I've been going to a few different places in the Westlake Village area (I work out there) and I just really wanted a place closer to where I live. I tried Hands to Hold. Not impressed. I went for a gel manicure and a pedicure. They put me in a very uncomfortable chair and my legs are going one way and my arms another. I'm also short, so it was quite uncomfortable. They need to invest in some good pedicure chairs. The whole place seemed quite dated. The lady doing my pedicure just did a very sub par job. She did a minute or so of cuticle work and less than that on my calluses. My feet and heels are already in pretty good shape, but she left me with rough heels. Her polishing skills are just awful. There is polish covering my cuticles on top of my skin. My big toenails (which I keep probably too short) don't match in length. My gel manicure is okay. I wanted a French manicure. I asked what color the pink would be and she said everyone liked it. I think it is to fleshy. I was hoping for a pinker color and apparently they didn't have it, where all the other places I have gone to do a much prettier pink. I told her at least 3 times that I wanted the white quite wide, not a thin strip. She just couldn't get it. Did it once, I asked for wider, did it again, asked again. I think I was making her nervous because it just was not what I wanted. I finally gave up. Also my nails feel a little tacky, not as smooth as I think they should. So far the jury is out as I am holding my breath hoping I get at least a few weeks out of it. Regardless, I won't be going back. read more

They don't speak much English but you can tell they are having fun, doing their thing and providing great service for customers. One staff member who makes appoints is very nice another is incredibly rude , I was on time and no one was available to do my pedicure . I wish I could give 0 stars, this place is horrible, the quality of gel/ polish is so poor, the gel on my nails came off the next day, my nails feel so rough it's like they've never been filed. I didn't have an appointment and but the receptionist Carla manage to squeeze me in and gave me an appointment for next week as well. I get anxiety when it comes to trying new nail salons. And I wasn't expecting anything great after reading the reviews but I happened to be in the plaza and desperately needed a mani/pedi. Their prices are about the same as other salons in the area but the interior is outdated and doesn't feel much like a nail salon. Feels more like a factory. They have about 30 stations in a space that isn't all that big. But it is fairly clean. Debbie did a really good job on my gel manicure and she was really sweet. I can't remember the name of the lady that did my pedicure but I wasn't too happy with the quality of her work. It started out great, she did a good job with the cutting and filing but after she painted my toes they looked pretty bad. Which is why I can't give them the 5th star. She was nice but I wouldn't go back to her. Overall my experience was ok and I'll probably come back thanks to Debbie. read more

Recently being in this area, I've needed a nail place to clean up the scruff I am not inclined to do myself. Plus, what girl doesn't enjoy a little pampering. Upon entry, I'm noticing no one is here but me & an angry faced woman getting her nails done & with what appears to be a long overdue shoulder massage. I'm asked to be seated near a window, but once I was settled in, David politely asked me to have a seat in an area with more light. I came in for a mani/pedi no polish. David & Debbie took care of me in a flash! Digits soaked, scraped & clipped. We chatted politely & I asked them about business, everything about their timing down to the tandem hand/foot massage was excellent. They're terrific & my ends look tip top clean. Checking out... Not so exuberant. I just paid $30 for a 10 minute experience & that's fine... But please tell your receptionist to have a better attitude. Had a 15-min appointment at 10:00.(first appointment of the day). I arrived at the salon on time and the technician wasn't there yet. The receptionist (Heather) was quite nonchalant about it ("It's only 10:00, perhaps there's traffic"), as if in LA there wasn't traffic every day. She had no idea what time the technician would arrive. After waiting for 10 minutes (again, this was supposed to be a 15-min appointment) I pointed out that I couldn't wait any longer because I had a flight to catch. I had the impression that tardiness is a daily occurrence at this salon and no one cares. Ironically, they have a prominent sign posted, stating that "appointments are held for 10 minutes only" - so they expect punctuality from their clients, but not from their staff. read more

