I really enjoyed the set (especially the starter) and felt so wonderful knowing that everything is vegan. Thankful for my friends who were willing to come along and try!

Cool vegetarian korean concept in ktown! portions rlly good for the price and the vibes were super cool (shoes off, wooden bench/tables, teapot displays, etc.). flavor was fine but not the most complex/mindblowing. i rlly liked the grilled tofu since it was crispy chewy outside / soft inside. the rice cakes were a tad sweet for my taste but came with mushrooms and vegan fish tofu. Left decently full for $30pp.

the best seating style -- sunken in, semi-private booths, shoes-off. Feels very relaxing, casual. Service was precise and no one missed a beat. Alllll of our dishes were delicious, and the stone rice bowl was finished table-side which was a fun surprise. Ordered: *SPICY KOREAN CAULIFLOWER BITES 10/10 *STUFFED SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS 6/10 *KOREAN PANCAKES PLATTER 10/10 *TODOK SALAD 8/10 *SPICY KIMCHI STONE BOWL RICE 10/10 *SPICY TOFU KIMCHI HOT POT 9/10 *MUSHROOM SIZZLER IN A HOT PLATE 10/10 *WHITE RICE side -- perfectly cooked *Desserts: TIRAMISU, FRASIER STRAWBERRY CAKE, RED BEANS AND ICE CREAM RHAPSODY 10/10 all *Drinks: MEDITATION (fresh mango juice, a hint of lime and soju) 6/10 + SEOUL SOUL ALE 8/10 everything was shared family style for a bday dinner and the consensus was "this place is awesome, so happy we found it" only complaints: cabbage and radish kimchi weren't very strong, texture of stuffed mushrooms was too grainy, cocktail needed a lil sumn sumn but the mango was refreshing. MOST IMPORTANTLY: we TOTALLY forgot it was vegan. I mean.. HOW. incredible work, any meat eater would love it here

Visited them during NYC Restaurant Week 2026. The acorn noodle salad was insanely good--if you chew for about 10 times or more, you can taste the acorn flavor. I just wish they could make the dressing lighter so that the acorn flavor could stand out a bit more. The cauliflower was okay but quite mediocre. The summer ssambap was good; I loved the sauce. They could do better if the ingredients were listed under the dish name. Since I'm not a fan of mango, I had to separate them from the toppings. This restaurant has a lot of potential as the one and only Korean vegan restaurant.

Hangawi offers one of the most unique dining experiences in New York, serving traditional Korean cuisine made entirely with plant-based ingredients. We walked into a space that felt calm and intentional from the moment we arrived, with guests removing their shoes before entering the dining room. The traditional floor seating, soft lighting, and peaceful setting made it feel like a welcome escape from the busy streets outside, creating an experience that was just as memorable as the food itself. The menu proves that Korean cuisine can be incredibly flavorful without relying on meat. We ordered a few dishes and found the stone bowl bibimbap standing out, arriving sizzling with crispy rice at the bottom and a generous mix of vegetables. Other favorites included the spicy baby dumplings, stuffed eggplant, tofu stews, and mushroom-based dishes, all of which were well seasoned and satisfying. Even without being vegan or vegetarian, the flavors were rich enough that the meal never felt like it was missing anything. For a more complete experience, the prix fixe menus were a great option because they let us sample several dishes in one meal. The seasonal courses added variety throughout the year, and the desserts provided a lighter finish after the savory dishes. The menu had enough variety that it was easy to share several plates and experience different flavors throughout the meal. Service was attentive and welcoming throughout our visit. The staff were happy to explain the menu and guide us through the dining experience. Since the restaurant is popular, reservations are a good idea, especially during dinner service or weekends. The team moved through the room with a quiet efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the experience smooth and unhurried. Overall, Hangawi is much more than just a vegan Korean restaurant. The combination of traditional ambiance, thoughtful presentation, and flavorful plant-based cooking creates one of the most distinctive dining experiences in the city. Whether we follow a plant-based diet or simply want to try something different, it is a restaurant that is well worth visiting.

