Walked in and was immediately drawn to the decor! Hints of New Orleans, with a bit of a parlor feel. Very unique. The server greeted us promptly and was very attentive. Very hearty meal with side items that I have never seen anywhere else. Sweet Potato Creme Brule was one of the best things I have ever tried. Hubby loved the oysters, very nice variety. We have noticed it several times during shopping trips to Lafayette but never tried it because the outside did not look very appealing from the parking lot--just a strip center restaurant in the Marshalls and Cosco shopping center. But we decided to give it a try and, OMG!The best seafood ever! The restaurant was very nice and quaint on the inside with a great ambience. We ordered Char-grilled oysters, raw oysters, and crab cakes for appetizers. The best for all three! Then for entrees we ordered the fish special for the day. EXCELLENT! Having the cinnamon roll bread pudding firsr, crab cakes, and blackened grouper. Coffee to drink. And some gumbo. Coffee here quick via lovely Monique. Bread pudding is excellent and nice presentation in martini glass. Crab cakes very good. Thinner patties. I actually prefer the thick ones however. Gumbo pretty good. Not amazing. Visiting from out of town for business and enjoyed a great dinner here. We tried the big oyster sampler platter which was good. The Redfish Orleans was amazing with the jalapeño hushpuppies. One hushpuppy was missing from the plate at first, but the staff quickly recognized and brought it out before I even realized I was missing one. I was impressed they went the extra mile! This little restaurant is simply perfect. We had charbroiled oysters and two delicious entrees. The lobster tail was big and melted in your mouth. My filet was cooked to the most scrumptious medium. We ate everything we ordered. No room for dessert unfortunately . Service was really good. We were greeted at the door, checked in by all not just our server and thanked by many. I ordered a coors beer and waitress brought a Coors lite said there was no such thing as a Coors beer.... If you like oysters, go here, and go on Tuesday bc they are cheaper. We had a group of seven and went through 19 dozen oysters. We had charbroiled, Rockefeller, Orleans and raw. My favorites were the Rockefeller and Orleans, but they were all so good. We also had great service. The waiter was a good waiter, but he also had a great personality. OMG!! What an amazing dining experience. First time here and my companion and I thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered based on recommendations from our super server Monique. Please request her, she's very attentive, pleasant and professional. We ordered the oyster sampler which was great with the varying flavors but the Orleans flavor was the best in our opinions. After demolishing them, we ordered an additional dozen of the Orleans oysters. So, I got greedy and ordered the shrimp and grits, sweet potato brûlée and turnip greens (Both were AHHHMAZING!!)....had to take that home because we saw and ordered the fried seafood platter (I know, gluttonous). Anywho, you get two sides with every entree except the shrimp and grits (only one) but that's fine because the portion size was huge. I have to say, this place exceeded my expectations and to have a super great server was quite remarkable. Some hospitality folks are everything BUT hospitable but Monique gave me life with her overall service. Too bad they're not in New Orleans because I'd be a loyal customer. read more

My husband and I discovered this restaurant on our recent visit to Lafayette and we're so glad we did. It's a cute little restaurant in a strip mall. Great place for lunch and probably just as good for dinner. The food was so yummy. Hot and fresh. They aren't reinventing the wheel here, but they don't have to. Cajun seafood is good enough already. This restaurant has all the traditional favorites, prepared the traditional ways. THANK YOU! There is a nice bar and the cocktails were great. If we lived here, this would definitely be our happy hour spot. Now let's talk about the service. One thing we've noticed over the years is how the service we get in Lafayette is never as good as the service we get where we live (Southern California). Well, Lafayette's answer to that is BROOKE! Stopped by on our way out of Lafayette because the reviews were so good on here. Unfortunately, we were so disappointed! The raw oysters had a strange taste to them and were SMALL. My husband ordered his tuna steak rare, which he eats all the time, and it came out cold and raw - like sushi. A rare tuna steak should have some crust to it. The waitress must've known because when we finally saw her after the meal she specifically asked if the temperature of the tuna was okay or not and said we could have a free dessert if it wasn't okay. Speaking of our waitress, she brought us our bill before we ever got our food and then we really never saw her after that. Never had our drinks refilled or anything. Also it was strange when we were joking and laughing as she brought us our ticket again, she stopped us talking and asked if we were laughing at her. Came here with my friend at 9:00 PM last night and I was astonish by the decor of the restaurant. Our waitress Katrina was awesome and attentive ( I recommend having her as your future waitress). I ordered the Seafood pasta which had the Gulf shrimp and crawfish sauteed with portabella mushrooms, shallots, garlic and seasonings tossed with linguini and creole Alfredo. Topped with jumbo lump crabmeat. As for my one side of choice, I ordered the fried okra. Both food items tasted good. I will be back to try other stuff on the menu next time! read more

