    Strawberry daifuku

I first found hanaichi at the tustin farmer's Market on a Saturday! The tent was well decorated and clean. Ana kindly offered my husband and me samples and took the time to thoroughly explain the mochi to us. After our initial purchase, we have been able to place multiple orders for our events and family members throughout the past several months. They have also been releasing new flavors which have been consistently delicious! Currently they have the dubai chewy cookie (두쫀쿠), which has been trending all over korea and tiktok, in mochi form. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for unique desserts to share with family, friends, or coworkers at any event, small or large!

I just tried the mochis yesterday at the Tustin night farmers market and they were excellent. They use sweet strawberry for the daifuku and make their own fillings. The black sesame filled mochi was incredible. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Thank you!

I've been craving "good quality" mochi lately, so I just casually looked up on yelp without any expectation and found this place. I'm so so glad that I gave it a try!!! Such a gem in OC. I suppose they are a small local store that comes to farmers markets and have some pickups scheduled at the sharing kitchen - but the quality is just the top notch. My favorite was the Daifuku with strawberry. The mochi is super soft and tender, perfectly chewy inside, and it goes so well with fruits. The anko inside daifuku has perfect sweetness - not too sweet! Highly recommended!!! Also the owners were super friendly with my confusing order too.

Hunted this mochi place down at the farmers market, and it was sooo yummy!!! They gave us some samples to try. We ordered a 10 box set. Our favorite flavors were the black sesame, sakura, and original. The mochi texture was super chewy and bouncy and fillings were so delicious!! The matcha one was a bit faint in terms of matcha flavor. This would make for a great gift as it's also packaged really cutely :)

Hanaichi has to be one of my top mochi spots and I grew up on mochi! I'm admittedly super critical of mochi, but this is in my top 3 (won't say which LA area one it beat out, but yes its that good). Because it's handmade, the mochi is very soft but still has the slight chew so it's not just stretchy. Because they brush off excess flour, you're not getting yourself all messy. They do well with their ratio of red bean so that both components have the chance to shine. My partner kinda hates red bean but they actually didn't mind this one. Hanaichi makes their paste very smooth so you're never biting into a full bean. I told the worker how we actually liked the red bean and he said its a whole 12 hour process to make it! I typically go for the original daifuku (which has the red bean), but their hojicha (my partner's choice) is really good as well. They also have matcha and black sesame, and actually do the black sesame justice by making it not too sweet and not too strong, nor do they add chocolate which I feel like a lot of other dessert shops do to sweeten and hide the sesame. He also said the plan to come out with a sakura (cherry blossom) flavor which I'm excited for. Adding a strawberry or grape to your mochi brings in a fresh, juicy-ness which pairs very well. They take card but also have a cash discount. Since they're fresh and don't have preservatives, I'm not sure how long they last. I try to eat them by the next day. I know other handmade mochi places say not to refrigerate mochi and eat within a certain amount of days, so I'm pretty sure that'll be the case of Hanaichi's. Otherwise, I'd order a full catering set if I could LOL I've visited their stand in Brea farmer's market (near the Brea Mall) the past couple weeks and just could not resist their mochi, but they are also just a great local family business. It's run by a couple, Ken (the husband) is usually out at the stand. You could tell that he really cares for their product as he takes the time to individually brush off excess mochiko flour off each piece and cut a slit to place a piece of fruit on top of your mochi after you order to carefully pack them. He actually dropped the strawberry he initially picked up back into the container on accident and picked a new one (A+ attention to detail). All the while he's making conversation. He even remembered us after our first visit. Hard not to like the guy lol They're at Irvine Regional Park Farmer's Market on Tuesdays, Brea Farmer's Market on Thursdays, pick up only in Costa Mesa on Fridays, and Tustin Old Town Farmer's Market on Saturdays. I tried looking them up on yelp, facebook, and instagram and could only find their website and tiktok so I figured it was time they had at least a yelp review! Highly recommend!!!

Their stand is across from the bakery within the Northgate but they also have their own entrance if you don't want to walk through the hustle and bustle of the market. Decorated almost entirely with small tiles, it is a really cute place that's slinging out great churros. All you gotta do is order at a window where a cashier will take down your order and then wait in the side for your freshly made churros. I'm always down for a classic churro hot chocolate combo (French is my preference for the richness) but if you're trying to beat the heat, you can't go wrong with condensed milk either. I will say it does air on the sweet side but I view it as a small indulgence every now and again. Every crispy bite makes it worth it!

I'm Filipino and was tickled to hear about the flavors...Ube Pandesal Toffee, Banana Turon Crunch & Mango Sticky Rice. We tried the Ube Pandesal Toffee and I'm quite amazed how they were able to capture that unique flavor. I grew up with making an "ice cream" sandwich by putting ice cream in a pandesal and tasting this just unleashed a core memory of being young and making an ice cream sandwich that way. We will definitely be back to try the other flavors! When we arrived there was a few people in line and when the line grew a bit, I think it was a manager that stopped what he was doing to jump in and help with customers which I thought was very considerate of him to do. Lastly, the location was charming and tucked away in the corner of the plaza. It had a few tables outside and in the adjacent Pop Pie shop to sit for a few minutes to enjoy the ice cream! I highly recommend if you're not into crowds. There was only one person ahead of me and ordering was super easy through the kiosk. I went with the matcha and the hokkaido milk swirl on a cone. First bite, I tried the milk side on its own, and I loved how light it was. Not overly sweet. Then I tried the matcha by itself. It tasted earthy and had that matcha flavor. When I combined the swirl together , the matcha definitely took the spotlight. It kind of overpowered the milk swirl but I didn't mind it because I'm a matcha lover. It still balanced out nicely. Just more on the earthy matcha side. Oh, and let's not forget about the waffle cone. It was perfectly crunchy and tasted so good with my soft served. Also, shoutout to the employee who handed me my order. He was super friendly, welcoming, and all smiles which always makes the experience better.

My husband and I would go to mitsuwa just to get it and would frequently bring our out of towners here just for the Hokkaido soft serve. It's bland and very icy. Reminds me of the cheap, free ayce soft serve you get for free at some bbq jpints. So disappointing. Hopefully, it's just an off day for the machine or something. But if it's a permanent change, we will no longer come back.

Timing & Atmosphere: * Avoid Weekends: I would not recommend coming here on a weekend. The store is tiny, and because it's right next to all the bars, the area gets crowded with a lot of drunk people. If that isn't your scene, stick to a weekday visit. * Rewards: It is quite expensive, but it's a nice treat. Plus, you can sign up with your phone number to get discounts for future visits.
