We had the wedge salad and the shrimp and grits for appetizers and both were extremely enjoyable! The candied bacon was the star of the wedge and there are no words to describe how delicious the shrimp and grits were! The grit cubes were crunchy on the outside and so creamy on the inside! "Where is my food?" Do you ever ask that question when you dine out? Have you ever asked that question three times at the same restaurant? Do you ever ask yourself why you keep going back to that same restaurant? Let me try to explain these important questions of life by describing Hannah's. I'm torn, so torn with a two star review since I will be in the minority camp but the truth will set you free. Denton, Texas is slowly growing in their scene of good quality food (non chain) restaurants and Hannah's is considered one of them. Some of Hannah's menu highlights are the ahi tuna and the steak for the entrees. So the entree prices are on the higher side these are decent choices. The scallops were too salty and the lamb with their odd pairings wasn't my favorite. For sides or appetizers, order the french fries and the wild mushrooms. For dessert, the flour less chocolate cake and carrot cake stand out but in the span of six months they have reduced the portion size of their desserts unless during this visit the staff was running low and gave us a smaller portion. So yes there are some decent food options at Hannah's. Where the restaurant lacks and is the cause of the two stars is there service. I have visited Hannah's three times and each time my table's entrees took 45 minutes to over an 1 hour to arrive. Perhaps the restaurant has a small kitchen but the having your food arrive consistently late is disappointing. Additionally, simple items like complimentary bread and butter that other guests receive promptly upon arrival are not offered or provided unless asked. I can and will normally look past service if the food is amazing but there aren't too many entrees that will WOW you. For the higher price point for many of Hannah's dishes I am seeking more flavorful food options and much better service. Life is too short to ever ask a server "where is my food?" read more

Went to Hannah's for the first time and had brunch with hubby. We sat outside and was served by Andrew. Who was spectacular in serving us, I must say. Also gave us great recommendations on drinks and food. I had salmon crepes something I would have not ordered if not recommended by Andrew. It was something totally new and very tasty it had a nice smoky taste to it and hubby had Florentine flatiron steak and eggs. His take on it is that the steak was seasoned and cooked very well. I actually had a taste of the steak. So good! Also the side of potatoes w/spinach was incredibly amazing! I felt bad for hubby I kept eating his food too. He also liked my food and he doesn't like salmon and now says he might get into it more after tasting my plate. We also splurged on dessert and tried chocolate orange gnocchi it was so full of texture and taste we never had a dessert like these before so it grew on us and we decided we actually enjoyed it. I had a martini creme brûlée a bit strong but I like it like that so it was a plus. Not sweet as I thought so it worked well for the finish touch to call it a day. We enjoyed the time we had at Hanna's and the service was great that we will be coming back this evening to have dinner. Come out to Hanna's you won't be disappointed brunch was delightful. Also great service! Our waiter Andrew is 2 weeks new and we seriously never would have guessed that! He was greatly experienced with the menu and drinks and was on point with everything that we thought he had worked there for years. Now that's how you know they hired a great waiter. Well yet another great brunch at Hanna's!! Trout and eggs were so fresh I was looking for the stream they were caught it in!! Everything but the kitchen sink migas leaves you wanting nothing, but maybe a little more! That perfect avacado never hurts! Sweet cream crepes, and this is coming from my 13 year old foodie daughter, were delicious! The bacon on top was a great texture and flavor addition. "Could have been played nicer"... I told ya she's a foodie! Mulberry breakfast showed up with perfectly cooked eggs, fried green tomatoes could have used a lil salt. We came on a Monday evening. Made reservation ahead of time but wasn't necessary. Plenty of open seats. The server was in training but still did a fantastic job. This is a nice little gem we would have never found without Yelp! Food was spectacular and service to match. Everything we had was top notch and would get again. We Had the: Tomato Basil Soup - 9/10 just missing a couple of croutons! Lamb feta Meatballs (special) - 9/10 could use a little more Parmesan. Blue Crab appetizer- 10/10 presentation, flavor all perfect! Chicken Saltimbucco - 10/10 perfect tenderness to the chicken and excellent flavor in the sauce. The rigatoni was cooked to perfection. Chili dusted Georgia quail - 10/10 according to my husband *seasonal* he loved the 'Mexican style street corn'. He opted for regular mashed and not the chipotle style. Potato crusted pan seared halibut - 9/10 topped with blue crab scampi butter. The butter just needed some zing salt or citrus. It was flat. Other than that the fish was excellent. Rosemary smoked duck breast - 10/10 served with wild rice and harvest vegetables pancakes that are out of this world savory. I didn't try the duck but my son said it was excellent! We came on a Saturday evening and they were not real busy yet, our hostess seemed like she didn't want to be there. After we sat down it took forever for our waiter to come over. When he did get there he took our cocktail and appetizer order. He never told us about the specials but we overheard him telling the table next to us they had a Lobster Bisque which I definitely would have ordered had I known. The appetizers we had, Stuffed Meatball and Shrimp & Grits were both kind of bland and the grits were too thick. The Rosemary Smoked Duck and the Au Poivre Tenderloin Were both really good as were the cocktails. Our biggest gripe was the attitude of the hostess and inattentiveness of our waiter. Ok so we have had a lot of high priced food over the years. So the service was good. Tried to call and push my reservations by an hour but couldn't get through apparently the phones where having issues. Ordered Cedar plank salmon. Presentation was a 4.5. Flavor Though was a 2. It was honey sweet and had no cedar flavor what so ever. Seems the fish may not have been cooked on a soaked in water cedar plank therefore no cedar flavor was imbued into the fish. My husband had the ravioli with beef cheeks. Found the flavor was more like yesterday's Osso booku than beef cheeks. Now the atmosphere was pleasant and nice though. Our fourth trip in a little over a month was for Sat. brunch. My flatiron steak was grilled to perfection, complimented with spinach potatoes gratin, two over med. eggs, some fresh cherry tomatoes and green chili dip. My wife's tomato basil bisque was ridiculously creamy and delicious -- we added some rosemary focaccia crostini. The taverna beet salad has become a staple for her, as well as the quiche, which has the texture of a custard. Lindsey is a wonderful server and Jan, the manager, is super committed to a great experience. The combination of locally-sourced excellently-prepared food, elegantly-quiet atmosphere, fab drama-free experience is a rare find ... and we flat love it! read more

We give Hannah's 5 stars again! The new scallop dish is amazing, they are changing the menu and the chef is a genius. She has created a mouthful of flavors that ride the wave of delicious. The combinations are unique and perfectly balanced. The quail entree creates a perfect union of richness with the fowl and all enhanced by the fruityness of the garnish. The service is top notch we experienced nothing but prompt courtsey and even when two big parties that almost filled the restaurant, we we're still catered to and served as if we were the only people in the restaurant. We were raved so much about our food and sent our appreciation to the chef she made an appearance and we were thrilled to meet the food genius! This place is tucked back from the square and un-presumptuous from the exterior; yet it's gorgeous once you step inside. We made reservations and were quickly led to our table and warmly greeted by our server. She offered us our menus and told us to take our time. I had the lemon sorbet gin cocktail (can't remember the name) and it was fun to taste the difference while the sorbet melted. We started with the Salt Block Steak Tartar and it was INCREDIBLE! The flavor combination was dreamy. My husband had their soup special of Lobster Bisque and he said that it was incredible. Very creamy. For entrees, I had the Tenderloin and it lived up to it's name. The mashed potatoes actually impressed me (I'm generally not a fan), Brussel sprouts were good, and the green peppercorn sauce was one of my favorite sauces I've ever had. My husband had the Chicken Saltimbocca, per our waitress' advice, and was floored. He assumed he wouldn't want to try chicken at a nice restaurant but he was wrong. To finish we had the Flourless Chocolate Cake and it is now one of my favorite desserts that I've ever