The vibes are not what I expected at all! A semi fancier feel which matches up to the quality of the food here. Even though we came on Thanksgiving morning, it was pretty packed with customers. The prices are a bit higher than most KBBQ restaurants but my family and I enjoyed the quality, and considering we only ordered Combination B and the Bossam, it was enough to fill up the four of us AND take home a bit of leftovers. Finally made it to Hangang and tried their Lunch special. Very good deal, as $27.95 per person, you get one soup, rice and one meat. We have LA Kalbi and Kalbi patties. Patties very juice and don't underestimate 2 patties, makes you full. Banchan is good, I like them all. They also give you barley tea, which I like too. Hangang is still going and despite my earlier reservations about this place, I guess it's still going and going strong. On a Monday, there were people waiting. It wasn't full, but OTOH this was a Monday. Who goes out and spends $140 for 2 people on a Monday? I guess people do. I still think it's fairly expensive compared to almost any other Korean place, but I notice a few changes. They do seem to be giving more meat and the quality of the meat is still good. The menu has been cleared up and the wait staff understands and can explain exactly what you get. The beers can get expensive - the large Terra is $15 - which is closer to $8-$10 at other places. The service is still good and overall it's a slightly better value than before. The fact that they are still going and fairly busy on a Monday is a good sign. I was going to post more pictures but I see I pretty much ate the exact same items as before! This time I also had a fish dish which had a well cooked potato in there that was delicious. Great food, great service, parking, nice ambiance... its everything you could want in a Korean BBQ place. Everything we ate was top quality. The handsome staff assist with the cooking. They all seem to work well together and looked like they liked working together. Not something I necessarily require where I eat but it definitely adds to the ambiance. Great "sets" to choose from if you are having a hard time deciding what to eat. They give you several sauces- I like sesame oil. Meats are tender and the sides are top notch. food was good. they have a very wide selection of meats. didnt see any of the radish or rice wraps available though, which i like to use. they did have lettuce wraps though. but it was odd as we got (2) cabbage leaves amongst the romaine.... tons of banchan, no soup, onion salad and regular salad the bring your meat out on a separate cart and leave that by your table, which is good since the tables are so small and filled with banchan they also brought another small table for our seafood pancake they started to cook our meat, but then went away, so we werent sure if it was a cook your own thing or a they come cook it for you like some of the upscale places. they never came back so we just cooked our own different variety of korean beer than im used to (terra) but it was super good. i dont even know how many bottles we ended up ordering the only dessert that i think they had though was a pineapple that they give you at the end. it was super sweet and juicy staff are all super helpful and friendly. like that theres the button to call them when you want to order more not super smokey either so good ventilation would def go again. they were packed the entire time we were there, so def make reservations read more

Was craving KBBQ and stumbled here randomly. Absolutely loved this spot!! We came on a Saturday around 7pm and had to wait a little. The place was super busy! We ordered the prime beef 9 course meal and highly recommend that. Every meat dish was delicious. Banchan variety and quality was great! Come hungry!! And highly recommend getting the original Korean cold noodles (mul naengmyeon). My husband got the spicy one and there's a good kick. Only downside we sat next to the entrance to the area where the bathrooms are and it can be distracting. Service is a bit spotty since they were so busy. The booth we sat at has a call button, not sure if tables in the middle had it, so if you need something just use that button and they're quick to help. I usually like to eat here for lunch with my daughter or with friends. I got the lunch combination with soft tofu soup and short ribs. The lunch can be inconsistent. Sometimes the soup can be too salty or too lacking. Other times it's very good. The short ribs are only 3 pieces and sometimes we get one with barely any meat, just bone or fat which was disappointing. Their side dishes are very good. I like the different varieties. read more

Hangang is now one of our new favorite Korean restaurants in Honolulu! We had a family of 6 and we wanted to have Korean BBQ for our family get-together on the island. We had heard that Hangang is a new restaurant that is gaining popularity among Korean BBQ lovers. So, we took this opportunity to check out the restaurant. We absolutely loved every part of our experience. Service was fantastic, prompt, and thoughtful. We ordered several cuts of meat as well as a few naengmyuns (cold noodle) for all of us. A wonderful new Korean BBQ place. It's located on Waimanu St. just across from Ala Moana shopping center. There is a small parking lot and street parking available. The staff was very friendly. We had reservations and were seated right away. You have the option of set menus or ordering ala carte. We got the set menu. If you like banchan, this is the place. There are so many little dishes available and they are delicious. The quality of meat was good. There was so much food and I was so full by the end of the meal. Hangang is a more expensive kbbq experience that my cousins highly recommended due to the fresh and quality cuts of meat. Call for reservations beforehand. I called about 30 minutes prior to heading over and snagged a table for 