Underwhelming amount of ingredients.
Gary C.

I've been to Gyro Shack numerous times, way too many to count. I went on 11-18 with a friend who rarely goes. The gyro tasted good, but the amount of ingredients waned in comparison to what is usually in the pita. In all reality, it was weak and disappointing. Just a look at the pic tells all, they are usually stuffed full. I hope my next visit to one of these Shacks is much better.

This place has not much to do with the original Gyro Shack. They have no clue how to make an authentic greek Gyro. The meat is cut before it's brown and they put it in a heated container!!!! WTF, that needs to go fresh onto your gyro! Stay away if you have european roots, you'll be disappointed.

Huron shack is one of my favorite places in town for a great gyro, hummus and pita. For the price and speed though, it cannot be beat.

This is the best Gyro in Boise, and I've been looking for 30 years. At $2.99 it's also a GREAT value.

Best Dolma and Shawarma ever! Very relaxing and quiet environment, will be coming back.read more

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant given all the highly positive reviews. To…read morebe clear - this is for the restaurant, not the market. Service - 1 star. After being the only two sitting in the restaurant for 10 minutes, someone brought us menus. Another 10 later, they came back for our order. It was a tad frustrating because an item I wanted to order had a well-worn sticker blocking it out. Placed our food and drink order. Several minutes later, someone different came from the back and said one of the two items was also not available. So another item was chosen. Drinks were not delivered (tea and a water) until the food came 20 minutes later. And the water was a tiny 8-ounce bottle of water. 1.5 hours and we were the only diners. That says something. Food - Of what we could order, the chicken tikka was good but not amazing. 4 stars. The lamb kabob was amazingly bland and tough. So disappointing as I typically love lamb. 2 stars. The hummus was thin and tasted too sour with no flavor dimension to it. Was it old? Better hummus has a slight nutty flavor to it and this needed more garlic. 3 stars. Rice actually had decent flavor. 4 stars. We had both the pistachio and walnut baklava. As a baklava connoisseur, the walnut was far better flavor and texture but both seemed dry and old. Bread was okay. When I look at the number or reviews from those in CA or OR with less than 5 reviews on their account (all giving 5 stars) - it seems clear that people want free baklava or hot tea, as they advertise at the table when you sit down. But they need to read your review first before getting the token item. I have better ethics and higher standards than that. Maybe the restaurant section is on the slide. For a $20 entree, not worth it. There is better in Boise.

A friend of mine practically lives here- every other day, like clockwork- and the last time I joined, he ordered a full mezze-style spread that felt straight out of the Mediterranean coast: impossibly creamy hummus, cool and garlicky tzatziki, perfectly seasoned kebabs, fresh veggies, warm pita... dish after dish, each one better than the last. This is a casual, no-frills kind of place- so don't come expecting anything overly polished or upscale. The missing star from others? It's purely about the ambiance. But the food? That's a full five. What really shines is the quality, the authenticity, and the consistency. Everything tastes fresh, vibrant, and nourishing- the kind of meal that feels both indulgent and genuinely good for you. Add in friendly, welcoming service, and it's easy to see why people keep coming back.

However, we had a double date planned and Kosta's was chosen for us. One of the best choices ever. The atmosphere is welcoming from the moment you walk in; friendly greeting within seconds of walking in, calming colors of blue and white adorn every wall with charming tablecloths on each table, and cute decor. Service was immediate with a carafe of water and a huge smile. I loved the vibe! Ordered a German Hefeweizen that came cold and frothy. Next came the Greek salad with the most juicy, crisp tomatoes, green peppers and cucumbers, then heavily sprinkled with feta cheese, a pinch of capers, and a side of the best Greek dressing I've ever tasted. I was originally taken aback that there was no lettuce, but real Greek salad doesn't have lettuce! I had no idea. Hubby and I shared the Broiler Mix from the appetizer menu so we could sample multiple items. The Broiler mix has 2 chicken skewers, 2 beef skewers, 2 Kefta patties, 2 chorizo, 2 pitas, fries, tomato wedges and a healthy dollop of tzatziki. The pita tasted homemade; it was soft, thick without being too think and didn't taste chalky. The skewers were exceptionally cooked...tender, flavorful pieces of chicken and beef. The kefta (lamb & beef) patties had a nice texture, which was enhanced with the herbaceous tzatziki sauce. The only disappointment was the chorizo as it was overcooked and dry. It was easy to overlook as everything else was a shining star. We would go back in a heartbeat....totally made me want to explore more Greek food there!

I was very excited to try the falafel in particular, which I had heard great reviews about. I ordered the Gyro Plate with a side of Falafel. Based on the photo menu, I expected the falafel to come with some kind of a dipping sauce. I also ordered a side of garlic sauce for my gyro meat. The owner Mohammed was very friendly and outgoing. I enjoyed speaking with him. There was another gentleman working with him, who was cooking in the back. Mohamed answered all of my questions. One of the things I wanted to know before I ordered was if they were using one of the popular brands of gyro meat such as Kronos, which and you can purchase just about anywhere. I was told they did not. I was impressed to see that this business serves Coke from Mexico. I commented on that to Mohammed, including that I haven't had real Coke since I was a teenager. He insisted on giving me one to drink while I wait. It was excellent! My food came out fairly quickly. I drove home and opened the box to discover that the cook forgot to give me any sauce for my falafel, nor was there any garlic sauce. I really enjoyed the gyro meat. The falafel was pretty good but needed a little more seasoning, as did the hummus. The small salad had good flavor. I did not care for the pita bread. It was very thin and seemed a bit dry. I've been postponing my review in hopes of being able to revisit this business and try some more of their food, but it's been a while since I've seen them around. I'm hoping they will see this review and let me know if they have a new location.
