Went to the habit on Golden lantern in Dana point today. I was so impressed with the customer service. Previously I quit coming because of ambivalent management. Ambivalent to customer service and didn't provide a good environment. That has certainly changed. Management has really learned a lesson here taking the bull by the horns and changed the direction of this restaurant. The food was always good and it still is, but there's good food in a lot of places. What made the difference today was how I was treated and how I witnessed others being treated. As luck would have it one of the corporate individuals just happen to be at this store. His commitment to not only this store, but the company as a whole was very evident. The GM of the store and everybody I saw were on the same trail. That of a first class place that you were glad you went to and look forward to coming back. Although I appreciate their effort to position this spot as fast food with a drive-thru, it's not exactly quick, which is fine since you know everything is made fresh to order. I probably would have given fewer stars if I had been last in line. I ordered a burger and halfsies onion rings and sweet potato fries, and it took about 7 minutes to get my food. Imagine everyone else behind me... there were four cars, so the last car could have waited up to 30 minutes! Ultimately, I've come to the conclusion that Habit just doesn't hit the spot for me. The app was easy to order from, but this restaurant left a lot to be desired. The single cheeseburger was put together like a 3 year old built it. the buns weren't even lined up so before I took off the wrapper it was already falling apart, they half filled the fry tray, my wife's salad was done right, then the orange creamsicle shake I ordered was made as chocolate. The food is left unattended when you walk in, so maybe someone took my shake. Service under prior management for years was slow with a happy face behind the counter rarely to be seen. Food was good, but when prices went up, we stopped coming here. Looks like this location has since had a change in management and also offer new competitively priced "Gotta Habit" meal deals. Food is still pretty good and hits the spot. The new manager, Alfredo, is a rockstar!!! You can tell his team feeds off of his constant positivity and high energy. He's going 100 miles per hour and leading a newly motivated (and happy) staff to crank out order after order! Managers can learn a lot by training at this location and watching how Alfredo operates. Probably the worst burger experience ever!! Ordered takeout, a double char and onion rings. Picked up and came home to find the onion rings at the bottom with the napkins I had requested crumpled on top of the rings and then the burger smashing everything down. Seventy-five percent of the time our drive-through order is either missing items or incorrect. We end up having to drive back to get what was forgotten, and the staff doesn't seem to care. Today we went inside the restaurant to avoid any issues. Unfortunately, the order was still wrong. We were given French fries instead of tempura green beans. When we pointed it out, the employee appeared irritated but replaced them. Then we asked for teriyaki sauce that was supposed to be in our ahi, which had also been forgotten. She again seemed put out and tried to charge us 65 cents for the sauce. This employee should not be in a customer service role. Ordered a chicken club. Waited 8 minutes at the drive thru window. I was the only one in line! They handed me the bag sideways, and I laid it the same way on my front seat for the 2 short 2 minute ride home. I carried the bag inside to find the lid popped off and ALL ingredients at the bottom of the bag. After trying to salvage some assemblage of a sandwich, I checked the box the sandwich came in. The food at this location seems stable along with the well serviced employees who make sure you feel welcomed upon arrival. It is super calm in this establishment not too much chaos going on and this was during lunch they have a few kiosks you can use to self order. This time I did not want to go wait in line at in and out so door dashes from the habit instead and I remember now why I dont like to order from the habit. In the past I've ordered the veggie burger which I thought was good quality and came back for more. Then yesterday 3/7/2025, I had a veggie burger and the quality went way down. The bun had gotten way smaller and flat compared to a regular bun, and the burger was over fried. The lettuce was subpar, and the grilled onions on the burger were mushy. I don't much care for fast food these days. It tends to be cheap, empty, manufactured flavor that leaves me feeling deep regret about some of my life decisions. For those of you that like fast food, I am sorry... No, I'm not. It's garbage. I met up with a buddy for drinks and we chatted until around 9. Around here everything closes at that time so your options are typically reduced to nothing more than fast food. I decided to stop by the Habit on my way home because Taco Bell was really the only other option, but I don't hate myself enough to do that. I should have just gone home. 1. Pulled up to the drive through - youthful male voice came on the speaker with ZERO welcome/greeting - "Whenever you're ready" was all I got. 2. I made a selection and heard some garbled mumbling and just assumed he wanted me to pull forward? So I pulled forward. 3. I then waited in line for about 10 or so minutes before even moving again. There were 4 vehicles in front. 4. After about 15min I pulled up to the window but only because the car in front of me just left without stopping. Likely upset with the speed of service as well. 5. I sat at the window for 10 or so minutes. No one ever walked over to take money or even greet me. There were at least 4 people in the kitchen and at one point I made direct eye contact with the manager and still... Nothing. The kid that took my order was preparing food and seemed to be the only person in the place actively preparing food. I eventually just pulled away and went home. I will never visit this place again. The quality of customer service would be the only redeeming factor for a fast food restaurant since the food is so awful... I couldn't even get service and I also got no food, fail and fail! read more
