appraiser, I was getting encouraging/ pep talk from the desk guy, so I thought they'll give me a reasonable offer. What? NO SIR, that didn't happen and when asked from the appraiser, he didn't bother explaining how he arrived at the ridiculous offer. My friend's roomate sold her car to Trade in solutions and told me to check them out. I am glad I did. They explained the whole process and gave me a great offer. Better than this company and the toyota dealer. I wouldn't have taken the time to write this review, if it wasn't the appraiser's attitude. read more

I bought Acura TL 2002 here two years ago. Their aftercare and advices have been nice, and I haven't had any trouble on my car yet. The deal was good and I don't have negative words for them. The Only thing they should do is parking. It's always full of their cars so usually tough to find the space to park in evening. read more

Ryan at Gulliver was very professional and seemed forthcoming with information about a car I sold to him. The dealership has been around since November of 2011 and it looks like it is in great shape. There was an area to sit with a refrigerator filled with several types of sodas and juices. There was also a Keurig coffee machine with K-Cups located nearby. I watched Law and Order while I waited...it was just comfy. If you are trying to sell a car and don't really want to hassle with big dealers I'd suggest Gulliver. read more

WOW seriously 5 stars! It's not possible to get better than this. Went to 4 other places in LA prior to selling my car here. In short, although I received reasonable quotes for my car which was in great condition, it always came with that aggressive "dealership" attitude where they treat you like you don't know what you're doing. Finally at Gullivers, my associate Shige was on his way home, but told me he'd gladly take care of me and to have a seat. Just 10 minutes later of examining and poking my car he negotiated with me the highest price out of any of the other dealers. Most importantly he did respectfully and I felt like a real customer instead of some kind of number. I usually only review food places, but this place deserves a big shout out. Heck, when I was sitting down, one of the other customers was being pretty rude, but the associate never lost his cool. Bottom Line: It is with great honor that I recommend Gullivers 5 stars and I will recommend this place to all my friends read more

What a bunch of rude, unprofessional idiots. I was looking to consign a vehicle, which their website said very clearly they do. I called in advance and was told that yes, they accept consignments and to bring the car in. When I got there, I was told by their manager that they don't do consignments, only buy directly. Thanks for wasting my time, guys. The manager here--who, for the record, was rude and condescending--stated that he used to manage their Westminster store. After going to other places, our friend recommended Gulliver USA. Our 1st impression was that of hesitation, because the men spoke Japanese as their primary language, and their English was a bit difficult to understand at 1st. After we refused the 1st offer, we were able to negotiate and the final amount was more than the other places offered. Overall, we were very happy with our experience. We signed the sales agreement on Tues., returned today (Thurs.) to turn in car, and receive the check. The employees are extremely polite, try really hard to communicate and made it easy by first saying and then pointing to the English. They do all of the transfer and DMV paperwork and were very transparent as they went through the paperwork with us. read more

After selling a company truck at a different Gulliver consignment location several years ago, I tried Gulliver again when it was time to sell a car of my own. Although they don't do consignments as much anymore due to their lot size, being a repeat customer & having a desirable make/model with low miles, they made an exception. Brett was excellent with communication via text, emails & phone calls on any updates in regards to the vehicle. They took photo's & posted them on several car buying websites.
