Yummy roast duck and soy chicken vermicelli!!

Very authentic Cantonese cafe! "Chacanting" !! Recommend for the "Sumei" Hong Kong Style BBQ roast duck

Came by because I was craving for Hong Kong style cafe food. This is a hidden gem in the area. There is a small parking lot available. This is a small cafe, and it is very clean. Service was fast. We ordered half roast duck, beef chow fun, Hong Kong style "yin yeung," and iced orange tea. Food was amazing. The beef chow fun was a little bland, but it became flavorful after we added a bit of soy sauce. Price was reasonable. Will come by and try other dishes next time.

I travel about two hours to take my mother to city of Hope Hospital and I looked up Chinese restaurants to have lunch after her appointment. I just went with the restaurant that had the best reviews and let me tell you this was probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. Food was fresh and taste very authentic. I will be returning.

I was on Yelp searching the area to find a place to eat and stumbled upon Hao Cafe. This restaurant is a little hole in the wall that serves Hong Kong cafe foods. I grew up eating this type of food and this restaurant definitely hit the spot for me. Parking was a little difficult to find since it's a strip mall next to Target with other booming businesses next door. I ordered online and brought it back home for takeout. I went on Yelp and noticed that they have a website where you can order take-out. They direct you to a third-party website that doesn't charge any service fees which is nice. I ordered the Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli & Spam and Egg Fried Instant Noodle. The total was about $39! Food: Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli (9/10): This one does require an acquired taste for curry. It's a vermicelli and vegetable dish that is fried in curry. This reminded me so much of my childhood and had the perfect amount of saltiness and flavor. Spam and Egg Fried Instant Noodle (7/10): This dish is exactly as it's named. The instant noodle is fried down with some soy sauce. The spam had a nice char to it and the eggs were scrambled within the dish. I thought this one was just okay, I do wish there was a bit more flavor. Overall, I'm really happy I found this restaurant! I definitely will be coming back and trying more dishes!

Very small Cantonese restaurant with a large menu. There are approx 8 small tables so I would not recommend for large group. They have everything you would expect from pineapple buns, porridge, crispy chow mein, char sui, roasted duck and more. Everything tasted good and my only complaints were that the greens were overcooked and that rice does not come with any of the entrees for dinner service. Food came out fast and service was adequate. Accepts Amex, limited parking, but there are adjacent lots.

Recently moved to Duarte and Hao Cafe is truly heaven's sent. I grew up surrounded by HK cafes so the list of ones I've been to is probably too many pages long, so when I passed by Hao Cafe tucked away in a corner in a small plaza, I was hesitant to try. "Would the Lemon Iced Tea be good?", " Are they a fake HK cafe?"...so many doubts within me to ever want to try.... Until last night, I read all the positive reviews and took my chances - I am SO glad I did because Hao Cafe is definitely a 11/10! Everyone on the reviews raved about how delicious the Beef Chow Fun & the Roasted Duck is, so those I knew I had to try - both a 11/10 - both were AMAZING! Ordered their Curry Fish Ball (8/10) and Fried Chicken Wings (10/10) - balls were chewy and wings were crispy - I LOVED IT! Same goes for their Lemon Iced Tea. Service was great! They knew every customers who walked in. The restaurant was packed and their phone was ringing off the hook with pick up orders. I will definitely be coming back very soon! Highly recommend Hao Cafe!!!!!

Hao Cafe is the reason I love Duarte so much! My family and I have been going to Hao Cafe almost every week since it opened its doors. This restaurant has truly become a weekly ritual, and a great place to bring anyone. You can't beat the quality of food or the affordable prices here. I've enjoyed lots of meals dining in, or taking out to enjoy at home, and one thing is always true - I am always so full and happy after eating here. They are a family-run cafe, and there is no doubt that everyone is a big fan of them because it's always packed out the door. I've gotten to try a variety of dishes here and they offer just about anything here that can cater to anyone's taste. They have amazing roast duck and BBQ pork to fried rice, vermicelli, porridge, soup, curry, chicken wings, sandwiches, etc...and they are all delicious. I have yet to try every dish here because there is just so much variety. As a true HK cafe, they make top-notch HK Lemon Tea and HK Style Milk Tea and Coffee. I've also enjoyed their Crushed Ice w/ Red Bean, Lychee, Logan, Grass Jelly...I just can't go wrong ordering anything here. Every friend I have brought here always love their craft drinks, big portions, hot food, and quick service. A big kudos to the chefs and servers. Yes, the cafe is a little cozy, but who doesn't love that when their service is so friendly, and you can snuggle a little closer to your family or friends. There is parking in the front on Huntington, or you can go to the back or use street parking on Bradbury. Trust me, any wait time will the worth the wait and you'll leave feeling so full, cozy, and want to plan another visit here again soon. Thank you to the wonderful staff here for taking care of my group every time I visit. I'll see you very soon, and often!

We love down home Canto food and HC came thru big time! Not a big dining area, but friendly and attentive staff made the experience great. Good-sized portions and our dishes were seasoned just right.

