This review is for the happy hour at Habitant, which is from 3-6pm daily. The location was quite easy to find, as it was located in Nordstroms. We were able to get seated righted away (on a weekday, around 5pm) but it was still fairly busy, with only a couple tables empty. Our server, a petite Asian lady with her hair tied back in a ponytail, was simply wonderful. She was attentive and friendly, and super hardworking. The drinks were just meh, (we got a white wine and a mai tai) with good happy hour prices but not too strong. The glassware was pretty though. The food took quite a while to come out (around 25 minutes after we ordered) and tasted solid. We got the fried shrimp, loco moco, and fries. The sauce for fries was tasty, and the fried shrimp was large and flavorful. The loco moco was nothing special, but it was small and cute. Overall though, none of the food really blew my mind and just tasted just as good as another hip bar. While the service was great and the food and drinks a-okay, I probably wouldn't go back there again, because there really wasn't anything unique or different about it. read more

Habitant. (4 stars). "Habitant: an inhabitant." - Google "Inhabitant: a person or animal that lives in or occupies a place." - Google I'm a creature of habit... I tend to enjoy the same venues when it comes to food and drinks. I rarely stray from "my norm" unless I'm going for the company. However, Habitant was a place I had always been interested in trying. After seeing my friends frequent Habitant, I figured I would put it on my mental list. By golly, the stars aligned one recent evening as I was going to meet up with my BF, my OFB (Old Fashioned Buddy), and my WB (Wine Buddy). Between the semi-chaotic "lockdown" throughout Ala Moana (Mall security thought there was an active shooter but luckily it was a false alarm. Apparently someone in a Comic-Con type outfit was walking around the mall in costume with a fake gun) and the fact that Habitant is quite a drive for me, I was so happy I got to experience this lovely bar with great friends. Thank goodness my subsequent visits weren't so traumatic! After being here a few times, I'll review the highlights of my visits: Old Fashioned. (4.5 stars). Classic. With a kick. I had never had Rittenhouse Rye (nor am I a liquor connoisseur), but I have to say this version was smooth and tasty! The 100 proof rye sneaks up on you... A slow but wicked strong punch. Habitant's version is slightly sweeter than what I prefer, but still a good contender!! This is the drink I will come back for when I'm in the area. Ahi Poke. (3.5 stars). I was surprised to find out that Habitant uses Fresh Ahi in their poke dish. For the price, the amount served as well as the quality are impressive. The cabbage and chips are just "fillers" to me. Pretty presentation but I personally didn't care for the added accouterments. The poke is tasty but very oniony and a tad bit on the saltier side, but I guess when alcohol is involved I can understand why. The salt makes one wicked thirsty!! Lol, at least that is my reason for drinking more... After one piece of ahi, I left the rest for everyone else, but I can say the quality of the ahi was good! I did however continue to munch on the radish sprouts! Yummy. Hummus. (5 stars). I really really really enjoyed this dish! I love hummus to begin with but when you add PITTED KALAMATA OLIVES to the mix, I just can't resist!! This hummus is very flavorful. The garbanzo beans are served both whole as well as ground thus giving both a visual as well as texturally appealing dip. I love the small bits of beans mixed in to every bite. Cayenne and garlic are definitely noted and the olives give a nice salty bite. The pita is served toasted and warm. A perfect combination!! Miso Tofu Salad. (4 stars). I'm not a huge fan of furikake as I feel it is wicked sweet. However, in this salad, the furikake enhanced the miso dressing by combatting some of the acidity which made for a light and flavorful forkful. The greens were fresh and vibrant in color while the tofu was served cold and firm. The miso dressing had a hint of sesame which brought a slight nuttiness which I enjoyed. I would recommend ordering this to share with a group because if you don't eat it quickly, it will wilt and the dressing will be rendered inedible as it gets watery... The lotus root chips were the best part of this salad to me. I loved snacking on these light crisp chips. I should ask for a whole bowl the next time I am here!! Honey Chipotle Wings. (3 stars). The chicken was fried up nicely. I can't say the chicken used wasn't frozen as there were bites that had drier pieces of meat than others. While I love jerk chicken and different spices... I was looking forward to a honey chipotle sauce. What I bit into was a sauce that reminded me of an Indian and Jamaican inspired curry and Jerk seasoned sauce. I could appreciate the sauce, but not the tough and dry chicken. --- I have to say the service and our mixologist were friendly throughout all my visits. The ambiance and the decor of Habitant is relaxing and classy. I love the wood grain design as well as the options for seating: the bar, tables with bar stools, or tables with leather chairs. If I still lived in town, Habitant would definitely be in "my norm" list of places to enjoy. I hope to be back again soon and be... a HABITANT!! read more

