They don't do a very nice presentation, they serve them from a shack so there's no dining room, and it's straight off Overland so I hope you like traffic noise. That said? Really good, really cheap. This is the kind of hole-in-the-wall place everybody needs to have for a quick meal of yummy comfort food. The portions are large and the gyros are delicious. We prefer the regular gyro because the deluxe is a little too "kitchen sink" for our tastes (it includes feta, hummus, srirracha sauce, and other non-traditional additions). The Greek salad is great, but the house dressing tastes like musty dried herbs; do yourself a favor and order it with their excellent tzatziki instead. Keep in mind, this place is a "shack" and there is no indoor dining. They have a few benches you could sit on outside, but you'll be just a few yards from all the traffic and exhaust of Overland Road. We always get our food to go. The Gyro Shack in Napa, Idaho is scrumptious! My husband and I have had 4 different gyro's and we've loved every bite of each one. Well, except the Philly one I had tonight. I always have been scared to go here because I was unfamiliar with Gyros! Glad we went and will be returning. Went through the drive through and the wait was very appropriate maybe 4-5 minutes and there wasn't a line :) Staff was friendly YAY! Food was tasty!! YAY!! Chicken Gyro Deluxe had good flavor and was refreshing to have a different taste grace our palets! WE REALLY ENJOYED THE TURKEY BACON AVOCADO PITA! They really fill those bad boys up and loved the taste!! Also ordered a small villiage greek salad, the greek dressing was fresh tasting and the feta was yummy along with the cucumbers and olives...I really liked it and I usually am salad ranch only snob! 2/20/17 update to my review and reduction by a star I understand costs go up, and I've been coming here for a long time. So when menu items increased almost 20% I was like okay. And when they started charging 25cents for the formerly no charge side of tzatziki I was also like okay. But as of late the quality of meat seems to have gone down. So if prices are going up and quality is going down, this is a concern to me. Now, the once free, then 25cent side of tzatziki is $1. That's right. ONE DOLLAR. It is 2 oz. - or about 2 tbspns of yogurt. I get that you're trying to open a new location, and I understand the concept of costs increasing over time, but to stick it to your regulars so you can open your new downtown prime real estate location? Just Crummy business practice. And when the quality of meat is declining at th same time, I'm About over it. really sad. This has been one of my favorite places in Boise for many years. Wow. Yum. I grew up in a small town with a Greek café that made the best gyros ever. Because of this I've been kind of ruined for life and very picky about gyros. I even spent years duplicating the tzatziki recipe that came from *a small world Café* and just decided I'd have to make them at home to be satisfied. I decided to try the gyro shack today and there were six cars lined up on each side. My only complaint is that their menu should be further back in the line so one can decide what they want before they get to the window. Yelp does not have a link to the website/menu but it is online so I searched and found the menu while I waited. I ordered the deluxe(double meat) original gyro because my experience with gyros is always that there's a lot of pita and not very much meat. However next time I think I will just do the original because there was so much meat on this thing I could hardly eat it. And the meat felt *clean*. Not overly processed. I like that. There was the perfect amount of white onion without being TOO onion-y and the tomatoes were wonderful tomatoes red, juicy and real (although I am sure this will differ based on the time of year) The pita was fresh and fluffy. Definitely my new guilty pleasure. The gyro was very good. The Greek fries were incredible. We were too full for the side salads but they looked tasty and even included kalamata olives. Docked a star because we ate in and it was swarming with flies. So gross. We had to bat them away the whole meal. That said, I'd go here again in a heartbeat. read more

The first one I got they put spicy sauce that wasn't supposed to be on there and when they remade it they put the wrong ingredients and there was a hair in it. The gyros are tasty, but when we tried to order ahead we got to the restaurant and they hadn't even started our order when we came to pick it up. Then we got a fountain drink and there were a bunch of black specks in it that looked like someone dumped a bunch of dirt in it. I ordered and paid for extra tatziki sauce and when I opened my gyro there was no tatziki sauce at all . I'm sure this is just from the drive through window being constantly open but there were at least 10 flies flying around our table. The staff is friendly and they're always quick. The pita bread is always soft, the meat hot and juicy, the tzatziki creamy and delicious. I usually get the deluxe gyro in a combo, with hummus and pita. The hummus serving is more than generous, and I often order an extra pita so I can enjoy every last bit of creamy, delicious hummus. This place is absolutely fantastic. My girl and I wanted to stop somewhere around Boise for lunch because it halfway between our looong drive from our current hometown in Washington and our old hometown in Utah. We try to avoid chains, and although we wanted something quick and cheap, there was no way we were doing fast food. Lo and behold we found Gyro shack and it was everything we wanted and more. I got the spicy avocado bacon gyro, milady got the standard gyro and we shared a large strawberry lemonade, all for about $11. Everything was unbelievably delicious! My gyro was packed with meat, the pita was warm and soft, the tzatziki was great and my gyro was actually spicy, as it claimed to be. The strawberry lemonade even had real strawberries in it. This place is a dream come true, and we look forward to returning every time we drive through Boise. The ONLY bad thing is that it doesn't appear to be open on Sundays, which makes me a sad panda because I can't get a gyro today. :( read more

