I work in the 10128 zip code, and have not been able to find decent sushi in this area at an afordable price, until I found Hanabi! (Stay away from Yummy Sushi & Kita Sushi, both on 1st Ave) The food is good. Is it the best sushi I ever ate? No, but it's good. It taste fresh and has no foul fishy odor. I ordered through eat24hours.com, it was easy and the food came quite quickly. The amount of food they give you at such an affordable price is what keeps me coming back. I ordered a bento box through Grubhub and it came with pretty much everything I needed. I ordered this lunch on seamless last Friday, so I've not actually been to the brick and mortar. I can tell you my weakness is Japanese food so really anything close to where I work is a place I need to try. Unfortunately, this place I ordered #9 Salmon Teriyaki and California Roll Bento Box. The food came really quickly which as nice but the salmon for starters was fatty (yes fatty) some of the skin was left on and it was fatty so I assume not the best quality, second, the roll although most of it is ingredients that takes a long time to go bad I thought did smell and taste a bit fishy. Here are 3 reasons why Hanabi should be at the top of your list...particularly when it comes to take out. Delivery Orders - Every-time I call to place an order the process is seamless, quick and wonderfully efficient. Cheap - You can spend $35 on 2 people and have left overs. They are quite generous with they're portions. Food - Your food isn't being prepared by Morimoto but it's more than a decent bite. Always fresh and fairly flavorful. I am a severe sushi critic, so no, this is not the best sushi you could buy. But at the price and speed of delivery, this is a great place for the UES-- its reasonably priced, reasonably fresh, with a reasonably varied menu. All in all... very reasonable. Go for the chirashi if you want something filling (more rice for the win!), or any of their lunchbox/bento sets-- the latter is super cheap, considering that you can get 3 or 4 different things in a single box for under/around $10. read more

I've only recently started ordering from here. Delivery is ridiculously quick and the portions are great and reasonably priced. Due to NYC being on PAUSE I always ask my delivery person to please leave the food in the lobby. The first time I ordered from them they even called me to make sure I got my food since they saw very specific no contact request, which I thought was nice. We order from here via Seamless all the time, but have never eaten at the restaurant. We always go for the spicy xxx (xxx=any fish) rolls, which are awesome. The amount of wasabi is enough, and soy is enough too, which is rare. Could be more ginger though. Good prices bumps it up from a four to a five! read more

I was quite impressed with my experience with Hanabi. I ordered from them on seamless and even though I live around 20 blocks away they were there in under 20 minutes. For $15 I got enough food for 2 people and leftovers for a snack the next day. The edamame was fine though a little under cooked and under salted for my taste. The miso soup had a decent amount of nori and tofu though the broth could have used a little bit more salt. We ordered a 3 roll combo which came with a salmon and avocado, tuna and avocado, and yellow tail and avocado rolls. Its a great deal for $11 and all of them tasted decent. It wasn't the best sushi ever but for $15 I'm not complaining, I'd definitely order from them again. read more

This place just opened this week, replacing an empty storefront. I ate lunch there today, and it's a winner. Here's why: 1. Cheap. The Upper East Side is a bastion of overpriced sushi joints. Hanabi is unbelievably cheap. I had a three roll combo (tuna avocado, salmon avocado and yellowtail avocado) with soup for under $8! The dinner prices are only about $0.50 more than the lunch prices. There are a litany of entree options under $7. I guess these guys are planning on doing a volume business. 2. Great service. Friendly staff, who spoke English, had no problem taking my order, and had my order ready within minutes. 3. Quality food. I love sushi but know that I'm not a connoisseur. Sure, the quality of the fish isn't going to be what you get for 4x the money, but overall it's pretty good. I'm pleased. 4. Nice environment. There are some nice styling cues in the renovated space. Not perfect--there were a few things I didn't understand--but good enough. It's a take-out environment, which is fine with me. The important thing is that it is comfortable, and they keep it clean. I'm very happy to see this place come to the neighborhood. I'm often in the mood for sushi and end up doing something else because I can't bring myself to overpay for it. I always like to try new places... especially when I'm giving my business to the UES 2nd ave restaurants that are suffering financially due to the never-ending 2nd ave subway construction. I usually look up restaurants online but i found out about this place the old school menu-under-the-door way. The prices were so cheap for sushi that I couldn't not try it. How bad could it be? Well, it wasn't terrible (I mean, I did eat all of it). It just wasn't as fresh as I wanted it to be and I definitely wouldn't order from here again. It's unfortunate because a lot of the special rolls sound so appealing. I liked the concept of the hanabi special roll, but in reality, it was a disappointment, as was everything else. We order their Party Roll Platter which is 80 pieces (1 tiger roll, 1 California roll, 1 eel & cucumber roll, 1 tuna & avocado roll, 1 salmon & avocado roll, 1 alaska roll, 1 lobster roll, 1 spicy tuna roll, 1 spicy yellow tail roll and 1 rainbow roll). Is there better sushi out there? YES! Can you beat the prices at Hanabi? NO. The sushi is decent and while you can get better options out there, if you're looking for a cheap, afforable sushi option that isn't your grocery store box this is a good delivery option.