    Lunch Special Curry Chicken...so good!

Hao Cafe is such a gem in the neighborhood of Duarte and I happen to be nearby in the area and was craving something delicious for lunch. Lo and behold, I arrived at this cafe and there was already a few groups waiting outside to get a table. The cafe is really small inside - looked like maybe about 7-10 smaller tables. But it's definitely a bustling cafe! I went to the register to place a to-go order and the lady with the glasses was very efficient and nice. I ordered their Curry Chicken Lunch Special, which came with the full-size entree and about a bowl-size of rice. Their Lunch Specials range from $12.95-$14.95 before tax. My Curry Chicken was $13.95 and with tax came to about $15 and some change. The tax rate in Duarte is one of the higher ones at about 10.5%, so add that to whatever you do plan to order here. But it was still worth it because I gotta tell ya...the Curry Chicken was just GOOD! Like REAL GOOD! Now let me say this: HK/Cantonese Curry uses a different kind of curry and is sweeter and lighter than other curries. It really has a distinct flavor that's a real home-style favorite for me. The chicken is also bite-sized, a common protein cut in Cantonese dishes. Will be returning here again when I am craving some delicious HK Style dishes!

We came around noon and they were packed inside a pretty small storefront. The wait time was about 15 minutes. Staff was quick in seating us, taking our order, and bringing the food out. They have a gender neutral bathroom in the back. We got the L51 Two Items with Flat Rice Noodle ($14.95), choosing their well known roasted duck and wontons. This was a good portion with lots of noodles. Duck was flavorful and tender, about 6 pieces. Then we got the L52 Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli ($14.95) which was a big portion for the price. It was savory with the curry with some shrimp and charsiu. Definitely will return for their lunch specials again! Very reasonable price for the portions.

I've been hearing about their roast duck and decided to give it a try. We came at around 3pm on a weekend and surprisingly it's super hard to find a parking. There are couple of other restaurants, and some parking are marked at 30min only. And this strip mall is very small with limited parking (plus basically no side street parking at all as you can't park on Huntington and they are in between sonic and McDonald) They were definitely not packed at this hour. We ordered the Singapore style fried rice noodle and the roast duck with rice (all from lunch menu). The rice noodle tasted authentic but very salty. Definitely the saltinest rice noodle that I ever ate in the HK style cafe. It will probably be great for people that like very strong taste. But I finish the whole cup of ice water because of this noodle. And the roast duck is alright but feel not salty enough. (Or our tastebud got mess up by the rice noodle). But definitely missing the sauce that usually pour generously on those roast duck rice. Just a side note, a LOT of servers, but none of them attentive at all. They will just talk to customer that they know. And basically give you a blank look if you are not one of those "known" one. Never asked if we need more water or refill. They simply walk by. Another thing to note, very LIMITED table. Total about 7 tables that seated 4 each. It will be tough for large group.

I went to Hao Cafe with my family because we were craving good Chinese food. The restaurant isn't very big, so coming with a big party might be a problem. Service was good since all of our food came out within 5-10 minutes. We ordered mapo tofu, green beans, orange chicken, stir fried broccoli, braised tofu, char siu pork, spam and egg stir fried noodles, and fish with black bean sauce. Everything was delicious, but my kids love their braised tofu best! Also, if you ever need party trays, they have it. A must order for parties are the chicken wings. It was a hit at the party. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. This is a hidden gem so don't forget to check it out.

Amazing. I can only imagine that dining in would've been even better. Very clean tasting, not too oily, flavors just right. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

The sweet and sour fish had huge pieces of fish filet that were lightly battered. I love that you can actually taste the fish since the batter isn't too heavy. The sweet and sour sauce was also really tasty. The seafood chow mein was delicious and they didn't skimp on the seafood. It had shrimp, fish and squid and the bok choy was fresh and crisp. The wonton noodle soup wasn't the best I've had, but it was still tasty. I thought it was a little overpriced at $14.99 since I'm used to paying around $12-$13 at other similar restaurants. The lemon iced tea was so refreshing and not overly sweet. Customer service was a little slow, but they were really busy. It's also pretty loud inside the restaurant, so it can be kind of hard to get the wait staff's attention when you need something. Overall, I would return for good Hong Kong-style cafe food.