tried. I had a decaf coffee and my husband had one of their fancy Baileys coffee drinks.. both were really good as well. Overall I would recommend dining here. It has a really romantic atmosphere where nothing feels rushed. I come to Hannah's at least once a month with my friends for Sunday brunch. They, hands down, have the best charcuterie board in Denton. The cocktails are always fresh and handmade with care. I've tried one or two of the other dishes but I generally can't, in good conscience, come to Hannah's and not indulge in a selection of fine meats and cheese. Today was no exception. It was my first bad experience unfortunately. We started with a couple bloody Mary's. I ordered the Choose 3 board with the Guinness Cheddar, Goat Cheese, and paid an extra $2 for the Chimney Rock. I asked to substitute the garlic crisps with the pretzel roll for an additional $1, then I added the apples and grapes for $4 and the Soppressata salami for $6. When I received my board, they served me summer sausage instead of salami, which I brought to the attention of the waiter considering it was a $6 mistake. Then, when I started eating, I realized they gave me the pretzel roll and garlic crisps, when I asked for the pretzel roll and French baguette. THEN, I noticed that the apple they served me was spoiled. My friend got the quiche of the day and looked at her fruit and apparently she got the other half of my spoiled apple. $60 later, i had the staff box it up for me and when I got home, they had left out the mustard that was included. Not to mention that the waiter really didn't check up on us as much as we needed him to. Honestly, I spent way too much money for what I got today. So disappointed. Especially considering the repeated patronage I have shown this institution. If this had been my first time, I would not return. Needless to say, it'll be some time before I present Hannah's with the opportunity to make it up to me. Considering the standard, today was inexcusable. For that reason, I demoted a star. read more

I went here for a birthday lunch at the office. I have only been here once a long time ago. I did remember the experience back then was ok. This time, the lunch experience was good. The lunch menu pricing looks pretty fair. The portions was good. A lot of healthy items on the menu to offer for lunch. I ordered the wedge salad with salmon along with a vingertte dressing. The salmon was grilled and a good portion size. It was a enjoyable wedge salmon salad. My party with me also ordered wedge salad, the pick 2 and 3 options. The 2 and 3 options had a good portion size. Also, the fruit provided was plentiful compared to most places. This place is my favorite for wedge salad with salmon. Tried this place for lunch last week with a group. Lots of specials and choices. I went with chili chicken enchiladas. Had the Verde sauce on side since I'm not a spicy fan. We love the shrimp and grits appetizer. We've been there several times and never had a bad experience food-wise. Service is sort-of hit or miss. Occasionally great servers, occasionally really bad, usually just average. For the price of this place, the servers should really be better. When two people spend $150 for an anniversary dinner, and the service is on par with a Red Lobster experience... well, that's why 3 stars. If I'm going to tip someone 15-20% of an insanely expensive food/drink bill, the service needs to be top notch. I realize this is a college town. We started our dining experience off w/ the THAI CURRY MUSSELS (B), THICK CUT FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (B+), and the CALAMARI FRITTI (B). For lunch we tried many different entrees, but I only noticed a few. 3 people had the burger, we tried the tacos, the SHRIMP & CRAB STUFFED TROUT (B+), I had the CREOLE RAVIOLI (B), and I also got to try the ***CHICKEN SALTIMBOCA (A). (++) The bite of Chicken Saltimboca that I got to try was phenomenal. Traditionally, the dish is served w/ chicken scallopini, but this one came w/ a chicken quarter wrapped in prosciutto... too good. I almost lost all control. The Fried Green Tomatoes was served w/ some of Dallas's freshest mozzarella, and you could taste the difference. It was a take on a caprese salad w/ fried tomatoes. One of the best things about this place... the menu. Anyone who likes FOOD can find something great. The brunch menu looked ridiculous. (+) The Stuffed Trout and my Creole Ravioli were really good. I was brought here on an interview. Nice wine selection, and classy service in the bar area. Appetizers were tasty and very nice presentation. My entree was excellent. I happened to be there the night the chef had a vegan