Went for restaurant week and opted for the floor seating, which was super fun. Got to try the kimchi soup and acorn noodle salad apps, korean gnocchi rice cakes in creamy seaweed sauce and crispy tofu with scallions and onions in korean chili sauce entrees, and blueberry cheesecake and black sweet rice pudding. My favorites were the kimchi soup and the crispy tofu, the rice cakes were also delicious. So many great flavor packed items and they were accommodating for nut allergies as well! I would pass on the black sweet rice pudding, but I might just not have acquired taste for it

    I've had better.

For a vegan Korean fine dining??? A little overhyped AND overpriced. So for starters, Korean food has always included veggies in their cuisine so this feels like exoticizing Korean food, and I think people are just being too dramatic when they have kikimbap but in mushroom style. Like??? Ok? The setting is very much a sensory grabber. You take your shoes like just entering an Asian home. Cozy, almost theatrical ambiance. For the food, the kimchi jigae is so expensive but the taste factor ain't there! It's small, and overpriced for just bland tofu kimchi stew. The scallion pancakes are also meh, overpriced because the put in on a stone! Lmao. I think for me it's the mushroom kikimbap that saved it from being a disaster. Love the burnt bottom rice as always. Great taste and flavors. The cocktail is just too small for that price, like ridiculous. We also had a tofu truffle dumpling which is interestingly made but lacking in texture and flavors. Will I come back? I don't think so. But A FOR the effort and ambiance gimmick. But for the love of god, don't exoticise Korean food!

I went to Hangawi with a couple family members and we had a lovely time. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely and peaceful (you take off your shoes at the front and sit at low tables - the tables still have an open space underneath, so if you are not particularly good at sitting cross-legged on the floor like me, you can still sit as if it is a bench seat). Our server was quiet and attentive. We tried: - todok salad: fresh and fried todok (Korean root vegetable) with watercress, cabbage and carrots in bean paste lemon dressing - Korean pancakes platter: leek, kimchi mushroom & mung bean pancakes with bean sprouts and kabocha pumpkin - kale dumplings in tofu skin wrap: kale, tofu, edamame beans and vegetables wrapped in tofu skin - plant based bulgogi stone bowl rice: plant based 'bulgogi' with vegetables and mushrooms with rice sizzling in a hot stone bowl - ssam bap: build your own lettuce and perilla leaf wraps with a variety of vegetables, tofu, sautéed mushrooms and bean paste sauce, served with 3 kinds of rice What a wonderful meal! The standout for us were the dumplings with a delicious bright green edamame sauce. And also the crispy rice at the bottom of the stone bowl, of course! While I do wish some of the flavors were punchier, we ordered the non spicy items to cater to my cousin so I can't comment on how the spicier foods might taste. I understand this facet of Korean cuisine is focused more on the nourishing properties of the foods. I am so happy I finally got to try this restaurant and highly recommend the experience to anyone!

Terrific food; 10/10 for the innovation, but the service left a lot to be desired! Let's start with the positives-- the food. We ordered the Kale dumplings in tofu skin wrap. It was delicate and paired really well with the spinach sauce. For the main course, we ordered the Avocado Rice bowl bibimbap and Spicy Kimchi tofu soup. Loved both! It was very filling. The avocado rice bowl came with a wonderful miso soup! Loved the concept-- sitting on the floor. The floor cushions were comfortable and there was an enclosure below the table to put your legs. The restaurant has mood lighting, and was full for a weeknight. Impressed!!! Service was practically non-existent. I think it was just the person who waited on us. He took our order and didn't bother to check in if we wanted anything more! I wanted to order a drink mid-meal and after 15 minutes of waiting and trying to get his attention while he was walking back and forth (which was unsuccessful; he didn't pay attention at all), I gave up. I could tell other staff were not like that. I have to deduct a star for that.