One of the dishes I really like here is their Italian Style Grilled Pork Chop. You really don't see this dish at many other HK-style cafes, at least not around here. That's actually one of the reasons I like coming back for it. The pork chop is tender and flavorful, but the sauce is really what makes the dish for me. It has a nice sweet and sour taste, but it's very well balanced. Not too sweet, not too sour, and neither one takes over the whole dish. It goes really well with the pork chop and gives it that old-school HK cafe flavor. Definitely something a little different from the usual baked pork chop rice, curry, or black pepper dishes you see everywhere. Service here has always been good too. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they check on you without constantly coming over. Even when they're busy, service is still pretty solid. Parking is probably the only annoying part. They share the parking lot with another restaurant, so during weekend lunch time it can get pretty packed. You might have to circle around or wait for someone to leave. Hong Kong Cafe is located at Atlantic Times Square, a charming old-school cluster of shops and restaurants in Monterey Park. Free underground parking was especially appreciated on a roughly 97-degree September afternoon. Getting upstairs was slightly confusing because of construction and a closed escalator, but once we found the restaurant, things improved immediately. The facade is cool, but the interior is even better: spacious, clean, comfortable, with colorful illuminated Chinese and English signs. It has a wonderful classic Hong Kong café atmosphere that reminded me of the 1980s. The mellow Chinese music added greatly to the happy, relaxed vibe. I started with a lemon black tea--sweet, cold and exactly what I wanted on a brutally hot day. The XO sauce beef with udon noodles was excellent. The udon had a terrific pan-fried texture, and the beef had a slightly citrusy note that worked surprisingly well. Then came pure comfort food: the Hong Kong-style ham and egg pineapple bun. It's basically ham, lettuce, tomato, soft French-style scrambled egg and lightly lemony mayo inside a sweet pineapple bun. Nothing complicated, yet somehow the flavors worked beautifully together. It briefly transported me to a Hong Kong Island tea café near Sogo. I was already full. Naturally, I ordered dessert. The Ovaltine French toast was fantastic: thick, fluffy Chinese-style bread, golden outside, properly buttered, with Ovaltine and condensed milk inside. Cutting into it released the filling across the plate and into the cinnamon decoration. Rich, messy and memorable. I ate everything too quickly because it was that good. The large menu also offers plenty of Hong Kong comfort food, including chicken rice, Chinese-style egg and meat dishes, risotto-style dishes, several kinds of juk/congee and much more. Service was prompt, sincere and error-free. This could easily become my Monterey Park go-to for Hong Kong comfort food. Great food, great music, great atmosphere and well beyond my expectations. 5/5. Happily stuffed. 5/5。

Any of the sides that are included are good choices, you just may need to add a little flavor to the "chow mein" side dish. If you want a HK Western style plate, just know it's super simple food. I like to eat the toast with condensed milk. I would also stay away from the steak, as it tends to be too chewy and overcooked. Service is typical and fast. It can get busy on weekends during prime brunch time. Plenty of seating. Honestly brunch is so affordable. Those combos are good deals and the drinks are only a couple bucks additional. I recommend this place for simple Hong Kong brunch/breakfast.

We immediately got seated. Mind you, this isn't the type of place were you sit, enjoy your meal, and have a comfortable conversation. This restaurant is all about moving volume. Eat, be nice to the staff, and leave! Their take out business was off the charts during our stay. The staff was working their tails off to keep everything in order. Much respect there! Anyhow, I ordered from the "breakfast menu". They have an extensive pre-lunch - break menu at very affordable prices. I had the minced pork rice noodle in soup with a side of plain chowmein. And I ordered a ice (cold) milk tea (there's an up-charge for cold drinks +2 bucks). I think my total pre-tax and tip was like $16 bucks. Not bad. The chowmein was a bit "limp" in taste but I assume adding a bit of chili-oil would have fixed it for me. Again, this a good deal place. Enough said.

My fiancé and I surprised ourselves with this meal to be honest, and decided we have to come back to Mr. Champion more. We ordered 2 Lemon Iced Teas, because well, you just gotta when you are having Cantonese breakfast. This or a hot milk tea. To eat, their Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls (comes with 4 rolls) and a Pork & Preserved Egg Porridge. The Pork & Preserved Egg Porridge was just right - the right amount of rice and liquid, without the rice totally falling apart. It also had the perfect amount of pork and preserved egg that me and my fiancé weren't fighting over who gets more of what haha! Ok now, the only thing missing for me in the porridge was pickled veggies. Yes, I could've ordered pickled veggies, but I saw they were charging $2.30 for it for some reason. Is a side of pickled veggies really cost $2.30? Would this have made my porridge more enjoyable if I had it? Yes, because I am used to adding zha cai in my porridge so why not just add the pickled veggies to the price of the porridge and give the customer the option to add it or not on the side? *crying face* I understand I know just went on a tangent about pickled veggies, but I hope a reader can understand my dilemma haha! A great part of my day was to have enjoyed their Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls. They come with 4 per order, so if you are in a group of 2, it's perfect to share and enjoy 2 rolls per person. Their noodle rolls are probably the best I've had in the states. They are perfectly plump, tender, and slightly chewy. A little translucent, very delicate. They are what I imagine if I was having a dream of eating noodle rolls. So yes, if you visit here, definitely get their noodle rolls. They helped me with my dilemma about the pickled veggies with my porridge a lot haha! Their service was quick and efficient. We were seated in a minute and finished our meal in under 30 minutes. It's the perfect place for a quick breakfast that is affordable, delicious, and totally worth your wallet. I'll definitely see Mr. Champion soon!
