I also tried the Maya hot chocolate, which was delicious, along with the sparkling cranberry juice. Our server was friendly and attentive, and we grabbed a few pastries from the front beforehand . They were all so good, but the savory goat cheese and tomato pastry was definitely a favorite. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the freshness and quality of the food. Both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Michael's Kitchen is only open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. We arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and had about a 30 minute wait. It was busy, but the wait was actually enjoyable because the restaurant has several little nooks filled with antiques and artwork by local artists. There was plenty to look at, and the time passed quickly. Taos has many wonderful mom and pop restaurants, but from what I learned during our visit, there are fewer locally owned restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try all of them, but I'm very happy we chose Michael's Kitchen. Between the authentic food the welcoming atmosphere and Chaniece's outstanding service, it was one of the highlights of our visit to Taos.

The dishes nuanced smoothly with robust umami essences and delicate savory kicks! The experience of the food left all my sensations arresting. It was meticulously executed and left me very satisfied as a customer. Overall I had an immersive dining experience that would only lead to my recommendations to others. The other reviews really make this restaurant an understated luxury. Durring a previous visit I also had a brief but impactful experience with the chef, Cristina Martinez. She is as iconic as she sounds with her deep roots in New Mexico. From my personal intrest I found out that she attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and graduated with honors in 2006. The college heavily focuses on precision knife work, classic sauces, plating discipline, and traditional culinary terminology. You can tell that she puts love into the work she accomplishes and reflects authentic New Mexican family traditions while keeping things professional. Great varied menu, yummy sweet yellow and spicy red pepper sauces served separately- make sure to ask for them when your food comes! A favorite for me is to order their hot Mexican/Mayan chocolate with chili and have them add 2 shots of espresso! Delicious pastries too, if you get there early enough. You can ask for organic eggs, the crepes with Brie are great, the egg tower is a lot of food, the eggs benedict is even better with spinach added to it. I've been a resident of Taos for the past 7 years and Gutiz is, without a doubt, one of my favorite places to eat in the area. I have never had any problems regarding service and the food is AMAZING.