The 3-star rating, in this case, is not a bad reflection on the establishment. Located in Nordstrom in the new wing at Ala Moana Shopping Center, the concept is actually a great idea. A bar, that can seat roughly about 20 people. It's a great idea for those waiting for their spouses. It's a great idea if you just need a drink while you are going crazy shopping. It's a great idea if you got kids with you and they are driving you to drink (they have sodas for the little bastards). But it's a bar, without the usual bar food. Just go there to drink and leave. So why a 3-star rating if it's not a bad reflection: it does it's duty and nothing spectacular. read more

Suggestion: include guac for the tacos. Negative: they ran out of the Kalua Pork sliders Mai tai was ok. At $10 though, I'd rather go to Islands for their Happy Hour mai tai (double the size, double the alcohol but half the price) Service: 3.5 stars The service could have been better, or more attentive. We were never offered a refill on our water or asked if we'd like to order anything else. My husband loves going here when I shop and we also have lunch here often. I like the appetizers, which I actually order as my meal. The ricotta meatballs are delicious! It's served with toasted bruschetta bread and the marinara sauce is really tasty. I also love the mushroom bruschetta. It's quite light but I can also have it as a meal if I'm not starving. Sometimes shopping is stressful and after wandering in circles looking for clothes and almost bursting into tears, my boyfriend decided we both needed a drink and steered me into this lovely bar in the middle of Nordstrom on the 2nd floor. There is bar seating along with a few tables with a bench like chair opposite the bar. It's not huge but the bar is decently stocked. They have a small food menu, a selection of cocktails and wines and a few beers. I did think the beer list was lacking but cocktail wise, I'm pretty sure they could make most things you order off menu. We ordered a beer, a glass of wine and one of the food specials: maple bacon deviled eggs. The maple sriracha glazed bacon on each devil egg completely changed the taste and made the simple deviled egg a bit fancier. Our drinks helped calm my nerves about shopping. Is that a first world problem? Probably but shopping can be harder than you think! I would definitely stop back in here. Drunk shopping is always better than sober shopping! But they were packed and predicted an hour plus wait. The hostess mentioned Habitant as an alternative. Bar: Yup Habitant is simply a bar in the middle of a department store, but it's an extra nice bar, and it has a food menu of mostly appetizer sort of items. We all got a nice drink. Food: Before we knew it our order started arriving bit by bit. It has to be carried down the escalator on a covered tray from the Rucello kitchen. Mushroom Bruschetta, Kalua Pork Sliders, Ahi Poke, Crispy Chicken Wings, and Tofu Salad. We loved it! I am comfortable with this but I described it this way as some may not like it. The actual bar also has wood seat stools. There are cushioned chairs with lower tables. Vibe comfortable and friendly. I might make it a habit to frequent Habitant. I've been to Nordstrom countless times, and this was my first time to Habitant. Fridays are meant for pau hana and happy hour, and this bar ended up being the perfect place for it. We sipped on drinks while eating happy hour pupus of the loco moco and sweet potato fries. The loco moco was so cute! I love that it is mini-sized so you don't feel as bad eating multiple items. For someone who isn't a large eater like me, it's the perfect sized portion to keep you content. The sweet potato fries came with an herb aioli that was really nice. Fellow yelper John M. coerced me one Tuesday after work to check out took advantage! If you've ever dined at Nordstrom's main restaurant Ruscello on the top floor, the food from Habitant is prepared in the same kitchen and then walked down by their servers. Their Happy Hour menu of items frequently changes so if you spot a pic on Instagram​/Yelp recently you think is try-worthy, you should​ hit this place up soon before its gone. The day John and I came in, we took advantage of the Kalua Pork Sliders, ​Habitant Cheeseburger, Ahi Tuna Poke​, ​and chicken wings. I thought the assortment we ordered tasted good, was well portioned to feed two people​ and didn't​ take too long to come out. And for drinks, I​ couldn't​ pass up the chance to taste a refreshing glass of their Flamingo Rosé wine they had on special -light and fruity, but not too sweet with enough acidity that paired well with our assortment of food. Overall I think this spot is perfect if you need a quick break or bite while shopping, or just need a nice convenient place to meet up​ with someone​​. So why give this place only 3-stars? Nordstrom is known for its​ outstanding service however,​ I felt like that was​nt the case for one of the servers​ that waited on us here. There's a bar in the middle of Nordstrom? Nice. It's a great place for shoppers to relax, and also for the non-shoppers, who must do the grueling task of going along. Shopping or no shopping, this place is pretty chill. It's located near the escalators in the middle of Nordstrom, yet it's nice how most of the foot traffic gets redirected to other parts of the store and not so much near the lounge. My reward for being such a patient shopping companion, was to stop in for a couple drinks and a quick bite to eat. While the food menu isn't that large, it's substantial enough. We had the Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos and the Roasted Mushroom Bruschetta, and I must say, we did good in our choices. The tacos were refreshing, and the shells were fresh and crunchy. I wasn't too keen on the idea of ordering the Roasted Mushroom Bruschetta since I'm not a big fan balsamic vinegar, but, the mildly sweet balsamic glaze complimented the rest of the goods on the bread nicely. So while shopping at malls isn't my thing, perhaps doing so while ever so slightly intoxicated, might make it more pleasurable in the future. I'll definitely be back. read more

