Drinks were okay--felt a bit watered down and not the strongest. The black tie (thai tea with espresso) was recommended to me as one of their signature drinks but it really just tasted like thai tea.

iced mango matcha & iced cookie butter latte

My friend and I were walking past this place and were immediately interested by the sign that said they offered iced pumpkin matcha, banana matcha, and mango matcha. We were about to catch the bus to the Chinatown Autumn Moon Festival when suddenly, our bus was cancelled and we had to wait another half hour for the next bus, so we decided to come in and try this place. We saw that the back of the sign said "This is a sign to come & get coffee" which was such a coincidence for these turn of events. We totally manifested this into existence, and yes, this was a sign to come try the place! The interior was nice with the greenery lined at the windows. There was only one other customer here. I believe this cafe just opened up recently, so we were excited to try it out. They had a variety of drink options that I have never seen before (cookie butter latte, horchata latte, etc.). Unfortunately, they ran out of banana matcha which I guess made sense since this place had been open for a few hours now, and we came in around 2pm. I asked the cashier about the sweetness level of the cookie butter latte and the horchata latte, but she said it was just regular sweetness. It wasn't really clear how sweet it could be, but I decided to try it anyways as is. I went with the cookie butter latte ($6.50) and my friend went with the mango matcha. We got our drinks in around 5 minutes. My cookie butter latte was definitely a bit too sweet for my liking, but the saltiness of the cookie butter did help. You can definitely taste the cookie butter spread, so it didn't have an artificial syrup taste. My friend liked her mango matcha, but she said the mango mostly overpowered the matcha. Once the ice in my drink started melting, the drink tasted a bit more separated from the cookie butter which I didn't enjoy as much. I would not order the cookie butter latte again, but I would give this place another chance and try a different drink next time.

I almost passed out when I first saw that the former Rise and Grind was under new ownership. Thankfully I was able to get myself together quickly after seeing the core menu would not be changing. I used to and still get the iced black sugar latte. It's my absolute favorite! Since becoming Hala Hala Café, I've continued to enjoy coming here. They now have longer hours, an expanded menu, and delicious looking sweet and savory pastries. I haven't tried the pastries yet but they always look so good. The staff continues to be wonderful. They now have straws available and a different set up for if you want to add additional sugar, milk, etc to your drinks. Looks like you can also reserve tables for study sessions!

    Asiago bagel turkey sandwich

Walking up to the corner of 22nd and Folsom, you can't miss Hala Hala Cafe. It is calm, inviting, and filled with the aroma of fresh coffee. Under its new ownership, this cafe is more than a stop for caffeine. It is a small portal into the flavors of Arabia right in the heart of San Francisco. The staff greeted me like I was a regular, quick with recommendations and genuinely kind. That set the tone before I even sat down. The space itself is spotless, airy, and thoughtfully laid out. There is plenty of room to tuck into some work or catch up with a friend without feeling crowded. I ordered the cookie butter latte and an Asiago bagel sandwich with turkey. The latte arrived first, steaming and rich, with a creaminess that carried just the right amount of sweetness. It had that "can't put it down" quality, each sip pulling me back for the next. The sandwich was just as memorable. The Asiago bagel was warm and slightly crisp, the turkey was fresh, and every bite delivered a balance of flavor that felt crafted with care. By the time I finished, it was clear this cafe checks every box: quality, comfort, and heart. Whether you are a local searching for a new go-to spot or a visitor wanting something authentic and welcoming, Hala Hala Cafe is worth the stop.

First time coming to this cute coffee shop and I love the ambiance. Great selection of coffee and next I'll be trying the food. I got the spicy mocha and "I LOVE IT" , just the right amount of spice and not overwhelming sweet like other mochas I've tried.

Adam's a life saver best food and coffee on the block!!

All around pleasant experience in terms of both the service and coffee. I had the flight and…read morethought it was overall good. They explained that the flight includes an espresso shot, espresso shot with milk, hot coffee, and iced coffee. I hadn't had a straight espresso shot before, so this wasn't for me personally just because it was so overpowering. I enjoyed the other three though. Like the majority of SF, parking is difficult to locate. I was dropped off nearby the location. There is indoor and outdoor seating; I was able to grab an empty spot late in the morning on a weekend, but I don't think seating is always readily available. It's not a huge space.

At 11 am on a Sunday they were out of their best- black sesame Kouign Amann and the Raspberry Almond Croissant, which I took care of by paying a visit to Juniper bakery (sister business) later in the day. The Mocha with the house made nut milk fell flat. It needed something. I am not a fan of syrupy coffees and appreciate the more purist approach but this one just didn't do anything for me. The chai latte which I would never order was actually the best chai latte I have ever had, it was smooth like silk. Maybe I just had the wrong coffee order. Besides that, got the hot chocolate and the coffee tasting. I was surprised there was no explanation provided with the coffee- I figured it's all Honduran but an overview of some sort would have helped. I enjoyed all the coffees in there except the latte. Will visit again, earlier in the day so they are not out of their best sellers and try a different order.

I got invited here to shoot some content for them, and I'm very glad for that opportunity…read more Content aside, I did genuinely enjoy their drinks. The strawberry matcha was my favorite. They used a strawberry cream top instead of a puree, which I actually enjoyed. It added a nice creaminess to the drink, and the matcha was very smooth and strong. It worked well together. I also tried their double hojicha, and while I enjoyed how nutty and strong the hojicha was, I did find it a little bit grainy. I wish it was a little smoother like the matcha was. I usually don't drink/like coffee, but the guava cold brew sounded so interesting I couldn't resist. The fruity jasmine tea somehow paired so well with the coffee and made it a nice refreshing drink. I was also lucky enough to try the matcha crepe cake, which I believe they get from Lady M. It had really nice layers and was light, but unfortunately it was a little too sweet for me. Overall a very solid matcha/coffee option in SF. They have a beautiful interior too, perfect for catching up with friends. Servers were sweet as well!

Our group came around 1pm and was able to grab the last 3 sets. Our party of 6 was able to share the 3 sets and feel relatively full. You order before you get seated when you first walk in. Def gets busy after 12! We got the hojicha latte and strawberry latte. The hojicha was very nice and nutty. It came a little too unsweetened for my liking but they have sweetened out to adjust for your liking! I would def come back to get this! 8/10! The strawberry latte on the other hand was very overpoweringly flavored of the strawberry jam :(. I felt it tasted a bit artificial and didn't really let the matcha taste come through, I would stick to-the hojicha. 4.5/10 For food we got the fish sandwich and the pork katsu sandwich. The fish sandwich was decent, the cheese was cold but the fish was nice and flaky. I wish the fish skin was a bit more crunchy but I did like the slaw and sauce on it. 6.5/10 The pork one was soooo good and juicy. The crust was super crunchy and surrounded by the soft bread was such a nice texture. There was a sweet sauce which balanced the sandwhich nicely. Would get again! 8/10 We also saw the Japanese breakfast bento which looked realllly good and the salmon with matcha broth that others ordered and would def come back to try those! TLDR; would get the pork katsu sandwhich and hojicha. Would come back to try the bento and the salmon in matcha broth!!
