My husband and I started going to Han Noodle Bar about a year ago and tend to eat there every couple weeks. It is some of the best food in Rochester and we recommend it to anyone that will listen. Steamed Buns are the best but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My favorite is the Roasted Pork Udon Noodle Broth bowl. Being Taiwanese, I craved for a noodle and small-dish restaurant. I was ecstatic when this place opened AND was good. Ok enough about me, on to the food. Pork dumpling - delicious! They make their own!! Crispy tofu curry sauce - It is as it says. Wasn't blown away, but was tasty. Scallion pancake, sour cream - small portion, but crispy and good. Never thought to dip it in sour cream (normally it's soy sauce), but it works! Steamed bun - I haven't seen this at any other Chinese restaurant in ROC. I had the Shiitaki and bamboo and love it. So tasty esp with the sauce! Beef noodle soup - very popular dish. very good. Roast duck soup (A10) - The duck was good, but I had a lot of bone with my duck. Don't know if it was just my particular cut, or if that's always the case. Other than that the broth and meat were both good. Dan dan mian (B3) - a dry (non-soup) noodle dish with a pork-based meat sauce. It is definitely spicy! If you like spicy, try this one out. Beef HoFein w/ youchai (B10) - Get it. It's sooo good!! They do a great job making this particular dish. It's similar to the beef pepper steak dish you might get any Chinese take-out place, but this is made with "he fun" noodles which are rectangular and has a similar thickness as linguine, scallions, and bean sprouts. Highly recommended! Ginger scallion oil, bamboo and shiitaki (B4) - I personally like this dish a lot, but it might be enough for some people. It's a dry noodle dish mixed in with the ginger scallion oil and then topped with more scallions, bamboo, and shiitaki mushrooms. If you want something a little lighter, get this. The shiitaki mushrooms and bamboo give this dish a nice flavor. I can't remember which rice dishes I've tried, but they've all been good. To give you an idea of the legitimacy of this place, whenever my parents (Taiwanese immigrants) came to visit they always went here to eat. Bottom line: If you want to try more authentic Chinese food GO HERE!! PS. I don't think they deliver anymore. But you can still order takeout. read more

Very good Cantonese style Chinese food. My parents and I loved the dishes there such as the casserole dishes with beef in them. My kungpao chicken was cooked very well. The main problem with this restaurant is the ventilation though - sometimes the cooking leads to smoky conditions in the restaurant. They should invest in better exhaust fan. Love the food! Everything is always delicious and priced fairly. The only aspect that I don't like about the business is that more often than not they get my order wrong over the phone. I think I speak clearly but the two last times I ordered over the phone they completely messed up my order. Granted it was very busy and loud so I can see how it could be difficult. I've come to hangout noodle about three or four times in my life. Most recently I went with my family who does not go out to eat very often. The restaurant itself is somewhat small and is open kitchen style so you can see the chefs making your food. It was a pretty busy night when we went but we waited maybe 10 minutes to be seated. We all ordered different bowls of noodles and tried each other's. The noodles were very good and you have the option to switch out noodles for a little extra ($1ish). My sister is a fan of adding a little heat and our server mentioned that they could make the seafood noodles spicy! We were all starving so we ordered pork and beef buns. They were a great appetizer to get us started! The meat basically melted in your mouth and the juices seeped into the bun making it extra soft! Our noodles came and they were delicious! It was our first visit to Han and it was a good one. I am a advocate of simple, fresh and authentic taste, especially when it comes to Chinese food (Cantonese in particular). Afterall, this is a noodle/rice house so it only makes sense to order ourselves soup noodles and rice plates. As a treat, we added a side order of the braised pork buns that everyone online raves about. Let me just first say, this was the best young-chow fried rice that I've tasted for a long long time. Aside from places in Toronto, no one else comes close (that includes NYC). The portion wasn't small either. What a nice surprise that was. As the second order, the noodle soup with braised pork was served in a thin clear broth and egg noodles. Just the way we wanted it. Even though this noodle soup was tasty, I do have to say though that the Cantonese egg noodle was not as stringy, chewy and snappy as it came to expect (according to my guest, it had a texture more towards ramien). Lastly, the braised pork buns were a bit more ordinary, not enough to call it a disappointment however. The buns were barely lukewarm and they didn't look like they came straight out of a steamer (they weren't dry per se). The meat however was very well seasoned and was