special option, and it was delicious. My dinner partners were happy about their entrees as well. I would have given five stars except for the fact that when I returned a couple months later, I asked whether I could get a vegan option prepared for the next evening, as there was none. No dice. New Year's Day I called to ensure the restaurant was open, it was, after a 50 mile drive we arrive about 12:15 PM, the greeter inform us there were no tables available, they were all reserved, so I said we would sit in the bar area, where on two tables were occupied, now those are reserved also. My favorite restaurant in the DFW metroplex. This place rocks. You can't beat their brunch, lunch or dinners. I love their risotto, salads, lunch plates, beef medallions, etc. When I lived in Dallas, my family in Denton knew they could tempt me to make the forty-five minute drive up if they mentioned a meal at Hannah's. Even with the extra you pay in gas, you save about $20/person by driving to Denton versus a comparable meal in Uptown or Highland Park. Make sure to save room for the carrot cake! read more

We went to Hannah's Off the Square for my girlfriends birthday (dinner). The staff: The hostess was unfriendly and ambivalent. Our waiter was very friendly and timely. We ordered an appetizer and one of the wait staff just dropped it on the table without saying a word or making eye contact. At this price level, I expect a more polished, professional staff. The food: Appetizer: We had Calamari Fritte. It has some breaded fried pepperoncini in it. It came with a very good tartar sauce and puttanesca. Excellent!! Entree: We both had Chicken Saltimbocca, prosciutto-wrapped Chicken Breast * Roasted Butternut Squash * Ricotta Manicotti * Brown Butter & Sage Cream. Very happy with this overall. We had calamari to start (mediocre), sea scallops (not bad) and the tenderloin (there's a reason they have to put sauce on it). Drinks: my wine was excellent. My husband's martinis... IF YOU WANT TO BE A LEGITIMATE BAR, DO NOT MEASURE EVERYTHING YOU SERVE. They use jiggers and counters for all drinks. Every time we visit, the martinis are short. Upscale restaurants (such as Kenny's, Pappa's, etc) do not do this. Service: not good. We had to ask multiple times for drink refills, both water and alcohol. And this was at the bar! Atmosphere: meh. Several off-duty and on- duty waiters sat around the bar complaining about how slow it was... Yet we had to continually request refills. The place was less than half full. read more

I've only been here once but now I see what the fuss is all about and can't wait to return. We went during happy hour (good deal for cocktails!) and I had the berry mojito which was great. I hadn't tried this place before because it's quite pricey so we opted for the tapas (bar menu) and appetizers to get a smattering of everything. We got the pomme frites because the truffle and parm combo sounded great and while I was hesitant to spend $10 on fries I understood the price when the huge heaping portion appeared. The tapas were also very large. We got bacon-wrapped dates (my favorite/usual) which was the best! And they were huge and plentiful. We also got hummus (a standard which can really show the quality of a place) and dumplings; both were very good but not as special as the other offerings. We were passing though Denton after a funeral and the girlfriend was wanting to stop for lunch. She had been talking about it for a few days and we had the time so we stopped. She nailed this restaurant choice. Man of man is Hannah's great. Hannah's bills itself as a fresh ingredient restaurant where everything is Farm to Market. Chef Sheena does an impeccable job in coming up with the mouth watering dishes on her menu. We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes. These were probably some of the best I've had, still crunchy and not over cooked at all. The balsamic sauce with mozzarella topped of this appetizer. The girlfriend ordered the Ahi Burger and I got the Parmesan Rainbow Trout. the Ahi burger was absolutely amazing. Seared perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and paired perfectly with a jalapeno mayo and wasabi greens. Simply delicious. The trout was equally amazing. It had a lemon risotto that matched perfectly with the dish. The service was great and the atmosphere very cozy and enjoyable. AND apparently, their chef is not creative enough to come up with something that is not on the menu or to even alter something that is on the menu to accommodate special dietary needs- gluten free vegetarian. NOT that big of a deal. The waitress we had was rude and kept rolling her eyes and told us the chef said to "call ahead next time and she will make something special for me". No thank you. We left and took our business elsewhere. I recommend the Greenhouse on Locust. They ALWAYS accommodate special dietary needs (and even have a gluten free menu) and the drinks are MUCH better and the prices are great!!! read more

