Jerome comes out that Saturday (30th), I give him as much info as I have, we'd only been in the house for a year, and not really had to use the AC, so weren't sure about the history, but it didn't seem to have issues, until it stopped working. I left him to diagnose, and half hour ish, he comes in and tells me it was just completely out of coolant. Easy fix, he'd already filled it, I paid him, problem done. I asked if there were any other issues, he said no it's just an older unit, and I asked him if it'd still be good for the next 2-3 years, so we could save for a replacement, he said it should. About 3 weeks go by, and it stops working again, no idea why. So I ask my husband (who is home during the days) to get ahold of Jerome, and see if he has time to come out to look at it again. He calls, the first number on the business card is not Jerome, but someone who used to work for him. So he calls the other number, and leaves a message. Jerome calls back, and says he's out of town... that was pretty much the end of conversation. We ended up calling Milwaukie Heating, who comes out and looks at the unit, gives us a very thorough quote. Come to find out that there is a whole (puncture) in the liner of the unit. (I don't know if this is the technical jargon, this is just what I got from my husband). The hole was big enough that it should have been noticed prior to having the coolant filled (which is all A1 did), and the tech from Milwaukie said that it should have been communicated to me before the unit was filled. So we have the repair quote, and the quote for a replacement unit, and I called back A1, thinking it's been long enough, maybe Jerome is back in town and can come give us a price quote on a repair, since he initially filled the unit, and I feel like it was something he should have caught, so I wanted to give him a chance to work with us on resolving the issue. Spoke with Jerome tonight, he is still out of state. When I told him I felt like we were taken advantage of, by him not informing us of an issue and just filling the coolant (I'll be honest, I said it felt like we got screwed), his response was "I'm sorry". And then there was a statement to the effect of, "It's possible if there was a leak, something was blocking it, and it was holding pressure, so it the blockage may have been dissolved, and the leak came back". We will not be using this company again, and I'm super disappointed with the service. I feel like he did take advantage of us not knowing much about our AC unit, and was happy enough to make $$$ off of something that was never going to fix the problem. Had we not gone somewhere else, we might have just kept having the unit filled, before realizing there was a larger problem.

They told us we had a cracked heat exchanger and it was leaking carbon monoxide into our home. We got a new furnace and believed them. Now my plumber is here and he's also worked in HVAC. He is saying our condensation pump doesn't have a good foundation set up and that it is not hooked up properly. I don't know how to hold them accountable for this after 1 year or so since installation. But it'd be nice if I could connect to them.

Company #2 misdiagnosed the problem & never followed up with a promised part (that I ultimately didn't need anyway). I think I used Angie's List to get recommendations after almost a month of no central heat and rising frustration, & that's how I found Fire & Ice. Thankfully I don't often have furnace issues but was appreciative of the quick and fair service offered by Fire & Ice. Would absolutely use their services if/when the time comes.

North Pacific came out and bid the replacement of the unit. They charged me $6k for the work which was higher than others but they seemed legitimate. The mini split they installed is woefully insufficient to cool the space. They have not responded to my repeated requests for a solution. Would not recommend.

I know I might be skeptical, but ... " aaaaand he interrupted and went on a rant telling me that yes I was overly-skeptical (he might be right) and how long he's been doing this and how he knows what's going on with my unit because of his experienced, he raved about how great their reviews are on their website, how they help people when nobody else does, how they help little old ladies and poor people who can't afford service, how they stay open when other companies are closed and don't wanna help." -- In so many words, "they're the good guys!" I offered to share with him why his lead-in had sent up red flags and he continued to tell me why they were the good guys and I was irrational. When he finally finished letting me know that my perception was invalid... I shared with him that consumers are on-guard with repair people because we don't have ongoing relationships and we've all heard of or experienced horror stories ... he dismissed my concerns and told me I was an exception (less than1% of calls ) everyone else just trusts them. This didn't increase my level of trust and I said we'll just go our separate ways. I was definitely the calm one on the phone, though he never got rude (other than talking over me and repeating loudly how great their company was and how unbelievable it was for me to have any doubt at all because read my reviews)... he let me know several times that their company stays busy with all of their other customers! I then read a few more reviews and found others had similar negative experiences on the phone and several had the type of service visit I felt I was being set-up to experience. Happy for you if you had a better experience with them... I couldn't get past the arrogance and dismissiveness of the sales guy priming me for the big ticket.

They allowed non-compressible material (ie oxygen) into our system when they moved our furnace, then REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEY CREATED!!! They were aggressively RUDE and dismissive---enter Darrin with Integrated Air Solution! With a brief phone call and trouble shooting call ($185) Darrin had a good handle on the problem. He gave us a quote to come back and fix/further trouble shoot the issue. Our GC agreed to pay and in less than 2 hours Darrin had our AC up and blowing cold air again! He explained everything he found and what was NOT done properly by Air Quality and how he fixed their (terrible) work. Darrin is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, professional and someone I will not hesitate to recommend. When it's time to upgrade our whole system our first call will be to Darrin at Integrated Air Systems! If you need anything repaired or replaced, give Darrin a shot at quoting or fixing it!
