The broth was rich without being too heavy, and the bowl was generously loaded with crab, tofu, crab cake, fresh herbs, noodles, and snails. A tip for anyone trying it for the first time: be sure to mix in the mắm ruốc (fermented shrimp paste) and the ground Thai chili paste. Those two condiments elevate the broth and bring out the authentic flavors. I stopped by during my lunch break and was in and out in about 45 minutes, including dining in. The service was fast, attentive, and efficient. It appeared to be a family-run restaurant with the husband, wife, and son working together. Duoc, who helped me, provided excellent service. Came here for lunch because I was craving bun rieu. I ordered number 8 on the menu and the food arrived quickly. I appreciate all the condiments that this restaurant offers. The bun rieu broth was delicious and I loved the pork blood. My only complaints are 1) there was not enough noodles for a $15 bowl, so if you don't add any vegetables into your soup then you might not be full and 2) it was really hot inside the restaurant; no AC? First time here, very cozy little place. I think menu only consists of 2 items. Phở and bun rieu . I can't decide so I ordered both, ate the bun rieu there and took the Pho to go. I must say both were legit. Bonus , I love the fact that they have everything you need at your table. Straws , chopsticks , dipping plate, napkins . This place is pretty legit. It's tucked in a strip mall, and when I got there around 2pm there was only one other table occupied. I ordered the bun rieu oc, and the first taste of the broth honestly blew me away. The flavors were so deep and layered, just straight umami on umami. Everything, from the herbs to the toppings, tasted super fresh. I didn't grow up in a Vietnamese household, but I make it a point to hunt down bun rieu whenever I'm around the Garden Grove area, and I'd easily put this spot in my top two. This is your typical Vietnamese restaurant in terms of decor and layout is simple, no-frills, and very traditional. We stopped by because we heard they had good bún riêu, and since it was Lent and we can't eat meat on Fridays, it felt like the perfect dish to try. We came straight from the airport and the place was pretty empty, so we received immediate service. It seemed like a one-man show, and he was very nice and attentive. The food also came out fairly quickly, which we appreciated. Because we couldn't have meat, we didn't get the full experience of the bún riêu had no blood cubes or giò, which definitely would have made a big difference in flavor and texture. That said, the riêu (crab patties) tasted very authentic with real crab meat, and the broth itself was flavorful and comforting. It was good overall; I just wish we could have tasted it the traditional way to truly rate it fairly. I ended up giving it 3 stars mainly because it was extremely hot inside. It didn't feel like the air conditioning was on, and I was sweating the entire time. Omg this is absolutely my favorite bun rieu spot. The broth is light and crabby, plus I love everything that they add in it. And the snails are the perfect size and is fresh. I've been to Vietnam and eaten their bun rieu but this place might be better. This is probably my 5th time here. I believe the owner is a husband and wife and they are super sweet and welcoming. We came in for lunch Friday. The place was nice, clean, quiet with 12 tables but there were no guests. We were the only couple there for 2 hours. There were no pick up orders either. This place is dead. We ordered 2 bun rieu oc cua dong $16, which is highly rated here. The bowl was good sized, came with lots of proteins, chunks of crab cake, fish cake, blood cubes, also lots of greens and herbs, shredded papaya bud and morning glory, very authentic. The soup was tasty but very fishy due to the frozen mud crab cake, difficult to eat. I bought this item from market and had the same fishy odor problem. The crabs were not processed and frozen fresh due to lack of refrigeration equipment. They get spoiled in the process. Even 5-star resorts in Vietnam have problems with spoiled and fishy smelling seafood due to spoilage. In HCMC Bun Rieu Ganh and Banh Canh Cua Ca Mau near Ben Thanh market got 1 Michelin star each but their soups also smells and tastes way too fishy due to spolied crabs, not good to eat. They also have very few clients. In Little Saigon CA, Bun Ba Ba on Westminster Ave served the same fishy bun rieu cua dong with fishy-smelling mud crab cake, not popular. The place closed down after a couple years. I have not tried other dishes at Han's Kitchen, but their complete lack of clients for lunch on Friday is proof of problems. The other well-known bun rieu place, Van Rest on Brookhurst, serves nice clean, tasty, creamy, good-smelling bun rieu crab soup, very popular, packed with hundreds clients day and night. I want Han's Kitchen to succeed. They should modify their recipes and menu. Good luck. read more

I've seriously never eaten bun rieu at a restaurant. I've only had it at home settings made by my mom or her friends. I thought the bun rieu tasted good and it came out hot. I need my soup broths hot! Also, they were generous with the tofu and meats. However, my bowl did not have any blood cubes but my mom got like 3 or 4 so she shared with me. This is easily the best Bun Rieu in OC. Service/Ambiance: The customer service here is top tier. It's owned by the sweetest people. The man there always greets me with a warm smile and such kind energy. I saw a terrible review and was heartbroken to see that someone dogged on this business. This business is in a food court and you go up to the register to order. It's not a glitz and glam restaurant it's a mom and pop shop. A hole in the wall gem. Han's Kitchen is located inside Lucky Seafood Grocery Store, towards the back. Food Consensus: I have picky Vietnamese parents and they LOVE the Bun Rieu here! The Bun Rieu is special here because they have shrimp and crab meat cubes. The flavor is on point for a Bun Rieu. It's light and full of crab and shrimp flavor. BUN RIEU BUN RIEU BUN RIEU that is the name of the game and they play it well here. I love bun rieu and if you all don't know what that us I will edumacate you. The base is comprised of a lot of fresh tomatoes, aromatics like shallots, and crabs/dried shrimp. The real good ones uses more crabs, than dried shrimp, typically cua dong crabs. Than the toppings would include more crab parts like the meat or brains and or a meat cake. You can be fancy and add OC, escargot, like this place did but totally not necessary. This place makes it SO good and I dare say similar to Mom's. Sorry Mom. One bowl is only $13 and they give you a variety of delicious meats, about 4 different variety. You can add the escargot for and extra $2. The escargot has a good crunchy texture and does not smell at all. So this was a total accidental find located in a lesser known Lucky supermarket. Hans restaurant is tucked all the way in the back and make sure to keep left when you enter the front entrance. Don't head into the market towards the right. The vibe is what you'd expect of a Vietnamese food hall, so don't expect too much but theres 2 places in here alone that I'm sure would keep the supermarket afloat. This and the vegetarian restaurant that I would write about on the vegetarian's yelp page. So back to Hans, the other dishes I tried besides the bun rieu oc is the Hu Tieu Nam vang, also yummy and priced well! Bun rieu $13 5 stars! Bun rieu + Oc escargo 5 stars! You get a serving of the light one and dark one. Escargot was super crunchy - Could use some dipping sauce to compliment it.. Broth should be served more piping hot. Located in a food court in a grocery store the Plaza is very interesting with a mix of everything as you drive through. The food court looks new as there were a few new food spots including dim sum. The menu isn't huge here, easy to order. They cook the thit nuong to order. The bun rieu smelled really good, could have added a little more meat bit overall was good.