Fortunately because of the stellar reviews by fellow yelpers, this was another place I learned about and was eager to visit. Not a huge menu but a lot of really interesting drinks. I tried something called "Overtime!" Smooth at first and with a definite kick from the jalapeño that is infused into the sugar water! Also tried the cilantro lime tacos and the roasted mushroom bruschetta--both were an A+. Will definitely have both again next time and maybe I won't be sharing! I have passed by Habitant many a time on my way to Ruscello and have always wondered how the pupus were! I now know that they are delicious and I can't wait to go back! My friend and I weren't hungry enough for a full sit-down meal the other day so we made a stop here. We both ordered the Basil Cucumber Cooler and got two things to share: Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos (at the recommendation of our waiter, who said this was the most popular food item there) and Roasted Mushroom Bruschetta. Both pupus were delicious but I absolutely loved the tacos. The chicken was super tasty, the shells were crispy, and the ingredients were so fresh. Each order comes with four tacos. Had somewhat a happy hour but not quite a happy hour with some awesome co-workers. Second time I visited this bar and I will definitely come back for this drink. Vine street: Chopin vodka (best find), Prosecco, rose, grape and mint. Delicious and refreshing...goes great with the pistachio nuts. Super disappointed with the service me and my sister received on Saturday. I love Nordstrom and love Ruscello but won't be dining at Habitant unless a certain employee is not working. I wish I had gotten his name but was so upset we just decided to leave. **This review doesn't reflect on the food (I actually usually order the chicken tacos upstairs at Ruscello). This review is solely for the rude behavior of one person. I don't know if he was having a bad day or what but his poor attitude was unacceptable especially at Nordstrom where they are known for their customer service. We arrived at about 10:45 and this one person was behind the bar prepping. My sister asked him if they open at 11am and he tells her "we aren't open yet". So we figure okay we can wait around 15 mins and look at the clothes and come back. Ruscello was already booked and we had 7 of us total (yes I know it is a max of 5 people so we were going to split up 4 and 3). We came back to the bar around 10:55 to just wait till we could get seated because we saw a 4 topper and a 3 top (the 3 top was a higher table) that were in the same area and we wanted to sit relatively close together. So we stand by the entrance and wait a few minutes for them to "open". We were still waiting for our other sister so it was just 4 of us at the moment when they opened. The same person (who told us they weren't open) asked us if we had 4 (since we did - and he pointed to the 4 topper) and so we told him we actually have 7 - if we could do 4 and 3 and take the 3 top too because he was showing us the 4 top. He told me I couldn't leave my stroller on the outside but I could put it by the table (which I wasn't going to leave my stroller out there anyway, we were just waiting. As I was moving my stuff to the 4 top, he removed the reserved sign and put (kinda tossed with attitude) it on the 3 top. He didn't give a definitive answer if we could use the 3 top (and since he put the reserve sign on it we weren't sure if he knew we wanted to sit there too) so my sister asked if we could sit there too (the rest of our party was walking over) and he tells her with attitude that no we can't move the tables together. Obviously we know that and didn't even ask about moving the tables. We just wanted to see if we were supposed to use that table since he flung the reserved sign on to it. I was in shock with his attitude but told my sister that I did not want to even eat there anymore. I lost my appetite and so we grabbed our stuff and left. 0 stars for that employee 2 stars because I still love the food and have had good service in the past. read more