2, otherwise you might have to wait if you're a walk-in. Alternatively, you could walk-in after 9PM as the place starts to die down (open til 11PM). Ordered the prime beef course meal since it was my very first time. I wanted to order the tripe and chives meat entree (for 2) as well, but they were out of stock. I also tried to order some grilled duck, but they got too busy and forgot the order *which in hindsight was fine since the course meal was very filling. The banchan come out first, which I had ample time to taste test since the meats took forever to come out!! Banchan here for the most part are varied and beautifully presented some of the dishes are definitely misses. I appreciated the sliced and seasoned king mushrooms and the napa cabbage kimchee - both very good. The shared salad is also very nice and refreshing. Meats when they did come out were portioned on the smaller side. We agreed that the wagyu sirloin wasn't as delicious as the prime outskirt or cube steak. The brisket was okay. Kimchee pancake and steamed egg dishes were forgettable, as was the spicy bibim naengmyun (spicy cold arrowroot noodles). The soft tofu stew had ample tofu and seafood bits which was tasted amazing, albeit salty from some msg. Rice is regular white rice. I'll probably come back to purely try the meat menu, no combinations or pre fixe courses. Will try more Japanese wagyu dishes, gopchang, and duck. Then I'll pass final judgment. So 4 stars for now just because it was a nice experience and we were pleasantly full. Service was on the better end of the scale (they have a call button - but don't abuse it!) however wait staff do not cook the expensive meats for you (definitely do not have the time! Which is fine). I don't think the other Korean dishes on their menu (stews and other entrees) are worth the price points. read more

Hangang or Han River is the 4th longest river in South Korea But for today, we'll settle for Hangang in Honolulu In Korean dining, your meal will begin with some or lots of banchan. So what is banchan? It's a Korean side dishes that were either pickled, blanched, steamed, stir fried or braised with seasonings such as chili peppers , sesame seeds, onions, honey, soy sauce and other secret ingredients As soon as we walked in to Hangang, we were greeted with a smile and quickly taken to our table. The place is filled with lots of customers chatting away with a smile. So either they're already happy coming in or Hangang provided a delightful atmosphere. After we sat down to our table, I asked to use their restroom. It's not perfect but it was pretty clean. If you're reading this far, then you should start planning a day to check them out. My friend and I ordered the Hangang yang nyum galbi, or kalbi, shrimp fried rice, soon doobu chigae or soft tofu soup with pork and seasoned green onions salad. Everything was seasoned well from the galbi/kalbi to the seasoned green onions to the shrimp fried rice. The spice level was perfect [at least for me since I love spicy food]. We ordered those 4 items and so you're probably wondering why there's so much food on the table. Our server, Seo, served us with 9 different banchans for our starters from kim chee, pickled radish, honey potatoes, choy sum, seaweed with onions, stir fried fish cake, bean sprouts, red radish, and tteokbokki or rice cake. The banchan alone will have your tummy filled with delicious sides dishes! Our server, Seo, was quick and friendly. He even served us with fresh pineapples . Went here on a Saturday and walked-in with no reservations. Had to wait about 30 min for a table, which was not a problem for us, as we grabbed a few things from the mall while waiting. The manager of the store called us and let us know that our table was ready and we headed back. When we got there, we were seated on a 4-top in the middle of the room. We placed our order and took advantage of the Prime Beef coursed meal that came with 10 dishes starting at $70 per person. That was totally worth it for us. Started off with the veggies and banchan. Items like the Cheese Steamed Egg and Kimchi Pancake then started to come out, followed by the meats. My only wish is that the meats were seasoned before cooking. At that point in time, we were then asked to move to a different table (booth) along the side of the wall, near the kitchen area. They apparently had a huge party coming in that needed our table. So we got up, grabbed our waters and moved to that booth. The servers grabbed all our banchan, veggies and meats, put it on a cart and wheeled it over. By the time we moved to our next table, we were already starting to fill up. So we asked the servers to box up the Cold Noodle and Kimchi Stew. They seemed confused at first, but then realized that we didn't get those items just yet and in about 10 min it was boxed up and ready to go. I'm the end, we were served pineapple skewers for dessert which I thought was interesting, yet refreshing. Ample street parking located right up front and also a gravel lot out back. Servers were ok. 1 was on his phone behind the counter throughout the whole time I was there eating and the other waiter maybe did not want to be there, he did not smile once. Ordered kalbi and ahn chang. Kalbi was tough. Ive had way better quality than that. Ahn chang was excellent. But their quantity was small. Side dishes were decent. Taste was good. We are addicted to Hangang! Between the quality of service and the delicious food, we can't help but return almost every week. Hangang has always popped up as a restaurant recommendation on Yelp, but I was hesitant to eat here because I thought the food was expensive. However, when I really think about it, the prices aren't bad compared to other Korean restaurants on Oahu. Unlike a lot of other restaurants here, Hangang gives you a plethora of banchan, which are all delicious, and they even offer you either hot or cold barley tea. For those who may not like barley