This little place was hard to find. Tucked away in the far corner of the plaza. There was are no stools or tables to actually sit down and eat besides that one communal table. We ended up taking the food home to go. As far as the food I got, they were actually delicious. but i felt there was something else missing. my combination plate came with one grilled pepper and some sliced onions and rice. i was hoping for some more variety with my plate. some tomatoes, or maybe grilled veggies. The older woman who took my order was really nice.

According to my Yelp buddies, this is one of Celebrity Chef David Chang's favorite spot to eat in Los Angeles? Let's go! This CASH ONLY hole-in-the-wall serves real deal Armenian BBQ that uses charcoal to grill their meats and where food is made to order by the pit master owner. He is very nice and so are the staff. Expect a small wait time for delicious food. We walked up to the outdoor setup, and after ordering we waited maybe 25 to 30 minutes. The PRO local tip is to call in your order ahead of time. Their menu is very simple. BBQ meats (pork, beef, lamb, chicken), freshly made sides, can drinks. The menu has Armenian-Russian influence: (pelmeni, blinchik, Georgian dumplings, olivier potato and beet salad, Russian carrot salad, etc); with some middle-eastern flare (hummus, mutabal, lebni). Everything we ordered was so tasty and delicious! The meats are very flavorful and no sauces are needed; but the BBQ it's grilled WELL-DONE, so order it accordingly if you like your meat on the "medium-rare to medium" side. My favorite place in Glendale for Armenian BBQ are : Mini Kabob, Raffi's, Elena's. Hamlet's is pretty stellar too, except they their BBQ well -done.

This spot is the real deal. Bring cash. The lamb chops are incredible, and portions are generous. Note that while they have a couple tables out front, it is primarily a takeout spot.

Hidden gem tucked away inside a strip mall. Had a hard time finding the place since GPS said we had arrived but we did not see the restaurant and later found out its tucked away behind the right side of the mall. Not sure if it was becuase we got there closer to closing time but there was no space to eat inside. We ordered pork ribs and combination lula kabob. FYI this place is CASH only! I heard that they make their onw charcoal there. We were in Glendale to pick up my phone from Samsung and friend of us suggested to try this spot and I am glad we did. Its a must eat spot if you are in the area. Full of flavor and surprisingly lot of food comes in your order. At first I thought it was slighly overpriced but we had leftovers afterwards. Just wish they were closer to where I am but this would be my spot to go to whenever I am near Glendale.

I am mad that I never drove far enough down York to discover this place and only discovered it…read moreafter it was suggested for a lunch meetup. I needed this place in my life sooner! Let's start with the drink....I'm not a fan of anything rose flavored or scented so I wanted to make sure the rose flavor wasn't too strong in the Jallab. Since I was told the rose flavor is pretty prominent, it was suggested I do the Jallab with lemonade. What a perfect selection! I didn't pick up any rose flavor and the drink was so pretty. This is a refreshing alternative if you don't want to go with a soda. I already had my heart set on the appetizers and fortunately the other person was on board with the same choices. For dippers, I always go with a yogurt and cucumber appetizer and the Babaghanouj did not disappoint. These sides came with three pieces of pita bread. Neither side was overly garlicky and paired well with my entree. If you love cheese borek like I do, get you some cheese rolls. My only regret is only getting one. The cheese rolls were perfectly flavored and not overly salty. Now for the entree...I already had my eye on three meats so the waitress said to go with The Your Way Plate, which came with a kafta and tenderloin skewer. I also added a lamb skewer on the side. Both my lamb and tenderloin skewer were cooked medium and they were perfect. Lamb is one of those dishes that can be a hit or miss because if it's not cooked right, it will be chewy - mine was perfect! And, the spices they use to cook the lamb in will have you trying to pick up every last drop of juice with your pieces of meat. No complaints with the kafta either. I chose rice as my side because I love me the carbs. We went on a weekday for lunch and parking was easy enough to find on a side street. The staff was friendly and there was indoor and outdoor seating options. This place gets a yummy in my tummy rating and I will be back sooner rather than later.

My go-to order is the lamb kebab plate with half rice and half cabbage salad. The lamb is always cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and incredibly flavorful (I usually order it medium well). The rice is delicious, but I especially love the cabbage salad, which is tossed in a bright, refreshing mix of lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic. It's the perfect balance to the rich, savory lamb, and the meal always leaves me feeling satisfied without being overly heavy. The restaurant has very limited indoor seating, so if you can, I'd recommend dining in. This is one of those meals that's best enjoyed fresh and piping hot. I like taking my time cutting the lamb into bite-sized pieces and savoring every bite. If you're planning to order takeout instead, I'd suggest the combo plate with the chicken, tenderloin, and ground beef skewers, also with half rice and half cabbage salad. Those meats are softer and easier to enjoy on the go, especially if you're eating shortly after picking it up. And don't skip the garlic sauce--it is absolutely delicious and takes everything to the next level. Simple, fresh, and consistently well-executed, Skaf's On York has definitely earned a spot as one of my favorite restaurants in Highland Park.

Atmosphere:I went with my gusband on a weekday night, the place was not busy. The vibe/atmosphere is gorgeous! Not pretentious , yet upscale. modern, boho, and elegant in an accessible way that makes you feel welcome. The open air concept is right up my alley, especially during a warm summer night. For those complaining about the train: we're not in the suburbs! This is Los Angeles! The train was one of my favorite parts of the whole experience! It is not common to be able to dine at a Michelin restaurant tucked away in a quiet neighborhood that is so close to the heart of the city. I loved watching the train go by! Food: Wow. Bread, the sauces , the flavors. I don't think i need to say more, i was blown away. We had starters and a main and it was just right. WIne : Another 5 star experience. The only slight downside is its location right next to the train tracks , when a train passes, it creates quite a bit of noise, but it didn't ruin the lively vibe of our dinner. The Food The fusion Mediterranean menu has plenty of great options, and we definitely stuffed ourselves: House-Made Pita Bread: An absolute must-order. It comes out warm, fluffy, and fresh--we loved it so much we ended up eating five orders. Paired perfectly with the dips and cherry tomato spread. Whole Dorade: A major highlight of the table. Perfectly cooked fish served in a rich, savory cherry tomato sauce. Beef Shish Kabob: Incredibly tender, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor. Grilled Octopus: Flavors and presentation were nice, though the texture was a bit tough and over-charred/grilled on our visit. Service & Final Thoughts The service was warm, attentive, and kept everything moving smoothly all night. Aside from the train noise and the slightly overdone octopus, everything else hit the spot. Great food, great company, and we'll definitely be back for the fish and pita bread!

And the fried chicken was AMAZING. Shwarma that is breaded with an amazing mixture and fried. Genius! The plates also came with hummus topped with whole chickpeas (YUM), dilled rice, a cabbage salad and other greens, grilled pita bread, olives and my personal favorite, pickled radishes. Many reviews describe them as beets (which I also love) but these are radishes and they pair so well with the rich meat. An umami bomb!