So there's a bar...with tvs in the new Nordstrom on the second floor. You can't miss it with its huge clear glass shelf lines with various alcohol bottles. Men now have somewhere to wait while the ladies shop! It's not a large area but there are tables to sit at and bar seating. You can take a shopping break and have a drink. They have the same signature cocktails as Ruscello as well as beer and wine by the glass/bottle. They even have a few appetizers if you want a light bite, I would say about 7 or so appetizers ranging from ricotta meatballs to kalua pork sliders ($7.50-$13.50). What girl doesn't love Nordstrom and alcohol? I know this girl writing this review loves Nordy (as my cousins and I lovingly call Nordstrom) and alcohol! I have been dying, literally dying, to visit the new Nordstrom. In order to entice my bf to tag along with me, I informed him about the bar. After browsing the store, my bf and I ended up grabbing a drink at Habitant. This bar is located on the second floor near the escalators and Topshop!! (Seriously, did Nordy love me that much to place the the bar and Topshop next to each other?!?!?!) The bar is open seating and features cocktails, wines, and beers. The beverages are the same as those found in Ruscello but the food is different. There's about 6 food options from what I remember. I didn't get to try any of it since I was more interested in grabbing a drink. I ordered the rent check and my bf ordered the nor'easter. Both cocktails were refreshing. We also ordered several beers, the hitachino and unibroue. Service was fast and the staff was friendly. There was two TV screens that were showing a game, so fellas no excuses to ditch your lady when she's heading to Nordy. Seriously, Habitant is the best concept ever. This place....used to be my GO TO! It used to be the best, shopping then drinks and tacos in the same place! HOWEVER, the same tacos went from $11.25 to NOW $18! That's major inflation! Brilliant. This place had to have been a guy's idea and dream come true to fruition. 'Let's open a bar but put it in Nordstrom with big screen tvs and food.' Or on second thought, maybe it was a brilliant woman's idea. Winning for both parties involved. It is a first-come, first-serve, seat yourself establishment. They serve complimentary pistachios and have a limited food menu reminiscent of the menu they have upstairs at Ruscello. But they have a full bar. We had their GM75. A perfect Sunday am mimosa alternative. Prosecco topped with grand marnier and lemon juice. They even take the rind of the orange and use the oil to coat the rim. It was pretty darn tasty. This place is perfect for killing time or resting your tired feet because shopping is such hard work and a break is much deserved, so take a break at Habitant, you deserve it. read more

My friend and I came here whilst waiting for a table at the restaurant upstairs (Ruscello - the new Nordstrom cafe). It was a good decision because the drinks, food, and service was great. I got the lana'i cooler. It was refreshing and very passion fruity. The alcohol didn't taste too strong, just the way I like my drinks. My friend got the Mai tai, it was good, but kind of strong for our taste. But maybe that's just how Mai tais are. It was both of our first times, trying a Mai tai. Anyway we got the cilantro lime chicken tacos, and they were amazing. It came with four mini tacos with ground chicken. So so good, you must get that. Then our server came by and asked if we were still hungry because the kitchen made an extra plate of the poke and asked if we wanted it. It was FREE! I of course took up the offer, and it was really really good. It came with tortilla chips sprinkled with furikake, poke, and this cole slaw type of salad in the middle. All of this chimed very well together, and our stomachs were thanking us. Anyway so in general our experience was very pleasant and I would definitely come back. The service was attentive and all the servers are very nice. The food was excellent, and the drinks were good too. This bar is uniquely tucked away on the 2nd floor of Nordstrom across from the Top Shop section. It is a perfect pit stop for shoppers, significant others and even children in tow! They have a full bar, bar stools, high top tables and even lounge chairs with small tables perfect for pulling a stroller up to. They offer happy hour with a $5 small bites menu and drink specials. We ordered one of everything on the small bites menu and they did not disappoint. The food comes from the restaurant Ruscello's kitchen upstairs, which I also recommend. They also have another menu if you're hungrier. The bar's food, aesthetic and service are excellent! read more

Before the pandemic, I'd hit up Habitant once (sometimes twice a week). The bartenders were all nice and laid-back. The environment was cozy and unpretentious. Since shelter in place, all I've been thinking about is hitting up Habitant for a bourbon and their exceptional burger. Bruh, I can't wait for y'all to open up! (Safely of course.) Came here to kill some time. The drinks here are pretty good and the tacos were delicious. It comes with 4 small hard tacos that I shared with my fiancé. I would recommend the tacos if you want something light and fresh to just satisfy your hunger. I ate two of the tacos and it was perfect to help satisfy my hunger until dinner time!