everything we came to expect. It was perfectly cooked and the meat/fat ratio was just right. Perhaps it wasn't fair to be critical at all about any of our orders from Han, as this was still Upstate NY. The food was far better than most places that we have visited and it was definitely quality enough to bring us back. The fried rice alone deserved every bit of my 4 stars if not more. After seeing all the great reviews, I really wanted to love this place as much as others. But, my own experience was mixed. I ordered take-out, sticking to just their small plates-Scallion Pancake, Veggie Springroll, Crispy Tofu Curry, Mushroom Steamed Buns and Steamed Veggie Dumplings. As soon as I arrived to pick it up, I became skeptical. An overwhelming smell of grease greeted me as I walked in the front door. Now, it's an 'open kitchen', but still... wow, that grease was thick in the air. I wondered if I would smell like it, if I sat down and ate in the dining room, it was that intense. When I got home, I realized why. The food was VERY greasy. The scallion pancake didn't taste like scallion, it just tasted like grease... I didn't enjoy it at all.. it was limp in the hand, and mushy in the mouth. Really disappointing, since this got such high reviews. I'd order it again if I go back, to see if it's better.. maybe it was just an off night. Although, it's hard to beat the amazing scallion pancakes (the size of your head!) at Sodam... now those rock. The fried veggie spring roll was, ironically, not as greasy... though not as light and crunchy as the ones at SEA. Not very flavorful... it was sour and sort of mushy inside. I would not order that again, even on a good day. Just not very inspired, or inspiring. The Crispy Tofu Curry was by far the best dish... though I wish it had come with rice. Still, the tofu was light and silken, with a crispy battered skin... and the curry sauce was delish... this is one of the best tofu dishes I've had in Rochester. A must try. I do love that they put effort into their vegetarian dishes. Golden Dynasty in Loehman's Plaza does that as well.. but Han's is better. The Mushroom Steamed Buns were quite fun, although way too salty. The bun itself? Perfection. Pillowy, billowy, soft and sweet. I'd sleep on one if I could. I loved, loved that they had a veggie version... not everyone wants pork. The mushrooms were drenched in a similar sauce as the pork gets, I imagine... which on one hand was nice, but on the other, felt like it was trying a bit too hard. I like mushrooms to taste like... well, fresh mushrooms. Steamed Veggie Dumplings wee also a highlight dish. Simple, but well prepared and flavorful. I wish they had edamame in them! They were light, not at all sticky, and very flavorful. I'd definitely order them again. I'll go back... I'd like to see how they average out over a few more times. This place sits right next door to Dogtown on Monroe Avenue. I certainly did not see any noodles at the bar when I got there but the food was off the hook good! We started with fresh shrimp spring rolls and fried shrimp spring rolls. It was so good I had to go for a second order of the fresh ones. The sauces were thick and as tasty as any spring roll sauce I ever had. The lady of the house decided to go with the Scallion Lamb and was smiling at me like a million dollar lottery winner after the first bite. I went for the scallion beef and it was so good I darn near ate the plate too! The service was spot on and those cats in the kitchen don't mess around. We were served quicker than you can say Jackie Chan and we were delighted with the whole experience. I am knocking off one star because the windows and door glass were dirty but I give Han Noodle Bar 4 big fat Indonesian cuisine stars and I am going to have one heck of a hard time driving pass this place without stopping. If you want some great Chinese food without the guilt of traditional take-out, then this is your place. We stopped here after attending a game at Blue Cross Arena because I couldn't stop thinking about General Tsos. We parked on a side street and were surprisingly seated right away around 6:30PM on a Saturday night. The restaurant is pretty small and is apparent they do a lot of take out too. The menu is quite extensive but I went right for the pork belly buns + BF wanted the crab rangoons. We debated the menu while we snacked - everything from the noodle dishes to broth bowls and traditional chicken looked so good. I was disappointed in the pork belly buns. They weren't a slab of pork belly but rather a slab of pork. But they were tasty. The rangoons tasted fresh and had lots of gooey cream cheese but minimal crab flavor. They were a tad greasy. I obviously landed on the General Tsos and BF ordered the pepper steak. I had the side of fried rice, he went steamed. I received a giant plate of piled chicken, so warm and just the right amount of spice. The best part was the chicken wasn't all breading, they coated it light enough and were generous with portions. The pepper steak was so tender. I could not finish it all so I took some home for lunch the next day that tasted just as good. All this food for about $10 a main dish!!