Delicious vegetarian food. Move traditional environment, friendly and helpful staff. I met a friend for dinner to catch up and it was a great environment for both the unique dining experience and the catching up part. We shared everything - a veggie bulgogi dolsot bibimbap, Korean pancake, ginger tofu soup, and spicy veggie dumplings. I highly recommend a dolsot (Clay pot rice bowl) dish if you do a la carte dining. The Korean pancakes were fun flavors though a bit salty. The dumplings were good, although the "spicy" was just a little kick. Our waitress was excellent, helping us when we need it and disappearing so we could catch up over conversation.

I've been here a few times for dinner and just realized I've never written a review! I really love bringing people here since the dining experience is so unique. I prefer to sit at the low tables, and you'll have to take off your shoes when you arrive (they store them for you and have them out and waiting for you when you finish). It can be a little bit tricky to sit down and get up since there's not a ton of space, so just be mindful of that. I also appreciate that they will give you slippers when you use the restroom, but they are communal slippers so I would wear socks! We ordered off the a la carte menu and got: - Vermicelli Delight (5/5) Wish this came with more noodles though!!! - Korean Pancakes Platter (5/5) Comes with three sauces and three types of pancakes (leek, kimchi mushroom, and mung bean with pumpkin). All tasted great! - Mushroom Stone Bowl Rice with Black Truffle Paste (3/5) This was fine but I didn't taste the truffle at all. - Spicy Mongolian Hot Pot (5/5) I loved this dish! So good. - Spicy Rice Cakes (5/5) Wish this came with more rice cakes! The service was nice although they never refilled my cup of hot water. Props to them for serving us and navigating the low tables!

Such a beautiful space that is rare to see the likes of in the US! I loved sitting on the floor and having a space for my feet. The food was all fantastic, i especially liked the twigim and the perilla leaf tofu appetizer. Melisa and i were catching up w someone from high school and we closed the place out on a sunday night it was awesome. Also look at that freaky Alien (1979) egg vessel the twigim (fritters galore??) came in lol. Idk if the nonvegans liked the food as much as me i was coming off vegebruary but i was LOVING it

One of the more unique Korean Restaurants I've ever seen. Most likely because it's a vegetarian Korean restaurant. But also, how often is it where you take your shoes off at a restaurant? So yeah, we were here for restaurant week. As part of restaurant week, we had the 3 course menu. For the appetizers, we split the beet & avocado tartare, mushroom skewers, korean herb noodles salad, & the emperor rolls. For the main menu, we ordered the perilla leaf bibimbap w/ tofu crumbles & the crispy rice cakes in spicy sauce. For the dessert, we split the red bean and ice cream rhapsody & the chocolate mocha cake. Of the appetizers, the beet & avocado tartare was one of my favorites. The skewers were good, but maybe not the most authentic skewers you can find The salad was also pretty decent too. The appetizers were all very light. Very easy to digest. For the main meal, the crispy rice cakes stole the show. It had a great amount of kick. I loved every bite. The bibimbap was good, but the rice cakes were so much better. I personally loved the mocha cake, but my girl loved the ice cream rhapsody. Win-win in any case. This was perhaps our favorite restaurant week dining experience of the summer of 2025.

A Hidden Gem That Completely Changed My Perspective on Vegan Food…read more Yesterday was my first visit to Le Botaniste, and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. The storefront and fresh drinks first caught my attention, so I thought it was mostly a juice or beverage spot. The moment I walked inside, I realized it was so much more. The restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere, and everything looked incredibly fresh. You can immediately tell they take pride in the quality of their food. The highlight of our visit was the exceptional customer service from Alan. He welcomed us with a smile, took the time to explain the menu, answered all of our questions, and gave us recommendations based on what we were looking for. His knowledge and enthusiasm made choosing our meals easy. Alan recommended their most popular bowl, the Pasta Bolognese, and mentioned it was also his personal favorite. After just one bite, I understood why. It was rich, hearty, full of flavor, and if no one had told me it was vegan, I never would have guessed. It has officially become one of my favorite plant-based meals. For my mother, Alan recommended the seasonal Mediterranean Bowl, and it was another excellent choice. I asked her if she enjoyed it, and her response was simple: "Yes... and I want more." That pretty much says it all. The drinks were also fresh, refreshing, and paired perfectly with our meals. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their drink menu. Even if you're not vegan, don't let that stop you from trying this place. Le Botaniste proves that plant-based food can be comforting, satisfying, and packed with incredible flavor. A huge thank you to Alan for making our first visit such a memorable one. Great food is important, but great hospitality makes people want to come back. Needless to say, I'll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

