I came here and stumbled upon this new sushi restaurant and decided to try it tonight. The wait was about 15 minutes because it was kind of busy tonight. We were seated and our server Danny and Tyler were amazing. They were very attentive and helped us with all of our needs. Their customer service and vibe was spectacular. I really enjoyed dining here and the food was super duper good!!! We ordered the Cajun Salmon Tataki roll, the OMG roll, and the spring roll. Those rolls are soooo bomb! My favorite was the Cajun Salmon Tataki so you gotta try it! This place was kind of on the pricy side but definitely worth the high quality sushi! It was early to eat dinner around 4:30pm so the place was mostly empty. We were greeted and was given a booth. Nice decor and classy ambiance inside. The sashimi was fresh and sukiyaki bowl was big for one person. Little sweet for my taste but my niece enjoyed it. Gurume Sushi is located right next to OMOMO, and it first caught my eye because of it's corner location and somewhat trendy appearance. I decided to visit this new establishment with my girlfriend on a somewhat spontaneous dinner date. When we arrived, our host seemed very eager to serve us - almost with a childlike enthusiasm. We were seated immediately outside on a charming little patio. Our host asked us if we wanted to try something from their new drink menu. He recommended two drinks - and assured my partner and I that they would be sweet. Honestly speaking, the drinks were not great. One of them that was a bright red and garnished with an orange slice was unfortunately somewhat sour tasting despite its sweet appearance. The other, which looked significantly more sophisticated and was an off white in color was much more subtle in it's taste and had undertones of lychee, but there was also a somewhat unpleasant aftertaste that was almost chemical in nature. That being said, the food was enjoyable! We ordered the softshell crab appetizer - it was probably the least memorable of the dishes we ordered and had a bit too much breading, but the crab tasted fine. The rolls however were very interesting. One of them, the ocean tropical roll, was served in individual bowls, a total of five, and had a generous portion of fish. We also ordered the OMG roll and gurume fresh roll. Each roll tasted distinct which is always appreciated at a sushi restaurant - too often rolls taste too similar and everything blends together. Overall, Gurume Sushi is an earnest attempt at an upscale but still accessible sushi restaurant. I wish them the best of luck. The service was especially appreciated. read more

First I want to say that the food quality is very good. My low rating is mainly due to service issues. 1) We had two kiddos that needed booster seats and apparently their boosters do not even fit their seats! The host just shrugged it off and took the boosters away as if it was no big deal. You think they would've tested them out, right? To see if they fit their seats, right? 2) They did not provide any proper utensils for my little kids. Like they are supposed to use chopsticks? When I asked for spoons, they gave me soup spoons typical for ramen, etc. They saw the kids were having the lobster mac n cheese, so how in the world would a child eat that with such a spoon? It's like as if they have no idea how to service families with children. Seriously, they have NO clue. No crayons/coloring paper, no utensils, no small cups for water, no booster seats that actually work (which by the way is probably illegal). 3) We had a beef dish for the kids as well and we ended up not eating it due to the kids filling up on the mac and cheese. I handed my waiter the beef dish and said can you please pack this up. When we were about to leave, I realized they never gave me the doggy bag. Guess what? They ended up throwing it away. They were willing to make another order for us, which initially was the least they can do, but they put the beef in a paper box and just handed it to me, with no bag to carry it. Unbeknownst to me, the box tilted in my car and the juice from the beef spilled all over my Range Rover seats. 4) We ordered some diet cokes and realized right away that the soda was flat! We reported it to our waiter "Johnny" and was told he would look into it, but unfortunately, he never resolved the issue and still we ended up getting charged for it! What kind of service is that? 5) At the end of the lunch we started to notice that our plates were not being cleared from the table. There were 3 to 4 staff members just standing inside doing nothing, and our table was covered with empty dishes, bowls, etc. It was a mess and no one came out to clear it up for us which was quite a shocker. 6) They knew it was a birthday lunch, yet, the service was very poor and not even a complimentary dessert, which was pretty lame when you are spending close to $300 for lunch. No manager came out to apologize, nor ask how the meal went. Either their staff is completely undertrained, or there is some bias because we were not Japanese. Overall, kudos on the food as it was very good, but I was totally blown away by the poor service. read more

Honestly I was really disappointed with the toro and sashimi. My toro had chewy pieces that I have never dealt with before this should be a perfect piece that melts in your mouth. My salmon sashimi was fishy and if you know salmon sashimi it's never fishy. Presentation was beautiful and service was good. The lobster Mac and cheese is very good and not overly rich and oily. I visited this new restaurant twice last week. It's very rare that I frequent the same place so often. Why? Because I wanted to try the lunch special. On Monday, my friend and I ordered Sashmi plate , $50 and a sushi plate. The $50 sashimi came with 25 pieces (?), if I counted correctly. That's many pieces of fresh fish. We were very full. We spotted their lunch special grandiose spread and we both decided to return soon. I brought a group of four friends to try the lunch special on Saturday. We all loved it. Later I found out my Monday friend also returned on the same week, on Thursday , to get the lunch special. Boy, did we just enjoy it so much? Service is great. Food portions and taste are both better than most of Japanese restaurants in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place! read more