tea, they do have water. My family and I usually end up ordering the same food--bibim naengmyeon, mul naengmyeon with bulgogi or spicy pork combo, and mul naengmyeon entree. We're trying to explore more of the menu, but as you can tell, we're addicted to naengmyeon--not all Korean restaurants serve naengmyeon the way we like it, so we get our fix as often as possible. Another thing I love about this restaurant is the ambiance. I used to think that Choi's Garden had a good atmosphere, but Hangang has surpassed them in that department--it's got an upscale, yet casual vibe. This restaurant also has booth seating options, which is my favorite, since you get a little bit of privacy during your dining experience. But regardless of where you sit, the service here is always impeccable. No matter how busy they may be, you will receive top-notch service from the time you walk into the restaurant until the moment you leave. Not to mention, the employees are always working hard. I honestly feel like I'm dining in Korea. Just a tip to anyone new, parking isn't easy, so if you can, come during off-peak hours. But definitely try this place even if it's during the busy hours, you won't regret it--there's street parking in addition to the parking lot. All in all, if you're looking for an authentic Korean meal, this is the place for you! I will keep coming here for as long as I live on Oahu. :D read more

Tried this place out because my mom wanted to after doing an errand. The parking lot was going through some construction. Inside the restaurant gave a modern vibe, waiter/waitresses were nice. Banchan was fresh and good variety. I think what you get for the lunch set is good for the price.($23.95+tax) Getting hot pot rice, choice of soup(miso, Kim chee or tofu soup) and meat(kalbi, fish, bbq chicken or beef bulgogi) is filling for 1 person. Had lunch over there last week. They have a special lunch menu that includes purple stone rice, choice of meat and tofu stew soup. They are quite filling and tasty. My friend did the ordering. Loved that the place wasn't Smokey. Not sure how theirs was different because I'm used to seeing tons of smoke when cooking. The place isn't very big and neither are the tables. So they have to add small tables on either side to place the raw meat we were going to cook. The food was delicious .i would come back. We received good service from the team (love it when the servers work together). The stone pot rice was garnished with chunks of kabocha. Super delicious. We both ordered the short ribs. They were thick & flavorful. My kim chi stew was perfectly seasoned and boiling hot. The tofu stew, also molten-lava hot, came with an egg. We also ordered a seafood pancake that was excellent! And an order of steamed mandoo, which were super plump and meaty and delicious! But let me tell you about the banchan!!! Each little dish was plated with care and attention. Every one of these little dishes was filled with something amazing. There was a chilled beef banchan that we never had before and it was tasty. These dishes were clean, fresh and beautiful. After having a great girls day with my OG bestie we hungry!! Hangang has been popping up in my feed and just thought this would be the perfect place for us to wind down our day with this late lunch. Lunch specials here do run from 11am-2pm stated on the menu though we were here at 3ish they said that they will still offer it to us which was amazing and already made us fall in love with this place. Seriously not expecting that anyways it was a nice option for us to have and we certainly embraced it...you start with a choice of "Hot Pot Rice" with your choice of meat and soup OR "Cold noodles" and are make that into a combo as well by adding your choice of meat. Once we ordered the feast began! A staff came out with a cart and parked right beside us and just piled on the load of barchan!...nine to be exact and wow we just didn't expect that as we started at each other and smiled ;-) My bestie went with her Hot Pot Rice with Short Rib and Soft Tofu Soup and wow what a presentation that was, the rice was a beautiful redish/purple with beans and pumpkin cooked in it's own pot we were also given a carafe of tea we didn't know it was to add to the "koge" or what we call the yummy end parts of the pot of rice to soak in and enjoy at the end of your meal. No on had asked if we've been here before and the serve sounded annoyed that we had no clue what he was talking about and kept saying "that's why I give you the bowl..." DUDE not everyone will know so deal with it!! Her Tofu soup was red but not spicy just a nice mellow flavor and had an egg in the middle, short ribs was done just perfect but in easy bite sized pieces and was just delicious!! The ambiance here is simple as majority of the seating are booth with a nice bigger table seating in the middle the kitchen or prep area is open and there seems to be a basin to wash your hands I believe right beside the door which was our guess but we have no idea and didn't want to embarrass ourselves. Hangang is hands down our favorite Korean restaurant in Hawaii. I've been there multiple times, and every visit has been consistently excellent. I've brought friends visiting from the mainland, and they loved it too. My wife, who was born in Korea, really enjoys the food here--and even her mother, visiting from Korea, said it was delicious (which says a lot!). They make their own kimchi in-house, and it's outstanding--perfectly balanced and full of flavor. The assortment of banchan is impressive, with generous variety and freshness every time. The menu has a great selection of classic Korean dishes along with Korean barbecue, and the quality always matches (or exceeds) expectations. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portions you get. Between the authentic flavors, warm atmosphere, and great service, Hangang has become our go-to spot for Korean food in Hawaii.