I came on a weeknight with a reservation, was seated right away, and sat at the bar before a Broadway show. The bartender/server was very nice, attentive, and helpful when I asked for recommendations. I ordered the carrot bisque, scallop paella, and a lavender martini. The food was flavorful, and it was my first time trying hearts of palm. I'm not vegan and eat seafood, so I wasn't expecting the "scallops" to taste like actual seafood. They were made to look like scallops, which was a fun touch, but the texture was different. Overall, the paella was enjoyable and made for a unique dining experience. The lavender martini was interesting, but not for me. It had a floral, citrusy flavor that reminded me a little of perfume or floral soap. It wasn't unbearable. It was just not my personal preference. Service was efficient. Burger ($20) with a gluten-free bun ($2). For the breakfast, the portobello mushrooms were the highlight of the dish. They were very juicy and had strong umami flavor! I love spinach even plain, but I think it could have used a touch more seasoning. The tofu scramble was seasoned, but it could either use more seasoning or more moisture. The corn muffins were dry and crumbly, definitely the worst part of the dish. My friend said that the sauce brought the burger together and hid the fact that it's a Beyond burger. She also mentioned that she didn't feel heavy after eating the burger, which was nice. Despite us telling the restaurant that we had to go to a musical, service was on the slower side. My friend also had to try several times to get to the bathroom, since someone was always inside. However, the staff was friendly and made us feel welcome. I would only recommend P.S. It was flaky, umami and perfectly tender -- such an incredible vegan fish substitute. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the Alfredo sauce creamy without any off aftertaste that's sometimes comes with vegan cheese/dairy. I wish the portion was a bit larger for the price; I finished every last bit of it. The kbbq wings had a really flavorful sauce and dip, but I wish the seitan had more of a crunch to it. Also would have preferred a bit more of a stickier wing with a bit more of the bbq glaze. Service was great and food came out within 10-15 minutes during lunch. Just a note if doing takeaway, prices if you order online are higher than in-person; so call in your order instead.

We got the Philadelphia maki roll, spicy mang, and the chicken yakitori skewers (my favorite). The skewers have a tangy sauce that make it so good. The drinks were also unique and beautifully served!

Beyond Sushi was in Midtown near where I was staying, so I ended up coming here---on Valentine's Day, which happened to be a mistake! Since I didn't have a reservation, the lady who checked me in told me I had to find a seat at the bar. Her attitude was not the best, as when I looked over the menu and made a decision on what I wanted to get, she dismissed me when I waved her over, saying she is not the person taking orders. Um, okay? Then who is? One guy at the bar was nicer, and was able to take my order. I started off with a hot tea since NYC was cold in February, and then decided to have as much as I could of two dishes---the "chicken" yakitori skewers and the Korean BBQ skillet. The skewers came in a set of two, with a white mayo-like sauce drizzle and pickled cucumber on the side. Super delectable, though very filling because of the protein! The skillet was made with classic Chunk Foods protein, the go-to plant-based option for all the meat dishes at City Roots restaurants as far as I know. This was incredibly filling, but the sauce and the texture were all around delicious as well. I could NOT bother to finish the brussels sprouts the skillet came with---way too much to stomach, and I was going to focus on the "meats" since I can always have brussels any other time! The bill by the end of it was PRICEY. That's why I only go to one of these restaurants as a special treat when I visit NYC. Watch out if you order hot tea...$13!! I guess that's the NYC way, but still!