I have always avoided eating at places like food trucks, and buffets. The Gyro Shack is...well its as the name says. Its a very small shack. It looks like it may have been one of those road side coffee places at one time. its a very small little building that you drive up to and place you order. I would say it is a food truck that has taken root. It no longer has the wheels that it once had. Driving up to this shack, I was not impressed at all, but I was determined to keep an open mind. After all, most all of the reviews that this place gets are glowing. I ordered the spicy gyro. I was happy to see that they offer you the option of getting double meet, so that is what I got. My daughter was with me, so I also got her the original Gyro, except for her; sauce on the side, no onions and no tomato. Basically, just the meat on pita bread. I hoped and prayed that my picky little eater would be ok with this. Well, I was wrong. My daughter did eat a few bites, but trashed the rest. I was proud of her for at least trying to eat it. After I tried mine, I could understand though. Though I liked the meat, I could tell it would be pretty spicy for her. My daughters idea of hot sauce is ketchup. Anything beyond that spice level is usually too much for her. Even now sitting at my computer writing this, I am still burping up garlic. I love Garlic and usually cant get enough of it. My Gyro looked good, but then I tasted it. While I wont say it was bad, I would not say that it was really good either. The meat was dry and lifeless. It looked and tasted like it had been cooked the day before, or perhaps more than a day before, and left under a heat lamp or in a hot dry place like an oven or warmer. On my Meat-O-Meter, I would give it a 5. All my scales are 1 to 10 with 10 being the best. I have yet to find a place in Boise that I would give a 10 too. A 10 would be one of those meals that borders on a spiritual experience. The pita bread was fine. It was probably store bought, so I wont even bother to give it a rating. The Tzatziki sauce did not have much flavor. I could see the dill it it, but if I had not seen it, I would not have known there was anything in it at all. It might as well have been just yogurt. It was pretty hard to tell what it was made from since I could not taste much of anything. On my Tzatziki-O-Meter, I give it a 4. I have had better sauce in the store. Drum roll please. On my Gyro-O-Meter, I give this sandwich an overall score of 5. It just did not really taste Greek to me. The meat tasted old, dry, and the garlic flavor was over powering. The Tzatziki did not really do much for the sandwich at all. I also had an order of Baklava. The order consisted of two pieces. I am a baklava connoisseur. I live to eat good baklava. I have looked and looked for good baklava somewhere in the Boise area. It used to be that the Boise Co-Op carried good Baklava, but they don't anymore. The only place that I know where you can get really good die-for Baklava is at the Greek Food Festival downtown. Its coming up in May and I cant wait! The Baklava at the Festival is pretty darn close to that 10 rating. Yeah, its that good! I decided to try it here. I was mostly dough, which is usually a good indication that its store bought. Most places don't want to use much of the ingredients and use mostly dough because the dough is a lot cheaper. The Baklava tasted like sweet philo dough. I could not taste the filling at all. What was supposed to be a nice honey based sauce was...well it was just sweet. I could not make it any distinct favor to it at all. It was just sweet. Good Baklava is ground up Walnuts and Almonds wrapped up in Philo dough with an amazing honey based sauce. If you have not had good Baklava, mark your calendar for the Greek Food Festival and get some!!! Its one of those pastries that will make you want to go slap your mama, but only if its done right. Don't buy it in the store. You will be sorely disjointed and dont get it at The Gyro Shack either. I was not impressed at all and will probably not come here again. read more

I got the combo with pita and hummus. I enjoyed both. My dad got the more traditional one and he said it was tasty. Only reason not 5 star... No fries... Gotta have my gyro with fries. I think I'll stick to the original from now on, but their meat is excellent and the pitas extra fluffy. And CHEAP. Actually a pretty good gyro for being a "drive up". The lamb is good, but my favorite is the chicken bacon ranch...its yummy! The tzatziki sauce is my favorite...it is fresh and good! I spoke with the owner once right after they got their food truck and he was super nice and helpful. I was actually asking for a fork for some food I had bought elsewhere, which he gave me without any grief. I can only speak to the original as both a single entree as well as the combo but they're absolutely wonderful. This is truly a little "shack!" I was in Boise for work, had a late meeting and was starving on my way back to my hotel. I had a hankering for a gyro sammie, so of course I searched Yelp for the best gyro I could take out, close to my hotel and was a little surprised when I pulled up to the Gyro Shack to find that it's actually a little shack instead of a store front. This was our first time ordering from the Gyro Shack. My husband ordered a gyro and the spicy gyro with red sauce. He liked both and said he preferred the spicy one. I ordered the deluxe gyro. All were prepared very well. Fresh ingredients and substantial portions. We also ordered the fries. They were crinkle cut and really tasty. I asked my husband if he would want to order from here again and he said most definitely. That is the most telling answer. The delivery was quick and contactless. I had lunch here today with a couple co-workers and it was fantastic. Thank you Yelp for directing me toward a great restaurant that I might not have tried but for the reviews. I was looking for something sit-down but not fancy. Mediterranean food is always a top choice for me. Dont let the drive up shack turn you off. They really make an amazing gyro and super friendly service. I ordered "the ultimate" and it was incredible. Tasty, fresh ingredients, gyro meat, chicken AND bacon, yummmmm!