Phenomenal sushi. They are incredibly pricey selling at $4 apiece (minimum, some go to $10 apiece) but the experience they bring is worth the price tag for me. The fish were fresh and thick-cut, so they definitely stood out among the other sushi places. Now the not-so-good part. Dinner started with a cup of miso soup, which is a standard thing in Japanese restaurants. But the cup I was presented with had a few flakes of seaweed, no tofu, no green onion, nada. From that point, I knew the rest was gonna be awful. Besides the sushi, I also ordered a beef hibachi yaki meal that costs $30. When compared with all the food I ate in Japan when I lived there for 3 years, the entree itself does not resemble anything Japanese, rather it is strikingly similar to Stir fried Japchae (잡채볶음), a Korean dish, but minus the glass noodles. What's worse was that I found a long string of PLASTIC inside the entree. The rest of the tray was mediocre at best. Luke warm and soggy tempura, not-so-crunchy fried tofu, and bland-tasting cold plates. The salad was probably the best thing on that tray. Asking $30 for these was basically a robbery. If all tray meals are priced around $20 (like what they shown on their website), it would be cool. So it turns out the staff were Koreans. I'm fine with different ethnic groups cooking each other's cuisine. I'm Chinese and have been consistently impressed by non-Chinese-ran Chinese restaurants. But when you present an overtly Korean dish and call it Japanese Beef Hibachi Yaki and ask for an insane price, that's not very cool, that's borderline scam. read more

Very disappointed with the slow service here. I've been wanting to try this place since I live across the street. Came in with my daughter it took 15 minutes just to bring us waters. First they bring my daughter her sushi roll while I waited over 30 minutes for my food to come out. Of course my daughter finishes first and is impatient waiting for her mom to finish her lunch. I saw 2/3 other tables who sat down after us receive their food first which is disappointing. With my lunch special Chirashi I received no salad or soup and had to remind the waiters. Never once did they ask how anything was until I asked for the check in the end. Also it's a sushi restaurant shouldn't you bring out the wasabi and ginger in the beginning? Not afterwards when your sushi is served. No waters, wasabi/ginger/salad and soup. Had to even ask for water refills, everything they were not on top of it as waiters. As other reviewers have already mentioned, the "positive" reviews seem to be from friends and family of the establishment. Based on my own personal experience, I would recommend that everyone read the positive reviews with a grain of salt! For starters, I always give any establishment a fair chance, even if one interaction wasn't that great. However, the moment I walked in, I could sense that this would not be a pleasant experience. The hostess was beyond rude, almost comically so. She literally made eye contact with me before proceeding to pretend she couldn't see me. It took me saying "hello" several times and almost leaning over the counter before she acknowledged my existence with a SIGH. Even then, I can usually overlook poor greetings from hosts if our server/service is great. But to make matters worse during this meal, the service was incredibly slow and inattentive. It took ages for someone to take our order, and when the food finally arrived, it was clear that no care had been taken in its preparation. The staff seemed disinterested, and it was a struggle to get their attention when we needed something. The food was also terrible and this isn't "authentic" Japanese food. Look, I love me some quick and fast sushi rolls, but if the restaurant is going to bill itself as "luxury" and "authentic" while pricing it's dishes at a high-end level, then I think it's ok to expect a certain level of quality and taste. Some of the items to note were: -DIY Handroll Set: I was so excited by this as my favorite has been at Izakaya Osen and I was looking forward to another take. Unfortunately, the way the fish was cut and prepared was worse than regular poke places. They were cubed inconsistently with strings of fish flesh hanging off. The fish also wasn't fresh, and the restaurant tried to mask the odor with over-the-counter spicy sauces and soy sauce. Even with half a cup of spicy mayo, I could still smell the rotten fish smell. -Appetizers: All tasted like they were straight out of a jar. Like I mentioned before, I'm ok with eating that Red number 5 pickled radish, but at over $30 an entrée, you can't throw me three little pieces of that stuff and call it a day. -Rolls: Horribly executed. The seaweed was falling apart, and anytime I lifted the roll up the rice and fish would just spill out onto the table. It was obviously that the "chef" just slapped the roll together with no care at all. -Miso Cod Set: The biggest insult of all at $35 a set. They tried to pawn of the most miniature piece of cod (I swear it was 2 inches by 2 inches) that was not only small, but overcooked, rubbery, and tasted of old fish. Absolutely no thought to the small dishes. If you'd like to overpay for a piece of old fish then by all means order this set. Long story store: RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I can live with certain things like OK service, but good food OR amazing service and ok food. This place is just bad, bad, bad! read more