I traveled there from out of town and expected some tasty creole and cajun seasoned food and I got the shrimp and grits and ultimately didnt enjoy it or did I enjoy my gumbo. I am glad we did not read the last two reviews before trying this place out. We were here, yesterday, Saturday, 10/22/2016. We arrived during the afternoon. We ordered: -A dozen half shell oysters. They were small but the flavor was perfect. I wanted more. -Crab cake appetizer. The best crab cakes I have had in a long time. I will try it with the fried green tomatoes next time. -Boudin ball appetizer special. This was the only thing that I was not a fan of. They were over cooked and completely saturated with oil. The oil covered up the flavor of the boudin. I was completely disappointed with it. I should have had it taken off of the bill. -Gumbo. Delicious. I don't usually like gumbo at restaurants. This gumbo was one that I would absolutely order again. Full of flavor and seafood. We did not have to search for the seafood in our bowl. -Shrimp Orleans entree. This was recommended by our waiter. It was terrific! Great flavor! We were not crazy about the cold bread that it came with. Bread should always arrive to a table, warm. -Seafood stuffed portobellos entree. This was so tasty. I loved it! -Sweet potato creme brûlée side. This was fantastic! If you like sweet potatoes, you must order this side dish. -Garlic and herb new potatoes side. What a great flavor! This was another amazing side dish. -Seasoned French fries. Order these with you sandwich, burger or poboy. They were good too. The service was good throughout our experience. He asked what we wanted to drink when we sat down. We asked for water, to start with, when we arrived, but I would have also ordered a glass of wine with my meal. He never asked again. I would have rated it as excellent if our waiter mentioned desserts. He did not even ask if we needed anything else. We were too stuffed to eat, but we were not offered desserts or coffee. I wanted to hear about the cinnamon bread pudding on the menu. There is one complaint. If you are seated facing the back of the restaurant, you get a terrible glare in your eyes from the windows. Shades are definitely needed on windows in that area. Many of the people in booths were sitting on the same side of the table instead of sitting "face to face". Would I go back? YES! We went last Sat for a birthday. Glad we did. Service and server were great. The food overall was really good. The first doz on the half shell was good but small. The tiny amount of sauce they give is not enough for the doz even when they are that small. I hope later in the season when oysters fill out they give you more. I did not care for the sauce too much. Crackers were fresh. As they started to get busy, my second doz oysters had shells in them. Like last year, our oyster season is slow for this time of year. I like my oysters almost white in color and these had a lot of black in them. The grilled oysters were ok. The best was the Rockefeller because it had the most filling on them. The rest were just different flavors and sauces. Not Impressed. The best grilled oysters anywhere is Shucks in Abbeville. A Mississippi co cannot compete against true Cajuns although they did a hell of a good job trying. The drinks were really good. They do a good job mixing cocktails. Very good. Everyone at the table were impressed. My son in law makes his own Old Fashioned but this place was just as good as his. He said no place is good, but he was surprised at this one. The draft beer was good. It stayed cold to the end of the mug. I loved the Royal Red Shrimp. Much better than the ones I had in Florida. That was a surprise. They really did taste close to lobster. What was supposed to be butter for dipping had no flavor at all. Like corn oil or something. I put lemon in mine and it helped a bit. Everything my part had, they loved. The Surf and Turf had a great filet and perfectly cooked. The crab cake was not impressive. The size of a half dollar and unnecessary really. The sauce on the filet was great. The lobster dip was very good. If i were to drive that far to go back, I would love to sit at the bar and eat oysters as it was meant to be.....at a marble bar with a cold draft beer. I will wait until the oysters get better and bigger. Hopefully after Christmas. As far as the location. It is nice, but I was not impressed with the outside of the place. A plain nondescript front part of a stripe mall. Nothing distinguishable. Just a logo on the front. However the inside is where they put the money. Nice and well thought out for an oyster bar. I'm not exactly sure how to sum up my experience here. I've only gone once and I am a native to New Orleans. The only thing I can say is that it is not like New Orleans food, or even Cajun food for that matter, and it is way over priced. I ordered the crab cakes appetizer. They were greasy and fell apart and didn't hold well. For my main entree I ordered half a dozen oysters which were good and the lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was very runny, more like a soup than a bisque. Overall, it was decent, but I probably won't go again unless it's strictly for oysters. read more

My third time here and I had the chicken salad. Lettuce was not fresh, it was actually limp and almost wilted. I had the fish lunch special which was good and chicken lunch the second time which was ok. The food is not terrible but it's not the best. I will go back out of convince not because I love the food. 11 miles off 1-10 makes Half Shell a bit out of the way. Located in a massive shopping center complex, the restaurant is visually appealing for being situated in a strip mall. Fresh raw oysters and luncheon specials were solid. Service was pleasant and efficient. Just be forewarned about snaking through Lafayette traffic. read more

Possibly the best oysters I've ever had! The fresh oysters on the half shell were huge, and extremely fresh. The oyster sampler was amazing as well, with the oysters Orleans being the stand out. Hard to pick favorites between the rest. We also had the grilled seafood sampler, and while smaller than the usual fried seafood platters offered elsewhere everything tasted great, and along with the oysters was a perfect meal to share for 2 of us. The oysters are really good - they're fresh, clean, huge and reasonably priced. The best raw oysters I've had in a while for sure. And the chargrilled are really good too. Only problem is that it took 30-45 minutes for them to get to the table. The entrees were just ok, and there was another 30 minute wait after we finished the oysters before those came out. The Redfish New Orleans was a little overcooked and floating in a pool of salty butter/oil. The Seafood Sampler was underwhelming; the crab cake was small and thin, the 1/2 grouper filet looked like it had been halved by hand rather than with a knife, and the oysters came out separately and about 10 minutes late. The presentation was pretty amateurish for both entrees - they were plated the way you plate leftovers when you're reheating them in the microwave at home and you don't care how they look. This isn't a 5-star restaurant or anything, but it's not a diner either. A little thoughtfulness (and running a towel around the edge of the plates) goes a long way. Our server was great, but the kitchen needs a little fine-tuning still. It was a Friday night, and busy, but this is a relatively new restaurant in Lafayette with a good reputation, so that's to be expected.