Ughhhh! Don't go here!!! The service is horrible and their waitstaff is slow and incompetent. You would think for the "nicest restaurant in Denton", they'd be able to get their shiz together -- but sadly, that is not the case. Went there for dinner on valentine's and we had made a reservation a week before, to ensure that we got in. They said that the only seating they had available was at the bar. We chalked it up to it being v-day and agreed to sit at the bar. We walk in a week later for our rez and the restaurant is pretty empty (rez was for 8:30 p.m., fyi) except for a really big party in what seemed like their special events room. We placed our order, crabcakes for moi, quail for the mom, and an order of truffle fries for an appetizer. All the other tables got bread/butter, but we waited 45 minutes and had to ask to get the bread. Our truffle fried were supposed to be fried in truffle oil or at least flavored with it, but all we tasted was the garlic. An hour and a half later, we still hadn't gotten our food. We finally flagged down our server, and when we asked why we hadn't received our food yet, she snootily answered that Hannah's makes all of their dishes from scratch, and therefore serving times were a little later than at other establishments -- yep, she said "establishments". After another 20 minutes (so altogether almost 2 hours of waiting), the server came out and said that our orders had gotten "mixed up" and it would be another 30 minutes before our food was ready. We were starving, pissed, and 20 minutes earlier been chastised by a stuck-up waitress, so we decided to just cancel our orders and leave. Management came by and said that they would comp our drinks for the inconvenience (one marg and a diet coke) and handed us a check for the truffle fries. Now, this really wasn't about the money -- I don't care about paying for the fries, but if a restaurant makes their customers wait 2 hours for food with sucky service, do you really need to have those same pissed off customers pay for the over-garlic'd fries? REALLY? Ughhh -- we're never going back and have been telling all of our friends to just head over to the nearest chili's for better service and food that's served in a timely manner. read more

Hannah's is a Denton Favorite of mine. The head chef really knows what she is doing! I can not tell you how many times I have eaten here in the past 6 years but it is surely over 30. The food is always wonderful and deliciously enticing. I almost never order off the menu because Shenna almost always has a vegetarian special that both entices the senses and tickles the pallet. The eclectic selections that they offer are truly unique, and delicious in their own rite. This most recent visit I sampled a relatively new menu item "Spiced Sweet Potato Enchiladas" was savory and sweet. The combination of flavors I would of never known went so well together but they harmoniously blended in a sinful gooey delight. They have wonderful staples such as the Hannah-Rita, their wonderful Pome-Friets, scrumptious carrot cake, and truly exquisite locally blended loose leaf teas. This place has got it down! First of all they are like the only fine dining restaurant in this small town and they are affiliated with groupon and restaurant week. The ambiance is pretty formal and upscale. Remember to dress up or you will feel out of place. Service was excellent. Food came out in a timely manner and water was constantly refilled. Now it's down to the food! I had the grilled quail with the poblano rice filling. grilled and poblano, those two words are keywords to a great meal. The quail was grilled to perfection and the poblano rice filling was rich and filled with deliciousness. The hubster had the rack of lamb with polenta. The lamb had a nice herb crust which added to it's flavor. The lamb, however was just good but not wow. The polenta didn't seem to pair well with the lamb. I would have preferred it with a bed of rice. But I guess that may have to do with my Asian heritage and zero Italian heritage. Overall, a great place. Little off the beaten path, we exited off the interstate to try it out. WOW!! The ambiance, the staff, very relaxing !! Now the meal....6-star if I could...had the Chipotle Bisque and the pork sandwich...kimchi mayo..I will definitely be back! Underpriced for the quality, for sure! read more