Clean. Easy to make appointments. No difficulty in communicating over the phone. Ive had both pedicure and manicures here. They have a really large selection of gel polish colors too. Probably the largest selection I have seen around. Don't expect a fancy massage chair type of pedicure. They have a few in the corner but it's a no nonsense pedicure in a plastic wash bin. For $20, I'm good with that. The last few times the ladies have been excruciatingly slow so that why I knocked off a star. My only other major disappointment is that I leaned today that the waxing specialist Sudi is no longer working there and I had to learn from Yelp where to find her! She really is great. A very honest review: the first time I came here for a manicure they did not do a clean job, however they fixed it and I was pleased that they even offered. With that, I decided to go a third time. I did a gel manicure with Kim who did a nice job. I also got a pedicure which I'm not too happy about as the entire nail wasn't even painted, polish is already chipping after 2nd day and nails were cut uneven. And to be honest, I didn't even bother mentioning it, I just know I won't return. The gel color selection is not large, the overall experience is not comfortable as your sitting on office chairs and your feet are in a bucket (literally). In the past year this salon has gone down a ton. Was charged a little over $100 for a gel manicure and pedicure. Pricing was average to what I've spent in the area. Nothing out of the blue or amazing. The reason for my one star review is the two front desk women are obscenely rude. The younger woman much more than the other older lady. The manicurists and pedicurists are very sweet. The salon reeks of cigarettes and the lady is constantly trying to upsell bracelets and other random items after being super rude now suddenly trying to be nice. Honestly, I've been coming here for years, and I came early for an appointment. I spent an hour there and this is what I heard. The services are great, but the receptionists are awful. They mock the guests that call in, they are rude to the guests that actually are getting the service, and they are even worse to staff. First off... Can I just say how cute this was! It was Cinco de Mayo last week (forgot to post the day of) and of course I would think bars and restaurants would have decor to bring in more clientele. BUT a nail salon... They even had Mexican candy (which I wasn't shy about and took a couple lol) I don't get anything fancy, I've been going to Hands To Hold for a while now. Definitely a lot less due to Covid. Chris the receptionist is still there (sweet as always) and Carla now who is new to me but said she worked there 10 years ago or something like that. When I was paying, she asked if everything was good and when I said yes, she asked me if I could write a review for them and here I am! Again, nothing fancy, just a mani/pedi. They do good work, the environment is welcoming and in all honesty, with inflation and all, it's definitely one of the most affordable nail salons to go to and it's in Encino! I've tried new salons but I just keep going back here so it's safe to say this is my favorite nail salon. read more

I will not go back to this place for several reasons: 1. I opted for the basic mani / pedi ($30) and because I didn't go for the additional $5 "callous remover" they do a sloppy 3 second pumice scrub. 2. The snotty Ed Hardy tshirt girl at the front desk rushed me through picking my color, even though they had empty stations. 3. They don't even had standard bubbly foot spas. They use a plastic tub with luke warm water. 4. The clippers, cuticle devices did not look particularly sanitary so I DID NOT have them clip anything (should have walked on based on that) 5. And...my manicure lasted barely 2 days This is the 2nd place I've been to in Encino and both have really been bad - the other is Velvet Hands. The search continues... read more

I've noticed an odd phenomenon on Yelp, where a person has an experience that really doesn't sound all that bad, and yet they give a place three stars or fewer? I think Hands to Hold is suffering from a little underrating here on Yelp. I'd been to the other location once or twice, years ago, and I'd walked past this one a few times but never gone in. Always on the hunt for another nail place, I decided to give it a try, and while I was at it, to get a Brazilian from Sudi, who has waxed me once before. I called ahead (something I never bother to do if I'm just getting a fill) to make sure Sudi was there, and that she could see me. I also wanted to get information about their prices and whither or not I had to pay cash. The complaints written here by other yelpers about reception staff that is curt (or perceived as unfriendly) are well deserved. The girl who answered the phone basically just answered it to put me on hold. When she came back to me, I began to ask her a question, and she basically waited for me to stop making words so she could place me back on hold. I've worked a busy front desk before, and I am self-important and someone bitchy, so I immediately understood her tone as one of feeling busy and more important than the [stupid] question of some person on the phone. So, I fought fire with fire, and spoke faster and with a bitchy intonation. This worked perfectly. I was quickly given the information I needed, as well as an appointment time. The receptionist even sounded a little less bitchy, as my rudeness likely made obvious her rudeness. Sudi ripped all the hair off my whoo whoo in fifteen minutes flat. It was as painless as a Brazilian can possibly be. I wasn't even left a sticky, waxy mess afterwards, no irritation to speak of, and no swelling. My fill and pedicure were finished a little faster than other places I've been to, but I'm certainly NOT complaining about that. To me, getting my nails did, and my whoo whoo waxed are not fun events that I like to draw out- these are issues of basic maintenance and I consider them errands rather than spa treatments. The prices were moderate considering the Ventura Blvd. address and associated high rent. They had a really large selection of OPI polish, literally hundreds of colors, and the nail tech sterilized the drill bits in front of me as well, which I liked. All in all, I'd say my experience shakes down to four neat, tidy little stars, but of course, if this review was purely for Sudi, I'd give it five. I did not have an appointment but decided to stop by before my gym session. It is a clean, big salon. Right when I walked in, they checked their schedule a found someone that was available. I got a pedicure with callous remover $29? It isn't as comfortable as other salons I have been to. They do not have massage chairs but office chairs and bring something like a portable bucket with warm water... The lady that took care of me did not introduce herself or talk to me, she just did her job (which I guess is fine?). She was done in no time and when I was putting my sandals on (without drying my nails as they did not have LED dryer) I got one of the nails messed up. She was very nice and helped me get that nail fixed super quickly. You pay them tips and then go to the main check-out desk to pay for the service. I think it was more expensive than normal without any additional services that could reason the higher price. I might come back as it is next to my gym, so very convenient for me.
