Unclean! They got my order wrong, twice. The taste we okay, not great. I got water from the soda fountain and there we a ton of black sediment in it! Gross! When we ordered through the drive through and came up to the window they spoke back WHOLE DIFFERENT order. And then went back and fixed it. We waited about 30+ mins for our food and once we got our food they missed a whole gyro and drink order and so we waited another couple mins for them to notice we were still sitting there in the drive through and then waited another 10 or so minutes for them to get out the one gyro. Today was my first visit to the Gyro Shack and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The little drive thru shack doesn't look like much when you drive by so I never thought it would be memorable I guess. I was running errands in the area so I thought why not and felt adventurous to try something new. The reviews on yelp were very favorable also making me feel a bit better about my decision. I was immediately greeted by a gentleman at the window who took the time to tell me about their menu. I told him it was my first time there so he said he would give me some time to review the menu and also pointed out their special of the day which was the spicy gyro, choice of side and a 20 oz. drink. I think he may have been the owner but was not sure. I decided on the special for the day and got the green spicy sauce since he said it was home made from jalalpenos and cilantro. I also got the Greek salad as my side. The gyro was very good and the salad was very fresh combination of cukes, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and feta cheese with dressing on the side. I didn't even need the dressing it was so delicious!! Because it was my first visit he also gave me a free order of baklava dessert!! Excellent customer service. I would do Four and a half stars if I could only because they offer Pepsi products and I am a coke person and no where to sit so it's hard to eat in your car unless you can it eat it some where but it won't stop me from coming back!! read more

4 stars is the highest I review for a fast food joint because it is not fair to the high end dining places such as Chandler's who offer a much more intricate experience. What I love about the Gyro shack is you would never guess such amazing fresh food comes out of such a tiny place. Being a Michigan/Detroit native I was spoiled with the best Greek food and have been searching in Idaho for something that compares. My many ventures brought me to the Gyro shack where I was not dissapointed! This place is FAST even though it may seem packed you will not wait very long. My visit consisted of 2 Gyros in the middle of the lunch rush, 8 cars (4 on each side) were in front of us and it still only took 15 mins. In a matter of moments I had hot fresh pita bread encasing steamy succulent strips of lamb, the Gyro comes with tomatoes, onions, and tiziki sauce for the perfect combo. Guess what I paid $3.49! I moved away from Boise 3 and a half years ago. I used to love the gyro shack and missed them so much. When we left they had opened 2 new locations. But the price had doubled in like 2 years. I would've given two stars and one was lost because - The attention to my order was not followed, salad was missing item(s). The meat on the salad was cold, as if it were refrigerated and not freshly carved. Sauces were meh. Gyro Shack is the quick option for a good gyro in Boise. While they don't have a dine-in establishment, two drive through windows makes it easy to get to go. In the summer, they have outside tables to sit at and enjoy your spiced meats. I usually go with the deluxe combo meal because the lamb gyro has feta and tzatziki on it. I take a side of tzatziki as well; it's the best in Boise, hands down. Plus, they have Mountain Dew in the drink fountain, which always makes me happy. You'll come away smelling like onion, but your belly will be happy. The owner seems like a nice chap. We will not be coming back to this establishment. We have frequented this location because it is close to our house, but each time we have gone, it has gotten exponentially worse. Tonight's visit was the cherry on top to turn us away for good. We ordered our original gyros, with one having hardly any tomatoes on it. When we got to the window to pay, our order was 25.00 and some change. We went to pay with a 50.00 and were told they would not accept it. When asked why, the employee tried to make up some crapshoot excuse about something with a currency shortage, but to honest wasn't sure but that was his guess. 1) When you aren't busy (we were the only car in the lot and drive thru, that we actually thought they were closed) it's not smart to be turning away business. Our change would have been a couple 10s and some ones. Not a huge impact. 2) Don't try and lie to me about why you're not accepting currency; especially to someone who works in the banking industry. Cash is an accepted currency and if you aren't going to accept 50s or 100s, don't accept cash at all. 3) Posting a sign at the window instead of the speaker is horrible practice, especially when the sign is 12 pt. font at best, shredded, hard to read and when the customer only has 50s on them. There are other places that will happily accept our cash and larger currencies for food. Turning away business is the quickest way for me to go somewhere else, which is what we will do. read more

I have never had lamb before or a gyro. I had the super and it was ok, I think there was too much goin on for me. I really couldn't tell what was beef or lamb because it all tasted like lamb. It had a really different flavor that I am not used to. This was the food truck that came to my work and I decided to give it a shot. Probably will try the chicken bacon ranch and that would probably be what my favorite gyro would be from them just knowing my preference. Love the new updates to this store. The menu added the addition of making an Gyro into a rice bowl or a salad! I had a particular good experience with a gal on Friday. I dont recall her name but she had blue hair, sweet smile. And was very personable at the window! She added a fun touch to the place by speaking so positively about the menu. Good representation of this company and just made my Friday better. As for the menu, I've never been unhappy with any menu item and LOVE the ranch they have. I recently moved to the Boise area. As I drove around I started seeing Gyro Shacks scattered here and there. I have had great Gyros in other parts of our country and abroad. So, much to my surprise when I stopped in for a quick bite at one of these little unassuming little shacks I had my mind blown! The quality and freshness of everything on their menu was outstanding. As mentioned earlier, they now have a real restaurant. There are some hurdles to overcome, the store could be cleaner, but the food was great. I bet you that there is less then 10% meat init, cant really tell the difference between the normal and deluxe they both where the same , just order the normal one and get the add ons but ask for it in the side so you will really get it. Staff was a little rude to us but whatever we will probably not come back because the food is not worth it not the staff thing , that's kind of a management problem. Its just overall not very good quality food. I think the good reviews are staff working there because there is no way someone would give this place 5 start. Like it's not hard to make a good gyro. Always get the spicy when I go. But since they have closed the all drive thru and opened the dine in on overland things have really gone to hell. If you go there later than 7 or so you get luke warm meat and usually very dried out ie old stuff. If you go at lunch I hope you have an hour because the drive thru is slow slow slow. Today I pulled in, 4 cars ahead of me. 17 minutes later still 1 car ahead of me. I pulled out and left as I don't have an hour for lunch. Maybe put in an intercom so people in line could get their orders in instead of ordering at the window and waiting and waiting and waiting. Better yet, open the Drive thru spot back up! Keeping in mind that you don't get any type of side (fries, side salad, etc) with the gyro but still paying the $7-8 price tag ;( The good part is the quality of the gyro has not decrease which typically happens when prices go up. Not sure if I just like Greek food or if this place is really drool-worthy. Either way, I approve highly. I just happened to be in the area on my semi-day off (yay teachers!) and decided to treat myself. The poor students who I worked with after dealt with my onion/garlic breath but it was totally worth it. The gyro came with feta, large serving of meat, tomato, onion, tzatziki and other lovely, goodness. When you order, you have the option of either the combo (side and drink) or just the entree. I had the combo, hence why I also got pita bread. Other options include Greek salad, pita and hummus and some other things. I stopped listening after I decided on bread and tzatziki. It ran me about $7. The drive through at 11:00 on Wednesday was fairly quick. Took about 5 minutes but the food was fresh! As soon as I got my food, I pulled ahead to a parking space and scarfed it all down. I will be back in the near future. read more
